From the New York Times best-selling author of A Terrible Love.

Faren Mitchell keeps the secret of her second job from the one man who could see her through some of the darkest moments of her life. She doesn't want Jared "Mick" McKenna for the billions he's amassed, but for the one thing she's never given any her innocence.

Mick's guilt over the injury he inflicted fuels the beginnings of something more; a sexual consumption of each other that neither were anticipating. When Faren's actions don't match her words, Mick suspicions are raised. His feelings turn to ones of protection after Faren is mugged and he can't reconcile his desire for her with the reality they now find themselves in.

As Faren's bucket list grows, so does the danger that surrounds the choices she's made. Can she take what she needs from Mick and also secure her mother's life? Or will the truth she has weaved between the lies doom them both?

★★★★! The Token, part 2 of 6. Compelling heroine, Faren & mysterious hero, Jared McKenna’s worlds have collided. But both have pasts & secrets they rather keep to themselves!

“I have the papers to sign and my mom to see. And money to collect off the lust of men.”

There are 6 parts to The Token series. I recommend these novellas be read in order:
Part 1: The Token
Part 2: The Token 2
Part 3: The Token 3
Part 4: The Token 4
Part 5: The Token 5
Part 6: The Token 6

In The Token, part 1 we met physical therapist, Faren Mitchell as she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She ran out into the street and is hit by a Harley Davidson driven by billionaire Jared “Mick” McKenna. A month prior to help pay for her mom’s mounting medical care she started working grave yard at a strip club owned by Jared McKenna. Faren has had trauma in her past, what exactly will unfold with the story. After the accident Jared paid her hospital bills and courted her until a misunderstanding leaves their future in a limbo and Faren found herself in a dangerous situation…

The Token 2 continues right after cliffy at end of part 1. Faren narrowly escapes a dangerous situation. We learn some more about her past and a villain in the series makes an appearance. We follow as she is struggling with her own mortality and whether should give into Jared’s seduction and lose her virginity to him?

As some questions are answered more arise…. What is Jared “Mick” McKenna hiding? How will the situation with Faren’s past and her mother be resolved? What’s going to happen with Faren’s illness? How will Jared react when he realizes she is an employee at one of his gentleman’s clubs? But maybe most of all why would a billionaire engage in sordid business practices? Expect the unexpected and… watch out for villains!

FAREN MITCHELL: 22 years/physical therapist, part-time exotic dancer/caramel blond hair/light gray eyes/5’9”/ex-ballerina/virgin.

Faren Mitchell is a very compelling heroine. Maybe it’s her brain tumor diagnosis or her slightly deformed hand. Or maybe it’s her innocence and she has secrets and trauma in her past. Seven words to describe Faren: Lonely, reflective, loyal, broken, innocent, strong and naïve.

“Being a virgin doesn't mean I’m innocent. There're degrees of compromise. I'm becoming an expert on skirting the inevitable, like swimming against a vortex.”

 photo abs8bysb_zps460fe666.gif

JARED MCKENNA, “MICK”: ~30 years/Billionaire/Mogul/Owner of Gentleman’s clubs/$$$$/dark auburn hair/dark brown eyes/6’3”/tattoo.

Jared “Mick” McKenna is still enigma. We know that he is a billionaire and that he owns several gentlemen and strip clubs and by now we know how he made his first money. Seven words to describe Jared: Enigmatic, mysterious, noble, caring, jaded, elusive and determined.

“My core throbs for a finish he doesn't provide. It's not blue balls; it's blue clit.”

Just like part one this second installment of The Token offers the intense build-up of sexual tension. It is my understanding that part 3 will have a sex scene. Part 2 ends with a shocking cliffy! I am thankful part 3, The Token 3 will be out soon. I predict this serial will continue to offer a roller-coaster of intrigue and… cliffys until a sweet HEA in part 6.

Compelling heroine! Mysterious and enigmatic hero! Eclectic story-telling and a suspenseful plot! I am looking forward to part 3!

“My moral compass no longer points true north. It's guided by circumstance and fate, neither conferring with the other.”

