Plum Lockhart went out on a limb when she ditched her corporate job in New York City and moved to the Caribbean island of Paraiso. Now the head of her own villa broker agency, she spends her days chasing down clients and lounging on white-sand beaches.
But the sweet life turns sour when a publishing heiress is found dead at the mansion of eccentric tycoon Dieter Friedrich. Even worse, Plum's old colleague cashes in a favor and asks her to investigate. It looks like she'll need to fit a murder case into her already jam-packed schedule! Friedrich is known for his shady dealings, but he's not the only bad apple on the island - Plum will have to contend with a scheming millionaire, a sleazy rockstar, and devious B-list celebrities.
And joining Plum once again is Juan Kevin Munoz, the distractingly gorgeous Director of Security. Despite the sparks between them, they'll need to stay focused on the case - there's a murderer hot on their heels!
Something's Guava Give is the 2nd book in the Trouble in Paradise! mystery series written by Carrie Doyle. I've been reading books written by this author for a few years, beginning with her Hamptons Murder Mysteries series. When I caught up on all four of those books, I decided to jump next into this wonderful one... mostly because the author is a fantastic writer (not only does she deliver with amazing characters and plots, but she's a true writer's writer with the best phrasing and descriptions). I also love that the main character, Plum Lockhart, is originally from New York (where I live now) and the author's other series takes place on Long Island (where I grew up). Of course I have to read them!
Imagine being fired in the horrific publishing world that exists today (not that everyone's bad, but it's one of the most complicated and difficult industries in which to be successful)? Plum's forced to fire her staff and then gets canned herself. After securing a job in the debut book of this series, she quits and branches out on her own as the new realtor on an island in the Caribbean, where she seeks wealthy clients and over-the-top properties. She's found her niche this time, except she's balancing the former and current (or not so current) wife of a very notorious man. Can she work for both without drama? We'll see what happens in the third book, as I know it's coming to a head soon! This snappy dialog often makes me speechless, friends.
Meanwhile, the former employee whom she fired forces her to look after his assistant while the girl's visiting the island and causing trouble. But unfortunately, the poor girl ends up dead on an estate where they have lions and panthers and wild birds roaming around. Oh my! Let's not forget about the sharks. And strange lecherous old men. And fake celebrities. Noisy neighbors. What drama! Poor Plum... but she survives, even though Gerald, her former employee, descends upon the magical island and practically calls it his new home. Despite his super tight leather pants and lack of a tolerance for alcohol, he insists on solving the case, he tells Plum... except she's already being tortured by the possibly corrupt police chief and her new love interest (where nothing has happened yet) AKA the head of security for a nearby hotel.
Wow! Those aren't spoilers friends, those are the set-ups in this book. I've left out all the good stuff. This should be enough to convince you to read it. I loved this one... easily 4.5 stars, and on its way to more if the series keeps getting better, which I kinda think it will. So... grab a copy, get on board, and enjoy the wild ride with a very tall, very pale, very red-haired woman who is bossy and direct and kinda cool! Loving her. So will you.
This is a cozy mystery, and this is the second book in the Trouble in Paradise series. I really wanted to love this book, but I just did not. There was parts of the mystery that I did liked, but there was to much time was I feel there was nothing going on. This book just could not keep me wanting to keep going. I ended just making myself finish this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Aukstā un lietainā laikā labi lasīt detektīvu, kura darbība notiek tropiskā Karību salā - pludmale, eksotiski ēdieni un dzērieni, pa vidu arī kāda slepkavība.
If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be 'fun'!
Paraiso comes across as a fun and beautiful place to live. It's teeming with larger-than-life characters who aren't exactly realistic, but they're so amusing that it's easy to suspend your disbelief.
Also, much of the mystery is set in an enormous villa with lots of exotic animals, fake volcanoes, and cauldrons spitting out flames! This is a much different world than the typical cozy mystery and my goodness, did I enjoy immersing myself in it.
I also enjoyed how action-packed this book was. It was a suspenseful page-turner that kept me on the edge of my seat. It's the kind of book that's begging to be finished in one session.
My only critique is with the way that the mystery was resolved. I did like how there were multiple suspects with good motives to consider and thought that the mystery was fairly complex. However, I felt like the ending of the book wrapped up a little too quickly - at least, in comparison to the pace set by the rest of the novel.
