To a man who has it all, what is more thrilling than a game of fate?
That is until he starts falling in love with the wife he never wanted.

But winning?
Oh, winning will absolutely destroy him.

“I want you to look at your scars and know they were worth it. And I will look at mine and bear the pain, because eventually, it all led me to you.”
The Diamond King is a steamy Victorian romance slightly inspired by the Great Gatsby and Peaky Blinders and it tells of an innocent love that withstood cruelty and bloodshed.
But it all begins with a forced marriage between Grace Sommerville, the most celebrated pianist in London and Drasko Mawr, known as the Diamond King and the richest man in London.
Unbeknownst to Grace, Drasko has been watching her from afar for years, and he is absolutely enchanted by her and her music. However, this wasn't a marriage of choice to Grace so she set her mind to rebel and get herself out of it—but there is a plan executed by a heartless man and both Grace and Drasko are nothing but mere pawns in it.
There are many parts I can't mention as I think they'll spoil the book for the readers, but expect steamy and angsty moments for those two! and living in close quarters does heat things up quickly *iykyk*.
What you can expect?
— Forced Marriage — 10-year age gap — Scarred Hero — Mafia vibes — Angst — Spicy (2/5)
Content warnings: there are some dark themes and expect mentions of abandonment, death, child abuse, violence.
When I say I love Romance, this is exactly what I'm talking about...TDK introduced me to a world that had so many layers and flavors carefully placed, that had me so engrossed I actually forgot my reality while chasing these pages down.
In my personal opinion, this was an absolute masterpiece. Taking place in both 1800's London and India (it is a dual timeline), this story begins with Drasko Mawr, a man set on a path that will challenge him in the most unexpected of ways. On this path, he plucks Grace, a woman who is a pianist prodigy, from her caged life...only it's not clear whether she was taken from one cage just to be contained in another. I am not going to hint towards anything to make sure that I don't take away from any readers experience. So, I will suffice by saying that the intent of the Author is clear. The way that all the pieces are placed in this world made the crescendo well timed! I can and will reread this book and couldn't be happier with my reading experience.
The slow burn and delicate way in which the Romance develops is a sight for sore eyes. When I speak to my friends of Vlad Kahany, I like to say that the way the Romance is written is like love from another time; that unfortunately is pretty close to being extinct in current times. The Romance is handled with delicacy, as if it is something to be worshipped, treasured, preserved...and just recognized as a gift that the character's truly value. TDK had me in a cloud of bliss! There are so many scenes that are going to be on replay in my mind. The way that Drasko (MMC) is in this book???
One of my favorite things to read is when Character's "fill each others cups"/"add flames to their existing fire, to ensure their light doesn't extinguish". I think the Dual timeline was delivered with such finesse. I loved learning more and more with each new chapter. I was surprised with some of the twists that popped up and was so comfortable with the pacing of the book, I probably could have read 1000 pages of this particular story.
This book has me so excited for what else is in store for this world, what other roads that Kahany may take with this. The Diamond King: A Tale of Love, Hate, and Diamonds is among my top reads of 2024 and I would recommend this to every single friend of mine or reader in general that simply loves Romance in their books.

LISTEN.
READ THIS FUCKING BOOK.
You will cry, laugh, kick your feed, giggle, swoon, gasp and rage. Your heart will melt, for sadness, torment, for happiness and contempt.
We're barely at the beginning of March and I already can say that this one is gonna be the best book I'll read this year.
This is a wonderful captivating story! Didn’t expet that at all. Really enjoyed the plot twists, Victorian era world building and how the relationship evolved between main characters. I was pleasantly surprised and really recommend this book!
“The biggest strength is not wearing a mask for others and putting on a show. The biggest strength is having the courage to see oneself for who one is, show it to others, and be able to carry on with one's chin lifted high."
Rating: 4/5 POV: 1st; Dual Tropes: Arranged Marriage; Slow Burn; Virgin FMC; Age Gap (9 years); Historical Romance - late 1800s; Dual Timeline; No 3rd Act Breakup Heat Level: 4.5/5 Kinks: N/A
Likes: * The MMC. He's such a beautiful tortured soul and he is the reason I kept reading this 500 page book * I enjoyed the double timeline. We get the back story of how our MMC came to be who he is and how "the game" has come to be and then we have the present time timeline which is in the 1890s in London. * The book really does give a little Peaky Blinders feel and I could not help but imagine beautiful Cillian Murphy as the MMC even though he looks nothing like how the MMC is described LOL
* The book actually has a bit of a suspenseful/mystery aspect to it and in the last 20% my jaw actually did drop open a few times. There are some good shocking moments. There's also a lot of easter eggs so your mind really doesn't figure out the big reveals.
