Scandalous Slopes #1

Escaping the Cold: Scandalous Slopes, Book 1

Rate this book
Starting new chapter in my life never felt so cold.

Nothing like picking up and moving across country on a whim.

My name is Cait Monroe, and I’d love to find a nice small ski town and live happily ever after, but I’ve promised to help my mom get back on her feet. So when Mom decides that she, along with my half sister, should pack up and go on an eight-month road trip out of nowhere, I tag along. For my sister's sake.

It's only then, when we settle into the new city and new way of life, that my past comes back to haunt me. Threats lurk around every corner, and I only want to move on. I struggle figuring out how to build a new life for myself and not knowing who to trust. So when four very sexy guys insert themselves into my life, I’m wary. Why are they doing this? What could they want with me?

As the sense of danger grows ever closer, the truth of my past becomes overwhelming and I fight for control.

Can I find refuge in this storm, and escape the peril the cold of night brings?

Escaping the Cold is book 1 of the Scandalous Slopes series, a dark reverse harem romance. This means the female main character will have three or more love interests and will not have to choose in the end. This book also has a trigger warning grooming, mentions of history of child SA, PTSD. and stalking, sexually explicit scenes, explicit language, plus haunted house situations including arachnids/insects, clowns, and dolls. For full series warnings, please visit the author's website.

Holy fucking shiznuts. My heart is racing and I felt like I was going to be sick the entire last chapter! And that ending!!! That fucking ending did me in. I knew it was coming but fuck me nothing could’ve prepared me for it!

Escaping the Cold was absolutely phenomenal! I’d say that I’m impressed with how incredible it was, especially since it’s Natasha’s first book, but that would be an understatement. I cannot put most of my thoughts into words (my head is still spinning) but here’s what I can say… Cam better be kissing the ground Cait walks on AND her ass in the next book. He’s hot as fuck but boy was he a jackass the last few chapters. Let’s not project our insecurities on Cait in the future dear, mkay? Being hot as Satan’s anus and an alpha-hole will only get you so far in life. (To be clear tho it’ll get you everywhere with me… so if Cait doesn’t take him I will. *winks*)

If you’re looking for a book that’ll have you screaming at a pitch so high only dogs can hear it then you need to grab Escaping the Cold… Oh and don’t forget to get batteries and snag an extra pair of panties. The chemistry in this book was off the charts!

Escaping the Cold is Natasha's first book and in my eyes a big succes.

It was phenomenal.

A dark rh romance, with snowboarders.

And a FMC who just moved across the country ready to rule her own life.

I didn't see the twists and turning of the plot coming (but loved them).

I like how each guy is different but they belong together to work.

I loved seeing how she meets every guys and seeing her deal with her emotions/feelings with each of them.

Cait is a strong girl but is still dealing with some past trauma.

That cliffhanger .... I need the next book pretty please.

I am in suspense.

I am really invested in this book.

Escaping the PLOT, I mean Cold is a confusing book.

description

I was ready to drop into this book expecting a sexy alpine adventure, but instead, I just face-planted into a slow-burn purgatory 😆 with barely any spice.

There's a second book and I don't care to find out if the love interests will unite to make babies for this godforsaken earth.

Nothing happened...

We learn about the fmc who's very mature for her age. This unusually intelligent girl meets a group of guys. One guy in particular - already forgot his name - is smitten by her. He doesn't mind sharing but they've been in a fucked up situation before. Therefore, they're all reluctant to carve into her dry pssy.

aaanyyywaaayyy, her friends are more interesting than her. Perhaps that's why her love life suffered, just like my flaccid dick.

So after nothing happening, they visited a haunted house with dolls *insert cliffy*

Oh my goodness this was so good. I was enthralled with it from the very beginning. I absolutely love Cait and her personality. She is super strong and loving. She has this great attitude throughout the entire story. The guys are fantastic and I absolutely loved Corey and his enthusiasm. We slowly are learning more about the other guys as the story progresses. It was extremely well written and developed. I truly can not believe this was a debut novel. It has descriptions that definitely adds to the story and allows me to easily picture what is occurring throughout the story. The ending though that was just mean, lol. No seriously it ends in a major cliffhanger that just has me greatly anticipating the next book in the series. This is an absolute must read and doesn’t disappoint.