For me, one of the most important elements in a cozy mystery is the mystery itself. Other readers who don't share my preferences may not share the same feelings as me about the book's pacing.
If you're looking for an escapist novel, I'd highly recommend giving this book a try. However, if you're looking for a more traditional cozy mystery or a cozy mystery with very realistic characters, I don't think this cozy is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an ARC. Do note that there is mild foul language and a bit of romance in this book.
When a spoiled and entitled heiress is murdered the list of potential suspects is long. Local businesswoman, Plum Lockhart, is acquainted with the woman's boss and since she has no faith in the local police soon finds herself involved in trying to solve another murder.
The beginning of the book was a bit overwhelming with numerous character introductions. I did stick with it and ended up liking the wide variety of characters. However, the best part was the wonderful tropical setting. Thanks to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for an advanced reader's copy. The opinions expressed are my own.
Plum Lockhart took a big step leaving New York for Paraiso, a Caribbean island overflowing with tourists. Now she takes another big step by starting her own villa brokerage agency. In the midst of finding the perfect tenants for her clients, renovating villas, and trying to get in a little beach time she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation.
A young publishing heiress runs into a little trouble in paradise and an old employee from New York, someone she fired right before she was let go, Gerald Hand, begs Plum to help the girl, his new boss’s daughter out of it. Plum does but then the next day she learns the heiress was found dead on the private beach of Dieter Friedrich, an eccentric fat cat with a crazy theme park-like estate with a group of bizarre friends and staff.
Soon Gerald arrives on the island and moves into Plum’s guest room to help her catch the killer. Gerald gets more caught up in island life while Plum deals with Dieter Friedrich, his employees, some B-List Celebrities, a rundown rockstar, and other assorted island residents as she works with the hunky Director of Hotel Security, Juan Kevin Munoz, to catch a killer before they become victims themselves.
_____
Paraiso is a zany island if you live there, hopefully, the tourists can avoid all the drama. Feuds between families, jealousy, greed, lust, envy, heck all the seven deadly sins are apparent on this island of paradise. Sadly our protagonist, Plum, a tall redheaded American, gets caught up in it all as she tries to find her place and solve a murder. Her new friend Lucia, a small sixty-year-old grandma Paraison, accompanied her to start her own villa broker agency Plum Lockhart Luxury Retreats. Lucia knows everyone and the ways of the island. It will take both of them to make the business a success. I wasn’t really a Plum fan when reading the 1st book in this series, It Takes Two to Mango, but I liked her much better in this book. She is still adjusting to island life but still has a lot of New York attitude to work through.
It is Juan Kevin Munoz, the Security Director that I really enjoy. His laid-back way of life is just so comfortable. He grew up on the island so while he takes things like murder very seriously he understands how to handle danger on Paraiso. His interactions with Plum are filled with romantic tension and are very entertaining. He is doing his best to keep her safe while the murder investigation unfolds. He knows she can’t keep her nose out of it and that knowledge is half the battle. Of course, having Gerald tagging along in his leather pants on a tropical island adds to the chaos but sometimes it is pretty darn funny.
Yes, there are a bunch of secondary characters but they all have unique traits, good and bad. Some live on unique estates too. The author’s descriptions really brought the people and places to life. Let me tell you, Dieter Friedrich has some outlandish tastes and weird things on his estate and I easily envisioned it all from her words.
The mysteries are very well-plotted and Ms. Doyle sets a quick pace. There was a slew of suspects to work through and again Plum isn’t always the best amateur sleuth, she needs to work a little more on her questioning and eavesdropping techniques but that just adds to the fun for readers. There were several twists and turns too but all the clues do come together setting up a very satisfying reveal.
Something’s Guava Give was a very amusing cozy mystery. Heavy on quirky characters but set on a delightful island paradise. The mystery was complicated and kept me guessing the whole way. I am looking forward to reading The Girl With the Dragonfruit Tattoo soon.
Plum Lockhart is focused on building her new business in Paraiso and is busier than ever. When she receives a call from her Frenemy, Gerald, asking him to check his boss’ daughter who has gotten into some trouble, she didn’t expect to end up involved in another murder case. Yet here she is, along side Gerald who has come down to vacation, I mean represent the family’s interests.