Dislikes: * The length. It really was too long which is why this was 4 stars for me. There is a lot of descriptive imagery which could've gone without to probably make this 100 pages shorter.
Conclusion: What a lovely historical romance set in a not as common time period of the 1890s. The setting is surrounded around an extremely wealthy, if not the wealthiest person in London, Diamond Minor Drusko. We get his back story of how he grows to be who he is, how he gets in the mining business, in some really well done double timelines.
In the present timeline he forces an arranged marriage with our FMC, Grace. She's a music prodigy, writing her own music, singing, and one of the best piano players of the time.
There is a lot of animosity between the MCs but quickly small things get revealed and they both slowly start to lower their guards. Their romance is really beautiful to read.
I mean it was good but I wish it was first person. They had their own povs but it wasn’t first person. This book also took place in the late 1800s and they talked kinda like caveman. I didn’t expect the plot twists that happened, but I will say I knew who she was right away.
~♦︎~ When I first read this book I didn’t know how to express my feelings about it so I just wrote nonsense and dramatic things like ( omg this book is so good omg and OMG) when in fact this book has so many beautiful words in it that I want to tattoo them on my skin and i don’t even have any tattoos for real! Drasko and Grace and especially Drasko I was so amazed by him and the author himself too like he’s described the FMC so beautifully so nicely I didn’t want to stop reading about it I’m really amazed by his writing and wording. (to be fair he’s the only male author I read and have loved his stories very much)
It’s been seven months since I read the ARC copy (all thanks to dear author) and I’m still not over this book I keep thinking about the characters and I don’t think of a book so often unless it’s written so beautifully. Unless it’s The Diamond King ,why is this book not popular yet? I want everyone to read this masterpiece.
⌞𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞⌝ they own my whole heart ♥︎ they have the most beautiful love story ever, their story is so emotional, deep heartwarming and so heart aching sometimes my heart breaks for them like can’t they finally be happy? They went through a lot and that was just so sad :( emptiness is what I felt after being done with this book I might have been done with it physically but mentally? never.
~♦︎~ -𝔇𝔯𝔞𝔰𝔨𝔬 𝔐𝔞𝔴𝔯 💎 Drasko is officially one of my all the time favorite MMCs he’s one of the best book husbands ever. Him calling his wife “𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈” is one of many reasons why I love him so much. my gosh! he’s so husband material 🥀
“𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇? 𝑶𝒓 𝒅𝒐 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒑𝒚?” 𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑏𝑜𝑦𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝑠𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑜𝑛 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒. I feel like he really enjoyed his wife spying on him ;)
Him telling everyone that his wife is a “𝑷𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕” was so adorable! ♡ my man is a goner for his wife ♥️ And Jealous Drasko was something else my goodness! I wish there were more scenes of him being Jealous of any man being in his wife’s company I giggled a lot reading those jealousy scenes 🤭🫶🏻
-Him going through fire just to save his wife, him being ready to die just so his wife could live, him going through hell just to keep her by his side and protect her from their cruel world. “𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞, 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐈’𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.” Oh! Drasko 😭

~♦︎~ 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌? Everything, it’s perfect there’s nothing I don’t love about this book. What I love a lot are the tropes:
> Forced marriage > Victorian romance > Age gap (10 years) > He fell first and hard > Angst > Billionaire romance > “Touch her and I’ll destroy this city” > Mafia Vibes > slow burn
What make this book so special to me is that it’s a slow burn, the slow burn makes the book more enjoyable and more memorable. I don’t like it when things happen fast let the characters meet first and my dear! This book is so good it was worth the wait and worth reading.