This book is a debut for this author. I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to read more of Cait story. Cait, her mom and baby sister have been traveling over the US and are settling in Colorado. When she first meets the guys things click. This book has so much tension. There are secrets we get some answers but for the most we are left with questions. I can't wait for book two after that cliffhanger.

Wow! I loved this book! Every twist and turn in the plot, I never saw coming! I was on the edge of my seat this whole book!

Each guys in the book is so different that they work together so seamlessly! Cait is one lucky girl and while she is confused and dealing with past trauma, she’s still so strong and outgoing.

That cliffy! That had me! Like wow! I’m speechless!

You would never guess that this is a debut novel. It was fantastic.

We have a dark, why choose romance, with gorgeous snow boarders, their manager and an FMC who has just moved across the country and is ready to take control of her life.

The side characters are fantastic.

The suspense in this book left us wanting more, as did the cliffy. Can't wait for book 2.

This book is amazing! The female main character is immensely strong though slightly foolish at times. I wish she understood what was going on and trusted the men more but i understood why she didn't in the long run. The book itself is amazingly well written the characters are well thought out and the information we sre given is good. I can not wait to see what happens in the next book! That cliff is steeep but oh so worth it

I just…le sigh. I finished begrudgingly finished this trilogy. It wasn’t *awful* but I found the author’s writing style to be a bit off? The MCs are low key formal in their vernacular.

The way the guys screwed up so epically that resulted in her subsequent assault was completely unforgivable, and there was no redemption to be found in my opinion. However, she almost instantly forgave them after like a solid week. Like wtf?

My biggest issue with this trilogy was FMC’s mom. She’s pretty nonexistent, and after Cait’s abuse and stalking by her mom’s ex husband, Mom gets eloped in Vegas to a guy that Cait hasn’t even met? WHAT? I just…no. I’m sorry, but no. We don’t support neglectful mothers who don’t take their child’s precious and current trauma into account when approaching new relationships.

An absolute phenomenal debut novel! I loved every second of this book. I loved the characters and Cait is a real BAB, and I love her flirtatious yet shy side. Corey is a delight, and love the daddy vibes from Dom. Cameron is still a mystery and I enjoyed his chapters but Bash, man I love Bash. Hands down my favorite character and I’m staking claim 🤤 .

Hate the way the guys pulled away at the end but can’t wait to see where book 2 leads and how they’re going to overcome that cliffhanger.

Honestly the book is badly written. It makes no sense why the boys don’t trust her. The planning for why they leave her in the haunted house makes no sense. What was the goal? Dialogue is bad and pacing is terrible. Why we have to read through her day to day actions, I have no idea. This series could have been a standalone or duet with the chapters that actually meant anything.

I'm giving 3 stars because this is the authors first work and reading her foreword, I think it's awesome what she did.

That said...
I didn't love this book.

Cait, her sister, Lily, and their mom have been on the road for that last several months until her mother gets a job that brings them to Golden, Colorado.
Cait suffers from some sort of issue (that we don't learn about until the end of the book) that makes it hard for her to connect with other people, especially guys that she's "dating".
Arriving in Golden, she meets Corey, Cam, Bast, and Dom and it's clear that there's something about them that captivates her in a way different to how she's ever responded in the past.

The biggest thing that bothered me about this book was Cam and his insistence that Cait was up to something or being dishonest or whatever his problem was. I never got why he was so insistent she was being shady... nothing about her or her behavior would insinuate that she was being how he claimed... it made no sense to me. It was manufactured drama that didn't make sense to me other than it being used as a tool to make the story work, but wasn't even slightly believable.