As Gerald and Plum work with Juan Kevin, head of security at Las Fruitas Resort, they meet and get involved with some very wealthy and famous people at the resort. It’s hard to tell who’s capable of murder and who’s just a blow hard trying to make themselves sound important. But as Plus, Gerald and Juan Kevin dig, they get deeper and deeper into the whack lives of those who were staying at the same house as the murder victim. Will Plum and the guys figure it out, or will Plum be spending the ever after in Paraiso?
The second book in the series, Carrie Dole has set her stage in paradise and the whacky and sometimes odd characters add to the mayhem of the whodunit. I love the author’s series set in the Hamptons and hope it comes back as that is also a super series that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Check out her books and give them a read.
Something’s Guava Give by Carrie Doyle is the second book in the Trouble in Paradise Mysteries and I enjoyed this one even more than the first!
As I mentioned in my review of the first book in the series, It Takes Two to Mango, Plum does take a bit to get use to since she is not your usual cozy mystery main character, and by that I mean, she’s not super sweet… which is a nice change of pace to have the lead be a bit more in charge and knowing exactly what she wants.
This series has a bit of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum vibe going for it… and even the same name of Plum! Some of the situations are a bit crazy; tigers and other exotic animals, interesting statues and an out of this world estate, and lots of secrets. I even chuckled a few times which is pretty rare for me when I read cozies.
Besides writing interesting characters, Doyle really has a way with words when it comes to describing locations and food. She could make any reader want to hop on a plane for an exotic location with all of her luscious descriptions… hopefully, without a murder.
Another fun and outrageous book in the Trouble in Paradise Mysteries, and I’m looking forward to book three in the series.
What happens when "influencers" buy into their own hype? They become inhuman and totally self-serving. And these are the very people who populate this interesting cozy mystery. The descriptions of everything and everyone are great, and the caricature characters had me ROFL. A nice fun read. I requested and received an ebook copy of this book from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
SOMETHING’S GUAVA GIVE, the second book in the Trouble in Paradise Mystery series by Carrie Doyle, is the perfect beach read or a cold winter day read when you’d like to dream of a tropical island getaway! In this newest release protagonist Plum Lockhart is settling in to living the island vibes. I found she wasn’t nearly as annoying as she came across in book one, which made the book more enjoyable for me. With Ms. Doyle’s strong descriptive voice, I felt the humid island heat, tasted the abundance of fresh island produce, heard the lapping of the waves, and feasted my eyes on the over-the-top habitats of the very wealthy. With a new murder to contend with, and her former employee, Gerald, arriving from New York to solve the murder, and a new villa rental agency to run, Plum has her hands full. There is snappy and snarky repartee between Plum and Gerald and he makes the unlikeliest of sidekicks… yet it works to add some humor to the mix. The gorgeous resort’s Director of Security, Juan Keven, is also invested in solving the case and I enjoyed how he and Plum have connected.
The murder mystery was well-plotted with suspects galore on who might have wanted to kill the kleptomaniac billionaire heiress. There were twists and turns to keep me guessing and zany characters to keep it entertaining. The reveal wrapped up the loose threads neatly and, while a bit rushed, left me satisfied and eager to revisit the island of Paraiso in the near future!
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Something's Guava Give is the second book in the Trouble in Paradise Mystery series by Carrie Doyle and I want to live in this paradise !
In Something's Guava Give main character Plum Lockhart has moved to Paraiso, an island in the Caribbean to reinvent herself and boy is she doing it in style !! After moving to Paraiso from New York City for a job in the first book in this series, It Takes Two to Mango, and getting involved in a murder investigation she takes things to the next level in Something's Guava Give. She left her job and opened up a competing business, Plum Lockhart Luxury Retreats, a villa broker agency. She was fortunate enough to take another employee, Lucia, with her.
In Something's Guava Give Plum is asked to go to the office of the head of security by her New York friend Gerald when his assistant which is also the boss's daughter causes trouble at the resort. Luckily Plum and the head of security Juan Kevin has history and she has no problem going there to help out Gerald's assistant, Arielle.......unfortunately Arielle is asked to vacant the resort which she does. However she goes to the residence of a friend of her parents and ends up dead the next morning. Gerald rushes to Paraiso to try to find out what happened and when it is ruled murder, he convinces Plum to look into the case and find out who killed her.
Readers will love reading this series and even though there are only two books in the series, so far, they are packed full of great material and people and you will want to jump on a plane as fast as Gerald did and find your own piece of paradise.....while hopefully staying out of trouble and staying alive.