-I don’t think I will ever get over this book my favorite read of the year, I don’t need to read more books to know if this really is the one long before it was released I knew that it’ll become my favorite read of the year nothing will change my mind about this book. ⭐️ ~♦︎~ I remember some of my favorite characters like 25,30,31,37,48 ,49 and more I have memorized every word and every sentence in this book ~ ♡🎶🥀
Characters 5/5 Plot 5/5 Victorian setting (world building) 5/5 Genres: Historical romance, mystery Pace 5/5 2 POVs (mmc & fmc) in third person Themes: Arranged marriage, gangster style, family business, forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, touch her & d**, billionaire husband, fluff & angsty, side character deaths, Hindu religion beliefs and culture, he falls first. Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Top tier read, as a standalone, there was a lot included that made sense and the structure of the plot was amazingly written - couldn't ask for more or less. Very satisfied, definitely with twists and turns. Not to mention the longing of the mmc for the fmc making it an angsty read with plenty of fluffy moments.
Um, this was so good???? I expected nothing going into this but the peaky blinders/great gatsby comparison + a mysterious game/quest, diamond mining, and a forced marriage had me instantly downloading this.
What can I even say - we begin with a note and a bride whisked away on her wedding day to marry another. And the pace doesn't stop from that point on. Drasko is our MMC. A former street child thieving to survive who is raised to be a diamond heir based on a bet between brothers. Grace, our FMC, is a concert pianist raised by unfeeling guardians after her parents passed away. Their lives converge when even the grave cannot contain an old man's bitterness.
It's lovely. I could barely put it this down. It's part historical romance, part billionare/mafia romance, and a whole lot of mystery and wondering what's happening and how everything is connected. Grace and Drasko are so perfect together, and the slow burn is amazing. I wanted to shout at both of them so many times, but they eventually make things right.
The ending is so satisfying, with everything tied together perfectly. Yes, a lot was predictable, but there were pieces that I didn't think needed to be tied together. One other slight complaint - this did feel a bit long. Some parts felt a bit stale and repetitive, but it didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Thanks to the author for providing this arc. I have to admit I was quite excited at the beginning with this story and how it unfolded. However there were some parts that made me a bit uncomfortable (Drasko's history and "tragedy") and it became quite cliché towards the end. Drasko was quite childish and undecisive in his love for Grace (He promises he won't leave her and her bed and in the next chapter he does just that) I did not like that Grace turned out to be the little girl from Drasko's past and that Uriah was alive or the fact that he put the red diamond inside of her..that was stretched and did not make any sense.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The Diamond King is a story of two people who have long been at the mercy of others' - even when they should be free, they find themselves dancing to a tune not of their choosing, and when they first are thrown together in a forced marriage, sparks fly.
Drasko Mawr went from a street rat to the king of diamonds, but he finds that he must complete six tasks or lose everything. Grace Somerville, famous virtuoso, is ready to escape the clutches of her guardians, only to end up becoming the new Mrs. Mawr.
Drasko has long admired Grace for her talent and beauty, but now that she is his reluctant wife, he finds himself at a loss. It is lovely to see these two damaged people slowly begin to trust the other, each tender moment building on past history to bring their relationship to a place of trust, and more.
Vlad Kahany's Flowers for the Devil is one of my favorite romances, and The Diamond King is just as good, I love the romantic mood that is woven and the grittiness of life in the Victorian era and in India, as we follow Grace and Drasko's story.
Wow! I was absolutely blown away by this story. Drasko is a nine year old homeless child, adopted by two brothers known as the Diamond Kings. Raised to follow in their footsteps, we are taken on his journey, experiencing his love and hate, his anger and joys, his relationships and traumas that molded him into who he is today. He is playing a deadly game with the last dead brother, six letters that Drasko needs to fulfill, and they could very well cost him his life. I was absolutely engrossed in this story, it was haunting and spellbinding, weaving a story that leaves you wanting more. The writing style and descriptions are such that even something like smoking was written in a way that sounded absolutely sexy and sensual. I feel like I would have given this book 10 stars if I could, it is definitely on my reread list.
Poetic Suspenseful Genius. I could just give my review as that. Kahany is a fabulous talent. I stumbled upon a novel called 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻𝓼 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓓𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓵 by V. Kahany over a year ago just by perusing KU options and deeply fell in love. I’m normally not a historical romance reader, as other historical romances aren’t Kahany. There’s just something about this writing. The author weaves a moody dark feel with poetically romantic longing and ties it together with crime and danger so perfectly that it winds up feeling like its own unique genre.
