We can't necessarily "fix" the chaos around us- near and far - but we can choose our mindset. Facing a challenge with a positive attitude with hope, is a choice. What the World Needs Now provides options for how to be a moral and uplifting leader in the midst of the digital and social media age, contempt for oposing opinions and a time of fear and anxiety.
Character is not held in the high esteem it once was, passing lessons and examples down from one generation to another. What are the components of character and how to integrate that believe and the teachings at home, at school, through higher education, through religious communities?
Dr. Clay Stauffer is senior pastor at Woodmont Christian Church, Professor of Moral Leadership at Vanderbilt University and a board member of Belmont University in Nashville. He is a highly respected leader in Tennessee to whom many government leaders and celebrities look toward for tackling complicated issues in a moral way. He is well-known for bringing thought-leaders of various perspectives and faiths together on a stage with him to have well-rounded and intense discussions.
Topics that are tackled in 30 bite-size chapters in a 110 page book include: Emotional intelligence, culture, mindset, avoiding contept, humility peace, nurturing relationships, civility, leadership, money, etc.
The Covenant School shooting in Nashville in 2023 changed the community forever. Clay was the leading voice that helped many of us grapple with the horror, anger and feelings of helplessness for the days, months and years since. The family members of the little girl, Evelyn, who was murdered at the school, are members of his church. He also is pastor to many of the families of children in the school that day that witnessed the monstrosities. Somehow he has been a beacon of light to help the enitre community find a moral way to exist and move on to thrive with what happened.
The book opens with words about that profoundly devastating day. And, from there the book focuses not on counting the problems, but digging into what the solutions could look like for each of us taking a role.
