Elon Vidal’s “Eclipse” is a very promising book, the first in his new fantasy series “Dawnbringer”. The story follows Dawn (FMC), a Halfling, with dual human and Fae heritage, who would rather have an uneventful life, surrounded by the plants she loves. But fate has other plans, involving a rare eclipse and Dawn’s recurring light-harnessing dream, which puts her in the radar not only of the Council of the Enlightened but the Gods themselves, and in mortal danger.
Elon Vidal has written a captivating story, that despite its shortness (barely over 60 pages), offers an interesting and fully satisfactory plot , rich in emotions and nuances. A perfect introduction to the series.
Usually if it is a short “prelude” type book I don’t even download it. That is point one of the author. Point two was that I didn’t want to put it down after I started. Point 3 was I wasn’t even annoyed where it ended I just wanted to know more. Point 4 was he even got me to look at book 2. Point 5 was that I downloaded book 2. It’s an intriguing plot line and I’m interested to see where it goes. So much so that I ignored my rules and typical dismissal of fee prelude books; especially those that aren’t labeled as such.
It's disappointing: it doesn't quite live up to the blurb as it ends before the Council or the gods actually make any pronouncements. I don't see why some authors chose to release broken stories. There seems to be some belief that it encourages readers to buy more. For me, it is just the opposite. It leads me to question whether the author is capable of writing a complete story. And that is just what I feel about this fragment.
I really enjoyed this prequel teaser. Dawn is s half-ling with no powers aside from a love and affinity for botany(plants and herbs) I say this is a "teaser" instead of prequel because there is really no ending to this. No story within a story. It's literally a teaser, which is fine! Dawn is thrust onto a magical mess and this teaser does what it's supposed to: makes you want to know how Dawn's life turns out and to know more about this world. That's the intention to give you just enough info to intrigue.
This is a quick read that definitely draws you in and when you get to the last page your like dam I want more . Says alot about this short read because now you know you have to get the next part of this story . So go ahead and grab this book , yes it's short but when your done reading this you will be looking for book 2 which comes out in a few weeks. So buy this book , read it , love it , and then review it , reviews help authors way more than you know . So go buy it now lol .
I absolutely loved this book! I loved the characters and the story itself. I was so pulled into this book that i found myself riding along through the characters journey. I went on a wonderful journey and experienced all of the emotions imaginable. I laughed, and i cried, and i felt a number of others as well. I must say that i thoroughly enjoyed it and i did not want it to end. If you like this genre i am positive that you will love this book! 😁
Eclipse is a great introduction to the characters and the storyline. I love the concept and I'm definitely interested in seeing what's to come.
The book could do with some editing and polishing. The formatting was not consistent throughout, and there were quite a few places where there were typos or missing words (ie. sacred instead of scared). A couple of times it was distracting enough that I had to stop and try to figure out what the intention was.
Dawn's story was interesting, but the reader is thrown in the middle of an established world without any background information and there aren't enough pages for it to be expanded on. The dream sequence was confusing and doesn't seem like it goes with the rest of the story, and the problem doesn't actually get resolved. I do plan on reading the next book, but I'm not in any rush.
Eclipse is a great introduction to Dawn & her family. 4.5 stars
I know I shouldn't be so disappointed, but this story just introduced the main characters and then just poofed... quit as soon as the story got interesting. Fortunately, I purchased the second book in the series already, so I can start it now. Catch up with you there!
Great story line but the grammar and errors like missing words takes away from the experience.
When you have a good story you don't want to lose your readers due to bad editing. This story is interesting and I like the details. It doesn't skip around and flows smoothly. I would probably have given it 4 or 5 stars of not for getting frustrated with the errors.
A good opening story to what appears to be an exciting series. The plot involves Dawn a half-ling, half fae and half human. She begins to dream a strange vision and it scares her.
Good short teaser....but doesn't leave one satisfied it needed more beef and sad that it's as the author said"to wet your appetite to buy the full book" but 5 stars for what is here
I enjoyed the light hearted nature of the young characters. How the protagonist wanted to keep her mother and father together, something that most younger people and even adults can relate too. Urban fantasy... I’m very curious to read the next part of the story.
A "teaser" short story into the life of Dawn who is a halfling (half fae and half human). A well-written promising series. My first read by this author. I will be reading more. I recommend this book.
This introduces the series to follow. It's short, introduces the characters & the background to Dawn's mysterious power, one which she herself isn't sure of. The questions she has get us involved as we want to know what is in store for her.
