Rate this book
When Brianna finds herself in ancient Scotland near the MacClaren Keep, she must utilize her skills and keep her wits to prevent all-out war between the clan and the British while fighting her growing attraction to the handsome Scotsman sent to assist.

The trauma Brianna suffered as a hostage negotiator in Chicago haunts her even as she moves on with her new life and career, taking a romantic trip to Scotland with her boyfriend. But when she catches him cheating and flees, she finds herself lost in a thick fog and ultimately at the Weatherby Manor, hundreds of years in the past and amid a tumultuous time.

Initially reluctant to believe Weatherby’s story about time traveling women of the clan, when Robert MacClaren arrives to negotiate with the Lord and claims she’s the reincarnation of his dead love, she’s forced to address the fact that this is all very real. So is the growing unrest between the refugees seeking assistance after a crop failure and Lord Weatherby.

Silver-tongued Robert does his best to quell the tension between the two groups and also convince Brianna of their fate together, and she finds herself falling for the handsome bard while they’re on the brink of war.

When the manor is attacked, Brianna must utilize her skills to aid Robert and also face the fact that while their lives are in danger, they’re also inexplicably intertwined.

Good series but the author has some editing to do.

I really love the premise and stories in this series but I have to admit that this Author is not good at remembering her previous characters and storylines. Which really jerks me out of the world when I do remember them and she is messing them up in her new books. She needs to either hire a content editor or keep a character list so when she does her “info dump” in the next books she is telling you the correct information. Because it’s jarring to be told that two people are sisters when you’ve read the previous books and know that that’s not true or to be told someone’s old job was with the police when you know they were a geologist. That was stuff that happens in this book and the actual characters weren’t even in this book they were kept separate due to refugees/political unrest and highway men on the roads. Imagine the previous books and possible future books that are set in the MacLaren castle and how often that can get mixed up. Castle head woman switches back and forth between two different ladies, the lairds brother changes, husbands change it’s quite difficult to stay in story even when you enjoy the story when things are mixing up every book.

Wow! I love this series, and the stories just keep getting better with each new tale!
Brianna, a corporate negotiator, finds herself in the twenty-first century one minute and in the fifteenth the next. As always with the MacClaran curse, she is the spitting image of a male MacClaran’s deceased wife. This time it was Robert the bard’s wife. He had been sent to Lord Weatherby’s manor to negotiate for assistance with the Stuart clan’s famine crisis. Of course the attraction between Brianna and Robert is instant and strong. During her stay at the manor, a hostage situation occurs requiring her to employ her specific skills. This story is full of emotion with vivid and varied characters. Brianna is a strong woman struggling with confidence deflating demons. Robert is a hunk with a harp. Lord Weatherby thinks a little too highly of himself, but thankfully the valiant Baldric is quite capable of managing him. Kellan is a flawed hero; Malcolm a despicable oaf; and Molly the light of hope. The line between good and bad blurs as we see what actions can be brought on by desperation. Not only is this an endearing love story that instantly captures your attention, but it is also a window into the hardships of the past.

Continuity errors Galore!

This isn't just about this book, but the entire series. The series itself is very fun, although the concept of why the women traveled thru time has changed from the beginning books explanation to a different reason later in the series. What makes it hard to read are the continuity errors from one book to the next. Twin babies from books 1-3 are named one thing, but change names in book 4, then it's like they never existed after that. The Headwoman who manages the kitchens starts off as Margaret, who has a slightly addled helper named Dolores. By book 4, Margaret is no longer mentioned & Dolores is the Headwoman and Margaret seems to never have existed. Sisters Delilah (Folklorist) and Bethany (military) travel back in books 6 & 7, and Helene (geologist) - no relation to the sisters, in book 8. By book 9, Delilah no longer exists, Bethany and Helene are somehow now sisters & are now law enforcement. If you can get past these errors then the series is worth the read. There are other smaller errors like swapping hair color/eye color that are easier to skim over.

Brianna was a PD hostage negotiator until a situation became tragic and she left for the corporate world. Still in therapy to overcome her PTSD, her and her boyfriend take a trip to Scotland for some R&R. Brianna walks in on Ben and a housekeeper and ends their relationship. She's out walking off her anger, when she ends up at Weatherby Manor and finds herself thrown back in time to 15th century Scotland. There her negotiation skills are needed to resolve a situation between the English Lord Weatherby and refugees that were displaced because of greedy English lords. With the help of Robert MacClaran, they work towards a solution and find themselves falling for each other. The book is well paced, has some twists, and steam. I would really like to see poor Baldric get his HEA for putting up with Lord Weatherby. Solid Read

A new and better life in the past.
The last four years of Brianna’s life haven’t been the best but she’s getting better. She lost her job as a hostage negotiator when an assignment went bad and she had nightmares. Now she has a new job using her talents negotiating deal for businesses but still has to see a therapist. When she and her boy friend got to Scotland on vacation, she catches him in bed with a young woman on their first day there. Walking away into the woods she encounters fog, gets lost, and is found by a man in clothes and armor from the fifteenth century. Robert tells her she has gone back in time. The next few days she thinks she’s living in one of her nightmares or dreams. What will she doe when she realizes she really did go back in time? Highlander Returned. Well this historical romance novel is definitely an original love story for me. The writer told me a story of a young woman whose battling some issues in her life. This young lady goes by the name of Brianna. Brianna, who may appear tough on the outside, but on the inside she is so unsure of herself.
From the start the romance blooms between Robert and Brianna. As their love grows the writer shares the story with her readers. I for one was swooning over the flirtatious Robert and how he made it his mission to win Brianna’s heart. The story has a good plot, however the drama was somewhat light. The book still provided entertainment for me.
Definitely the book was a page turner. I liked reading all the characters, each had whimsical ways about themselves. I enjoyed reading this book. Until next time my fellow readers... read on.

