I’m actually glad I waited a little before I wrote this review, because now I can say this is the sequel to the book PRESSURE by BRAM STOKER AWARD WINNING AUTHOR Jeff Strand!
I have never made a secret of the fact that I am a huge fan of this writer. I absolutely loves the way he can bring humor to stories that are still considered splatterpunk and extreme horror. And the win is a validation that is long overdue.
So now that I got that fangirling out of the way, back to the story at hand.
PRESSURE is probably one of his darkest stories. And since I don’t want to give away too much for those who want to (and should) read it, let’s just say Alex Fletcher befriends Darren Rust, who turns out to be a psychotic serial killer – and thinks that Alex might be his soulmate. But, since Alex is just a normal guy, the feeling is not mutual.
And Darren pretty much fucks up his life from there.
In DEATHLESS, Alex is just trying to take it day to day and survive as best he could. And there may be a ray of sunshine heading his way when he meets Luna Booth. She is a spectacular person who is willing to accept him as he is and won’t judge him for his past.
But is she too good to be true?
Get ready for round two…

I have to say, I didn’t think Strand could match the darkness of the first book, but I was wrong. There are two places in this book that goes very fucking dark, where I thought to myself that he was pushing boundaries for the things he would usually write. But that just goes to show how well he writes these characters – you, as the reader, are truly invested in their lives.
Recommended to horror fans who can stomach a really dark story brilliantly written.

Though hesitant, Alex thinks he may be ready to try dating again. Especially after meeting the most interested and beautiful Luna one evening in a crowded bar. She is almost too perfect in every way.
No one could have predicted the twisted horrors this bubbly beauty has planned for her sweet beau...
As if it were possible Jeff Strand upped the stakes even higher. Deathless was an impossible to put down page turner. From start to the very last word this is horror and mayhem at its finest. Highly recommend after reading book one.

I have a confession.
I'm not a fan of sequels.
They're always hugely hyped up...and all too often, hugely disappointing.
That had been my unfortunate experience, at least.
...and then I read Deathless.
The follow-up to one of Jeff's most successful books, Pressure, DEATHLESS is everything you'd want in a sequel...it's action-packed and fast-paced, has a plausible premise that flows beautifully from one book to the next, contains characters you love...and those you love-to-hate, and, despite the extremely dark, grim nature of the story, Jeff's trademark wit and humor shines through time and time again.
I was lucky enough to have read this book months ago, and I'm just going to say it - I liked it better than its predecessor (FYI, PRESSURE was a five-star read for me). There were times throughout this story I was genuinely shocked. That happens to me so rarely these days, it always makes me sit up and take notice. I love when writers are brazen in their storytelling. Jeff certainly was, and it made this book for me.
So, here's what you need to do. If you've read PRESSURE, just wait a few more weeks and, for crying out loud, buy DEATHLESS. The e-book version is available for pre-order now, and paperback copies will be available on November 30, 2021. If you haven't read PRESSURE...please do. It's so very good. In fact, I bet you'll rate it five stars. I can pretty much guarantee, though, once you've read DEATHLESS, you'll be cursing the antiquated five-star system, and wishing it went to ten.