I was so excited to receive this ARC for 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓓𝓲𝓪𝓶𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓚𝓲𝓷𝓰 and devoured it in three days. Drasko and Grace were a memorable lesson in fate. Not only were both characters superbly developed, their story unfolded in a manner that made you feel like you were immersed in a movie, the kind that carries you off to another world and easily makes you forget your own. The thing I enjoy about the Victorian age in romance in this author’s books is how robust the dialogue is, as well as the depth of love that, I’m sad to say in this superficial era, can only recreate through a faded palate. Was love deeper back then? More encompassing? More romantic? Probably not. But Kahany will convince you otherwise.
Not a bad read, but not as good as I expected. I wanted to be in love with the story the way so many did. There were quite a few issues for me. One of the biggest is that the POVs were not written in 1st person. For the style of the story, it would have made it so much better. I think that's the reason I couldn't get into it. The plot twists I saw coming a mile away. I knew exactly who Grace really was. I knew the truth about Uriah. It just wasn't surprising. Again, it left me feeling very meh. I did like Grace's character, but Drasko left a lot to be desired. His character at first wasn't bad, but as it went on, the way he treated grace and others just ugh. He was so indecisive when it came to grace and it just irritated the heck out of me. The premise and the cover are to die for!
“We all have something to make others happy. What do I have, Grace?” he murmured against her skin. “What do I have to make you happy? We might be in for a long ride. And I always make sure the people who matter to me are happy.”
“The ones who matter…” she echoed.
“Yes,” he breathed against her skin. “I’d like to make you happy, so you don’t feel like this marriage is your worst misery.”
😍😍😍 my heart!!!!!
[📚 REVIEW] The Diamond King - 4🌟
💎 forced marriage 💎 age gap 💎 angst and spice 💎 Victorian setting 💎 billionaire romance 💎 scarred hero
V. Kahany’s Flowers for the Devil was one of my top reads last year so I was super excited when I got an ARC for The Diamond King. ✨
Kahany writes the best MMC and this book did not disappoint. Drasko is it! I really loved his character. He went through so much, was brought up to be cruel and while a part of him was hardened by it, he had so much room for softness and love. Drasko can be intimidating when he wants to be but a softie for Grace at the same time. The importance he places on his found family is attractive as hell. He just makes me swoon. ❤️
As for Grace, her first reaction towards their marriage was valid and I like that there was some fierceness to her as well. She didn’t really allow Drasko’s wealth to intimidate her. The girl certainly knows when to push back. I love that in the end, Grace found a whole lot of courage for love.
There was a bit of slow burn as the romance between them unfolded and I really rooted for Drasko and Grace. They both only ever wanted to be loved and as they grow closer I can’t help but rejoice as they both learn and decide to be vulnerable with each other.
There is a twist to this book, a red herring, and I thought I was so clever only to be stumped in the end because I was right and wrong. I couldn’t comprehend the pain, the monstrosity, and it just breaks my heart. The last pages was heart stopping!
I realy enjoyed this book and would recommend it to yall. ❤️💎
It is always hard to review a book that affected me so much because my fear is that I won’t completely be able to express my emotions and that I won’t do justice to the story and the author. A few months ago I came across one of Kahany’s books by chance ( it was a Bookbub deal ) and it’s been a revelation, a breath of fresh air, something unexpected that made me seek out all the other books and stalk the author (The book in question was Rebel’s muse btw) This book is not different, the main characters are flawed, tortured souls that have to deal with what life throws at them and try to make the best of it even in the most unsuitable and unexpected ways. The writing is fluent and captivating, places and people are described in an accurate and evocative way you can almost taste and smell what it’s been described. I won’t tell about the story (it’s in the blurb) or the possible triggers ( it’s the author’s job) but in this story you won’t find rainbows and unicorns so be prepared to embark on a journey into the darkest parts of the human soul. This story will stay with you long after its end. Nobody writes like V. Kahany.
First of all, thank you so much for reaching out to me and sending me this arc. I didn’t even realize this book’s release date was coming up, but when I hear Victorian England and Mafia, count me in!
Flowers for the devil was one of my most favorite reads last year and The Diamond King didn’t disappoint either.
Drasko Mawr went from being a boy on the streets to being the king of diamonds. But the man who gave him everything is also the reason why he could lose everything. To keep his fortune, he has to complete six tasks. Little did he know the part Grace Somerville would play in the grand scheme of the game.