Also, the book was longer for no other reason than to be a longer book. The story could have been just as effective with a hundred less pages. After Cait meets the guys and gets involved with one of them... there's a lot of making plans to meet up, texting, and happenstance run-ins. We get the run down of Cait's day to day - going to work, caring for her sister, going to school... pages and pages of Caits days with not much happening other than the same thing over and over until finally stuff starts to happen in the last 15% of the book.

There's also a lot of retelling the same stuff. She'll tell one person and then tell another person and as a reader, we're reading the same incident multiple times as a character experiences it and they share it... multiple times.
Another thing (which is kind of a pet peeve for me) is between chapters, when its switching between two different POVs, the author does a sort of rewind and tells the same event, just through a different perspective. If there was something different that we'd missed or there was something relevant to the story that we needed to know in order to understand the events, it'd be fine. But, usually, it was just retelling what happened between two characters from a different character's viewpoint. So, essentially, we're getting two chapters of the same thing just once from one character and then again from another.

I'm being nitpicky.
For a first time author, this was relatively good. It just happened to hit on a few things that I find annoying.

I will say that the whole conflict (I don't want to spoil it, but 'conflict' seems inadequate to describe the stuff that is revealed at the end) was interesting and kind of caught me off guard. I had my suspicions after a few hints were dropped in the earlier chapters, but I did not see that ending coming.
It did prompt me to immediately download book 2 of this series wanting to know how it all played out, but by the time I hit the 30% of the second book, I was essentially done with the series.
At least, for now.
I might come back to this at some point and finish it out.

Broken heart needs mending

This was classified as a RH and yes there is interest with the other guys but she has only been with Corey. They have shared women before but then act like it's a sin or whatever even when Corey says it's ok. It's to confusing and takes to long to get to all of them. I was hoping for them all to be together atleast by the end of this 1st book because reading the second one it seems like she is abandon and won't go back to them. Atleast for awhile. But is this only 2 book seties or more. I dont know how you will get so much done in book 2 with her being ticked off with the guys making up and being together. Besides what she has done with Corey it seemed like a slowburn. And the fact that she knows she likes them all but doesn't say anything even when Corey bring it up. Idk this book frustrated me alot. The relationship part of it anyways the rest of it was really good. I wish they all would of been together by the end of this book. Even tho I have a feeling it's going to take awhile in the next book for them to be together I can't wait for book 2. Cause like I said the book itself is really good. Just me myself is frustrated with the writing of the other guys. Author you did a great job making me frustrated but also loving this book. Can't wait for the next.

Wow! I was not expecting this debut to feel as if she has been doing this for years rather than this being her first book! I was hooked from the beginning to the end. The characters & world building was so good I felt as if I was there and could picture it all clearly.

I really enjoyed the way our fmc meets each of the guys, and the struggle she has with her feelings between them all. It feels more realistic, and it’s nice to see each relationship separate from each other. May not have had a lot of spice in this first book, but what it does have is fantastic and hot as hell!

This story has some good twists that I could feel building up throughout the storyline, just waiting for the right time to be revealed. It was amping up and I was page turning so quickly needing to find out what was going on... and then one situation and it starts to make sense! The last bit of this book had me on edge, feeling the emotions of the fmc, wanting to punch a few guys. I became so invested in these characters and then that ending had me like…NOOOOOOO! You can’t do this to me!! 😱😱

I loved this book and can’t wait for book 2! I’m completely impressed that this is the authors debut novel, and can’t wait to see what comes next!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are relatable even when I didn't like them.
I loved Cait and her sister. They were both strong and growing up sooner than they should. I didn't like the mom at all. She was rarely there. Cait was doing all the parenting (including registering her sister for school). Then she shows up and says some mom stuff, and Cait is just so understanding. I didn't like that. I'm hoping someone points out that Cait is basically the mom.

The guys were easy to tell apart with their own personalities:
Corey was amazing, but he kept putting her in situations she didn't really want to be in, and they didn't really communicate well.
Bast was the broody quiet guy who I hope speaks up more in the next book.
Cam ran hot and cold and seemed to have his own issues that he was projecting everywhere.
Dominic is older and should know how to communicate properly, but his guilt over the age gap is just taking over.

