Detective Pale Rysen, an Alpha, is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females looking for sanctuary, it's his job to protect them. Forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.

Jade-Scarlet's membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. A half-wolf, Jade's unstable psychic powers are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. Yet Pale triggers more than her curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts—something she can't allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight each other?

Still awesome, but... Why does this book absolutely had to have insta-love? The whole timeline is for three-five days? If Dee Tenorio had written the timeline for ... two months or four, man this book would have been even better. I really like this book though, and I'm sure I'll re-read it again sometime in the future. Oh, and how old are the characters? Still cannot figure that out...
“If there's one thing you should understand better than the humans, it's that females should never be ruled out by virtue of strength. Some of us have ways to equalize the equation.”

His eyes smoldering, he said only two words. “Prove it.”
Ah man, this was better than i thought. I'm so glad i picked up this book. Dee Tenorio is a good author, I must say! :)

I loved the characters and the story was well written. Getting to see both Jade and Pale's POV was perfect, and I enjoyed the whole book.
He traced her chin, running his fingers to her throat, watching them wander over the swells of her breasts to the line of the towel. His finger hooked the edge again.
“Pull and I’ll bake you alive.” A crooked grin revealed one of his fangs.
“Strength is a desired trait in a female. Makes a male want to dominate.”
And that grin made her want to be dominated. Her want tightened her throat, because she couldn’t have him knowing what she craved. “Good thing you’re above that kind of stupidity.”

And to say that I was sexually frustrated wouldn't even begin to explain what i felt.
Let's just say that U was constantly hot, warm, and pretty wet..

The worst part? I still am.. Between trying to solve the case, Jade being in the heat, and Pale being dominant as it gets, trying to stay away... Damn, i was lost.
“I am not yours to command, Detective.”
“Yes, you are," he snapped, his canines flashing savagely in the moonlight, possessiveness coursing off him. "Mine to command, mine to protect. Mine in every way you can imagine.”

Jade got some release, but not the right kind, and it was almost blowing my mind.. I needed them to get it on, get a full release with powerful, hard thrust.. So through the book i continued to ask myself...

The romance, though.. damn... I want my own Pale!!!! How can he be so goddamn dominant, and so sensitive? So lovable and caring, but somehow not looking weak? I loved him, simple as that.
“You are what I want.” Did he even know the way his eyes glowed when he watched her? That when his voice was so gruff, she could feel it and all the longing he had in it? That he was stealing parts of her heart with every word? “I want all of you. For always.”

And Jade.. Her scenes with Emmitt.. It almost broke my heart, and it got me close to tears..

“That's her! That's my lucky star lady!” She jerked, looking around for the excited voice, piping and small, but excited. “Emmitt?” The little boy came running, his dark hair gleaming in the winter sun, color in his cheeks and excitement on his face. He crashed into her, a solid little body.

I really wish we get more of Jade with kids.. Really, really do.. So let's continue explaining Jade. She's strong, loyal, caring, sweet and in my eye, innocent. But not weak, I tell you. She's a woman who have fought her whole life to survive, and while doing that, she became a independent woman.
“If there's one thing you should understand better than the humans, it's that females should never be ruled out by virtue of strength. Some of us have ways to equalize the equation.”

What I didn't like was the fact that everything happened over 3-4 days, (I only pictured in my mind that it was taking longer time between everything that happened, which then in my head made everything better :P) and that it was a little slow at times. Other than that, it was awesome. I really needed this. And it definitely made me wanting more! I'm looking forward to read more from Dee Tenorio.

This was a nice engaging read with an interesting world. The shape-shifters are a hunted species and the hero is a wolf in hiding; a detective. Then the heroine comes into his life to help with a homicide. The heroine is of a species he hates, the Sibile, but she is also part-wolf; a part she has buried and a part that tempts him. We are told the heroine is in heat, something she doesn't know about and there is burning sexual tension throughout the book but their fundamental differences stand in the way. I did like how things worked out at the very end.

Tempting the Enemy is my first taste of Dee Tenorio’s ability to spin an incredible tale in the paranormal suspense genre. Book one in the series entitled Resurrection, Dee introduces us into a world of shape shifters and a fascinating breed known as Sibiles who have different kinds of abilities together with a history of bad blood between themselves and the wolf shifters.

Pale Reysen is an Alpha who has sworn to create a safe haven for wolf shifters whose vast numbers have rapidly declined since humans had started hunting them down. Part of the Violent Crimes Division at the Moonridge Police Station where the chase is on to find a serial killer dubbed as the Woodsman by the media, Pale is as ecstatic as someone waiting on deathrow when their captain announces that a Sibile would be helping them on their race against time as the dead body parts continue to pile up.

When half-Wolf and half-Sibile Jade-Scarlet walks into his police station bringing with her the undeniable scent of a Wolf female in Heat, Pale nearly loses it as his Wolf growls, pricks and pokes him to unleash the beast so that it can claim its rightful mate. However, the fact remains that having being once betrayed by her kind, Pale would never have a reason to let Jade in nor give into the hunger that seems to shred his insides to pieces.

Jade is a Wolf who has too long denied her animal side, having lived with The Order ever since her parents were killed. A Sibile whose abilities lie in being able to hunt down emotional signatures left behind, Jade however has a hard time keeping her mind on the mission of uncovering the identity of a vicious killer as all her instincts scream at her to lay down and offer herself to the Wolf that seems to unleash such violent desire within her.

