Shadows and ink stained echoes. Whispers with monsters, dines with villains. Weaving twisted closed-door tales where light dares not linger.

I'm dedicated to bringing you amazing tales pulled from the depths of my wild imagination to take you on a trip you will never forget with a hint of fright.

My own reading interests include dark fantasy, horror, dystopian, romantic subgenres, YA, bizarro, splatterpunk and cozies. And yes, my mind is as eclectic as my moods sometimes!

Though in regards to writing, dark fantasy is my jam—my heart always seem to long for monstrous tales. You may just find both in all my stories!

If you wanna have seven stories about moral grey characters or even villians that got a girl, I recommend that anthology. Seven stories, each one has blurb and triggers. Last one was extremely important for me, cause I’m mood reader and sometimes just not ready for particular topics. Let’s be real, some stories became my favourite and I even want whole book about them. My favourite are A Vow of Fire and Venegeance, Odeath Odette. My least was A dance of shadows and thorns. I wish it was longer, cause I really like beginning.
But still, I had good time reading stories and recommend it

Wow. I was completely swept away by this book. From a little bit silly and almost sweet to dark and downright dangerous, there’s something in this collection for every last one of us who secretly (and not so secretly) wants to see the villain win. This time, their weapons aren’t merely steel and spells. This time it’s a charm offensive our anti-heroes wield to fascinate and enchant their willing prey. This reader admits to becoming part of that cadre of willing prey for more than one of these dashing rogues. I can’t wait to read what the authors come up with next.

What a great collection of short stories!
Romancing the Rogue is an anthology where 7 authors each share a tale where the villain gets the girl. Who doesn’t love the bad boy who obsesses over, protects, falls hard for, the woman in his life?

In Of Thorns and Savage Things, the second story in the Wicked Fae series by Jada McCrary, a wicked fae king with a reputation for cruelty and evil plots, tries bullying the woman he’s fallen for, to love him back. The more time they’re together, the less wicked he seems.
A delicious, dark romance that continues the story of a wicked fae king and a brave human woman. Be sure to read the first story in the series, Of Fae and Wicked Kings, for the most enjoyment.

*I read 3 out of the 7 stories in this collection, as the rest are not clean. For your convenience, I am sharing the official synopsis for each of the stories (where supplied), including the ones I did not read [information extends to comments for now]. The ones I did read I am going through first, and I am numbering each story so you know the order.*

Each of the stories I read is a fairy/folk tale retelling.

Playing the Piper by Jes Drew (#1)

Fairy/folk tale: Pied Piper
Tropes: Fated love, he “falls” first, visions
Writing style: Single POV except for a second in prologue, 1st person, present tense
Character- or plot-driven: Both

Clean level: Quick mouth kiss. A couple instances of tame innuendo. Someone asks someone about a “tryst” (it wasn’t one).

A very original idea. In this retelling, the Piper is a hero rather than a villain. However, the story moves very quickly, which ultimately detracts from its effectiveness. The relationship between the protagonists moves too rapidly to be believable. I would like to see the story expanded into a full-length novel, allowing for more natural pacing and deeper development of the characters and their relationship.

Favorite quotations:
• His eyes are bulging with fascination, just like his cheeks are bulging with sweet cake.
• “I beg your pardon!” “Consider my pardon begged.”

A Dance of Shadows and Thorns by C. N. Noble (#2)
In the kingdom of Valenor, secrets are currency, and betrayal lurks in the shadows.

Lysandra has spent her life surviving her stepmother’s schemes and the sharp-edged world of court politics. But when a chance encounter at a royal ball places her in the path of Prince Dorian—known as the Thorn Prince for his ruthless reputation—her life takes a dangerous turn.

Dorian is hunting a smuggling operation threatening Valenor’s fragile alliances, and all signs point to Lysandra’s family. But when he sets a trap to expose her, he discovers she’s not the villain he expected. Instead, she’s a pawn in a deadly game that could destroy them both.