I didn't fully understand what the point of the ending was with regards to the guys. How did that prove if she's lying or hiding stuff? It just proves they suck and shouldn't listen to Cam, and I hope there's a ton of groveling in the next book and that Cait is okay.

Great one sit read

This is my first time reading this author, I think this series may be her debut, and for a debut read it was fantastic. Strong plot, plenty of character development, good editing, and fantastic character chemistry (along with some steam and spice that actually worked really well for the plot as well). The fmc (Cait) has a very traumatic past that could definitely be triggering for some (including mention and recall of child molestation and rape). The recall, as Cait works through her nightmares, was somewhat intense. The guys are fun to get to know, especially Corey who is downright adorable and sooo sweet and sexy. My single critique would be with the way the possibility of a poly relationship was introduced into the story. I'm struggling to say much without giving away spoilers but it just didn't seem plausible and felt way too convenient, both the person who brings it up as well as there reasoning for why it made sense. That one plot point didn't really work smoothly for me but the story and the characters are so good it definitely didn't stop me from reading or enjoying this book and then immediately moving on to book two in the same day! Definitely worth the time and read.

I usually don't like winter (the season), but ready schmexy books about winter sports, I'm all in 😉. Natasha Pierce did an amazing job with her debut book, I felt like I was reading something by a seasoned author. The world building was great, I felt submersed in the book and watching everything play out between the characters. I also loved the multi POV, this is one of my favorite ways to read books, especially in RH.

I like that when the FMC meets the she's not certain about her feelings with them. And I like that each relationship is it's own, it's not all lumped into one giant relationship. It makes it a bit more realistic than the rush that some why choose books can be. Since it's book 1 and they're building the relationships there's not too much 🌶 , you do know it's going to be 🔥 when it happens.

The more we got into the book, you just knew that once the bulk of the plotline was revealed, it was going to be good! And it did not disappoint, I was on the edge of my seat just wanting to know what happens next, and then I reached the end of the book (AH)!

I'm looking forward to the next book where we can learn more about the characters and get past this cliffhanger!

Oh mercy was this book so damn good. This is from a new arthur for me and it won't be my last. This book literally had me on the edge of my seat between the sexual tension and the stalker vibes in here. It was just so good. Cait and her mom and little sister end up in Colorado after packing up their home in Florida. They're starting over in a new town when she runs into 2 guy's Corey and Cam when she's coming out of a store, but only Corey is brave enough to get her number as they hit it off right away.
But soon Cam and their other best friend Sebastian have their own run in with her and soon they see why Corey likes this girl, and don't want to ruin it for Corey, but then they can't really stop their attraction for her either.
But they're about to start getting ready for snowboarding competitions and think thing's will settle down and she'll be just another girl ha these boy's have it bad. Then her stalker makes a move. That's all I'm saying you just need to go in blind and enjoy the hell out of this book. It is a slow burn, but not for long lol and it is a why choose. I can't wait for the next book, especially after that cliffhanger ending.

WOW!!! What a debut book!!! Yes this is Natasha's first book but by reading it you really would not guess it!!! It seems like it has been written by a seasoned pro!! The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars was because I wanted just a little bit more back story about Cait and her family. And yes I know that might come with other books but I felt there was so much character development with every one else but them. But otherwise I am loving it....well that cliffy got me like ugh!!!! But I love all the multiple pov's like that is catnip to me. Especially in these reverse harem books. And oh lord these men even grumpy Cam I just want to eat up!! I don't even know who is my favorite yet or if all of them are. Like really Corey is just so fun loving and Bast is just so awkward but sweet and then Dom is the older brother of the group but also can be a combination of all three of them. So I would choose them all if I could too!! Like I really hope I don't have to wait to long for book 2 because I am in need for it now!!! I highly highly recommend this book!!