In Something's Guava Give Doyle provides readers with a great cast of characters to add to your list of suspects and when something else happens to shake things up, readers will be sent back to the drawing board to start all over again. Doyle also has the amazing ability to open your imagination so that what you are reading will come alive in your head. You will be able to picture everything as if it were actually real and it will leave you breathless......
3.25 stars. Something’s Guava Give is light, cozy mystery in a delightful tropical setting. This is book 2 of a series, but it can be read as a standalone. Plum Lockhart is a former NYC publishing executive who decided to move to Paraiso, a fictional island in the Caribbean. She decided to dabble in real estate and property rentals, finally deciding to start her own company, owning and managing villa rentals.
After helping the police solve a murder in the first book of the series, Plum thinks quite highly of herself as having a knack for sleuthing, and quickly inserts herself in another investigation in this second book. There are several quirky characters and relationships to keep track of, but this whodunit isn’t overly complicated. There’s some humor and wit, romantic tension, and some of the dialogue made me smile. The author is adept at bringing Paraiso to its lush, colourful life and you can almost feel the tropical breeze. Some may find the story and some of the characters a tad cheesy, but if you enjoy a light cozy mystery that’s a bit wacky, and you need a vacation, this may be a great palate cleanser.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for the electronic advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Plum Lockhart has settled in to life on the Caribbean island of Paraiso. A New Yorker, she hasn’t totally adjusted to the laid back lifestyle but she has her new business, Plum Lockhart Luxury Rentals, up and running and she’s exploring a relationship with Juan Kevin Muñoz, the head of security at Las Frutas resort. So when Gerald Hand, a frenemy from her days in publishing, asks her to help Arielle Waldron who is accused of petty theft at the resort, she has no idea what she is getting into.
Arielle belongs to a different side of Paraiso. A place where long, concealed driveways lead to mansions overlooking the sea. A place where feuding billionaires with long past history argue over minor slights. A place where lions and cheetahs stalk vast estates. And a place where bodies start to pile up. Could Plum be next?
Something’s Guava Give is the second in the totally delightful Plum Lockhart series. While it reads as a standalone, go back and read It Takes Two to Mango because it is equally good. This series is unique, laugh out loud funny and full of delightful characters. I especially loved Dieter Friedrich, a German Joe Exotic, “diminutive former weatherman” Gary Grigorian and aging rockstar Johnny Wisebrook (think of Mick Jagger). I can’t wait for the next Plum Lockhart adventure! 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and Carrie Doyle for this ARC.
Carrie Doyle's 2nd instalment in her Trouble in Paradise series, Something's Guava Give was a really fun read. Following It Takes Two to Mango, it tracks protagonist Plum Lockhart who is settling into island life on Paraiso in the Caribbean. When a visiting young heiress from New York is found murdered on billionaire tycoon Dieter Friedrich's estate, Plum, the head of her own villa broker agency, Plum Lockhart Luxury Retreats, assists her friend Gerald to investigate. Juan Kevin Munoz, the distracting Director of Security helps Plum out. A quick, amusing read with lots of suspects and a sublime setting.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley at my request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Plum Lockhart lives in paradise, but solving murders has given her a new perspective of the quaint Caribbean island of Paraiso. This time, Plum has to help solve the murder of an unpopular guest, on the island, who was murdered. Plum finds herself using all the talents, from her former life in New York, to keep herself alive and her fledgling Travel Agency afloat!
I enjoyed the book and the characters who inhabit the island. Lucia was a favorite and of course, the director of security, Juan Kevin was perfect. Plum's attitude has softened, somewhat, and she appears more comfortable questioning suspects, but there's still the New Yorker in her. The mystery was fun and I look forward to the next sleuthing adventure!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Fast-paced second book in the Trouble in Paradise series. Honestly, I enjoyed this book much more than the first one. Plum seems to have mellowed some and is much less abrasive. I think the island life is definitely starting to agree with her.
The mystery, overall storyline, and the red herrings make for an interesting and exciting read. And I really enjoyed the bits of humor mixed in.
Many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery set in the islands of the Pacific Ocean. A New Yorker, tired of the grind, goes to a vacation in Paradise. But she ends up embroiled in a murder investigation with a hot local policeman. Great start to a new cozy mystery series. The narration was also excellent.