As treachery tightens its grip, Lysandra uncovers a plot that risks plunging the kingdom into chaos—and herself into a forced marriage with a power-hungry ambassador. Racing against time, Dorian must decide if saving his kingdom is worth risking his heart for the one woman who might bring him to his knees.

For fans of The Cruel Prince and Cinderella, this is a tale of forbidden love, danger, and redemption in a world where trust is scarce and love even scarcer.

Fairy/folk tales: Cinderella and Robin Hood
Trope: Forced proximity
Writing style: Dual POV (alternating chapters), 2nd person, past tense
Character- or plot-driven: Both

Clean level: 1 mouth kiss, 3-sentence description. 2 near-kisses, about 2 paragraphs of description each. 1 hand kiss, zero description.

Sensitive aspect: A symbol is carved into a man’s flesh using a knife (no further detail).

My favorite of the three I read, without question. Though it draws from both source materials, it is in truth wholly original. Its longer length allowed for some more development than the first entry. Particularly compelling is Lysandra’s gift of Soul Sight, which allows her to see into the depths of others, sometimes revealing more than they themselves understand.

“It was her—wild yet sweet.” This seems like a careless, formulaic description. There is nothing wild about Lysandra.

Favorite quotations:
• “Stories,” the captain spat. “Tales to scare children into behaving. Nothing more. Now, get back to work before I become the monster in your nightmares!”
• “He doesn’t dirty his hands because he doesn’t have to. He gives an order, and things happen.” “That’s why they call him the Thorned Prince,” the first mused. “A single misstep, and you find yourself bleeding before you ever realize you’ve been pricked.”
• “I could be wrong, but my instincts tell me she's a venomous snake—a creepy, conniving extortionist with a knack for slithering into places she doesn’t belong.”
• “And attraction … well, it can be a dangerous thing if not tempered by wisdom.”
• She advanced slowly, each measured step like a predator savoring the moment before striking.
• The road darkened, mist slithering from the fields and curling like ghostly fingers around the trees.

Storm Under Siege by Harper Lynn (#6)
Fairy tale: Rumpelstiltskin
Tropes: Chosen one, enemies-to-“lovers”, captured by the enemy, dark protector
Writing style: 1st person, past tense
Character- or plot-driven: Character-driven

Clean level: Squeaky

The prologue sets the stage for the narrative that follows. Anyone reading the story for the retelling — I have no clue how it has anything to do with Rumpelstiltskin. The only echo is a father (and mother) giving up his child to save his life. But such a stretch does not a retelling make.

The writing kept me engaged throughout, which speaks to the author’s skill. Unfortunately, that was the only aspect I enjoyed. To be clear, my issues with the story aren’t due to the quality of the writing itself.

The two main characters are supposed to be morally gray, but their actions actually fit the definition of evil. Part of evil’s lure is that people who engage in it don’t think they’re being evil. They think what they are doing is right, even when it’s entirely selfish.

The “rogue” in this entry prides himself on supposedly seeing the world as it is, not as he wishes it to be. He tells the protagonist, “I think the world is broken. And the only way to survive it is to stop pretending it can be fixed.” His proposal seems to be to break it down further, destroy it utterly.

Needless to say, this is not the kind of story for me.

“Survival wasn’t built on mercy. It was built on strength, and Ryker never wavered in that belief.” Destruction isn’t strength. Indifference to the well-being of others isn’t strength.

“‘Because I’m not afraid of you. And because I’m not afraid of what I can become.’” She should be, the fool.

Favorite quotations:
• “If you’re lying about this, I’ll make sure you’re in the afterlife before me.”
• The corridors of the palace were silent, the kind of silence that pressed against your ears and made every step sound like thunder.

Remaining stories
A Vow of Fire and Vengeance by Rae Summers (#3):
Genre: Semi-mystery
Tropes: Touch books and die, dragon shifting

Sensitive aspect: Severe violence

Of Thrones and Savage Things by Jada McCrary (#4):
*It is recommended to read Of Fae and Wicked Kings before this but not required. There will be spoilers for Of Fae and Wicked Kings if you read this first, though.*

A fake engagement, a threat in the shadows, and an obsessive suitor. This wasn’t what I signed up for….

