Strays is the first book in the Werewolf Academy series and is a spin-off from the Silver series. As you may know, if you follow my reviews, that last book just about killed me, and was the very thing that set me into this series. This one focuses on Alex and Cassie, Jet's younger twin siblings.

In the Academy, you are not split into years. You are split into Packs but for one year only. Alex and Cassie are usually one of the last to be picked, so it comes as a huge surprise when one of the newcomers picks Alex to be his Second. Usually, the Packs stay divided between Lifers and Termers, but Alex shakes things up by giving Jericho names of both, in the hope of making a strong, all-rounded Pack.

I love Cheree Alsop's worlds. I really do! This one drew me in just as much as Silver did. It was great to see Jaze and the others that bit older. I'm still not keen on Chet, but he does provide a great counterbalance to Dray. With excitement, hormones, hunts, and training, this is a fast-paced book that still managed to have me in tears!

Seriously, this is an amazing start to the series with a new cast of brilliant characters, supported by old characters that I adore. I can't wait to continue and have no hesitation in recommending this book.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

After the Great War between humans and werewolves an academy was built for the children who lost their families and the children whose parents wanted them to learn about their heritage. Alex and his twin sister Cassie are strays as the students with families called them, which meant they were orphans. But unlike the children with families, the twins were blessed with a adopted family of the professors and head master and of course reminded every day of the Brother who was immortalized in a statue at the academy. But this year is different because the strays and the termers are not in separate groups any more, some are combined into a hybrid group of both and it stirs up the students. Plus Alex and Cassie are being hunted. Will they serve? Can the new hybrid group exceed the termers and strays expectations? Read it!

I absolutely loved this book and am excited to read the rest of the series! Cassie is my favorite because she is nothing like her brother and very motherly. I loved the competition scene where they found the unexpected sense and exceeded the head masters expectations. Very interesting.

If you love werewolves, paranormal, and looking for a book like house of night or vampire academy this is it! YA for sure.

I thought this would be more about werewolves and the supernatural. It's more of a contemporary dealing with grief with a mystery thrown in for conflict.

The writing is ok, nothing to write home about. Character development doesn't really happen at, you feel like you're brought in at the end of another story that should be before this one. The vagueness and lack of actual werewolf elements just left me completely disappointed.

Perfect for a middle school to very Young Adult. The main protagonists are 14 years old. I didn’t realize this when I picked up the book so it’s good to know beforehand.

I loved the complexity of the factions in the book. Break it down to race bias, no not really, gender, no. Social in equality. Yes, some what but, some how it comes out to be a very well written and entertaining lesson about how you treat people and why, and why you should be more tolerant. Great book! Especially for teens!

Strays is book one of the Werewolf Academy series by Cheree Alsop, which is a continuation of the Silver Series universe set a few years later.

Alex and Cassie are Jet's younger twin siblings. After losing their entire family in the werewolf genocide, they now call the Academy home with the other Lifers left orphaned. But each year, the Termers come back and their home is invaded by werewolf kids with families who think the Lifers are nothing but Strays.

But all that changes the year that Jericho, a new Termer Alpha, makes a choice no one ever has. He asks Alex, a Lifer, to be his Second and mixes up the two, until now, very segregated groups. This new pack, chosen for their mix of strengths rather than their family status, becomes one of the strongest in school.

And they have to be when Extremist Hunters start targeting two of their own. Alex and Cassie don't know why the man with the mismatched eyes that killed their parents is so bent on their deaths. But Alex promised his sister that he'd protect her, and he'll do anything to uphold that promise.

Alex is an awesome character because he's so determined. He's not an Alpha like his brother, Jet, but he's determined to live up to the legacy of the hero of the werewolf race. Still going to Jaze for guidance, he wants a stronger pack for his sister. He wants to help werewolves. And he's a little bit reckless in his thirst to make his brother proud.

