All Poppy wanted was a relaxing trip to the cute mountain town of High Ridge. She didn't plan on getting stranded with no one to call for help. What's a shy, curvy girl to do?
Asa is known as the town's Beast. Large and foreboding, women run in fear and revulsion. But when this mountain man happens upon a curvy damsel in distress, could she be the one woman to accept him for who he is?
Content Two virgins stranded in a cabin...Things are heating up on the mountain when a curvy girl meets this beastly lumberjack in a steamy story of insta-love!
Hallie prefers steamy stories where the curvy girl finds love with a filthy-talking hero. And when she ran out of reading material, she decided to write her own stories. If you want a quick, hot read, she's your girl!
This was a quick and sexy read with a curvy damsel in distress and a dirty-talking mountain man who rescues her. It was sometimes cute and sometimes steamy and a good filler in between my other reads.
Asa was nicknamed Beast, but not sure why the town feared and loathed him, because the way the author describes him, he’s just big and tall and sexy AF. Poppy was the perfect person to make him feel worthy and wanted. And he was the perfect one to make her feel beautiful and raise her self esteem.
Short and sweet and hot!
This was my first read by this author and I’ll definitely read more.
Sweet story about a curvy young woman, stranded, and rescued by the beast of a mountain man. Well written and a quick satisfying story with a happily ever after.
A short instalove story that began when the h's car broke down in the middle of nowhere. As the h panicked since no one she knew could help her, our H saved the day. And seized her heart along the way. But the thing was both had their own insecurities and demon to face. Could instalove really saved the day?! Of course, it would. Silly me :)
The story was short with full-on steams the whole ride. I liked how simple the story was; simple and straightforward with not much complication. And yet, Hallie gave us quite a plot with some insecurities and demons both characters faced, which both dealt together as a couple. One downside though, the H kept referring to the h as "mate". He saw himself as a bear or gruffly beast that needed a mate. Nothing wrong actually with the beastly thing; it's just since I read lots of shifter romance, I automatically associate the word mate in romance with the shifter. So, yeah, I guessed for me personally, it was rather weird.
Dual virgin No condoms OTT instalove Dual PoV, 1st person No cheating, No OW/OM, No exes No drama/angst Safe read, HEA, Epilogue Overall score: 3.5 safe read stars
Well, little on story, big on sex. Which is good. Curvy heroine. Good. Less than 1 hour reading time, great. Insta love, insta sex, OTT alpha… to be expected. Virgin hero… so so. He thinks about being a virgin and paying attention to all her body reactions so he knows what to do. But for a guy who has never touched a female in a sexual way he is very early and descriptive with his dirty talk. She kissed him once and he is grabbing her boobs and saying all the thinks he is going to do. I mean… you lost your shy awkwardness pretty darn fast their Asa.
Virgin rating: Innocence of virgin hero: 3/5 Innocence in losing it: 4/5 Build up to losing it: 1/5 Hotness of losing it: 3/5 Busted touching himself: no
My favorite part of this cute little novella is Asa is physically protecting her while Poppy is mentally protecting her. Through the first part of the story, Poppy is more reserved but when "mean girls" try to make Asa feel bad about himself she becomes bold and stands up for him. From the very beginning, Asa feels this need to protect Poppy - whether it be from being stranded on the side of the road when her car breaks down or blocking her from view when they are fooling around in his office and his friend comes in.
°Each other's first and only °Switching POVs °Insta love/lust °Sweet likeable MCs °Free of OW/OM drama °No separation °No cheating °No push/pull °No intimate scenes with OP °Epilogue: 1 year and 4 years later
Super short and very insta-love. I found it hard to believe that both Asa and Poppy were virgins...oh, well. I liked when Asa called Poppy his "mate"...so bearish!
I knew this was going to be insta love since the thing was so short, but it really felt like we didn't get enough of anything for this to be memorable.
“Kept by the Beast” by Hallie Bennett was a #moodread to be sure. I was looking forward to something sweet. A palate cleanser after having gone too deep in my feelings in the darker realm of fantasy. I wanted a pick-me-up and the promised story of a heart-of-gold mountain man and his curvy lover seemed like the exact remedy I needed.
I was right.
We follow Poppy on her ill-fated venture to the mountain town called High Ridge, where her car breaks down and she’s literally, and figuratively picked up by our mountain man, Asa. We learn about Poppy’s struggle with her own sense of self-value and Asa’s insecurities about his town-wide earned nickname, ‘the Beast’. When they fall together, it’s a truly sweet (and steamy) union.