It’s been a few short weeks since Gwyndolin was liberated from Lord Valen’s estate, and the Unseelie high king who freed her now owns her. Unless she can pull off this fake engagement and live with him for a year, he will let his people continue their assaults on hers.

Talk about sacrifice.

But this morally gray, violence-prone king won’t let her fall, not when he’s already fallen for her.

Enemies lurk in the shadows, and unseen villains threaten everything they’ve worked toward. Both love and betrayal come from the most unlikely places in this heart-stopping, enemies-to-lovers fae romantasy unlike anything you’ve ever read before. Will love be enough to save them, or will it be their doom?

In this book you’ll get 7 short romance fairytale retell stories by 7 different authors about a damsel being wooed and falling for the villain/anti- hero within the 547 pages. All have an HEA.

Of Thorns and Savage Things by Jada McCrary
Honestly, the reason I chose this book was so that I could read THIS story. It is a continuation of the Wicked Fae series: Of Fae & Wicked Kings is Book 1. Be sure to read that one first! It’s a budding love story between a human and a high unseelie Fae king. He is in love with her and yet she just can’t seem to figure out why he loves her so much. Waiting for the lightbulb to go off in her head. I can't wait to read more of this lovely story.

Playing the Piper by Jes Drew
This story turned out much more interesting than I thought it was going to be. The author provides a different perspective of the pied piper that we know of. We are given a glimpse into why he led the children away from their parents; it was to save them from a plague. He falls in love with a widow and her young son. It was nice that the author showed the piper as someone who can give love and is open to receiving love.

A Dance of Shadows and Thorns by C. N. Noble
I loved this story and the characters so much that I wish the author had developed it into a series; maybe someday, right? The story is about a prince who wears a disguise to fight crime in his kingdom. He meets his “cinderella ” type and begins to think she may be involved in crime. He finds out that she is innocent and they can't deny their feelings for each other. But wait, she's already engaged. Get this book to find out how it ends!

A Vow of Fire and Vengeance by Rae Summers
A dragon who has 1st edition copies of famous books in her hord, takes a nap for 125 yrs. A hiker comes along while she’s sleeping and steals all of her books which is connected to the amount of magic she has. She wakes, shifts to her human form, and goes into the nearest town to buy food and get new books. She meets a human familiar with magic who helps her. She also can sense her soul bond (mate) as he would have touched one of her books for her to feel the soul bond. There is also a slew of missing people in town somehow related to her stolen books. Read more to find out just who her soul bond is.

Bloodbound Hunt by Tasha Creed
This story provides an explanation as to how all of the paranormals were created. The love story involves the wolf shifter and his bride. She stays with him to get to know him. Then She’s stolen away. He finds her. They go off into the sunset for their HEA. I like how the author wrote that they were drawn to each other. I think that attraction is what kept me engaged in this story.

Storm Under Siege by Harper Lynn
Futuristic, city destroyed from apocalypse. New ruler captures girl; her name is Storm. She chooses the new ruler over her fiancé. At first, I struggled to understand why the leading lady chose the new ruler, but the more I thought about it, I realized that strength really can be perceived in different ways. So while I disagreed with who Storm chose to be with, it was a story that provoked thought characters strengths and weaknesses.

Odeath Odette by Sophea Chan
Odette is a cursed princess. The curse was brought upon by some incident involving her father. The story doesn't share this detail. Her father sends her away to marry another king, Valtor who is a monster (in his form). He tells Odette that yes she is cursed, but she is also the salvation to that curse. He speaks in riddles and puzzles to her. So while she tries to figure those out, Odette’s father wages war on her new kingdom. Odette admits that there is an invisible force that is drawing her to Valtor. I was surprised at how their relationship develops. I was even more amazed at how the development of their relationship intrigued me. The author writes a creative ending that I hadn’t considered. Definitely worth reading!!!.