Bound by a need neither can deny, both Jade and Pale learns to trust one another as they are forced to spend time together chasing a killer whose nefarious intents when it comes to light sends cold dread racing through Jade’s insides as she realizes what it is she must do in order to rid the world of a mad man who would stop at nothing in his quest to belong. With the future shrouded in uncertainty, Jade gives herself up to the Wolf she will mate with for life, knowing that in the end that they would both have to go their separate ways regardless of how much they would be giving up by forcing themselves to walk away from one another.

Tempting the Enemy is a story that combines a fantastic paranormal world and delivers edge-of-the-seat suspense together with a passion that is scorching enough to render you into a puddle of goo. From the start, the intense connection between Jade and Pale never lets up and the killer’s cunning plans which ties along neatly with Jade’s appearance rendering this a well balanced paranormal romantic suspense.

Pale is a broody and mouth-wateringly sexy hero whose possessive streak is a mile wide, his protectiveness an undeniable facet of him that endeared him to me from the start. Jade is the type of heroine I have come to accept and love when it comes to books by Dee; loyal, feisty and vulnerable with a core of steel that doesn’t let anyone run roughshod over them. Each of the characters introduced along the way held my riveted, undivided attention, marking them off in my mind as future candidates who should receive their own stories in this series somewhere down the line.

Highly enjoyable, Tempting the Enemy is recommended for fans of paranormal romantic suspense and fans of Dee Tenorio who have yet to find out the amazing things she can do in this genre.

Memorable Quotes

He turned his head toward the open double doors across from his desk, inhaling a deep breath. A new scent drifted to him, distinct from the usual grime and wear inside the department. Warm honey. Cloves. Citrus soap under the light salt of sweat. Female.

“You are what I want.” Did he even know the way his eyes glowed when he watched her? That when his voice was so gruff, she could feel it and all the longing he had in it? That he was stealing parts of her heart with every word? “I want all of you. For always.”

Pale circled the bed and picked her up in his arms. Her cheeks turned his favorite shade of red as he kissed her, his heart full of so many things he couldn’t say. Not yet. So he kissed her again and felt the rest of his soul become hers.

I'm constantly amazed by how really familiar elements from a certain kind of story can be reworked and recombined to create something new and unique. Tempting the Enemy is a good example of this, and also an example of how a story can truly be more than the sum of its parts. Taken individually, these elements aren't anything that haven't been done before; working together, they yield a story that, while cumbersome in parts, is definitely intriguing and unique.

At first blush, the hero and heroine kind of seem like more of the same old same old. Pale Rysen is a snarly alpha with a hidden agenda; Jade Scarlet has tremendous powers and a secret to hide and feels like she can't trust anybody. Maybe what made this element unique for me was the sheer magnitude of the secrets each of them is keeping: Pale is trying to hide the fact that he's a shifter because there's been a genocide against shifters, and not only his life but the lives of the community of refugees he's protecting are in jeopardy if he's outed. Jade is a half shifter and her powers are tremendous; so not only would her life be in danger from shifter-haters, but from others as well. This is no lightweight conflict, and there are a ton of past issues and betrayals that have to be overcome by these two, in the face of pretty much crippling Heat and attraction that both of them would rather ignore.

I will share with you, though, my gripe about this book. While I am completing understanding and sympathetic to the fact that Pale has a lot of issues with the Sibile and with witches in general due to some horrific, the fact still stands that he was an epic douchebag to Jade for a good portion of the story, even when he was trying to be all nurturing and protective. It took away a little of the believability factor for me in terms of their relationship, as there were times that it was hard to understand why Jade would want to throw in her lot with this guy, when he can't seem to keep a civil tongue in his head. There comes a point for me with a romance plot where the characters being in love means they have to kind of act like they're in love, and I had trouble buying into that with this story. I have to say though, the last scene where he brings her to the compound where the refugees are staying was an extremely well-done ending to the story, and left the door open for a sequel in a way that didn't take away from the story here.

All issues aside, this was an entertaining story with a dystopian feel that combined familiar elements in a new way. If that sounds like something that rings your bell then I can definitely endorse giving this story a whirl.

TEMPTING THE ENEMY by Dee Tenorio is a paranormal romance/suspense. It is written with detail and depth. It has romance, suspense, shifters, wolves, mystery, sensuality, and passion. It is fast paced, action packed with great characters that are strong and determined. Jade and Pale are faced with challenges, peril, lust, their strength compliment each other which makes them a perfect match. Jade, half wolf, half Sibile her powers are unstable. She has always felt out of place in the Sibile world due partly to the lost of her parents as traitor. She will learns secrets she didn't know existed. With the help of Pale, a true wolf, she will learn to control her powers, where she truly belong and try to protect her life mate, Pale. a wolf, a detective who is wary of Jade because she is a Sibile, is strong, an Alpha wolf, trying to revive the Wolf packs that where all but lost due to genocide years before. He has finally meet his life mate in Jade, but can their strengths, lust and love for each other save them in the end? They are looking for a serial killer of young women, he is killing both Sibiles and wolves, leaving their discarded bodies to be found. Their hearts have been removed and triangles shape left cut out in their bodies. This is a wonderful, amazing story of trust, romance, suspense, finding the truth and learning to live anew. If you enjoy paranormal, with shifters, wolves, and great characters you will enjoy this one. This could possible become a great series. Memorable Scenes:
- Jade trying to get Emmitt out of his shock > this scene had me swallowing back my tears, which I barely managed to do...
- the bonding scene > just wow... I have no words to describe what this scene did to me

Jade-Scarlet is an empathic Sibile with the gift of manipulating light and a half-breed Wolf shifter. She’s sarcastic, defiant, giving and loyal.