I thoroughly enjoyed “Kept by the Beast”. I thought it was a charming story with just enough development to make an insta-love seem more practical. I thought the two were sweet together – it didn’t hurt that they were both incredibly likable characters in their own right. I found myself rooting for them, hoping that their weekend of car trouble could turn into a forever.
If I was rating this novelette on my feelings on the storyline alone, it would get five stars! Unfortunately, there were some parts that I, didn’t personally enjoy.
I didn’t mind that both characters were virgins, though, I took issue with Asa talking like he was a seasoned fluffer on a porn set. It suspended reality just a bit too much for me to believe. If he had stumbled over some of the more lewd words, I would have loved him all the more. Playing pretend at experience he didn’t have would have made it all the more wholesome and endearing.
Some of the dialogue, in general, failed the, “does it sound okay when said out loud?” test. I found myself fixating on certain lines, trying to imagine a world in which people spoke that way. I didn’t find that place.
All in all, I do think this is a cute read and would certainly recommend it to anyone who is keen for some smutty, wholesome insta-love with a beautiful happy ending.
“Kept by the Beast” gets a solid four stars from me!
Cliche, cringing, nothing to it, and the first time I've been disgusted by the sex scene. Not much to this. While I usually don't expect a lot from HEA's like curvy girl meets Mountain man, just a quick, sweet, hopefully hot-ish read, this failed to even meet those basic requirements.
It's very lacking on any story, with a silly teen bully theme, in which it's the hero who has been and still is being bullied by the town's 'mean girls'. Very silly and unbelievable. The heroine's 'poor, fat, lonely, zero friends,, woe me' got old real fast. As did her easily overwrought emotional state, bursting into tears for no reason.
Like when her car breaks down, even though she could easily phone for a tow, and being rescued by a sexy mountain man. Yes, apparently that was reason to cry and be emotionally overwrought the next morning. It was bad.
The writing wasn't good, it jerked and jumped from place to place and just didn't make for appealing or interesting reading. Made it to the first sex scene but the dirty talk was cringing. It also seemed dropped in, not fitting, too crude, especially for a supposedly virgin hero.
As was the supposed virgin heroine's blatant fingering herself to orgasm in front of him, a still practical stranger she has spent maybe an hour with, max. Their actions completely contradicted the characters.
It's also the first time I've ever been disgusted by reading a sex scene. The image the writing portrayed was of him using his mouth to mop up a flood of her cum, after she gives herself so many orgasms. It wasn't pleasant reading.
The amount of orgasms, five, she gives herself using her hand, all in a twenty minute drive, wasn't believable. Neither is her being able to have more with him, without being too sensitive, or too tired, or her muscles too cramped etc from all the one's she's already had. Not good. Not a very good story or writing. 1 star.
Kept by the Beast by Hallie Bennett If you are looking for a fast paced, insta-love Novella with WIDE open door spice look no further! There some things that stick me as odd…MMC kept referring to her as his mate. I usually associated ‘mate’ with paranormal/fantasy reads. But that is just me personally.
Curved FMC is standard on the side of the road when a burly lumberjack comes to the rescue.
insta-love Curvy FMC Dual POV Dual Virgins
Side note: Keep mind that this is not the most relalostic plot but that is not the point. This is catering to very specific tropes. If you don’t like it, that’s fine! It is for someone else. DON’T YUCK SOMEONE ELSE’S YUM! Be respectful in your reviews and authors.
This was such a cute, sexy story! For being a novella, I didn't feel like it was too short. I would have loved more time with Asa and Poppy because they were an adorable couple. She gets stranded on the side of the road and he stops to help. He hasn't had any attention from women in his small town, he is seen as a beast for his size. Poppy is basically alone in the world, shy and anxious about her curves and her social awkwardness. They are literally perfect for each other and I cheered when they both took a chance on love. I will definitely be following Hallie Bennett; I can't wait to see what she dreams up next!
It was a typical instalove, but I liked the characters. We got to see a little bit of Poppy's background; she seemed really relatable and while she was shy and insecure, she wasn't disgustingly so. I didn't get why Asa was thought of as a beast; I would have liked more interaction showing it rather than telling me and one group of mean girls in a diner.
But it was pretty good until they kissed. Then it got over the top ridiculous and the dialogue got super cheesy. Asa kept calling her mate, but he's not a shifter, so having a human repeatedly calling his girl that was annoying. It held promise, but the cheese was a lot.
I'll admit that I wasn't sure about this book at first, but I loved it!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 stars!
This short story features two virgins forced together by unfortunate circumstances. Our Hero is a mountain man 🥵 and our heroine is a curvy, plus size book editor.
I love that they didn't fumble when it came to the smut scenes. They knew what they wanted, and they took it.