Book two of this amazing Anthology series and I am obsessed! This book has 7 short anthologies written by different indie authors, some of these stories are a continuation from book 1 so I highly recommend reading the books in order.
FIrstly lets talk about age and content ratings-
Each story varies, some are young adult, and some are new adult/adult. They all have 0 spice (are closed door), but do have some adult content in terms of violence, adult insinuations (nothing lewd, but can be read between the lines), and some include some dark content that may be triggering for some people. The triggers are in the beginning of the book so I encourage everyone to read the triggers before moving forward in the series. Even with these books being closed door, they are not suitable for young teens, with this in mind I highly recommend these books to be 18+.

On to my thoughts:
Each short story brought it's own twists and turns.

Playing The Piper by Jes Drew-
A retelling of the pied piper. I loved this one and hope there is a continuation of this story later in the series because I got attached to the MC.

A Dance of Shadow and Thorns By C.N. Noble-
Cinderella with a twist! With themes of betrayal, forced marriage, and a smuggling operation. I was not disappointed by this high-stakes story. (I may have yelled at the fmc a couple times but that is okay).

A Vow of Fire and Vegenace by Rae Summers- A story about a dragon whose hoard consists of books! Saphira is my spirit animal. Loved the cozy story vibes.

Of Thrones and Savage Things By Jada McCrary-
First off the dedication is- "To those whose favorite color is morally grey... Boy do I have the book for you!" This dedication was 100% accurate. If you like Morally grey fae king and a human who LOATHES him then this is your book. I had to stop myself from throwing my kindle at the end of this story because of the cliff hanger! Unfortunately this isn't netflix so I must patiently wait for the next part.

Blood Bound Hunt By Tasha Creed -
Closed door and a werewolf- Need I say more? Oh I will. The amount of stubborn the mmc is had me wanting to chuck my kindle again. It is okay no kindle's were harmed while reading these stories. It ended well so I managed to salvage the emotional damage I have incurred by this book.

Storm Under SIege By Harper Lynn -
This story gives me avatar the last airbender vibes, but if the avatar was a villain. The ending took me by surprise, and I hope that there is an extension of this story later in the series.

Odeath Odette by Sophea Chan -
Monster Romance. Yes, believe it or not there is a no-spice monster romance in this book. The mmc is basically a dragon born person with wings and all. The fmc was forced into an arranged marriage because she is cursed and her father was trying to yeet her out of his castle. The yearning in this story is 10/10.

I cannot wait till volume 3 is released!

This is a fun anthology in which you get 7 stories by 7 different authors. In this anthology its about the damsels falling for the anti hero.

Of Thorns and Savage Things by Jada McCrary this is the first story we dive into. It leads off of her Wicked Fae SEries book 1. This story shows the love between a. Human and the Unseelie Fae King. She just cant understand why he loves her, but their romance slowly grows. I’ll be interested to see where the full story goes

Playing the Piper by Jes Drew . This is definitely a different take on the pied piper story we know. We learned why he led the children away from their parents, it was to save them.\He fell in love with a widow and her son.

A Dance of Shadows and Thorns by C. N. Noble This one is about a prince in disguise who fights crime. He meets a mysterious woman who he thinks is involved in the crimes, but she ends up being innocent. He can now acknowledge his feelings for her but uh oh shes already engaged.I cant wait till we get more .

A Vow of Fire and Vengeance by Rae Summers . We start this story with a book hoarding dragon who has a bunch of 1st editions books of really famous books in her collection. She thinks her collection is safe so she hibernates for 125 years. A hiker stumbles upon her collection while she’s sleeping and takes all the books, which messes with her magic. When she wakes she shifts into her human form and goes to town to get some supplies. She ends up meeting a human familiar with magic who decides to help her. While in town she senses her mate because he touched the books. There is also a twist of missing people which is related to her books. I cant wait for more of this story

Bloodbound Hunt by Tasha Creed This story tells us how all paranormal were created. It tells us about a wolf shifter and his bride, she stays with him so they can get to know each other. Then she gets kidnapped. He is able to find her . This was a fun quick read with a hea.

