Caleb Mitchell, Deke Conner, and Kara McIntire return in the latest novel in the star-spanning Birthright series. Travelling back from their mission to the Northwest Passage, having closed off that corridor into our part of space to alien invasion, Cal Mitchell and his friends are now faced by a threat closer to home. When the former DSI commando Robert Chang, known as Cutter, had deceived them into helping him find the legendary Northwest Passage, he'd used all of his resources for his set-up - including replacing a few key military officers with genetically duplicated copies made in his lab and under his control. Cutter is gone, but his organization remains...and so do the replacements.
Now, someone Cutter left behind is using those replacements in an attempt to reignite the war between the human Commonwealth and the Tahni Empire. Tahni insurgents have launched terrorist strikes against the Commonwealth military, initiating a cycle of reprisal and escalation, spurred on by the duplicates in the military. When Cal, Deke, and Kara bring together what remains of their old Glory Boy commando group in an effort to investigate, they're attacked by both sides. It will take all their skill to overcome the conspiracy and expose the ones behind it. And to convince the Tahni that the enemy of their enemy is not necessarily their friend...

I didn't expect the series to end as soon as it did. The series did not go out with a whimper. Likable charters, storyline and plots. Old friend lost or actually already had been lost. Bad guy has a chance to think about his deeds. Old friend returns and puts his foot down. Hmmm does there seem to be an opening for another eventually.
Great read. I have been reading all the related books and I really like the way the stories have merged in this series. The only thing that I find off-putting is the copy and paste from prior books that could have been summarized to better effect. The author has done this with other series as well. I understand the intent but it still seems like cheating.
Conspiratorial, intrigue, some twists and turns, and action. In a game of finding the puppet master, who’s pulling the strings, in this deadly game of cat and mouse. Plenty going on to keep you occupied and entertained, in the final episode of Birthright.
I very much enjoyed this series. Partlow has a great imagination and Smith way of writing. The books are well worth the price and time to read them. David Schlosser
Enjoyed the story, the wrapping up of the various threads. Thought the duplicates angle was good, liked the way the majority of it played out . Enough action and hooks, oh really's to keep the story interesting and keep me interested.
"Enemy of my Enemy" is an excellent ending to an excellent series. It will be interesting to see how this ending will affect the ending of the parent, "Drop Trooper". It is well worth reading, especially if you have been reading the rest of the series.
Great Third Volume of Exploration/Military Space Opera
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: VOLUME & SERIES I couldn't put this series down and ended up reading through the three volumes in a long weekend. It is just that good a story. I love cross genre books, and this long tale includes interstellar exploration, military space opera, and science-based SF in a wonderful combination. The final conclusion is hopefully optimistic and upbeat. (I am also partial to upbeat conclusions). Just great, enjoyable reading that did not leave the readers worried about future events.
The Birthright trilogy is terrific. The characters are fully fleshed out and the action exciting. I would definitely recommend it and sincerely hope the we haven't seen the last of Cal , his family and the rest of the "Glory Boys"!
