A Woman in Trouble, Secret Identity, Grumpy Soft for Sunshine Small Town Scottish Romance
A captive who dreams of her freedom
In public, violinist Elizabeth Duncan is the toast of the entertainment world. A prodigy who's been wowing audiences with her music since she was only 12 years old. But behind closed doors, she's desperate to escape the man who's turned her passion into a prison. When the specter of violence becomes more than a threat, she sacrifices everything to run.
A hero lost without a mission
Former special forces operative Ewan McBride has done everything he's supposed to since leaving the Moved home. Bought a new business. Integrated into the community. But he's just going through the motions. Until he rescues a woman in trouble in the midst of a terrible storm.
A sanctuary and an unexpected new beginning
Ewan recognizes a woman on the run and can't resist the urge to help. The danger from her past is certain to come calling. The safest place for her? With him. But as they live and work together, what starts as a self-appointed protective detail becomes so much more. With her, he finds his own safe place to land. But when their fragile fresh start is threatened, he'll do anything to protect her.

Not my favorite of the series so far. Ewan has always been in the background of the previous books since he’s Kyla (book one) and Connor’s (book 3) cousin, but we never learn much about him. I still don’t feel like I know much about him. Everything in this book centered around Isobel and her situation. It didn’t even feel like it was about their relationship. 🤷🏻♀️ This is the same way I felt about book 2. It wasn’t about the characters at all, but the issue surrounding them instead. No character or relationship development.
I did enjoy seeing the rest of the gang, albeit in brief moments, but the story felt unfinished and sparse as far as Ewan was concerned. The ebook I own ended with a part from Hamish’s POV and was completely unrelated to Ewan and Isobel. But I was listening to the audiobook while reading and that included a “bonus” epilogue. Idk why authors insist on doing this. They just need to include it in the book. At least that was about the MCs instead of being a setup for the next book. 🙄 Even still, it was sparse on details of what really happened in what felt like somewhat of a cliffhanger ending for the MCs. I was disappointed.
The female narrator on the audiobook, Pippa Jayne did an absolutely horrible job with the male voices. My husband and I were laughing out butts off because it was so ridiculous. It sounded like she was mocking men the entire time. Even with Isobel’s voice, her accent kept changing. Was it British? Scottish? Her main narrative was done in American English and it was just strange to have that all thrown in there. Oddly enough, I actually enjoyed Dan Calley’s narration in this book. I liked his voice for Ewan, but again, it was on the cusp of Scottish and British.
Oh, this book was a pleasant surprise, I really liked the story and the characters, not to mention, Kait Nolan has won a reader with me because I loved her way of writing!!!
The story of Elizabeth/Isobel and Ewan made me fall in love while I was reading because we all want a Scotsman to save us and lower the moon and that's what Ewan did for Isobel, he helped her find herself; Isobel is a famous violinist who runs away in the middle of a tour because she can't go on living the way she was living and while that's happening she gets stuck in the middle of a storm on the Scottish roads and that's where our hero comes in to save her and I liked how her story started, I liked how he didn't ask for explanations, he just knew right away that he had to help her.
I love the whole town, I count this book as "Found Family" because everyone welcomed Isobel more than warmly and took her in and protected her as if she had always lived there. The relationship between these two was slow but beautiful, I felt it was real and most of all I felt it in a way that gave me everything a couple should have, even though it was a short book. Drama? Nothing special. The good? EWAN IN A KILT AND A SWORD.
It was a good story, nice to pass the time, but with characters that will stay with you forever ❤️🩹
Thanks to Kait Nolan and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

There aren’t enough words to tell you how much I adore these kilted heroes! This talented wordsmith has a way of making them big, growly, protective, and eternally endearing with marshmallow hearts. So much so, I’m ready to run away to Scotland and find one for myself.
From outer appearances, it looks like Elizabeth Duncan has it all. She's a violin virtuoso who writes music that touches the soul and performs in sold-out concerts around the world. In reality, she has only her music, being under the tight control of the manager/agent her mother signed with when Elizabeth was twelve years old. When his rigid dominance begins to threaten her physical well-being, Elizabeth runs.
Her running gets her caught out on a deserted road in a thunderstorm, and when a tree crashes onto the car she driving, Ewan McBride rescues her and takes her to his home in a small village near Inverness. He tends to her wounds, realizes she's running from something, and vows to keep her safe.
In no time at all, Elizabeth, now Isobel, becomes part of the fabric of both the extended McBride family and the village of Glenlaig. Ewan's special forces training keeps Isobel safe, and the rag-tag family of The Stag's Head, Ewan's pub, welcome her as one of their own. But Isobel is always waiting for her past to catch up with her and destroy the new start she's made for herself.