Storm Under Siege by Harper Lynn aN Apocoliptic story. I love thee type of stories. A new ruler in the futuristic city has captured a girl named Storm. She chooses this man over the man she was engaged to. This was definitely and interesting read. To see Storms choices and why she chose to stay with the ruler over her former engagement

Odeath Odette by Sophea Chan . We follow Odette who is a cursed princes. She has been cursed because of something her father did. Her father sent her away to marry a king. Valor who is a monster. He often speaks to ODette in riddles and puzzles for her to solve. Meanwhile Odettes’ father is starting a war on her new kingdom. Odette admits she is drawn to Valtor, and their relationship starts to develop. This story was very interesting and fun to read

I recently finished this enchanting anthology and I'm absolutely spellbound! Get ready for seven magnificent tales where villains prove they deserve their own happily ever after. 📚✨

The two stories that stood out for me were:

"Playing the Piper" by Jes Drew absolutely stole my heart as my favorite story in this collection! This beautiful reimagining of the Pied Piper tale features a single mother, undead rats, and a mysterious piper with the gift of visions. What made this story stand out was how Drew masterfully balanced the darkness of the plague with tender moments between Carina and Aleric. The way she wove together motherhood, second chances, and supernatural elements while keeping the heart of the original tale was pure storytelling magic! 🎵

"Bloodbound Hunt" Tasha Creed delivers a dark and atmospheric story that explores the internal struggle between man and beast. The narrative follows Lycidas, a powerful wolf shifter whose control over his inner wolf is slowly slipping away.

What makes this story particularly engaging is the raw intensity of Lycidas's struggle. Creed portrays the psychological battle between the protagonist and his wolf nature, especially during the full moon. We witness Lycidas literally caging himself to maintain control, only to have his wolf side emerge stronger than ever.

The world-building is rich and intriguing, set against the backdrop of a complex political arrangement between immortals and human kingdoms. The mention of Dreagon's deal requiring brides for each immortal adds an interesting layer of political intrigue to the supernatural elements.

In a twist of fate, Lycidas encounters Scarlett, a striking beauty with fiery red hair who proves to be more than just another human in his path. Their connection adds another layer of complexity to Lycidas's already tumultuous battle with his inner wolf. As his mate, Scarlett becomes both his greatest strength and his most significant vulnerability. 🐺

If you love morally grey characters, slow-burn romance, and villains getting their happy ending, this anthology needs to be your next read!

Romancing the Rogue Charming the Damsel is a delightful collection of stories that completely swept me away! This anthology delivers exactly what it promises, charming rogues, clever damsels, and swoon-worthy, clean romances. The premise is fantastic, exploring the intriguing idea of villains venturing into the hero's territory of love, and the execution is absolutely brilliant.

Each author brings a unique flavor to the theme, showcasing different types of rogues and damsels, ensuring there's a story to capture every reader's heart. The writing is consistently strong, with compelling characters, witty dialogue, and plots that kept me hooked from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed the diverse range of villains, from dark lords with hidden depths to charming scoundrels finally meeting their match.

The damsels in this volume are far from helpless, they are intelligent, resourceful, and more than capable of holding their own against these roguish suitors. Watching the villains attempt to woo these women, often stumbling along the way, was both hilarious and heartwarming. The chemistry between the characters is palpable in each story, and the closed-door romances are beautifully written, focusing on emotional connection and genuine affection.

This anthology is perfect for anyone who enjoys a touch of villainy in their love stories, appreciates well-developed characters, and loves a good happily ever after. Huge kudos to Sophea Chen, Harper Lynn, Tasha Creed, Jada McCrary, C.N. Noble, Jes Drew & Rae Summers for crafting such a captivating and enchanting collection! I highly recommend Romancing the Rogue Charming the Damsel you won't be disappointed!