I am blown away! I loved it! It’s hard to believe this is a debut book. Natasha killed it. The characters, the relationships, the writing, and the worldbuilding are all fantastic. I found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t put it down! This is a dark, why choose romance with super-hot snowboarders, what’s not to love?! There are twists and turns I never saw coming, and I love that it’s different than any other book I’ve read. I am not a winter person, but this book makes me want to curl up next to a fire with some hot cocoa and read all about smexy snowboarders. Cait the FMC, her mom, and her sister have been traveling across the country, and it’s finally time for them to put down roots. I love when she meets the guys and watching them try to work out their relationship issues. They aren’t sure what to do with their feelings and I really enjoyed watching them try to figure it all out. The cliffhanger though!! How could she end it there?! I saw it coming but still wasn’t prepared! I can’t wait for the next book! If you’re on the fence about this book, just read it, you won’t be disappointed!

Wow.... Warning, this book will start the beginning of what will be major triggers, but they are very mild in this one.

Cait is finally going to have some roots, something she hasn't had in a LONG time. Her mom, her sister, and herself have been on a long road trip. Her mom has found a job and asked Cait to come with them and stay at least a little while. She's going to start college at UC in Denver, she's going to have a job, meet new people, perfect life, right??

Maybe not, there's a danger waiting in the shadows and it might cause Cait to lose some people that could be the thing that saves her most.

This one at times was fustrating. I hate to say it, but I saw the 'climax of trauma' coming and sadly, called WHAT it was. I am not proud of that, but ya just know sometimes what some trauma presents as. This book isn't always easy to read, but I have a BAD feeling the next two are going to be TOUGH, but Natasha deserves for us to keep reading with her till the very last THE END at the end of book three.

I listened to the audiobook while following along with the book for this read and I absolutely loved Escaping the cold! I'm out here dangling off a cliff, but luckily, I can dive right into the next one with no wait! The narration performance from Paige Reisenfeld and PJ Freebourn is wonderful and I feel they did the characters justice!

We've got Cait, a 19 year old girl who moves to Golden, CO with her mom and sister after spending time living in the road. Everything is seemingly normal until Cait starts to feel like she's being watched when out and about town occasionally.

Then there's these gorgeous professional snowboarders she's just met, Corey, Sebastian, Cam, and their coach Dom. My poor girl is wrangling a lot of men out here! Her and Corey grow close quickly, but he's also throwing out there that he's down to share, and she is drawn to all of them. But will it work out? Or will it all go down in flames?

I can't wait to see where this trilogy goes, like I said I'm dangling off a cliff here and can't wait to get into the next book!

The premise of this book was interesting and I’m genuinely invested in the characters. I jumped straight into book 2.
I listened to the audiobook of this one, which I think highlighted the main issues I had more than if I’d read it myself.
Those issues being that the conversational language was a struggle more than once. The way the main character in particular “spoke” was completely unnatural. I understand that perhaps the logic was to explain things to the reader, but it was so unnecessary detailed in recapping things to other characters that didn’t need to be said because they were “there” so to speak.
It was also super repetitive on more than one occasion.
“I got you girl” so many times I lost track, and reiterated key story points over and over felt really unnecessary and took me out of the story.
I believe this was one of this authors first books and I’ve read her later work so assume this was just her finding her feet.
Despite all of that, the desire to see how it plays out has kept me reading so I’d still recommend it, just know what to expect.

What. Was. That. Ending!?!? What just happened! I am terrified about what's going to happen in book 2 because there's a few secrets that need to come out so there's not a giant misunderstanding...

Anyway, this is a debut book. I didn't know what to expect going into it. I knew it involved snowboarders, which I had not read before, drama and steam. There isn't too much spice in this one, but it's definitely 🥵🥵

I loved Cait. From the beginning you can tell she's had some sort of trauma in her past. She's blocked some of it out, and at one point in time, it all comes rushing back in and is a bit overwhelming. I do love the guys too, but I have a feeling I'm not going to like them when book two starts...