When you care about a character, when you want to step up to the plate for them, when you forget about the world around you, the author has created magic. I guess that makes Marata Eros a magician, AGAIN, The Token 2, her dark romantic tale of a young woman who has been beaten down literally and figuratively by life but keeps on picking herself up grabs you by the heart and squeezes tight. How much can one woman take? Faren has had little happiness in her life, and when she does, it’s yanked brutally away. When the wealthy, powerful and mysterious Jared “Mick” McKenna comes into her life, her senses are overpowered, she wants him, but they both have secrets they keep hidden, and getting too close could expose them. .. or has Mick’s influence and connections laid Faren’s bare? He may know her past, but does he know her future? Does he know her “dirty little secrets” of the present? Will they expose themselves to each other?

Marata Eros has taken erotic romance to a whole new level with this series. This is not in your face sexual romance. The Token 2 is erotica of the heart for Faren and Mick, taut, obvious and heart breaking as they skirt around their need, while the clock counts down for Faren. With well-developed characters, from the wealthy thrill seekers to the tough as nails best friend, Ms. Eros has choregraphed a look into the dark side of the lives of her characters, but left a pinprick of light that is hope for real love. Her signature style is still there in the dialogue she creates, the scenes she paints, but this series shows a side of this author that is nothing short of brilliant!

I was fortunate (Okay, I did the book dance!) to receive an ARC edition from Marata Eros in exchange for my honest review, and honestly, her work just keeps getting better!

The Token 2 is book 2 in the Token series and the continuation of Faren Mitchell's tragic and dark tale.

Faren has discovered that she is terminally ill. With the sole care of her mother laying on her shoulders, Faren will do just about anything to protect her mother from state run care. Follow a path she finds difficult to lead the only bright star in her future is Jared McKenna (self made billionaire). Faren has kept her detested life choices out of Jared's scope.

But now a new evil has shown its ugly head, the person who permanently damaged her hand and put her mother in her vegetable state...her step father Ron.

As fast as Faren tries to grab for happiness in her last remaining days, the strings of her life seems to be unraveling quicker than she can pull them back together.

The Token 2 is a dark romance that pulls us into an unthinkable and heart breaking situation. Watching Faren grasp to hold what life she has left together is heart wrenching. The choices she makes sucks us into a sexually debauched world where Faren's spirit is being torn apart. You cheer her ability to still find happiness in Jared but how long will it last if he finds out her new career choices?

Eros has created a potential hero with a uber alpha presence and a past shrouded in mystery.

Emotionally and sexually charged, heart clenching suspense, The Token 2 brilliantly envelopes you into Faren plight. Put into a novella length story, Eros teases us with what's to come but keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I received this ARC copy of The Token 2 in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication January 8, 2014. Check out the cover reveal at Tome Tender Book Blog January 3, 2014.

When I first read this new novella I gave it a solid 4 stars because I was getting frustrated with the main character and the choices she was making in her extremely complicated life. But after finishing it and reading 3 other books since, I can't seem to get this story off my mind! At first I didn't like it as much as the first book, The Token, but after endless thought, I think it deserves 5 stars. Marata Eros is proving to us once again how good her writing truly is. To have made me feel happy, heart broken, angry, devastated, scared, pensive and mortified all in under 20,000 words, is quite a skill!

I tried to put myself in the main character, Faren's, situation to see what I would do. Her situation being: terminally ill with only months to live, having the financial burden of her ill mother's care- even after she herself is gone, going to extremes to make the extra cash required with the little time she has left...and so her plight goes on; I really don't think I'd do much different! Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Jarred 'Mick' McKenna is the gorgeous self-made billionaire who wants to sweep the prideful Faren off her feet. But she's playing hard to get because of her dire circumstances. This is what I'm struggling the most with. I just want her to let go and give in to him and spill her guts to take the burden off her shoulder!!! I'm hopeful this will happen in time but patience isn't a strength of mine! Lol
We're left hanging with another cliff hanger but luckily the next instalment will be out in no time.

I am thoroughly enjoying The Token series, Marata Eros is a killer New Adult Author who's skills just keep growing-even when you think she's already got them all!