Romancing the Rogue: Charming the Damsel is an all-consuming anthology of fantasy, romance, and the inimitable charm of the villain. With seven compelling authors—Sophea Chan, Harper Lynn, Tasha Creed, Jada McCrary, C.N. Noble, Jes Drew, and Rae Summers—on board, the book answers the provocative question of what occurs when the villain chooses to play the hero's game.

In this collection, clever rogues and sinister lords hold the spotlight, using intelligence, guile, and a dash of risk to entice damsels far from damsels-in-distress. Breaking from common romance tropes by bringing villains into the role of lover, these tales reveal the underappreciated potential of the bad guys for gentleness and ardor. The outcome is a magical and invigorating take on the old theme of redemption and romantic love.

One of the best aspects of the anthology is its investigation into the fine line between heroism and villainy. The characters are well fleshed out, motivations complicated, and romances as surprising as they are sweet. With the closed-door nature of the tales, the romances among the characters are tangible, and the emotional stakes are high.

This is one enjoyable offering for readers of fantasy romances featuring morally ambiguous heroes. It subverts the expectation of who deserves to be loved and reminds us all that even the worst of villains is redeemable if loved by the right person. Those readers who love clean, swoon-worthy tales with a touch of danger will adore this anthology.

I was lucky enough to beta read Of Thrones and Savage Things, and I LOVE this continuation of Gwyn and Aspen's story from Romancing the Rogue Vol 1! The love triangle including Aspen's nicer twin brother definitely puts a spin on
"evil twin." Although I do think I prefer Aspen, v!0lent tendencies and all. It really seems he would do anything for Gwyn! Plus, their banter is soo good!

Favorite quotes (can I just include all of Aspen's dialogue?)
I'd suggest you take your hands off of my future wife if you want to keep them. People who touch her in my presence tend to start losing them.
Pet, I don't handle anything when it comes to you. You are the sole reason for driving me mad each and every day.
"It's not like the loss of one human would break your kingdom." "You don't think your d3ath would break me?"

If you love a dark fantasy with fated love, fairytale retelling, villain romance, morally grey romance, fake engagement, twisted villains, multiple love interests, he falls first, touch her and perish, Beauty and the Beast themes, enemies to lovers, brooding hero, strong female lead, slow burn, shifters, fae, magical races, mystery adventure, and learning the 21st century, check out this anthology!

I received an advanced review copy for free. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.

Romancing the Rogue volume two is the second of anthologies where the villain is the one who gets the girl. All the authors were new to me and I now have a few more to add to my TBR list. There are seven stories. Some work better than others.
Loving the Monster by TM Goodkey was my favorite. About a man who searched for ten years for his love. Savan is no longer the caring boy Catalina remembered. In his quest to find her, Savan made some poor choices and believes himself a monster. Catalina has to decide if she can love the man he's become. It ends in a HFN.
Eel Shipping by Megan Mosier is a classic horror story. There is a romance between the main characters. But it all comes down to who is really in control. The scientists or the alien species they're studying.
Jada McCray's Of Fae and Wicked Kings is an enemies to lovers story between a Seelie envoy and an Unseelie king. Ends on a cliffhanger, it has lots of intrigue and suspense.
Sophea Chan's Dead Man's Grave is fun of the swashbuckling kind. Pirates. Betrayal and double dealing. There's a morally gray bad/good 'hero' and a feisty love interest. A bit of violent fun.
Short stories make for a quick read. Fun read. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

Preface: A Vow of Fire and Vengeance is a part of Romancing the Rogue: Volume 2. I only read this book, not the entire thing.

I loved this book.

This is a unique story, one that I haven't read anywhere else before. I have read well over a hundred books, of all different genres, since the beginning of my reading journey in 2020.

Human to book dragon? Magic that comes from the books around her? Soul bond? Saving children who are being trafficked?

She has it all in this book. Her FMC is a badass (with gorgeous green eyes, might I add), a big heart, and perseverance.

Saphira is a book dragon with a hoard of first edition books that go missing while she is taking a nap. These books are also connected to the amount of magic that she has. While she was asleep for those 125 years, someone snuck into her cave and stole all of them. She discovers this when she wakes up from her deep slumber, shifts back to her human form, and decides to take action. She needs to find her hoard.