Pale Rysen is a homicide detective and Wolf shifter. He’s the Alpha of a pack he’s trying to build up after the humans tried to erase the shifters from the face of the Earth. He’s a dominant alpha in every sense of the word, broody and ruthless but also gentle and tender at times.

There are so many reasons Jade and Pale can't be together, yet with their instant and strong chemistry they give the trope of star-crossed lovers a new meaning. Their verbal battles and internal emotional struggles were awesome to read. Jade's defiance triggers Pale's need to dominate and Pale's alphaness grates on Jade's sense of independence, this made for wonderfully explosive interactions that also inadvertently built up the sexual tension between them. The love scenes were sexy and beautiful (I have no other way of describing them) and they matched with the characterization perfectly.

Wolf shifters, witches with special gifts, human law enforcement, a vile serial killer to be stopped and caught, I gobbled it all up! I loved that the world building was clear yet non-intrusive to the plot, characterization or romance. Subtly imbedded into the rest it's set up perfectly, not too much on the forefront and enticing enough to want to know more.

The prologue immediately set the tone. I was fascinated, wondering what was going on and my heart was pounding with excitement. Since I'm terrible at figuring out who the killer is (whether in books, movies or TV shows), this time again I was going back and forth between several characters not homing in on the right on till the very end. As with everything else in this book, I loved the suspense and how it was played out and wrapped up.

Dee Tenorio's writing is intense and packs a tremendous emotional punch. Whether it's character-driven contemporary romance, sizzling erotic romance or dark paranormal romantic suspense, it never fails to keep me enthralled in its emotional grip. I think the intensity also makes Dee Tenorio's books somewhat slow-paced and this is not a bad thing because even though I love reading fast-paced books, the intensity and slower pace give me room to savor her books to the fullest. And savor TEMPTING THE ENEMY I definitely did!

The fact that I added this book to my 2011 favorite reads list immediately after finishing it and the huge amount of favorite quotes I marked (but had to cut as to not make the quotes outnumber the review) should indicate how much I enjoyed this book. I'm so ready for the next installment of Resurrection! And luckily it's waiting for me on my TBR pile and I saw it's Tate's book. I adored the banter between the pack members, especially Tate and Ty caught my attention and I was beyond happy when I found out the next book in this series would Tate’s. He is so much more than met the eye in those short moments he was on the pages...can't wait!

If you're looking for an original and excellently written and refreshing take on paranormal suspense, look no further as TEMPTING THE ENEMY has it all: the heart pounding suspense, the complicated romance, the intriguing world building and the complex, three-dimensional characters. I highly recommend this book to readers who love a strong suspense element in paranormal romance and to readers who love a little (okay, a lot) of dominance in their hero.

Favorite Quotes:
A chair wheeled backward with a squeak, which meant Jorgensen was on the move. A little older than Pale, a lot friendlier and apparently everything women found attractive, Jorgensen rarely had to work to grab a woman’s grateful attention, so Pale knew it wouldn’t take long for this Sibile to become equally captivated. He waited to be relieved. All he felt was a decidedly strong desire to tear out the other detective’s throat and lay it at her feet for a gift.

“I always figured Pale’s mate a girl with as thick a beard as he has,” Tate said, because apparently silence was a fate worse than death. “Never thought he’d find someone as pretty as that.”
“She is pretty,” Ty agreed, “but I always figured his mate would have to be blind. Almost feel bad for her, looking at his ugly ass for the rest of her life. That’s just a damn shame.”

He traced her chin, running his fingers to her throat, watching them wander over the swells of her breasts to the line of the towel. His finger hooked the edge again.
“Pull and I’ll bake you alive.”
A crooked grin revealed one of his fangs. “Strength is a desired trait in a female. Makes a male want to dominate.”
And that grin made her want to be dominated. Her want tightened her throat, because she couldn’t have him knowing what she craved. “Good thing you’re above that kind of stupidity.”

But I have no idea what I am. There’s no magical voice in my head telling me the right thing to do. No idea how to give you what you want.”
“You are what I want.” Did he even know the way his eyes glowed when he watched her? That when his voice was so gruff, she could feel it and all the longing he had in it? That he was stealing parts of her heart with every word? “I want all of you. For always.”
(...)
“Then take me, Pale, because I’ll never want anyone else.”
(...)
He lowered himself onto all fours at the foot of the bed, slowly crawling toward her, gaze locked on hers.
His movements were sinuous, even with his hard angles and broad muscle. He settled on his belly next to her, then leaned onto his side. He set his head on one hand and lay there. Letting her look her fill as he picked up the ends of her hair and twined them through his fingers. His eyes smoldering, he said only two words. “Prove it.”

The world-building in this one goes beyond complex and into complicated, I think. Really readable nonetheless - a good strong example of a densely-plotted paranormal romance.