Jaze, with the help of a few people has built and in running a private academy for all the orphan werewolves as a place to live and for the ones that have families that are trying to protect their children. Jet's siblings, Alex and Cassie are part of the lifers, the term for orphaned children. They live on the campus of the school, while the termers have families and go home on breaks. Alex wants to be like his big brother, even though he's not an alpha. He want to protect everyone and doesn't like backing down from a challenge. This year is different, they could actually belong. There's a new alpha and he chooses Alex as his second.
But Alex and Cassie still have an enemy out there and he found them again. Jaze's Uncle and cousin Drogan are still causing trouble.
I really loved this book and the fact that all the original characters have found a place here is fantastic. I had one problem with the story, and maybe it's just me, but how do all these werewolves keep losing Drogan, in their own forest? And hos does Drogan keep sneaking up on all these werewolves. Other that that, I loved the story and fiery little Alex is so much like Jet, it makes my heart hurt.

I got this book from a giveaway, and it's one of the coolest books I have ever read. If you love Hogwarts, and Vampire Academy, or basically anything that has got to do with supernatural people studying, this is the book for you. Basically, this book is about a werewolf academy made of Lifers and Termers. Lifers are those that were adopted into the academy, and Termers are those who come only for the term. Anyway, I love all the main characters (and there ARE ALOT.) Alex, his sister Cassie, Kalia, Jericho. OH OH I LOVE JERICHO, HE IS SO SO SO CUTE. AND ALEX TOO HEHE. And this book will make you cry, like it did with me. I cried super badly sia. Because of Alex and Cassie's past :( I hardly hated anyone in this book, well, except maybe the Extremists. HAHA. I mean, dude they were tryna kill the werewolves! But yeah. READ READ READ!

Enjoyable to Read

This is a nice story of young teenagers trying to find their place in the world. This is greatly complicated because they are orphans and werewolves. The story’s main focus is Alex as he transitions from being at the back of the pack to being a Second and actually leading all of the Alphas.

The story is lightweight and a little disjointed in places. In spite of these minor issues, it was enjoyable to read.

Excellent

Chree Alsop is an excellent author. The Silver Series she did was action filled. I have only read the first book so far, but it has proven to be just as exciting as I thought it would be.
I can't wait to start the next book in this series. So I must go. On to book 2. Get the book. You will love it.
Happy reading.

YA Very well written story about werewolves private school. The school is for the protection of werewolves because hunters have been trying to eradicate families. The main characters are a set of twins who watched their parents die. and how they relate to other wolves who still have their families. There are 7 books in the series and they are just perfect for about age 12 to adult.

I loved these. I read 1-4 on Saturday. I would have given them 5 starts except for all of the typos and editing mistakes. This is one of the best indie st0ries I have read in a while. I was entranced. However, my one complaint with authors like this is PLEASE have people edit your books.

Easy, fast paced read.

This is a decent story for entertainment. More for the teens but as an older person it was still a good storyline that wasn't boring.

Alex and Cassie are a set of 14 year-old twins that are permanent residents at a Werewolf Academy. Because of this they are called Strays. The people who only come during terms and have homes are called Termers. Outside of having a hierarchy where Alphas are in charge it's also Strays against Termers.

Alex and Cassie are Grey Wolves, which means they are not alphas no matter how much Alex wishes otherwise. That is until Jericho, an Alpha Termer started this year and had chosen Alex as his second.

Alex who thinks that you should have both brain and brawn when making a pack. With a ragtag group of werewolves they set out to make changes. Along the way we find out that the twins had a war-hero named Jet as an older brother. There parents were murdered in front of them and they have a spy in the school.

With Alex fighting anger issues, heart murmers and trying to protect his sister he has a lot on his plate. From befriending a girl who swears shes not a werewolf, Extermists out to make werewolves extinct and trying to help make his pact the best it can be this is actually a very well- written book.

I will admit that parts were a little cliche but it still had a fresh take on it that made the story enjoyable. We find out more about the school and werewolves in general. Somethings don't get answered but I believe it's set up that way for the next book.

I will admit that this is actually an enjoyable read and that I will look for the rest of the series and more books by Cheree Alsop.

New Pack

At the Werewolf Academy the orphans (strays when being nasty) were called lifers and the students who came during term tine were called termers. They did not usually mix. This year turned out differently, when the new termer alpha chose Alex, a lifer, as his second. The pack ended up a great mixture of lifers and termers, chosen with regards to their strengths. Alex and his twin sister, Cassie, were at the academy because they were made orphans when a man named Drogan killed their parents in front of them. He would have killed them also if their brother, Jet, had not saved them. Ultimately Jet had been killed by the same man and his followers, who hated werewolves and wanted them all dead. Six years on and Drogan is still trying to finish the job he started and has again been trying to kill Alex and Cassie. They have no idea why it is so important to him to kill them. The packs within the school gave been organizing their training to act as one large pack of about 150 wolves, to protect the academy and everyone in it.