I don't want to say too much more and spoil it but this book was so worth the read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something new, a book with a unique concept, and also a closed door romance.

Whenever I read an anthology, it matters to me that the piece I’m reading manages to grab my attention from the start. With short novella sized stories there isn’t much time to get immersed in the world and the characters, so it has to happen almost instantly. Two stories really did that for me, and a third managed to sneak up on me.

First the two that got to me from the start: “A dance of shadows and Thorns” and “Storm under Seige”. The first story is a pleasant combination of regency romance with fantasy elements, a fascinating male character, and the woman who brings light to his life. “Storm under Seige” is something entirely different, but I don’t want to give away spoilers. I can however say my attention was drawn by the worldbuilding, and kept through the surprising developments.

And last but not least, “Odeath Odette”. While it didn’t entirely drew me in from the start, I do like a good prophecy and because I continued reading, I did start to enjoy it after all.

If you like shorter stories, and like to be surprised by morally grey characters, I’m pretty sure there is something for everyone in this anthology!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This is an anthology where the "bad guys" find love. This was SO much fun to read!
Romancing the Rogue: Volume 2 is a series of short stories all featuring morally gray, complicated male characters — and I was absolutely hooked. It immediately reminded me of the Night World series by L.J. Smith, but with a darker, more mature twist. Unlike Night World, the stories here aren’t connected, but each one draws you into its own rich, immersive world.

The writing is so vivid and atmospheric. Every story had a different flavor, from dangerous and broody to romantic and twisted, and I couldn’t help but fall in love (and sometimes fear for my life) alongside the heroines.

If you’re into villains, anti-heroes, or dark fantasy romance, this anthology is a must. Just a heads up — be sure to check the trigger warnings first because some stories do dive into heavier and darker topics.

Highly recommend if you love morally gray love interests, forbidden romances, and a little danger sprinkled into your stories!

I was instantly drawn in by the description of this second volume of stories: what if the villain/dark lord/scoundrel/rogue got the girl? With this collection of fairy tale retellings, I was intrigued. I am still working my way through this volume of short stories, but both Sophea Chan's Odeath Odette and Jes Drew's Playing the Piper were phenomenal!

Odeath Odette introduces readers to a cursed princess named Odette who finds herself married off to a king named Valtor. While Odette works to break her own curse, one Valtor notes only she can do, a war is looming while also a growing attraction between the two. A unique, page turner that is a must read!

Playing the Piper shows readers a new side of the Pied Piper story. One where he drew the children away to keep them safe, and along the way, he finds his own happiness by falling in love. Another unique take on a known tale with a twist!

This book was a little boring, in terms of the shallowness of each character I came across. There were characters passionately in love, but I was *told* their passion instead of *feeling* it.

I know the title of this is “Romancing the Rogue,” with a heavy emphasis on the *rogue* part, but honestly I felt like the authors tried to redeem the “bad” guys with this backstory that was probably supposed to be touching, but for me it felt pitiful instead. I suppose that’s what happens when you only have a paragraph or less to introduce your character, and I’m aware that this is a collection of novellas. But I still think that it could have been written somewhat better.

Content: Clean-ish. Mentions of gruesome death and violence, PTSD from war, death of spouse, etc. I would say at least be 15 years old before reading this.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC. All opinions are my own.

I love villains getting the girl, especially when the villain isn't in the wrong. Most of these villains aren't even in the wrong here, so I was so expecting a lot of time spent on building romance between the villain and the love interest but found that was not the point of these stories. Does the villain get the love interest? Yes. Do they woo them? Sometimes. Are the stories still entertaining? Absolutely.

My two favorites are Jes Drew's Pied Piper Retelling, I really loved this one and wish it had been longer so we could have had more time with the MMC and FMC bonding, and the continued story of King Aspen by Jada McCrary. You have to read the previous story that introduces the characters or you might be lost but I really can't wait for more.