Tempting the Enemy is one of those books that I wasn't sure what to expect with this new-to-me author, however, ended up being very pleased with. To me, it's a combination of CSI, paranormal investigations, and M.Knight Shyamalon's 'The Village'. Okay, I may be a stretching a bit, but you'll see what I mean when you read it! I was hooked from the beginning to the end, following the non-stop action and suspense, and getting all warmed up from the amount of heat being thrown at me that radiated between the hero and heroine!

Pale Rysen is a cop. A wolf in hiding. An alpha in denial. And what a well balanced and sexy alpha he is! He's charged with finding the Woodsman killer, a killer who targets woman of a society that are Rysen's lifelong enemies. What he wasn't prepared for was being forced to work along the side of his enemy, a powerful, but unstable Sibile, to find the serial killer.

She is a half-breed. Part Wolf, part Sibile. A combination of two ageless enemies. Jade, too, is in denial of her heritage and what she could be. Trained to hate the Wolf half of her she knows practically nothing about, she is confused and scared when she goes into Heat in the presence of her sexy detective partner. It's an inconveniently timed event that both Rysen and herself curse. What makes Jade additionally unique is that she has yet to be imprinted by a male. In a time where Wolves are in hiding and declining in numbers do to government induced genocide, Jade is a rare commodity that has just landed herself in the hands of an Alpha! The instinct of succumbing to the Heat threatens to take them both captive, while at the same time, so too, does the Woodsman killer.

Both the hero and heroine are well developed leaving the reader to feel the combination of emotions that they go through. Both are alphas, both have been effected by violent painful pasts, and both are in denial of thinking that destiny has woven their paths together. But, as they continue their investigation and get closer to the truth of the identity of the elusive Woodsman killer, they find out that not everything they've been told may be factual, and some people may not be anything like who they present to be. This leaves the hero and heroine to trust in one another, overcoming the prejudice between themselves, despite their stubbornness to deny their attraction. I give the two of them props for how long they wait before giving into the high amount of sexual tension between them. And when they do..yum!

Ms. Tenorio does a fantastic job at developing a believable relationship between the two which never feels unnatural or too fast. The characters are forced to grow due to external situations that change their perceptions of events and others. This isn't a story where the main characters trip all over themselves in their desperate need of one another. Rather, Tenorio has created a story that is shared equally by romance and storyline, providing readers with a well developed and fascinating plot that brings two people together while maintaining the heart of the characters characteristics.

The secondary characters take more of a back seat in this book and are used to help build events and situations. But those who do make a more obvious presence have been wrote with enough representation to get a feel for their overall character. In addition, the creation of the Sibile species was unique to me and provided a different spin on paranormal powers.

Tenorio's writing style is well paced with just the right amount of description. There are some fantastic one liners and dialogue banter that has landed itself in some of my favorite quotes.

"If there's one thing you should understand better than the humans, it's that females should never be ruled out by virtue of strength. Some of us have ways to equalize the equation."

On a final note, I was thoroughly pleased with the ending of the story. The HEA is perfect for both the characters and the storyline of the book and, in my oppinion, leaves the opportunity for a sequel if wanted by the author.

I highly recommend this book to PNR fans who want action, suspense, and an overall unique tale. You will be highly engaged and swept away in the intense fantasy, action and suspense while being sated with a believable, heart felt, and sexy romance.

In this alternate reality, the government hunts, tags, and dissects Shifters. In addition to the shifter community there are also powerful beings/psychics who use their powers to keep wary humans at bay so that they can’t do the same to them as they do to shifters. Detective Pale Rysen, an alpha shifter in hiding is working incognito in the police department. He’s been made lead on the case of the Woodsman, a vicious killer who has been stalking women and disposing them in a heinous manner. Jade half wolf, half Sibile (the psychic contingent) is brought in when the police cannot unearth clues to the killer’s identity. Pale has had a grudge against Sibiles since a Sibile was the cost of him losing his family. As a result of that disaster, he’s made it his mission to protect the shifter community. Jade, has been considered an abomination her entire life, even from the Sibile who took her in after her parents murder. Jade hopes that by solving this case she’ll prove that she fit to be a member of her adopted community. The only problem is that she knows little to nothing about the wolf/shape-shifter side to her being and she’s in heat, which is a powerful lure to any male werewolf she comes in contact with, including Pale. So now, not only does she have to help Pale capture a killer, she also has to fight the powerful attraction to a man who considers her the enemy.

I’ve read several works by Ms. Tenorio before and I must say TEMPTING THE ENEMY is my favorite release of hers, which is weird as I’m not usually a big fan of paranormal romance. TEMPTING THE ENEMY resonated with me because it was so well rounded and because of the fullness of Jade and Pale’s character arcs. Usually, I have a problem with Ms. Tenorio’s heroines and find them lacking and not strong enough for her compelling heroes. I did not find this the case with TEMPTING THE ENEMY. Despite the umm hotness of Pale, this is completely Jade’s story and transformation and Ms. Tenorio has done an awesome job of navigating Jade’s coming of age, so to speak.

I was also impressed with the plot and how well the paranormal suspense aspect was integrated with Jade and Pale’s romantic transformation. While I suspected who the villain would be from the moment the person appeared on the page (it’s a quirk of mine, I usually always figure out who dun it), the plot twists and turns that outlined the motivation behind the killer’s actions keep me turning the pages wondering how Ms. Tenorio was going to take us there.