The emotions that the story makes you feel are diverse. This is a dark, gritty, tragedy with light at the end of the tunnel... or I hope so anyway!

My Rant: The Token #2 is an amazing story that captured and captivated me. Marata Eros is brilliant, the story line is enticing and the characters are flawless. There is so much I want to say about this series without giving it away. This story makes me really emotional. I can relate the Faren and that scares me. Faren is vulnerable but strong enough to do what is necessary especially when her mothers life is counting on it. She lets you into her world, her emotions and her struggles. You begin to feel like you are walking with her through these trials and its hard. A lot of what Faren goes through is ugly but that the way of the world. But what makes this book special is that through all the ugliness and pain something beautiful happens and it gives Faren and the ready a chance to escape the reality of the harsh world.

Jared Mckenna makes us forget about the cruelty. we melt like butter when he is around and the world seems to right itself again. Jared is the perfect distraction not only is he sexy but he is sexy with cash. Now, I don't just love Jared for his money, although it helps LOL. We love him because he is sincere, caring, compassionate and protective. He is perfect for Faren. There is a strong chemistry between both of the characters. They are definitely meant to be together but there is a small strand that is trying to separate them and the small strand is Faren's pride. There are words that are not said that should be said between the two which makes this love between them difficult. But the tension begins to build. They both want each other but they are holding back.

Marata throws a couple of twist in the plot that completely take you off guard. She know her audience, we like it dark and gritty and that is how she gives us the story. You have to work through all the pain and emotions to get through the story but when you do you appreciate the effort and just when you think its safe, the ending leaves you grasping for more.

My recommendation:

Overall I really enjoyed this story. This book has all the elements of a great story with a gritty twist. Marata ability to drag a reader into a dark place and give them a glimpse of the perfect light makes her a genius at her craft. This series is definitely going on my 2014 favorites list.

I rated this book 5 out of 5 Purple Rant Hearts and would recommend this book and series to anyone that is interested in a series that has a dark and twisted plot, a sexy Alpha male, and a vulnerable damsel in distress.

FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the author, editor, publisher, or Promo Host. This is my honest opinion about this book and I did not receive any monetary compensation for writing this review nor was I obligated to write a positive one.

Although Faren despises her new job choice she still maintains her innocence and virtue. As a reader it was impossible not to sympathize with her and hope all would work out in the end. After The Token 1's hell of a cliffhanger, The Token 2 starts out fast and doesn't slow down! I enjoyed the pick up in the pace of this serial and a lot changes and happens in this installment. Faren is losing the reigns on her virtuous existence and is being thrust farther and farther into danger and darkness. Mick starts to reveal more of his character, caring, protective, and- a billionaire owner which includes the establishment Faren is working at.

"My moral compass no longer points true north. It's guided by circumstance and fate, neither conferring with the other."

Faren fights to keep more than one secret from Mick which is proving harder than she thought. I became a little bit annoyed with Faren during this novella since she seemed kind of "whiny." I would have enjoyed if she embraced her "dark side" a little more. Despite everything else going on she also wonders about Mick's business dealings and feels many doubts about how he claims he made all of his money.

Also, we learn more about Faren's life prior to The Token. She has a heart-breaking past which strengthens the admiration I have for her character. I read this one eagerly and quickly to find out what would happen next. I have definitely been hooked by the author's eloquent and flawless writing style. The Token serial is definitely turning out to be a new favorite of mine!

A truly Awesome part 2!!!!

If you haven't read Token part one get your ass back and read that first!!!! Your missing all the lead up.

Wow Oh Wow!!!! this instalment is explosive, its got some killer action scenes that make you salivate for more.

The characters are getting more interesting and I love learning more about them.

Faren is getting more ferocious she is pulling up her big girl panties and taking the challenges head on.

Mick is so sweet and tender and protective can I have him lol
I love that he “Googled” her.
I liked finding out more about Mick and how he made his millions.

I really like Kiki so strong and supportive and a really great friend.

Ronnie is freaking scary and I hope he gets his soon!!!!!

