The perfect gift book for cat lovers everywhere, showing how to measure your cat’s intelligence in a series of easy and fun tests.
How clever is your cat? Can your cat:
• Make sounds upon request?• Predict a change in the weather?
Or is your cat the type who
• Falls off ledges while sleeping?• Continually runs into walls or doors?
You can find out how smart your cat really is by giving him or her the Cat IQ Test – a simple, four-part intelligence test. By observation and by using everyday household items, you will be able to measure your cat’s co-ordination, communication, social and reasoning powers.
Also includes:
• Suggestions on how to improve your cat’s IQ.• Comparative scores of other cats by age, sex and type.• A Certificate of Merit to be filled in and proudly displayed on completion of the Cat IQ Test.
I wasn’t shocked to discover that my Poppy is a genius. She has a cat IQ of 148, which means she’s a real big deal in terms of cat intellect. Only 1 in 5000 cats are that smart. According to this she’s categorised in the genius range:
“Cats with a score of 140 or more are gifted and extremely bright. They are able to function well and exhibit exceptional reasoning skills. Extremely well developed coordination and balance have been demonstrated. They communicate well and often develop distinct relationships with their owners. Without a doubt, these cats are creative and original in the ways they cope with their daily lives. These pets are often very attractive, mature, healthy and stable.”
Well, all of that applies!
I’m so proud of her, but I don’t think this book entirely factored in the possibility of owner bias. I mean, we all want our cats to be smart. So I had a tendency to score her highly in certain sections. Where I knew she’d displayed certain behaviour in the past, but not in the process of testing. I don’t care though, my cat’s the best! She was always going to smash this test. I think she’s been trying to read too many books. She’s a clever little thing; she always tries to get involved with my reading.
However, being a cat genius is damn hard work. And after these fun little tests she was exhausted. It’s no wonder she fell asleep reading.
This was good fun, we both enjoyed it. I knew my cat was genius to begin with, but it was nice to have it confirmed. She’s got a certificate and everything; it’s at the back of the book!
Just did the test with my cat Jake. He's wasn't reposive for some questions so I had to score him a few zero's. This is his score.Section A = 73Section B = 18Section C = 8Section D = 0Total = 99 (Normal) :DI found doing the test quiet fun, I don't think Jake was to impressed with it tho. Siamese cats are apprently miles smarter than other cats, kinda makes me want one.
How fun, and it takes only a few minutes. It helped to confirm what I've know for a decade...my cat Rudy posesses a superior intellect...he might even be TAG. =)
Got this little book for Christmas and went through the questionnaire for my cat Minerva. The result places her in the "above normal" category and claims that she has "common sense", which is clearly wrong since she is the silliest cat I know and not too bright. Still, fun little book.
Jazz is SUPERIOR in intelligence. Takes after me, obviously! ;) She scored 135 on the IQ test. Thanks so much to Emma and Sam for this wonderfully fun Xmas gift and to Mercedes for the enjoyable morning spent completing a good number of the questions whilst indulging in breakfast pancakes with peanutbutter and berries & vegan chai in bed! :) Xx
Section B was most fun to complete as it included interactive tests to do with my kitty in order to score him.
Jack scored 138 and falls within the "Superior" Range (120 - 139 points). [With 140+ being a Genius]
Superior Range: Pets that are grouped within the 120 to 139 point range are usually quite clever and able to grasp new information quickly. These pets are highly intelligent and easily gain the strength and approval of their owners. Pets within this category are well coordinated and have good muscle development and posture. They are usually mature and can adjust quickly to changing situations. They have learned to get along smoothly with their owners and family and have mastered the skills they need to survive.
I've read through it so far and completed most of Section A and all of Section D. When my cat is a bit more awake, (she's had a hard day outside after all lol), I'll try out the test requirements for Section B and C.
Another from my stepmother's bathroom. Didn't love that every example was of a male cat, or that female cats are expected to have lower IQs, but the drawings were cute
I found this book to be a much more satisfying assessment of my cat's IQ than the previous cat IQ test book I read. (And yes, I realize how sad it is that I read not one, but two books on testing my cat's IQ.)
This book seems to be more hands-on and has questions that relate to the actual behavior of your cat. The book is divided into four sections: Cat Observation Test, where you read statements about your cat's behavior and then answer Never, Seldom, Often, Usually, or Always; Cat Performance Test, where you perform several activities with your cat and then note which of 3 or 4 behaviors he does in response to the activity; Extra Credit, where your cat earns bonus points if he can do specific things; and Credit Deductions, where your cat loses points if he does any of the things listed. Then you add up all of their points, and voila! There's your cat's IQ.
Now, maybe I just liked this book because my cats performed pretty well on the test, and who doesn't like to find out that their cats (or dogs, or children) are smarter than average? But I do feel like it was a pretty objective test and more similar to an actual human IQ test than the other book that I read on the topic.
A fun little exercise with little or no scientific basis. I think you're supposed to take it seriously, but I couldn't. And NOT because my cat registered as "Normal Intelligence". I already knew that. It struck me that a number of questions should have had "NA" for a possible answer, but that was never an option and, because IQ was based on a total number of points, I couldn't skip any. There are other books that treat it more seriously and, if that's what you want to know, this is not the book for you.
A fun way to spend a little time with your cats to test their reactions, etc. I'm glad I got it from the library, though, and I recommend that you do the same. I think it's accurate and reflects your pets as their best relaxed selves. I'll use this book with any future cats I get!
Probably not actually very scientific but who cares. To us our pets are smart regardless of what these books may say. I did what the book instructs the reader to do and found out that my pet cat Sam is actually smarter than I thought. This is a fun book. Have at it.
Very silly. A fun way to play with and think about your cat, but no real scientific validity, or even information. Sometimes the cat could score IQ points for something I've never thought about or understood as "smart" but there's no explanation as to why it matters. Frustrating!
My husband & I had such a fun-time testing our furry Einsteins :D there is even a certificate at the end for your cat on completion of the test.. would recommend this book to all cat owners!