I also must give Ms. Tenorio props on the chemistry between Pale and Jade. Even when they didn’t trust each other and snapped at each other, I felt as if they fit together. The angst that separated them and made them feel as if they would never come together as a couple was believable and realistic given their situations, even the hesitation in Jade on being reluctant to fully trust Pale was realistic to me as the fullness of her background and the reality of her existence began to be unraveled. Ms. Tenorio did an awesome job of keeping the readers on their seats. It reminded me of the first time I read Pride and Prejudice not knowing anything about the story and wondering if Elizabeth was going to end up with Mr. Darcy. I wondered how Pale and Jade were going to overcome all the complications and come together, and I was kept guessing until nearly the last page and closed the book deeply satisfied with a smile on my face.

I recommend purchasing TEMPTING THE ENEMY. It is a well-written, perfectly constructed novel with two beautiful, three-dimensional characters.

Review reposted from my Smitten with Reading blog...

My Review:
What a wonderfully creative and inventive world that Dee has created here. This is book #1 in the Resurrection series. Resurrection is a mountain in California that was created as a refuge for shifters. In this world, shifters were subjected to genocide by humans and the packs have been dissolved. Pale, as an alpha, is recreating the pack-life at Resurrection. He also lives as a human working as a homicide detective. Both jobs are intersecting as he hunts for a serial killer, the Huntsman, who kills women (both human and shifters.)

Jade is a 1/2 Sibile, 1/2 wolf shifter. The Sibile's are a strange group and I would like to hear Dee's definitions of them. They are an order of women with mystical powers, but all of them have different powers. A lot of humans consider them to be witches. They all live together under very sparse conditions and are contracted out to the government for certain jobs, like looking for a serial killer for the police department. The Sibile society is very strict and unforgiving and Jade has always been considered to be an abomination because she is a half-breed and her powers are erratic.

Jade sees signatures as beacons of light and color that she can follow. Everyone's signature is its own unique ribbon of light. One of the most creative aspects of this book was simply so beautiful. When Pale finally accepts Jade as a wolf, his signature starts to wrap around her like a caress- such beautiful imagery to show his feelings that are starting to grow for her. She can also harness light into energy and physical objects as well as use her powers for healing. This job to track the Woodsman is the first time that she's been able to leave the Sibile compound since she came there as a child.

Jade & Pale have such a complex dynamic in this book. Pale hates and mistrusts the Sibile, but Jade has just gone into heat, so he is having a really hard time maintaining his distance from her. He also has to protect her from any other wolf shifters that they come across because they find it almost impossible to resist the allure of a female wolf in heat. It's simply a matter of nature. At the same time, they are having to hunt a killer who's very signature poses a danger to Jade. Everything is working against Pale and his natural instinct to protect and shelter Jade.

It was just a really wonderful and well-written book. Jade has had to deny her wolf side her entire life- the Sibile have insisted on it. This has made her incredibly strong, but the more that she is around Pale, the more her wolf comes out. She's extremely powerful, but knows nothing about her wolf side which is frustrating for both her and Pale. He simply can't understand how she can be so ignorant about that side of her psyche and is constantly harassing her about it. As an alpha, Pale is not the most patient guy around.

They make a great team and the sexual tension is sizzling from the moment that they walk into the same room together. It makes for a really hot book. The suspense story was fabulous too. I did not see the twists and turns coming and absolutely loved how Dee kept the action and suspense going. Just an all-around great book. It's going to be a fabulous series!!

Carina Press has a real winner with Tenorio’s Tempting the Enemy. Pale is a homicide detective working on a series killer case that has taken a turn for the worse. The city fears that the problem cannot be solved by their finest, so they bring in a Sibile, a kind of witch, to help bring the murder to justice. As Pale has been working on both the human killings, and the un-reported wolf killings, as the Alpha, he has double the interest in solving the case quickly. When he meets his Sibile Jade, events take another unexpected turn when he realized she is part wolf, and full in heat.

Jade and Pale do their best to work together, each keeping secrets from the other, to track down the killer. While Jade refuses to reveal Sibile secrets, she does let pale into her world more and more as they find out additional information regarding the elusive killer. While she is reluctant to give up general Sibile information, she finds herself revealing more and more about herself, her past, and her attraction to him grows and festers with each waking moment.

Pale also has secrets, the biggest being his super secret Alpha status, and his struggle to create a safe haven for wolf shifters across the country that are still being persecuted by the humans. The second biggest secret is the fact that his serial killer is also hunting young wolves who are making their way to his sanctuary. Pale keeps this information to himself, refusing to share the additional information with the human police.

I really enjoyed this book. I feel like I must create a new genre for it: Paranormal Romance Suspect Awesomesauce! Tenorio kept me guessing at every turn, and as someone who usually can tell by the middle of a book who the bad guy was, I was surprised at how well she was able to twist and turn the plot to constantly keep me guessing. Those of you who are big JD Robb fans, this book is defiantly one that you should check out!

The complicated world of the Sibile was confusing at times, and I personally would have liked a little more back story and information, but I was still able to grasp everything. Jade was a great tortured female lead, her back story broke my heart a little, while you can’t help but admire everything she has become. The revelation about her powers towards the end surprised me a little, but in a good way.

Pale (an odd name that had me continuing to envision him as an albino) lived up to all my alpha male expectations. He was pushy, protective, arrogant, and all around awesome! While we didn’t learn his exact reasons for dreaming of building a wolf sanctuary, they became somewhat implied throughout.