Oh my heart, I love these two so, so much! What a treat to watch Isobel grow and gain confidence as she finds her footing and takes control of her life. And Ewan? Let's just say I’d be happy to have this perfect book boyfriend protecting me anytime! Then there's his group of friends and family, none of whom felt like strangers and accepted Isobel with open arms.
Settle in, get comfortable, and prepare to have your heartstrings expertly manipulated with this sweet, emotional, swoony romance. With themes of community, found family, new beginnings, and empowerment, this charming, heartwarming, phenomenal read is sure to please the romantic in all of us, so make sure you don’t miss it!
Great story, good characters, decent pace. I have read loads of Kait Nolan books and they'd usually get four stars this one looses two because of the Americanisms in the speech. The author goes to great pains to try and make the scottish dialect come across and so use ken instead of know (maybe too often!) and drops in classic Scottish terms like bawbag but ruins it by having Ewan say things like vacation. The London door man gives directions in terms of how many blocks she would need to walk, thats not going to work in London even if the doorman happened to be from the US! Also the idea that the Highlands of Scotland are filled with eligible men in kilts all day everyday is conpletely unbelievable but I try to go along with it for the purposes of a good story
⭐️ 4.25/5. The Kilted Hearts series has its next hero—a self-sufficient ex-military man who takes on the role of protector to our heroine—a famous violinist who runs away from her abusive manager. Ewan rescues Isabelle from a car crash as she’s trying to escape an abusive situation, and he brings her back to his small Scottish town to let her hide out and regroup. So much more develops though as he brings her into his world, and his family, and shows her what it’s like to have people who care about her—not just her money-making potential. I really enjoyed this storyline! The only thing that brought down the rating for me is that these were two virtually new characters so I didn’t have a deep connection to either of the main characters that was pre-established from the other books in the series. I had to build it from the ground up. This is fine, but I was really hoping this book would be about Kiara, Angus and Monroe, or Haymish and Afton. That being said, I really did enjoy Ewan and Isabelle’s story.
Ewan’s presence in the supporting cast of the earlier books in the series has been like a splinter to my imagination: I’ve desperately wanted to poke and prod and find out all about him. He’s kind of a big, growly bear of a hero, but there’s also a gooey marshmallow heart in there that completely melts when it comes to helping and/or protecting “his” people. And after digging her out from under a tree in a storm, Isobel became one of his people. My heart broke for the conditions her manager had imposed on her, but I loved to see the way Ewan coaxed her out her shell and helped her to discover freedom again. The ending was not at all what I was expecting, and now I’m more excited than ever to get my hands on the next book. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
My heart went out to Isobel/ Elizabeth who unintentionally her mother had given all control over her to Paul who was horrible after her mother’s death. She was a prodigy who played the violin like most people had never heard before. Even though Isobel was in her twenties, her manager Paul had all control over her concerning her music and livelihood. I was so glad the Isobel thought ahead to save money so she could get away unnoticed by Paul. Ewan was ex military and found Isobel wrecked on his way home one night. He was such a protector and he could tell she was abused physically and emotionally, so he decided he would protect her. It was heartbreaking how she never had a normal life with any friends. It was heartwarming watching her come out of her shell with the help of Ewan, his family, and the small town. There are some bumps in the road, even where I was afraid for Isobel at times. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
This was a quick listen and a great story. I thought the wheels were gonna fall off at the end, but thankfully they didn’t! I love the growth this author has had over the years - these stories have the right amount of romantic escapism balanced with realism. And those are my favorite kinds of stories!
SPICE LEVEL: Rated PG-13 / Only 1 descriptive sex scene, may have harsh language. CONTENT WARNING: past death of parents, Romantic Suspense related violence FEELS: 3/5 - You will definitely feel some feels. POV: Dual - M/F - 1st Person
MC’s Isobel & Ewan. She’s a professional violinist he’s an owner of a Pub. She’s fleeing danger and he rescues her. It’s a wonderful story. I just can’t get enough of these men in Kilts books. Kait Nolan is an amazing writer! Definitely 5 ⭐️’s from me. Great buddy read with my sister! 💜💜💜
Ewan and Isobel are absolutely perfect. A white knight and a heroine with amazing strength. This story was well worth waiting longer for Hamish and Afton’s story
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We meet famous violist Elizabeth who had been at the mercy of her manager for years but one evening before a concert she decided to run after he left a bruise. Not knowing where to go or what to do, she buys a cheap car and drives off. We meet former military and current bar owner Ewan on his way home in a storm to come across a woman in a car with a tree on top of it. Isobel gives Ewan her birth name as it isn't widely known. She tells him no hospitals and that she escaped an abusive work relationship. Scared as a mouse Ewan helps her and decided he'll keep her safe. Ewan gives her a job at the bar to keep an eye on her. Isobel hasn't had freedom before and is now treading unfamiliar territory. Ewan and his gang have been very supportive of her eventho they don't know her. So this is what it's like to have friends. A town event turns out to be not so good for Isobel and its time to hide until the storm has blown over....she basically blew her cover but with thr help of Ewan and his friends/family she has a fighting chance. Great read!!