Romancing the Rogue: Charming the Damsel is the second volume in this series and another enchanting collection of fantasy romance stories.
I can’t say I have a favorite as they were all nicely written and engaging with a variety of flavors to choose from and each with danger, love, captivating characters, charm, and closed-door intimacy.
Worlds to get lost in where villains are not quite villains and love conquers all.

1. Playing the Piper - Jes Drew
2. A Dance of Shadows and Sand Thorns - C. N. Noble
3. A Vow of Fire and Vengeance - Rae Summers
4. Of Thrones and Savage Things - Jada McCrary
5. Bloodhound Hunt- Tasha Creed
6. Storm Under Seige - Harper Lynn
7. Odeath Odette - Sophea Chan.

This was a great collection of stories, all different but all good.
My favourite was A Vow of Fire and Vengeance by Rae Summers, for a start there was a purple dragon-my favourite colour and mythical animal! Then there was a hoard of books and a quest to recover them, throw in a fated mate and you have a perfect mix. Also, the story felt like a starter to a series so I am going to keep an eye out for that!
Also a great read was Odeath Odette by Sophea Chan, this was a, sort of Beauty and the Beast tale, but the beast never became fully human at the end! In a typically male move, Valtor doesn't communicate with his bride, Odette, and nearly looses her but she come to love him and they finally learn to communicate and realise that they do love each other.

I loved the continuation of Jada McCrary's of Fae and Wicked Kings.
Aspen has got to be one of my top morally gray characters. When the villain is a cinnamon roll for only her *chefs kiss* I love this story and can't wait for October to find out what happens. You need to read Of Fae and Wicked Kings to understand this story. If you love enemies to lovers, plot twist, hidden identities, touch her and d*e vibes, betrayal, villain gets the girl, no spice but all the tension, then this book is for you! Even if you don't like those things, this book is still for you! Easily 5 stars from me!.

Most of the stories in this collections were well-written and wonderful. There were a couple that connected into stories fron the previous collection, but they can mostly stand alone without previous knowledge.

There was one story that I am desperately hoping got more editing before the official release because it had great potential, but the editing was not there.

I enjoyed both Drew's take on the Pied Piper and Creed's expansion of her previous story world immensely and look forward to seeing how Creed's world continues to expand as well as a continuation of the story that McCrary has been building in these collections.

I’ll be honest the main reason I wanted to read this was because of the story in it by Jada McCrary. I have become rather invested in the story of Gwyn and Aspen. And of the continuation of their story left me wanting more. I hope she finally realizes how much she actually loves Aspen. But I did enjoy reading a few of the other stories. The one that I was surprised to have enjoyed reading as much as I did was the one about the pied piper. The one about the book dragon was entertaining as well. I recommend reading the whole book of stories they’re worth it.

Romancing the Rogue: Volume Two contains seven stories, all by different authors.

A few of the short stories were fulfilled by the end, but there were a few who leave you wanting more and end on a more cliffhanger note.

I got very invested in the story Of Fae and Wicked Kings. This one ended on a cliffhanger and I am going to need to read the next book to see how this is going to conclude.

I really liked Playing the Piper as it was a Pied Piper retelling. It was super creative and I liked how the main characters interreacted with each other.

Odeath Odette by Sophea Chan:
This novella resembles a little twisted version of Beauty and the Beast, where also the FMC carries a deadly curse. But the amount of time she spent in the library, having a monstrous husband and learning to see him for who he actually is instead of his appearance.. the story has a fairytale quality. I enjoyed Odette's explorative journey to get to know her husband and watching her loyalties shift, while she grew into the role of the queen of a land she wasn't born into and did not know. When fear turns into love, the true magic happens.

This is a great collection of stories.

If you are into the anti-hero romances then this is it! The villains are to die for and the romances will absolutely sweep you off your feet!

I have found a couple of new authors through this and I am absolutely doing to be devouring all of their books!

I loved Odette Odeath by Sophia Chan - it was shrouded in darkness and it had all of the things I love in a villainous romance.

There are so many amazing authors and books to read - why not dive in!