I hope that Tenorio has additional books planned to continue on with this story, because I felt as if a lot was left open. What will happen with the Sibile’s now that they have learned the human are tracking them like they used to track the wolves? Will Pale and Jade be able to build up the wolf sanctuary and continue to do great things for the shifters? I can only hope there will be additional books to continue on with these characters.

All in all, I give Tempting the Enemy 4 out of 5 wolf sanctuaries!

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-r...

Detective Pale Rysen knows what it’s like to be hunted. That’s why he, the Alpha Wolf, has dedicated his life to protecting and rescuing others. But when a serial killer known as the Woodsman starts targeting young women, Pale fears even he won’t be able to discover the madman’s identity. That doesn’t mean that he wants to work with a hated Sibile, however. Yet Jade-Scarlet isn’t what he expected; for one thing, she’s half Wolf. For another, she’s in Heat and Pale is irresistibly attracted to her…

Jade-Scarlet has always felt like a bit of an outsider. Her powers aren’t as strong as the Order would like, but when her mentor has a vision that Jade must work with Pale, she is assigned to the Woodsman case. The case will test Jade’s ability and the danger surrounding her multiplies when her Wolf nature threatens to overtake her Sibile side. Even more explosive is the passion that threatens to burst between Jade and Pale. Can Jade reconcile her dual nature? Even if she can, is a future possible for Jade and Pale when he considers any Sibile to be his enemy?

Enter a world unlike any you’ve seen before in the intriguing Tempting the Enemy. I started reading Dee Tenorio’s books this year and have been busy glomming up her backlist. Having read almost everything Ms. Tenorio’s written, I can safely say that Tempting the Enemy is a departure from her usual style and shows how versatile Ms. Tenorio can be. Temping the Enemy is packed with action, danger, and shadowed with menace in the form of the Woodsman. Ms. Tenorio doesn’t hold back, and the trials Jade and Pale face in hunting down a psychopath make Tempting the Enemy all the more powerful. The two protagonists are more than up to the task. Jade and Pale both have complementing strengths, which make them a perfect match. Each has their own demons to face too, though I won’t spoil the book by revealing what they are.

Tempting the Enemy opens up a world fraught with peril and though Pale and Jade find happiness, it seems (to me at least) that Ms. Tenorio has left more obstacles in place that could be the basis for future books. I’ll leave with saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Temping the Enemy. It’s original, sensual, and fascinating – what more can you ask for?

Detective Pale Rysen, is an Alpha,he is determined to secretly rebuild the Wolf packs from the ashes of genocide. When a killer starts picking off young females that are looking for sanctuary, it's Pale Rysen's job to protect them. Rysen is forced to work with a hated enemy, he fears his cover will be blown.
Jade-Scarlet's membership in the powerful Order of the Sibile has always been controversial. Jade is half wolf and has unstable psychic powers that are a disappointment to her mercenary handlers. So when the Oracle commands her to work with Pale, Jade has a chance to prove herself and prove herself she must!...even if it means challenging the enigmatic shifter who is Pale Rysen.
However Pale triggers more than Jade's curiosity. He sends her into Heat, and the intense sexual attraction could mean losing control of her gifts—something Jade cannot allow. As the number of victims rises, so does the danger. A murderous darkness wants them both dead. But even if they stop the killer, how long can they fight against each other?

For some reason I had in my head that this series of books by Dee were actually YA and I got a little surprised at the first er.."steamy" descriptions, but have to say this book is really very good. The steamy sections are not overly done or out of place, I would say they are tastefully steamy. I love the characters of Pale and Jade-Scarlett. They initially have a strong mutual distrust of each other yet are also strongly attracted to one another. I love that Jade-Scarlett is a strong female character who stands her ground and is willing to face whatever and whomever she must to complete her assignment
This is a great start to what seems to me to be another great shifter series comparable to the Rachel Vincent series "Shifters" and also I found Dee's writing as captivating as Kelley Armstrong's "Women of the Otherworld" Series. I would certainly recommend this book and am seriously looking forward to reading book 2 in the series which is called Deceiving the Protector. A definite "I recommend to read" I also have to add I love the cover, I presume it is a picture of Jade-Scarlett. Her eyes draw you into wanting to know more about her too, and of course wanting to read the book. I think a cover is the first thing that catches your attention with a book.

Tempting the Enemy by Dee Tenorio
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Tempting the enemy by Dee Tenorio was a smart, sexy book. Even with the intrigue of the Woodsman killings, the scenes between Pale and Jade were HOT!

The police department called in a Sibile to help them solve the Woodsman killings. Pale is not comfortable with this decision but has resigned himself to work with her, until he realizes that she is also an unmated wolf in heat. This fact adds to the danger Jade will face.

Jade has been commanded to help the police find out who the Woodsman is. She feels the heat flair the minute she spots Pale but knows that she can’t give in or her gifts will be uncontrollable. She is drawn to him though and she can’t help it.

Throughout the story not only are they trying to find out who is killing these women but they are also trying to keep her safe from the unmated wolves. At one point, Pale has to fight several wolves at once to save her.

The scenes between Pale and Jade are well written. I love the fact that he wants her but knows that she is not ready so he takes his time with her. There are several teaser scenes that lead to the ultimate end where she gives herself to him.

