Firstly, allow me to clarify that I am basing this review on the fact that I have worked with the Russian language for over a decade as either a student, a tutor, or a translator. I still work as a tutor and translator too.

This title is excellent at making the Russian language (which is hard, even native Russians have problems with all their cases, spelling changes, and nuisances of Russian grammar) comprehensible. The author, a Russian, understands these issues with learning Russian and breaks everything down into bite-size bits that make remembering the rules and such easy. She does all that without using language that only a highly degreed linguist would understand. Instead, she uses basic, simple phraseology to enhance a learner's understanding the FIRST time they see it.

If your goal is fluency or something close to that, then I highly recommend this title. If you're just wanting to learn some basics for a quick trip, I still recommend this title. All in all, if you're studying Russian then this book should be on your bookshelf. If fact, you might want to get two copies so you'll have a backup if it's ever needed.