‘Pressure’ is a book that gets mentioned a great deal when discussing fans favourite Jeff Strand book. For me, it is second only to ‘Dweller’ in my own personal rankings, and that is saying a great deal about an author with over fifty books published to date. Fifteen years later, we get an unexpected but undeniably welcome sequel to one of Strand’s most memorable and disturbing works in the form of ‘Deathless’.
Picking up years after the events of ‘Pressure’, Darren Rust is serving a life sentence and Alex is still trying to piece together what is left of his life, a task made all the more difficult by the media furore that still remains around Darren’s infamous exploits, culminating in an upcoming documentary about the case.
Alex just wants to forget and move on. When he meets Luna unexpectedly at a bar, things finally seem to be taking a turn for the better and he begins to believe that he is finally back on the road to genuine happiness. When the relationship begins to sour and Luna’s behaviour begins to grow increasingly concerning, Alex begins to suspect that there may be a dark secret that she is keeping from him; one that is linked to his tragic past and will make his greatest fears a horrifying reality.
I confess to being a little torn on my reading experience with ‘Deathless’, largely due to how different it is from its predecessor. Where ‘Pressure’ was a taut, well-paced and largely grounded masterwork of tension building, ‘Deathless’ is far broader and more action-packed, bordering on the outlandish. It contains a lot more of the author’s trademark dark humour and witty character dialogue than ‘Pressure’, which was a dark and serious affair. Where ‘Pressure’ kept things low-key, slowly building up the (pardon the phrasing) pressure to unbearable levels, relying on strong character work to create the stakes, ‘Deathless’ is more notable for its big set pieces and over the top characters.
Fans of Strands ‘Andrew Mayhem’ series will get a big kick out of ‘Deathless’, as it reads very much like a spiritual successor to that character and his unique mix of high stakes horror antics with an undercurrent of pitch-black comedy, and although this is a sequel to a different book, it does largely work as a stand-alone piece, as readers are brought up to date on the events of ‘Pressure’ throughout the story without any awkward data dumps or unwieldy exposition. If you are a fan of Strands more comedic work and haven’t read ‘Pressure’, then I can safely recommend giving this one a try regardless.
‘Deathless’ goes in some genuinely unexpected directions when compared to what went before it and your enjoyment of it will largely depend on your expectations. Its tone is markedly different to ‘Pressure’, which was almost unrelentingly grim and went to some very dark places. While ‘Deathless is far from tame, its bleaker moments are tempered somewhat by a more fun and adventurous feel to proceedings and while it may not be quite the sequel I wanted, that takes nothing away from the fact that it is an immensely entertaining and unpredictable story in its own right.

An excellent thrill ride of a sequel to Jeff Strand's excellent PRESSURE. A cult, a beautiful nymphomaniac and a serial killer and the man unwillingly dragged into the mix and struggling for survival. A roller coaster ride of insanity and mayhem. HIGHLY recommended!

Pressure was the first or second book I ever read by Strand about 15 years ago. I fell in love with his work and I've read almost everything he has written ever since. While I enjoyed this, I preferred the first one quite a bit more. It's not to say I didn't enjoy Deathless. From memory the first book was more serious than most of Strands work where as I felt this one had more touches of the humour we find in his later works. It also had a feel of one of Bryan Smith's splatterpunk adventures and while I enjoy those, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for from this book. All in all, it was a quick read and you can't go wrong with Strand but this wasn't one of my favourites of his books.

Ok. This one dropped down the star rating for me as it descended into enough gratuitous full-on blood, guts, and porn to turn your stomach.

Great sequel
This was a great sequel to ‘Pressure’. I haven’t read the original for at least a decade, but it all came back to me in a heartbeat. It is a story that you plow through because it is so entertaining. It’s not my favorite Strand story… that goes to The Wolf Hunt trilogy and The Odds, but this was still a blast. Jeff is a consistent and reliable author. He is also my favorite in the horror-black comedy genre.

I have worked out how to describe Jeff Strand: He is the John Scalzi of horror.
Witty, irreverent and frequently underestimated because of those traits, Strand actually has the ability to genuinely disturb at the same time as he makes you chuckle. What sorcery is this? I don't know, but he managed it beautifully with Pressure and continues to do so in the sequel Deathless.
I won't go into spoilers, but needless to say our protagonist Alex aka the unluckiest bastard in fiction once again steps on a horrific roller coaster. Except on this roller coaster the seats are knives. And the guardrail is nails. And the seatbelts are barbed wire. And the door handles are... um, bees? Look, I don't know, dude's having a bad time, is what I'm saying.
The action veers wildly out of control (much like the appalling analogy in the previous paragraph) and I had some concern the ending wouldn't land, but my friends - it really freaking does. This is a superb sequel to a wonderful novel and is well worth your time.