I loved the build up and suspense of this story. There are several stories going on at once and all are equally important. The Woodsman is killing women and leaving their limbs stacked like firewood around town, now he is also killing wolves trying to reach sanctuary. You have the heat between Pale and Jade building up and there is also the story behind the Sibile.

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The ending surprised me and left me hoping that this is only the first book in a new series. It was written where a sequel is possible. I want to know what the future will bring to the Sibile and if Jalla’s prophecy comes true. I also want to know what the future holds for Pale and Jade.

I give this book 4 Flaming Hearts.

A very interesting take on a paranormal romance and a story that I found difficult to get into at the start. Maybe it was because I wasn't quite sure what a Sibile was and therefore couldn't see where the storyline was going. The suspense aspect of the story had me enthralled from the start and unusually for me, I wasn't able to predict who the killer was and didn't even come close!

Jade-Scarlet is an orphan and mixed, her parents being a Sibile and a werewolf. Pale is not only a werewolf but an Alpha werewolf. Humans have declared war on shifters and have almost wiped out the werewolf population. Wolves no longer live in packs and go to great lengths to hide their true identities. Sibiles are women with paranormal powers who live separately from humans in enclaves. Theirs is a matriarchal society and the only sibiles permitted to leave the enclave are the ones ranked as Scarlets and Rouges and they are only permitted to leave when their skills have been hired by the government.

Moonridge has a serial killer that has left the police perplexed. The only information they have is that all the victims are women and the killer is most likely a man. The killer leaves no clues are the dump sites, not even a scent for Pale to track. Enter Jade, who is brought in to offer her own unique skills. Jade is embarrassed by her wolf lineage and is somewhat ignorant in the ways of the wolf. Unbeknown to her, she is in heat when she arrives at the police station which causes all sorts of problems with Pale. After sharing their intense dislike for each other, they learn that they have to learn to trust each other and eventually their lives will depend on it.

The style of writing and editing were great for an ebook and I thoroughly enjoyed the story once I got into it. There were surprises along the way and although there weren't any loose ends at the end, it was somehow left open should the author wish to write a sequel. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense with a bit of romance thrown in!

Tempting the Enemy delivers exactly what the blurb promises: steamy paranormal romance with a dose of dark, creepy mystery.

Rysen is the requisite hunky-alpha-male, and Jade the expected counterpart – sexually inexperienced, not fully in control of her abilities, and determined not to give in to Rysen’s demands. While neither character made a huge impression on me individually, I did enjoy the two of them together. The interaction was lively, and I loved some of their conversations:

“I told you I can’t.”
“But if you did…” He traced designs on her bare shoulder. “Just imagine the possibilities.”
“Oh? Like what? Arguing in parking lots and rolling around in the snow?”
"Like all the hot chocolate you can drink. Being with someone who understands all those things about yourself you pretend aren’t there.”

*sigh* How can you not like an alpha wolf with a (deeply hidden) sensitive side?

My biggest issue with the story was the whole concept of Heat. It’s just so…animalistic. I don’t like the idea of a woman being victimized by her own body, which is more or less what happens if hormones are making her want things she wouldn’t otherwise. What saved the story, for me, was that despite the trippy hormones attacking both Rysen and Jade, they don’t just fall instantly into bed. They put up a struggle, and both have some issues to work out before they can be together.

What made this story unique was that it felt like contemporary romantic suspense (with werewolves), and not just urban fantasy with some extra lovin’. The police investigation adds intrigue, and the villain is despicable enough to make you shudder – think Syler from Heroes – and must be dealt with before the couple can enjoy their happily-ever-after.

If you like Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changling books, Alpha-Cop-Werewolves, or Chicks-With-Psychic-Gifts, this is the story for you.

3.5/4 stars

I really enjoyed this one. I hadn't really expected much from it, especially as it is another story with shifters and matebonds and stuff which I am not keen on. But it was well done and the heroine was a strong and likeable character to counterbalance the Wolfie stuff. I even felt that despite the short time span, the relationship between the H/h was pretty realistic for the situation they both found themselves in and their natures as shifter/half-shifter. Oh and the sex scenes were HOT! :)

The main plot of the story was intriguing and made sure that most of the story didn't revolve around wolf politics at all. The villain was suitably horrid and you didn't really work out who/what the villain was until quite far in.

I enjoyed the world created and the political situation with the humans/shifters/sibiles. The secretive world of the sibiles had just enough explained to be interesting and give enough detail to the story, but there was a whole lot left that could be explored in future stories.

The only downside was that it was VERY reminiscent of Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series. I loved Slave to Sensation when I read it a couple of years ago and although I can't remember it in detail, when I started reading Tempting the Enemy, there were still a lot of similarities with the characters and the plot. This didn't detract from my enjoyment really, but you wouldn't want to read them close together.

This was my first read by Dee Tenorio and I was pleasantly surprised with it. If I have to chose one thing that I like about this book, it would be Pale.

Pale is a true alpha male. I loved the fact that he acted the part, but didn't broadcast it to everyone and expect them to bow down to him. And while you could tell that his temper was always thin as wind, he always managed to keep himself in check. He especially kept himself together when dealing with his Jade.

Jade was a likeable character. She was a strong woman and could hold her own if she needed to. She did have periods where I wanted to smack her. I mean who complains when they've got someone as hot as Pale all but drooling over them? No one.

The fact that those two were made for each other is an understatement. They are both from different walks of life, but they still seemed to fit together perfectly as if nothing else mattered.