Thorn is quite interesting I cant work out if I like him or hate him yet, I think he likes to be in control and is the type to get ahead by pushing people outta the way and stepping on toes.

I love how Marata really gets into all the nooks and crannies that are Faren. And I absolutely love watching her grow as a character.

We get more of the story of the mystery of Faren and her horrific past and what happened to her and her mothers defence for her life.

The build up of Faren and Mick's relationship and heading to the bedroom is very exciting and I cant wait to see what Marata Eros comes up with I know its gonna be Sweet and Sexy!!!!!!!

All up and excellent instalment that breathes fire into the genre, characters are evolving and the storyline is refreshing and unpredictable. I cant wait to see what comes up next!!!!!

This was another great novella by the talented Marata Eros. Picking up where book one's cliffhanger left us, my heart was in my throat as Faren dealt with her situation--and that's all I can say because if you haven't read book one, well, I don't want to spoil it. Packed with some action and some scary antics, Eros smoothes over the situation for the time being, but nothing is resolved, and it comes down to whether or not Faren is ready to start trusting people and open up, or if she'll allow herself to be caught in another scary situation like the that opens this sequel.

Faren is a bit frustrating to me in that she doesn't open up. I get her reasoning, I do, but if I were in her place, I'd be screaming from the rooftops looking for someone to take care of me, especially if my time was running out. I like her, but I want her to finally give in and tell Mick... especially when she learns a bit of truth about his businesses...

The sexcapades in this novel are heightened quite a bit in this sequel--remember Faren dances on the side and makes bank doing specialty gigs, so there is quite a bit more touching and detail than I personally enjoy, and there is one scene that just made me sick (I think it was meant to, though), so readers needs to be aware--this is definitely for mature readers of NA.

With baited breath I have waited to find out what would happen to Faren, given the predicament she found herself in with her Stepfather at the end of The Token 1. I was not disappointed in the slightest! Gripped to the edge of my seat I witnessed the giddy highs and crashing lows throughout The Token 2, the story is able to take twists you have never even thought of, shocking and exciting in equal respects!!

Marata Eros has a writing style that allows you to easily follow the storyline while still getting fully involved & invested in each character's individual emotions, and how they evolve and progress into the Novella as well as how their interactions and mini story lines with others; Love, Sex, Friendship, Innocence, Revenge & of course the Sickening Thorn and his role within it all.

A True Must Read! She did it again, I just cannot wait for The Token 3, I am well and truly hooked!!

OMG...I'm loving this story! After reading The Token I couldn't wait to open this one to continue the story of Faren and Mick.

Picking up right where the first one left off, Faren finds herself going deeper and deeper into a world she is despises. Her actions are of necessity not want.

Mick starts to take on a new perspective in her life as she finds herself wanting him more with each day. Knowing she will never have what she truly desires, she tries to simplify their relationship. Her feelings don't want to let her though.

Marata Eros is a master of detail within the story and with her characters. Every time I open one of her books I know it will be a late night of reading because I can't put it down! This story is no exception!

I will now wait on the edge of my seat for part 3. Ugh....this is going to be a rough couple weeks! Hurry up and get here February 1st!

Reading this novella I was heart broken, angry, devastated, scared, and mortified all at the same time.I'm all for the strong independent women but she's taking it to the extreme. I just want her to let go and give in to him and spill her guts to take the burden off her shoulder!!! If not him at least to her best friend.I was like yes Faren is finally going to spill her guts and tell Jared McKenna everything but No she doesn't. I'm so frustrated with her and the choices she continue making in her extremely complicated life. I'm hopeful this will happen but we're left hanging with another cliff hanger but I'll wait patiently for the next book. Overall I really love this novella and can't to see how everything come together.

Again….a fantastic read. This is the best analogy I can come up with when it comes to describing Marata Eros’ writing and what it does to me and how it makes me feel. I am an addict. Her dark, erotic romance writings are my drug. She is my dealer .I’m desperate for my next “fix”. Detox is NOT an option! Writing so flawless, so captivating you can’t help but want to drown yourself in the world of Mick and Faren, and a storyline so intriguing, so dark, so erotic you feel you might suffocate from the breath you hold while you’re on this journey and not knowing where it’s going to take you. Simply brilliant!!

