Jake is invited to go to Remedial Space Car Driving School. He needs it as he’s such a terrible driver. He’d failed his licence thirty times. His parents insist it’s his only chance. Gradlock is the best, no one had ever failed from his driving school. So his parents pack him off to the moon base where the driving school is. It’s the first time he’s away from Earth without his family. It would only be for a week.
Jake met Rory from Mars. They were both alone and nervous. Henry another boy sounded robotic, he said he was from Jupiter. Their first test was in space simulators. Henry drove well and Jake wondered why he was at Remedial Driving School. Jake decides to investigate. What he finds out leads him into big trouble. With his new friends Skye, Milly and Rory they end up saving the universe from the evil Gradlock.
This is the first of a six book series. Candice writes for children to enjoy great space adventures with page-turning action.
Good little chapter book for reluctant boy readers. The story gets moving quickly and stays at a pace quick enough to hold the interest of those who are inclined to be put off anything slower. It's an easy read. Great spacing between the lines, the pages are that slightly yellow colour which aids readers with dyslexia, little illustrations along the bottom (which take up room and mean that the pages are getting turned more quickly - reluctant readers feel they are getting somewhere), minimal adult supervision in the story, good cover etc. Should be popular with boys about age 8.
Fast paced story ideal for younger readers - involves driving, racing, space and solving a mystery with a twist at the end. Would probably particularly appeal to boys 7-9 years