Chicago corporate negotiator Brianna Kendall has suffered a trauma four years ago and therapy is helping but, the nightmares still haunts her. Brianna boyfriend has been supportive until she catches him cheating is thrown back in time to medieval Scotland. What a story when Bard Robert MacClaren arrives to negotiate for assistance for the Stuart clan’s famine crisis. He see Brianna looks exactly like his dead wife and love. Brianna’s skills as a negotiator definitely come in handy dealing with Lord Weatherby. This captivating book is an emotional rollercoaster for Brianna and Robert and filled with mystery and intrigue. This story grabs your attention and never lets go!!! I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent book.

Brianna goes on a trip her boyfriend cheats and she walks into a fog. The real story is better I am trying to keep it short. She is back in time and Robert tells Lord Weatherby who is a bit of a tool that Brianna is the reincarnation of his dead wife. The sparks do fly between Robert and Brianna. Brianna is trying to use her negotiation skills to avoid conflict. Even when at war they are drawn to each other. This is a great addition to the series and the imagery is wonderful. I love time travel if it is done right and this is done right. The characters were wonderful and developed, the story flowed and was written well. This is just an all around great book.

Great story!

Brianna went to Scotland to appease her boyfriend. Their first night there, he wanted to go to the bar and she went out for a walk. When she came in their room, his pants were down to his ankles and a young, very young girl was naked in the bed. Brianna couldn’t believe it, but she held her own. He tried to say it was a mistake but she said it was over for sure. She headed outside again for a walk. Suddenly things looked different. The path was different, no castle in sight. Then a burly shadow appeared and asked her why she was out so late. He said that he would take her to the castle she asked about. But to her amazement, things were from the fifteenth century. Time travel…. You need to read. Great story.

This series is still on of my favorite time travel historical romance series. Another 21st century woman is pulled into 15th century Scotland by the MacClaren curse. This time it is Brianna, a professional negotiator and Robert, the MacClaren bard who are affected by the curse. This is a particularly tense time in history between England and the Scots and Brianna happens to arrive not far from an English Lords manor. This is a great story with wonderful characters. It is well written and as usual, once I started I didn't want to put it down. I always look forward to Rebecca Preston's stories.

I really liked this story and as a rule I like this authors characters and story lines. I particularly like the fact that the women who come from the future don't turn into helpless idiots when they realize they are not in the same timezone. The skills they have come in handy in their new lives. I knocked off a star for this one because I felt that the main character spent too much time between nightmares and denying she was there. All reasonable but there were times when I felt that the story focused more on her dreams and nightmares than what the story was about. Still she had a trauma in her past and she does learn to deal with it and helps everyone out.

How do you run away when your man is found with another and end up in a fog, Leading you back in time and resembling a dead wife of a Highland? Beats me! This is another present day woman sucked in time to help the past and try not to off set the future. COMPLICATED!!! it works. She joins forces with the other future women to unite. Being a negotiator comes in handy as they race against time and Villains to make the future bright! Fight like you are trained and win the Highland's stubborn heart! gotta love those Kilts

The ninth book in the Highlander In Time series a well written story with a very good storyline that kept me turning pages. Brianna catches her boyfriend cheating while they are in Scotland so she runs, but ends up at Weatherby Manor, hundreds of years in the past and amid a tumultuous time, she meets Robert MacClaren. There is suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, time travel, and romance. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Love this series. Another American finds herself transported back to Medieval Scotland, where she puts her skills from the 21st century to work. There is the usual romance although it was not centre stage in this book. Loved all the twists and turns. Couldn’t put it down until I had finished it, another day’s work lost.

Another good book in this series. Although mentioning people and events from previous books this can easily be read as a standalone story.
Brianna is sent back in time to medieval Scotland where she ends up having to use her skills as a hostage negotiator to prevent a war between the English Lord and the local Scottish clan.

I have enjoyed each of the books in this series.

Good story as always with RP

Wish negotiations would always end happily. Only thing missing is knowing there is a happy ending for Baldric. Sure he isn't a swoon worthy Highlander, but I'd like to hear the rest of his story. Feeling blood thirsty, I was grateful for Malcom's ending. I love it when the good guys win!

Great historical romance

I have enjoyed this book. When Brittina started her adventure I wondered where she would fit into the story, I was hoping her and Robert would get married but I guess that will be mentioned later. I have never lived in Chicago, but live in San Francisco and Los Angeles county for the first years of my life.