In this new book we see more of the romance between Mick and Faren. Their connection is SCORCHING HOT! That being said, there were times where I found myself getting frustrated at Faren when she pushed him away. However she has her reasons... Ones that I don't quite agree with...
The storyline is reaching it's climax and I am extremely anxious to see if the truth will be revealed. I truly want to see Mick and Faren be together, but that's questionable.
Just like the first one, I nearly lost it with how it ended!
All in all, I really love where everything is going and excited for the next installment! :)

I'm going to post a review on this book instead of 1-3. The 3 books have too much going on omg I was trying hard to keep up. One the frustrating things about this book was the fact that there was barely any dialog! There was so much filler that I was trying to figure out how the main characters could possibly like eachother when they don't even talk. She talks more to her "Dancing pimp" than anyone else. I was like a bad soap opera rolled into one. She's a physical therapist paying off her mothers bills because the mother is in the hospital in a coma, put there by her stepfather who never got arrested. She becomes a stripper thanks to her bestfriend Kiki, but the money she makes is not enough to pay the hospital so she gets involved in a high rollers stripping gig where she makes alot more money. All she has to do is personal lap dances. While this is happening she finds out that she has a brain tumor and a short amount of time to live so she's under alot of pressure. She almost gets run over by a motorcycle as she leaves the hospital and it turns out it is the owner of the club she works at hes young and gorgeous. He asks her out and soon they're "dating" but again barely talk to eachother so i don't know how that's possible. Her stepfather comes back into the picture and tries to hurt her again. She doesn't want to tell the hottie boss anything that's going on until he finds out on the last night that she was going to do the lap dances. He beats the crap out of the guy he kissers her and walks away all hurt. Again how he could care about her with not alot of talking i dont know. I have this 2 stars because it was mostly fillers and i had to skim through to get to the actual dialog. don't think i can read the rest it's just too much

I bought these in a box set, and all three volumes were intense! There were moments when I wanted to climb right into the book and shake some sense into Faren and Jared! It's a strange thing to see everything so clearly from the outside, like you're a part of all of it. That's what this felt like. The danger was palpable. The fear and sadness were disheartening. I kept thinking, if only she would open up, so many things could change. All of the details drew me in. I felt like, I knew each of the characters. You know, you're reading something meaningful when it brings out emotions. These definitely did. I was angry, frustrated, sympathetic and sad. It was intense and personal. I finished these first three at 1:30 am and turned on my computer to buy the next set. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

The series starts out with Faren Mitchell finding out she has an inoperable brain tumor and runs out into the street, only to be hit by Jared McKenna who is riding his motorcycle. The story then goes back to a month prior to seeing that she is a physical therapist who is trying to make ends meet and pay for her mother’s care at a clinic. Because money is so tight, she decides to become a stripper to gain extra money without having to give up her day job, or her identity. She finds out that this strip club is owned by no other than the gorgeous Jared or “Mick” as her refers to himself. Faren finds out that there is more money to be made by dancing in one of his more exclusive establishments.

In book two, we start off right where we left off in book one. We finally meet Faren’s stepfather Ronald Bunce. The web of lies keep piling up for Faren as she tries to finish paying for her mother’s care at the clinic. This book is action packed. Just when Faren starts to find happiness, everything seems to be ripped away from her.

I really wish Faren would open up more. She has trust issues, which is understandable, but if someone is offering a shoulder to lean on, do it. Jared, or Mick, is nothing but supportive and tries in every way possible to lessen the load on Faren’s shoulders even telling her to “use him”. She is starting to see that her choices are not affecting just her, but also Mick as well, since she needs to keep lying to him about her work. I really wish that she would come clean with him and let him know why she is doing the exotic dances, so that their relationship would have a better foundation. Again, we are left with another cliff hanger. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars because I really wish that there would be some of the issues would be resolved instead of piling up.

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 leaves off. We get more insight as to how cruel Faren's father is and what exactly he did to both her and her mother. The man is absolutely sick and I cringe when I think of it as I write this.