This one was unique to me as I have not read a book revolving around snowboarding and the X Games, but there's also another aspect of Cait that I have not read before. It is also a college romance, which I can't get enough of. I'm so excited for the next one!!!

Escaping the Cold is an intriguing debut novel by Natasha Pierce. This is the first book I’ve read about snowboarders, and I thought that was fun and different! We follow Cait, who is nineteen but still lives with her mom to help with her little sister while they live and travel in their RV. They finally decide to settle down in Golden, Colorado.

Cait meets Corey, Cameron, Sebastian and Dominic and she immediately feels drawn to them, and them to her. She starts dating Corey, but she is confused by her feelings because she wants them all, and how can she be with them all? She also meets Ella, who turns out to be the bestie dreams are made of - she’s so cheerful and supportive of Cait, and I want to go shopping with her!

Cait has a traumatic past that is catching up with her, adding an air of mystery to the story. I have so many questions, and can’t wait for the next book to get some answers!

I really loved Cait. She is someone that I could see hanging out with. She is going to school, helping her family, and settling into a new place. I loved her friendship with Ella and her relationship with her sister. I have mixed feelings about the guys. I like Bast and Corey mostly..Cam is kind of a jerk, and I don’t really get what he was suspicious of. Dom is the older, age gap, hottie. They all could have used better communication. At times I wanted to shake them, because they would be like, we should talk about this and then they don’t. I’m not really sure what the guys plan at the end was supposed to prove, other than they are jerks and need to do some groveling. While we meet all the guys who are part of the RH, the RH itself is developing slowly - although they are all interested and have some steamy moments. I’m excited to see where this series is going - hopefully book 2 is out soon because that cliffy…….

I don't know what kinda crack this woman put into this book but I am HOOKED on this series!!
It has a mystery element that had my brain working in overdrive.
It has delicious men who make you weak at the knees.
It has a sport that people love in the snow.
When going into this book all I knew was that is was a dark why choose that involves snowboarding.
When I tell you I finished this book in like three days!! I couldn't stop reading because I was so engrossed in the characters. This is a slowish burn and I say that because she doesn't it on with all the guys in the first book. There is a development between all of them but the spice does happen in this book. I laughed and cried a lot with this book and that cliffhanger pissed me off to the heavens.
I will tell you this, the darker the cover the darker the book. Both in spice and triggers/content warnings. Make SURE you read those before starting just incase there is something that you would feel uncomfortable with.

Holy cliffhanger!!

Okay, so it took me several chapters to really get into this book. This is likely because I’m a mood reader, and my mood has just been sort of off for little bit. I hit a bit of a reading slump.

However, once I hit the 60% mark I could NOT put this down! This New Age-Why Choose-Sports Romance suddenly becomes a Psychological Thriller??

I truly didn’t see the end of this book happening, and I especially didn’t realize it would end in the way that it did. I immediately went to look for book 2 so I could keep reading.

This story is set in Colorado, and I could picture the places my best friend has told me about in regular conversation as if I had been there myself. The vivid descriptions of the scenery and events taking place during a pivot point in the book actually reminded me of a local place I frequent. It turns out, the author was inspired by that location so I’m glad I picked up on that.

I cant wait for more!!!

Escaping the Cold is book #1 in the Scandalous Slopes series. Its a dark reverse harem. Make sure to check the trigger warning.

I cant believe this is a debut novel!

Cait has just moved to a small, ski town and is helping her mom with her little sister. She loves their new home, loves her new job and meets 4 hot guys that she can't stop thinking about.

Corey, Cam, Bast, and Dom are all so freaking HOT!!! Some fall instantly for Cait, some fight it, but they cant deny that they fit perfectly. When Caits past comes back to ruin her present, everything could be ruined.

That cliffhanger!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!! I can't wait for the next book!!! I couldn't put this down. I love the characters, i love the world, I love the mystery and i love the spice!

Its a perfect start to the series!