Steam level: 🌶🌶🌶
I also absolutely loved the sort of Beauty and the Beast theme the author had going!!
And man, I wish we could have gotten a much more in depth look into the first epilogue because that scene would have been HOT!!
I wanted to like this cute story, and had read the good reviews prior to reading, even tho it was a free promotional book. I was really enjoying, had great promise and likable characters. Enjoyed it till their drive home from the diner. Then it was so, well crude, the way it was written. Could’ve been written sexy, but instead made me sad I’d wasted my time on something I thought would’ve (and certainly could’ve been) a really sweet romantic hot steamy story. But it was like suddenly written by a 12 year old boy at this part of the story and the ridiculousness of these virgins having this immediate interaction turned me off instead. Fail.
First Off, where do I find a man like the one on the cover?? Are they only in the mountains??? don't make me sell my house and everything I own and move my3 kids and my dog to the mountains if its not a sure thing!!!! The cover was what caught my eye. And I'm so glad because I have been introduced to a new to me author and I'm so excited! This was steamy and sweet and short. But I felt like I could feel the chemistry between them & I just love the double virgin thing. and Asa was just..Idk, amazing!
Now I'm off to read all the other books this author has available for me to devour... Thank you kindle unlimited.
Kept by the Beast is a sweet double v-card novella! Asa and Poppy are each somewhat apart from others in their own worlds. Kind and caring Poppy has such a big heart and is so down on herself, not wanting to burden others. Asa has forged his own path despite years of cruel bullying over is size. Their meet cute is adorable, and I loved how they found themselves in each other. The audiobook is definitely the way to go with this story, as the narrators are clear and easy to listen to. They really bring the story to life with the audio dimension element. Such a heartwarming and sweet tale. Loved it!
Asa has been branded with the moniker of "Beast" since school when the mean girl gave it to him. He's a big guy but a softy at heart. Poppy was visiting his hometown for the day and when leaving her car broke down. She had no friends to call or roadside assistance. Along comes Asa who stops to help her. He instantly fell in love with her and never wanted her to leave. Read how she showed the mean girl and her followers he's not a beast. How their love progressed. It's such a good book. Written by Cindy :)
My quickie review: I had a hankering for something mountain man’ish and lo and behold, I came across this beauty. It’s a new to me author, but I am definitely excited to read more of her books. Especially this series. If you are a fan of insta-love, curvy heroines and big, burly heros, get this spicy, quick read. You will absolutely fall for both Asa and Poppy. They are the ultimate Grumpy and Sunshine you never knew you needed. Kept by the Beast is the perfect read when you need to fill an hour or so. 5 Stars!
Short and steamy. A lovely, quick story. I was wary because I often find the plus sized h and/or virgin storylines can get cringey or make my eyes roll but this one was decent. Though Asa gave a bit of whiplash moving between the "I'm a virgin and I've never done this before" and "Let me tell you all the kinky things I'm going to do to you" before they'd had their second kiss....but I suppose there are some other MMCs that are just as OTT.
Regardless, it was a sweet, steamy and quick break from reality.
It was okay. I liked that it was mentioned that they plant trees for the ones they're cutting and I appreciate that it wasn't mentioned what food they eat because, even though I don't base my ratings on characters' diet (if they don't say something offending), it bothers me a little when it's overemphasized how they eat bacon and other meat. So, I'm really glad it wasn't the case here. So because of the things above and double virgins it's 4 instead of 3 stars.
1.75⭐ This was the intantest insta-lust I've ever read. For a minute I thought he might be a shifter. Immediately the dude's talking about her being his mate and they'd barely said two words to each other. And wow did she just glom onto his possessive, caveman shit. Ugh.
And then there's two epilogues that pretty much do nothing but show that they have one kid and he's going to fill her with his seed and plant another one. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Two semi recluses meet when Poppys car breaks down. As a known as " the Beast of High Ridge" stops to help stranded Poppy when her car breaks down. They both are very unsure of how to respond to one another as someone interested in the other, or just a teeny bit socially awkward, but they manage to put forth the efforts to overcome this!!! Yay !!!! Great fun quick read!
A breakdown on the side of a country road can be quite distressing. But Poppy was saved by her perfect match. Instantly attracted to each other but playing it cool, she and Asa forged an unbreakable bond. It's hot times in the cool mountain air as the new lovers experience so many delicious firsts together. The editing could have been better.
I love this 🥺 sweet, cute, and to the point. It’s nice reading a book where the h and H don’t have supermodel type bodies. They’re normal people, with normal insecurities. I loved relating to Poppy with her lack of social circles and I loved Asa’s need to make her his world. Can’t wait to read more short stories from this author!