At times it was so frustrating to see them fight their attraction tooth and nail, but in the end, they more than made up for it.

I also liked the mystery that was presented in this book. The killer's identity was a wonderful twist. I thought I saw the killer' identity a mile away, but was totally wrong. I love it when an author keeps you guessing.

I was strongly reminded of the Psy/Changeling series, one of my favourites, by Nalini Singh especially the first book Slave to Sensation, when reading Tempting the Enemy. The Sibile are comparable to the Psy, they believe themselves to be the superior race with incredible psychic abilities and look down on humans and shifters who in this have been hunted by humans almost to extinction.

At the beginning I was worried this was going to be love at first sight, or in this case scent but I was wrong. It's lust at first sight mostly due to Jade going into heat in Pale's presence but luckily for her he was a gentlemen and could control his urges around her unlike others who wouldn't hesitate to rape her, but it turns into a slow seduction instead as Pale and Jade work together to catch a savage and elusive serial killer.

I really enjoyed this and I'm hungry for more. I want to follow the new pack's progress and watch the forthcoming attack and subsequent human war on the Sebile, I only hope Jalla and Sage survive that conflict. Sequel please? Pretty please?

Really pleasantly surprised by this book - it only cost a couple of quid on amazon (kindle edition) and the cover looks a bit selfpublish-ey so I wasn't expecting much.

Very glad I bothered, the author was straight into the sexual-tension-caused-by-irresistable-scents thing which is one of my favourite aspects of the shifter trope. So good start, followed by a good book. Liked the general world it was set in, the author has obviously put some thought into it and I particularly liked the idea of the Underground.

As a note, while it did pop up here and there, the dominant alpha thing wasn't too overplayed, thank Christ .

I am very much hoping that the author continues to write but the fact the second book in the series (which I also read last night cause I have zero impulse control and who needs to go to sleep before 6am anyway) was published in 2011 makes me less than optimistic.

I really loved this one. Dee put the main characters, Pale and Jade, on a journey where they both grew and changed to be who they were meant to be. They battled each other throughout it because they each had it this notion set in their head on what they thought they were and not willingly to explore the possibility that they could be more.

I liked the way they worked on an investigation finding a serial murderer that brought them together. I did not see who the murderer was and until Jade found out and it was very interesting choice. I liked it as horrible as it is. They both have a purposeful future where they need each other to fulfill. I like that they were both had so much pride in the begin of the strong and slowly picked at one another until they realized they could be really truly happy if they just learned to trust in the other.

I would love for there to be a sequel with these two but if not I am still happy with the story. Pale and Jade are a good pair.

Detective Pale Rysin is a werewolf, the leader of his pack. Jade-Scarlett is a member of the powerful order of the Sibile (women with strange magical powers), but she is also half-wolf. When she is sent to help Detective Rysin investigate the murders of several young women, sparks fly...in more than one way.

There is an instant attraction between the two, but their worlds have been taught to hate each other for years. Will they be able to overcome their prejudices and work together to solve the murders, or will their differences and desires to work alone hinder them leading to only more grisly deaths.

I loved this book. The characters were forced to evolve as they learned more about each other and the history that taught them to hate. The interactions between them a perfect and drive the story forward even as the events around them shape who they are becoming.

i won this book in a contest and i was asked to give a review if i felt like i wanted to. i truly enjoyed the book the hero and heroine were both intriguing and complex and pulled me right into the story.
i also enjoyed the fact that even with Pale being an alpha he could not intimidate Jade and she gave as good as she got.
the plot was also very good as it was not one of those that you had figured out 5 minutes into the book but it kept me guessing right up to the last pages.
i would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a paranormal genre or even someone looking for something different from their everday reads. they won't be disappointed.

I've been in a bit of a reading funk so it took me a few days to get through this. I really enjoyed it though!

When hunting a serial killer Detective Pale Rysen calls in outside help from the Order of the Sibile, when Jade arrives she is not what he expected! Jade is an anomaly which should not exist - half wolf, half sibile her wolf half calls to the Alpha in Pale. When she goes into heat can he protect her from challenging males while staying on the track of a killer and fight his own growing desires for someone he has been taught to hate? For the Sibile race are responsible for the torture and slaughter of countless wolves.

3.5 stars for me. I would have preferred a little more world-building/explanation. I found the wolf-mating details to be pretty interesting and I do feel like this series delves into the pack and mate bond in a way that feels different that everything I've read before. I have to say, I felt like the Jade-being-in-heat part was a bit much to take after awhile. Also, while I did enjoy her writing style and did not have a problem with the POV changing hands - I do prefer a bit more wit injected into the words. Enjoyable read, though, and I will definitely be continuing in the series.

I was completely drawn in to the characters in this book. It's a world of shifters that doesn't rely on them being shifters to carry the story. The story follows a detective trying to solve a serial murder case. His best chance at solving it is accepting the help of a Sibile - a race of magical beings that he has long despised. The suspense was riveting and the relationship building was perfect. I really hope Dee Tenorio writes at least a sequel!

It’s a hard one to rate for me. There were parts that I found incredibly annoying, but also parts that I loved. The secrets and hints, plus the push/pull btwn the h and H got to be annoying because it went on for so long. However, the world building was really good, and I really enjoyed the ending (even though I didn’t fully understand how it all worked out. The h &H were pretty great once they finally committed to each other.
Will definitely read the next in the series.