After the attempted genocide of the werewolves, Jaze and his pack built an Academy in a sheltered, remote forest. The plan. Gather the youngsters orphaned by the attack, the strays, and keep them safe while inviting other students who still live with their families to come for school sessions and training.

Fourteen-year-old Alex and Cassie, Jet’s twin siblings, are Strays whose home is the academy. A new school semester is starting. Though the extreme werewolf hunters have been subdued for several years, they are reviving their plan to wipe out the werewolves again. And it seems as though Cassie and Alex are primary targets. Alex’s instinct to protect at all costs is well developed in the story as is the bonding of the new packs.

A quick and exciting read especially for teens and young adults. I must admit, though I enjoy YA books, I do not find food fights appealing. The camaraderie established through the bonding experience for the young werewolves made the flinging of edibles acceptable.

This is one of my favorite book series I have ever read!!

I definitely recommend this for anyone who love werewolves and coming of age story’s. It had me in every emotion. I laughed out loud for angry, and cried… a lot. The main character has gone through so much. The author did a really great job of making him grow with in the book. If your looking for romance werewolf story’s then this is not it. There’s only a few kisses but that’s it . There is some mild graphic gore scenes so I would say it good for 14+ depending on how mature you are. There is also a prequel series about one of the characters who are close to the main character. I read the first book Silver but didn’t like it so I ended up not reading it. You DO NOT have to read the Silver series first it doesn’t link with Werewolf Academy. I have a review in that as well. I am so happy I found this book I read it on KU (kindle unlimited). And you can by the box set on Amazon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was given this as a free book, or I never would have read it. I don't read vampire and werewolf novels... I figured this would be the usual kids-at-a-school with a twist and a bunch of teenage angst. I'd scan a little bit and move on.

Not at all. The kids are at a boarding school, there is a little deal-with-the-bully, but the action focuses rather on what it's like to have a pack, how a group is stronger when everyone is NOT the same, so that that you have different strengths and abilities, and the plot involves working together to fight an enemy.

This book would really appeal to boys. While not all the characters are male, most are and the story is told from a male student's point of view. I was surprised to find myself enjoying the read!

It’s like Harry Potter for werewolves. An orphaned young werewolf lives with his sister at the academy where the headmaster acts as a father figure. When threats emerge, the fourteen-year-old boy won’t leave things to the adults but instead bands the students together and brings the fight to the enemy.
There’s just a hint of romance and lots of action and social interplay.
Typos: as previously noted, there’s a lot of incorrect word and punctuation usage. I won’t list the errors, but a couple of humorous ones were abated for bated and fainted for feinted. At least use a grammar checker: it’s free.

Great Reading

This was an awesome book that was good reading at any age. It's geared more for the younger set with no sex or profanity. But I'm 70 years young and I enjoyed reading "Strays" very much. I love reading paranormal books and I've enjoyed all of the "academy" books I've read so far. "Strays" was exceptionally good reading with characters that pulled you in so you didn't want to put them down. If you're looking to read a straight up good book without the crutch of sex to pull the reader in this just might be the book for you. Now I'm off to read the second book of the series. Thank you Cherree Alsop for a book that is just plain good reading!

This novel had sooo many characters it was hard to keep track, and there was an over-emphasis on the role of the adults in the story to make me feel like the stakes for the young protagonist were ever real. There was a moment in the story () where it could've all ended, but for some reason, the protagonist doesn't 'take the (metaphorical) shot' and so the story continues. I liked the world of this story, but the writing kept me at arm's length, the plot was at times non-sensical, and the characters mostly cardboard. There was also a startling lack of strong female characters.

Following in the vein of the series before this one, Jaze and his pack mission hasn't changed. The pack have however added to that, those that survived the genocide have all become teachers at a special sanctuary/ school. While I still miss the characters Jet and Taye, and Jaze's mom Mindi, the story line has continued smoothly. The newest addition to the pack made me smile, mostly from Alex's character development. He's becoming more and more like Jet. Regardless of what happens in Jaze's life he can't seem to help collecting " strays". Nikki has stepped into Mindi's shoes and become the pack mom.