Grace Somerville is a talented piano player, finally ready to escape the clutches of her guardians. Marriage was her way to freedom, but what she wasn’t expecting was to end up being the new Mrs. Mawr.
This book took me captive from the first page. I had no idea what I was getting into, but the pages just kept turning and turning and suddenly the book was at its end.
The writing is amazing. It’s descriptive, sensual and also shows the attention to detail that went into story. The two biggest themes are probably the music, which makes you feel as if you could hear it too, if you just listen close enough, as well as the Indian cultural aspects, that also make out a huge part of the story.
I was in awe while reading Drasko and Grace’s story and I desperately wish for another book, just to spend more time with all the lovely characters I got to meet.
What an absolute gem. Or should I say diamond! Everything about this book was beautiful. Drasko’s story coming from nothing, being raised by a bonafide sociopath and making the very most of it was goosebump inducing. There were some twists and turns in the plot that I didn’t see coming. The writing was magnificent and the love story … wow. To have a man be that dedicated to you … be still my beating heart!! If you haven’t done it yet, read this book!!
This novel exudes a historical romance aura with clear Peaky Blinders vibes. It centers on two main characters, Grace and Drasko, who navigate a diamond mine, a ruthless game, an arranged marriage, and a slow-burning discovery of their mutual feelings. Throughout the story, shifting timelines reveal the events leading to the current situation—particularly the marriage arrangement and Drasko’s circumstances. The book was enjoyable, though it was somewhat lengthy and contained overly detailed descriptions at times. Although the twists were fairly predictable, they effectively complemented the story's themes.
I'm attempting no spoilers. This was a decent billionaire CEO/Mafia combo, I was for some reason thinking it was a modern day but it's set in the 1890s. Enemies to lovers, and also childhood romance. There was a twist I was NOT prepared for and the way I sat up in bed! Worth it for that alone, much appreciated that.
Complete opposite of what I normally read but so glad I read it. So many twists and even the "boring" times weren't so boring. It's been a while since a book has brought so many feelings out and I loved every minute of it!
This is the second book I have read (first book was Flowers for The Devil) by V. Kahany and again this author has completely amazed me.
The Diamond King takes place during the Victorian era and follows Drasko as he navigates the challenges that his adoptive father throws at him. One challenge in particular forces Drasko to marry Grace, who is completely against the whole arrangement. The story continues to tell not only how Drasko and Grace fell in love, but how Drasko became the man that he is.
The slow burn in this book was delicious. It is written in such a beautiful and unique way that it allows you to truly feel the love and connection between the main couple. It even makes those spicy scenes that much better.
I also loved the flashbacks of Drasko’s past. Being able to learn about Drasko’s trauma and why his adoptive father has so much control over him truly helped me sympathize and understand why he did or said the things he did. It also helped lead to some mind blowing plot twists 🤯 When I tell you I had to take a few minutes to comprehend what had happened to the Crimson Tear, I’m not kidding! No way would I have guessed it!
Overall, this Victorian era romance is truly one of a kind and deserves so much more love. This author knows how to write a story and I am so glad I was lucky enough to have been able to read it. Thank you V. Kahany for thinking of me and sending me an ARC 🫶
I was lured in from an excerpt on booktok, but this story had me ensnared from the first chapter. Enemies to lovers, adventure, who-dunnit, and more. 10/10 recommends.
I really enjoyed this book because it was well written, the characters were real and likeable, and the plot line was interesting. This is an enemies to lovers book through an arranged marriage between Drasko and Grace. Drasko is tall and dark with an even darker past that has spurred him on to become a diamond king billionaire. Grace is a young musical prodigy who is restricted in life due to her strict and conservative guardians. The game that Drasko has embarked on results in their union and both parties have secrets that are unraveled as the game continues to a climatic peak. There is spice! Subjectively 🌶️🌶️ which hopefully doesn’t say more about me than intended. Recommended for those who enjoy historical romance, with mafia, enemies to lovers and action.
Received an advanced copy of this book and am providing a review voluntarily.
♾️STARS!!! This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read. The plot, the character development, the detail, everything was just so well written. I finished this book in 2 days because I could not put it down!
If you are in a reading slump or just want to read something amazing, this is the book!
This was beautiful I loved this so much, the love story and the twists I wasn’t expecting, amazing. This is the first time I have read a book by Kahany and will have to try more by this author.
