I enjoyed the book. The protagonist is a little bit too much like Daphne in Scooby-Doo. There were Spanish speaking characters in this novel. The author did not bother to get correct Spanish verbiage. Google translate usually does better than what was published in this book. That really upset me because correct translation from English to Spanish and vice versa is extremely readily available within the United States.

I don't know why I bothered.

My complaints with this book were basically the same as they were with the last one. Everything seems too convenient, the relationship between Jack and Mia is really just annoying (how is it that they go from zero to nearly sex TWICE still without being anything to each other), and nothing really happens.

We have the added bonus of Mia's annoying mother this time though. 'Please don't date my daughter even though you care for her, I'd rather her go out with a guy who turns out to be a psychopath'. A+ on that one, mom.

And yet again, I liked the idea of the story far more than I liked the actual story. I went in hoping that this would be an improvement on its predecessor and somehow I think I actually ended up liking the other book better. Shame.

I have the next book and I'm certain I won't bother reading it. When the cliffhanger at the end doesn't grab you, that seems like a sign to not waste your time.

I got as far as 13% into this and packed it in. I had read the first book and was torn as to whether I'd stick with the series but this certainly made my mind up for me !
I reached a point where Jack was in a hospital and Mia went there to collect him and a young medic made a pass at her and she was alright with that and encouraged him and I made a note that it was farfetched but THEN Mia asks her new friend Ned if he'd ever heard of human trafficking and his response is "Sounds sexy" and my jaw hit the floor but he didn't appear to be jesting, but really was THAT thick and I wasn't spending anymore time around him, I'm afraid !!
The story seemed to feature Mexican illegals in America and that put me off for starters and then there was quite a lot of "horsey" stuff and that doesn't interest me, either.
It may appeal to a teenaged reader, perhaps but it certainly isn't for me. In mitigation, the cover is a very nice one, however.

Not sure if I will finish this. Definitely things I like about the characters and story but they haven't grown from the first book. Both leads are repeating the same mistakes and a little communication would eliminate lots of dangerous situations. Main characters are acting like self-conscious teenagers, crushing on each other instead of intelligent adult detectives.

Characters weren't any better. This was just not a good read. I could have done without the teenage angst from Jack and Mia, and she was just as stupid so nope not bothering with anymore.

Mia Kazmaroff loves her horse Shiloh. I have always loved horses, so it was nice to have a horse as a character in this book. I wiped this story out in one sitting. The main thrust is human trafficking. Mia and her mother are driving out to visit Shiloh at night when something darts in front of their car. They stop, in the dark, idiotic, but they find a young Mexican boy named Jose. He doesn't speak much English, but they take him back with them and they go to Jack's house. Jack puts the kid up for the night on his couch. Find and dandy, but someone murders the kid and burns the house down around Jack's ears and he's lucky to get himself and the dog out alive. Things escalate from there. Once again, Mia needed to be shaken. Jack is correct that she ignores advice and runs rough-shod over everyone and everything and she should be dead a thousand times over. Shiloh is at the end of the book too. I almost cried, and maybe you will too.

Congo her good story and fun and engaging characters. However, I'm not so happy that Mia does not seem to change of learn from experiences in previous book and is still very reckless and unthinking. She goes through with dangerous situations without telling anyone and her partner has to figure out where she is and save her in the Nick of time.

A great story

This was an exceptional romantic murder mystery and I have already ordered two more mysteries in this series. I really do like the way Susan writes! Her characters are fabulous and the mystery plot of at least this story was captivating. I can't wait to read more!

I am now officially hooked on this series. Not sure why - Mia tends to drive me nuts, but her relationship with Jack is nice. And the stories are well-written, with a minimum of typos and grammar errors.

The story was about human trafficking and forced prostitution and drugs. Mia gets even stupider in this story, trying to save these girls all by herself! She doesn't trust Jack, lies to him. Carry's a gun, but doesn't shoot to kill and gets lax in while in a dangerous situation. She should be dead.

Mia is becoming annoying. Putting herself in danger while lying to the people who care for her. She's being dumb. Also, why does she go on about pronouncing her name correctly and why is it never told what the correct pronunciation is? Ugh

Sex trafficking in Atlanta with many twists and turns. Mia seems too impulsive given her age…not thinking through the risks or consequences when she thinks everyone is preventing her from solving the problem. Exciting read that I couldn’t put down. Can’t wait to read other books in the series.

Mia and her mother find a young Spanish man and they take him home, later that night the place is burned and his throat has been slit. The beginning of a story of sex trafficking, and now to find his sister Maria.
Mia still seems so young, running off and not thinking before acting, a story that was not my interest. Jack had to go away and still hadn’t returned. She finds the man behind the sex traffic, and loses her horse. Things for her Mother Jess and Max is moving along.

THE STORY LINE WAS A GROSS AND TOUCHY SUBJECT, HAS A HOPELESS FEEL TO IT.I ENJOYED BK#1 MORE THAN THIS ONE BECAUSE OF THE SUBJECT. I WISH NUALA HAD USED HER SPECIAL GIFT MORE, THIS ONE HAD VERY LITTLE OF HER POWERS. HER MOTHER JESS, I REALLY DISLIKE HER, SHE IS A MEDDLER. Mia and Jack slowly continue to evolve as does their partnership and their relationship. Lots of action and twists. When I start reading Mia's adventures, I can't stop until I'm done.
I have book 3 in my reading queue.