As for her relationship with Mick, I don't know whether to fall in love with him or run far away since he goes to extremes. I mean if you take a step back you can understand why a rich man would look into this girl. After all he is worth billions and accidentally hit her with his motorcycle. For all he knows she could try to blackmail and bleed him dry with lawsuits. We all know this isn't in Faren's nature but he would not know that. But the more Mick digs into her personal life, he is falling for her. Doesn't help she is stubborn and supports the theory of not wanting him for his money. As for Faren, I feel so bad for her and her predicament. I get why she is doing what she does, and she is able to drawn the line on the limits it goes so to me that isn't that bad, but for a virgin it is the end of the world.

We also get a glimpse of who Thorn is and what his relationship is to Mick. There is a lot more to the story but the tangle web we weave for both Thorne and Faren grows so how will Mick feel when his childhood friend and the woman he is falling for hold a basket of secrets that could take down his heart and empire.

The first novella ends with a horrifying jolt. And the next one starts off with an explosive turn of events. A danger from the past comes after Faren and she has to fight back. Meanwhile, her relationship with Jared is going deeper and fiercer. (Sorry, I can't call him Mick, for some reason that name diminishes him in my eyes).

First reviewed on Literaria http://sede-literaria.blogspot.com

There are so many shadows over Faren. The weight of her suffering crushed me all throughout the story. It's like a palpable coat over everything. You have to be warned that this story has a dark tone with very graphic scenes of barely consensual intimacy and a constant feeling of hopelessness. It all builds up to the sacrifice and secrets balanced against the subtle, emotional, magnetic sensuality of a twisted romance.

There is some light, some sweetness and beauty, but on the dark side, the depravation Faren slowly agrees to is quite disturbing, though masterfully portrayed.

A couple of men stand out as adversaries to Faren's freedom. One of them in particular, Thorn, is quite literally a thorn in anybody's side and soul. Although he's sharply revolting, he's also a challenge to delve into. Does he have a redeeming secret?

I'll be honest here, after reading book 1 I was a little apprehensive to go on with the series. So many plot twists, it made my head hurt. But I'm glad I did.

We learned in The Token 2, exactly why Faren shys away from relationships and men in general. Her stepfather Ronald Bunce was/is a terrible man and we get some insight on what he did to hurt her and physically disable her mother. Her romance with Mick is heating up, she is still riding laps while furiously trying to keep that fact under wraps from Mick, and while her romance and her job are working for the time being no one knows that she still holds her V card.

Part of me hopes that Mick does find out about Faren's night job. Maybe then he will tie up her debt from all of her mother's medical bills and they can live HEA. But, that would be boring and too easy now wouldn't it? So, I shall read on!

Well finished book 2 and still no sex?!!! WTF! There were lots of close calls, but then nada. Another tiny book - the writer is trying to put these across like C.D.Reiss did with her Beg Series, but doesn't come close. I mean I was into Faren and Mick....they have a great connection, but it's ridiculous when he's sees her leaving for work twice - dressed as a pole dancer and doesn't put A & B together, and he owns 10 strip clubs!!! I don't like being strung along so I have to keep buying her books - Book 3 comes out Feb. 1...

Wow, these books are like little teasers. Just when I think i'm really getting into it, the book ends and really starting to annoy me actually. I think i'll just give The Token 3 (The Token, #3) by Marata Eros a go and see if i can get just a bit more, really not sure i'll make it to The Token 4 (The Token, #4) by Marata Eros

Book two has more of the back and forth push and pull between Faren and Jared. She's fully invested in the rotating laps game and is not sure who to trust. She can't come clean to Jared because she thinks he has to know. And she needs the money, only the money is coming with more and more strings.

I love how strong Faren is, never giving into pity and never even considering the easy way. I'll keep going with book 3, but this second one felt really short and really light on substance.

No matter how tragic Faren's life has been and no matter how ugly her situation is, she still picks her self up and tries to do what she can in order for her mother to be taken care off. Even if it mean keeping her secrets from Mick knowing if he knew what she was doing would shatter them both.