I want to thank the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for giving me an advance copy of this audiobook, in return for an honest review.
The Trouble in Paradise series just keeps getting better! I found the story to be fast-paced, with lots of humor, and an exciting storyline that will keep readers guessing. I enjoy that Doyle has settled her main character a bit.
Thank you NetGalley & Poisoned Pen Press for the eARC of Something's Guava Give in exchange for my honest review.
Plum Lockhart is back in action in Something’s Guava Give, the second installment in the ‘Trouble in Paradise!’ series. Still settling into her new life in Paraiso, Plum is in the thick of building her new business and navigating island politics. However it was only a matter of time until a new mystery arose for her to solve. This time the death of a wealthy heiress draws her frenemy Gerard back to the island insisting Plum help him solve the mystery of her demise.
I’ll start by saying I enjoyed this book much, much more than book one in the series. When first introduced to Plum it was incredibly hard to like her and I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue with the story. But I saw a couple of reviews that said it was worth it to push through to the end so I did. I didn’t love Plum by the end of the book, but she had grown on me a considerable amount. I was glad to see this book continued her growth and character development, from a cold-hearted, annoying New Yorker, to an actually enjoyable person seeking balance and real connections in her new life. Though Plum still has her moments she was much much more enjoyable to read this time around, and I got through the book much faster because of that.
Doyle has a strong talent for creating dynamic characters, that each stand tall with their own unique personalities, who you either love or love to hate. There is a wide dynamic created among the cast of characters largely due to economic statuses and perceived importance. This lends to comical interactions and levels of story telling that I am excited to see explored further in future installments.
Even though I think character creation is where Doyle truly thrives, the mystery in this novel was extremely entertaining. Often when too many potential suspects are introduced in mystery novels I think the picture can get too muddled and confusing, but Doyle managed to weave a web of mystery and intrigue with her plot that kept me engaged start to finish wrapped up perfectly. The mystery was fun to solve along with Plum, and had real depth and intrigue.
While Something’s Guava Give does follow the same sort of format as most cozy mysteries do, I enjoyed it quite a lot. However I do think, with the heavy emphasis and detailed descriptions of food in the book that it would be a nice addition to add a couple of recipes to the back of the book like I have seen other cozy series add.
In the end I have enjoyed both books in the ‘Trouble in Paradise!’ series so far and would definitely recommend them to someone who is looking to get into the genre.
This is a fun cozy mystery. I would probably have rated this a 5 star in written form, but I am reviewing the audio portion. The "accents" were a bit distracting, and it was difficult to discern which character was speaking - thus the confusion. It's a good mystery plot - rather long with lots of details that don't necessarily add to the storyline but then again it could have just been me having confusion over the which character was speaking. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this advanced review copy. In return, I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
This is the second installment in the Trouble in Paradise cozy mystery series by Carrie Doyle. It remained tropical, summery, and fun. I could imagine this series playing out as a show on Netflix or Hulu. There’s just something so charming about it. The descriptions are perfect and so dreamy. The characters are all over the top and in Something’s Guava Give even more of the island’s residents are introduced.
Plum has decided to stay in Paraiso and has opened her very own villa broker agency. It’s a work in progress but not much progress is made because a publishing heiress from NYC who was vacationing in Paraiso is found dead at the mansion of an eccentric tycoon, and Plum’s old colleague, Gerald asks for her help in the investigation. This book is packed with scheming millionaires, sleazy rock stars, and devious B-list celebrities. Gerald ends up flying to Paraiso to bunk with Plum while the loose ends of the investigation are tied up, and Plum and Juan Kevin Munoz once again team up to find out who killed the heiress.
There were lots of characters coming and going. The aforementioned millionaires, rock stars and celebrities as well as the heiress’s best friend who she was vacationing with, and lots of guests and friends of the eccentric tycoon. Imagine a Spanish style mansion with lions and panthers and wild birds roaming around, sharks in the pool, multiple guest rooms with people coming and going, a disco party, the works. “In the glittering Caribbean starlight, Villa la Grosella Negra took on an entirely new identity. Although it was still gaudy and vulgar, an example of when someone has too much money and entirely no taste, the tiki lights festooned around the disparate structures gave it a hint of the ethereal. Combined with the fake volcanoes, the plethora of firepits, and the massive cauldrons spouting flames, the property emitted a mysterious and tantalizing vibe”. Then on top of all that she is contending with Gerald who randomly crashes at her townhouse/business, drinks more than he works and you just have a lot going on.