Elizabeth and I started 2022 with Jeff Strand. Come to think of it… I think I ended 2021 with Strand 🤔.
I have already said this but I will say it again. Nobody does horror and comedy like Strand. “Deathless had classic comedic moments thrown into the horror and gore.
“Deathless”, the sequel to “Pressure”, picks up where “Pressure” leaves off so a synopsis would be a spoiler. The book opens with Alex, the main chracter, coping with life after tragedy. In the beginning of the book, Stradn flawlessly used Alex’s inner monologue and conversation to recap most of book one. This recap felt like part of the story and not an information dump.
“Deathless” was a non-stop ride. Everytime thought that things could not get worse for Alex, Stradn proved me wrong. This book moves at an extremly fast pace from start to finish with plenty of action.
If you have not read any books by Jeff Strand, a good place to start would be “Pressure” or “Dweller”.

Sometimes I get Leary when there is a sequel to an amazing book. Part of me wants to read it because the original was such a great book, but part of me doesn’t want to read it because I’m normally let down. This was a fantastic sequel to one of Strands darker books I’ve read called Pressure. With Darren in prison, Alex is just trying his best to make it through life even though the things in his past still haunt him. He meets a girl named Luna and has another chance at a relationship until he finds out that she isn’t the person she has made herself out to be. Once he finds out all he’ll breaks loose and his past starts catching up to him. Great sequel to an awesome book. If you liked Pressure, you will love this continuation of Alex’s story.

Pressure + True crime junkie + Gone To See The River Man = Deathless. This starts out feeling a lot like Pressure and I was a little bummed out. As much as I like book one I didn’t want to just relive it. Things quickly change and new elements are added to make a fun and cringeworthy read.

I love reading Jeff Strand books. This one follows on from Pressure, which is one of my favourites. It also reminded me of his Andrew Mayhem books too.
As usual we have an excellent, light hearted, humorous writing style with a dark edge and some excellent natural dialogue which he does so well.
This isn’t really anything new, it is what I have come to expect from the author and he does it so well so I’m not complaining.
As expected we have some really weird goings on, and we have an unconventional hero (and an unwilling one at that), who is stuck in a nightmare scenario which just keeps getting crazier and yet throughout it all he keeps his wisecracking personality alive and kicking.
This was a great story, so much fun. The ideas are so ridiculous I wonder how he comes up with them and I have no idea how it is going to pan out at any point. It’s quite a wild ride.
If you like your horror full of adventure and fun and games then this is for you. There is some gore but that’s not the focus. It’s really good fun, easy reading, which might make you chuckle. Complete madness.

Nobody does horror comedy like Jeff Strand and this book was no exception. While trying to recover from the events in Pressure Alex gets pulled into more chaos of Darren's wake in multiple ways.
Parts of the story reminded me a lot of Last Days in a very good way.

A fantastic follow up that picks up where Pressure left off. Strand once again weaves the perfect balance of dread and humor in this story of Alex's life after Darren's incarceration and how he continues to haunt his life.

I just finished Deathless by Jeff Strand. Having just read Pressure last month, I was stoked to find out that this sequel was coming out. This book didn’t disappoint. It ups the ante as the protagonist, Alex, faces off against the ruthless minions of his nemesis from the first novel. The suspense is nonstop, the pacing is furious, and the wit is razor sharp. I suggest that you don’t start reading this unless you are sure you won’t be interrupted, because you won’t want to put it down!

Loved it!
I read the first book so long ago but as soon as I started reading this it all came back. Poor Alex, he really went through he'll in both books. I really hate Luna what a psycho bitch! Every time I thought things were going to get better you get smacked in the face with more crazy bad stuff!

Another action-packed, slice and dice, foray into the lives of Darren Rust and those caught in his evil orbit. This one definitely doesn't massacre Pressure, but that is no small feat, and Deathless is awesome for all its own reasons, with just enough callback to pt 1 to fill in the casual reader on the previous calamaties Alex endured.

Like no other author
Normally if I saw a review of a horror story with humor I would pass it by. Jeff Strand is fantastic. This book has it all, gore, laughs, plot twists, sex. It reminds me of a Richard Laymon novel.

Excellent sequel to Pressure. Just as good as the first. Really suspenseful, good story, funny dialog, and pretty messed up.

Absolutely gripping from start to finish. Second book in this series and a must read. Jeff Strand is a future legend!