I think it had too many characters coming and going and I don’t particularly enjoy reading about the rich and famous, and there was definitely not enough of Juan Kevin, so while I enjoyed it for sure and definitely plan to continue in the series, I didn’t quite enjoy this installment as much as the first.
In this latest novel in the Trouble in Paradise series, Something’s Guava Give, we head back to the beautiful island of Paraiso and into the life of Plum Lockhart as she once again finds herself unexpectedly tied up in a murder investigation and working with the handsome Director of Security, Juan Kevin Muñoz when a publishing heiress she tried to help out of some legal trouble winds up murdered while staying at the villa of the rich and famous Dieter Friedrich where she had only recently relocated.
The writing style is fluid and fun. The characters are inquisitive, spontaneous, and intelligent. And the plot is a lighthearted, quirky tale brimming with suspicious personalities, island living, misdirection, amateur sleuthing, flirtation, deduction, and murder.
Overall, I found Something’s Guava Give to be another entertaining, humorous, easy tale by Doyle that was certainly a refreshing read between all the dark, gritty, psychological thrillers that seem to be filling up my TBR at the moment.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press for gifting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Something’s Guava Give by Carrie Doyle is an excellent cozy mystery that is the second book in the wonderful Trouble in Paradise! Series. I loved it!
Plum Lockhart had escaped the stressful and cutthroat NYC environment for the Caribbean dream of Paraiso. She thought it would be all sun, sand, and selling at her broker agency but is snared into a bit of amateur sleuthing when she is asked to help find the real culprit of a local murder…can she balance it all…and keep her sanity in the process? I loved finding out.
I love Plum. She is smart and sassy. The picturesque locale pairs nicely with the over-the-top and memorable collection of characters and the murder/mystery. Plenty of suspects, and that paired with the narrative, kept me engaged throughout.
Looking forward to the next book.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Poisoned Pen Press for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 1/25/22.
This is Book #2 in this series. The first book, Takes Two to Mango, was fantastic so I was looking forward to reading this one! The main character, Plum Lockhart, ditched her corporate job in NYC and moved to the Caribbean island of Paraiso. She is in charge of her own villa broker agency. She spends her days chasing down clients and lounging on white sand beaches.
The premise of the book is when a publishing heiress is found dead, Plum's old colleague asks her to investigate. There are many suspects including a conniving millionaire, a real life rock star and b-list celebrities. Joining Plum in her investigation is the gorgeous Juan Kevin Munoz, Director of Security. Sparks fly as they try to find out whodunit! Swoon.....
A great cozy mystery based in the Caribbean leaves you longing for sand, surf, romance, and mystery! Another solid book from this author.
Looking forward to reading Book #3 and following Plum's adventures!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Plum Lockhart is getting comfortable on the island of Paraiso running her business Plum Lockhart Luxury Rentals. Having left her job in publishing back in New York City she has reinvented herself. What's the occasional murder when the tropics are you new home? Plum is about to find out when her frenemy, Gerald turns up and a murder needs to be solved she sets out to catch a killer. What a wild list of suspects! Plus exotic animals and people with boat loads of money and plenty of secrets to keep hidden. From a well crafted mystery, a beautiful setting, a crazy bunch of characters and lots of humor, this is a cozy series that made me forget about the cold winter weather outside. I'm ready to escape into the next Plum Lockhart mystery ASAP. My thanks to the publisher Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Something's Guava Give is the 2nd book in the Trouble in Paradise mystery series written by Carrie Doyle.
I have to admit I haven't read the first book or even heard of this author, But after reading this, I'll totally read her books and read the first book in the series.
If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be 'fun'!
Paraiso comes across as a fun and beautiful place to live. It's teeming with larger-than-life characters who aren't exactly realistic, but they're so amusing that it's easy to suspend your disbelief.
Paraiso sounds like a fabulous island to spend time on (except for the murders).; sunny, a beautiful beach, and amazing food and drinks. The mystery was solid, with plenty of suspects to keep you guessing until the very end. I think my issue with this story is that I haven’t warmed to Plum. There’s nothing wrong with her; I just don’t connect. I like Juan Kevin but Gerard was not my favorite.
Narration was well done, no issues.
I received a copy from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