Isobel (Elizabeth) knows this is her chance to get away from her increasingly controlling and dangerous manager, so she takes it and literally runs. Now she's somehow managed to find herself a stoic, gorgeous Scot who rescues her from a storm. Ewan may be stoic and grumpy, but he makes her feel the opposite of how her manager made her feel - safe and secure. She's having a hard time keeping her heart out of it, though, knowing that they haven't even labeled what they are to each other. Can this famous violinist and her ex Special Forces man be together, as opposite as they are?
Ewan thought he had been doing what he was supposed after leaving the military. But he was just coasting through life, until the day he rescued a woman who brought out all his strong protective tendencies. And now he's falling hard for her just as he realizes she's going to have to get back to her real life. He didn't do a good job of protecting his heart, even though he has yet to articulate his feelings to her.
Isobel and Ewan are my favorite couple in this series! She's so strong, such a fighter, with the biggest heart, one that's really only equaled by Ewan's. He's a study in contrasts - strong, rough around the edges on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, with a protector/rescuer's heart. This hot Scot and his beautiful violinist just made me love this series even more! Now I'm even more excited to read Hamish's story next.

Protector in a Kilt by Kait Nolan, book four in her Kilted Hearts series, is former special forces operative Ewan McBride and talented violinist Elizabeth (aka Isobel) Duncan’s story, the woman who claimed his heart. Elizabeth only has her music, as she is under tight control of the manager/agent her mother signed with when Elizabeth was twelve years old. When his strict authority threatens her physical well-being, Elizabeth runs away. Her running finds her on a deserted road in a thunderstorm, and having a tree crash onto the car she was driving; Ewan McBride discovers her and takes her to his home in a small village near Inverness. He tends to her wounds, and realizing she's running from something, vows to keep her safe. Ewan has felt adrift, haunted by his past and searching for purpose. Encountering Isobel brings out his caring heart and protective side, as Ewan knows he will risk everything to protect her and keep her safe.
Having been brave enough to leave and start over, Elizabeth, now Isobel, becomes part of both the extended McBride family and the village of Glenlaig. Ewan's special forces training keeps Isobel safe, and the rag-tag family of The Stag's Head, Ewan's pub, welcome her as one of their own; providing a place where she can belong, with a group of people offering her the love and support she has not had in a long time. As they get to know one another, lines are crossed; their chemistry sparks and sizzles, as love grows between Ewan and Isobel. But Isobel is always waiting for her past to catch up with her and destroy the new start she's made for herself. When danger does find them Ewan will do whatever he has to do keep her safe. Their journey toward healing, as they also find a deep and forever love, is moving and inspiring.
Ms. Nolan wrote an emotional, heartwarming story providing her characters with empowerment, resilience, and the redemptive power of love. With themes of community, found family, and new beginnings, this charming, heartwarming, phenomenal read is a must read. I highly recommend Protector in a Kilt to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Needing to take control of her life before she no longer can, Isobel makes the bold and desperate move to run from her abusive manager. With little money, no idea where to go and not much life experience other than playing concert halls, she finds herself on a deserted road in Scotland in a terrible storm.
After leaving the special forces, Ewan has moved back home and purchased a pub to run. But, most days he’s just going through the motions. He loves that his friends and family are close, but there is definitely something missing. When he comes upon an accident during a storm and rescues the woman who seems alone and needing all the help she can get, he realizes he may have found his purpose i n life again.
Ewan offers Isobel sanctuary and a place to start fresh in their small village. He also offers her protection, without asking the questions Isobel is afraid to answer. But the more time they spend together, the more both of them realize this wasn’t just a temporary spot for Isoble to find her footing again. When Isobel is ready to reclaim her life, will how different their worlds are pull apart the fragile relationship that has blossomed between them?
This series and these characters truly have my heart and Isobel and Ewan were no exception. Her bravery in making the bold decision to run, knowing she wouldn’t have help. Her willingness to trust and try new things when she has no reason to. Watching her find a family in Ewan and the rest of the village. Isobel quickly stole my heart. And, Ewan was the perfect protector. Offering shelter for not only her safety but also for her soul. Giving her battered emotions a place to heal and find love and friendship as she took the steps to reclaim what she wanted out of life.
Protector in a Kilt was a beautiful story in not only the romantic aspect, but also in how much love can come from a found family. I loved watching Ewan and Isobel come together to bring sunshine into one another's lives even as they battled the danger Isobel ran from in the first place as well as their own personal demons. 5 stars!
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in the Kilted Hearts series!
We’d met Ewan previously in earlier books and while reading Protector in a Kilt it felt as if he was just going through the motions, existing but not really living ….. until he met Isobel.
Isobel, she was genuinely lovely. Having lost her family and, to all extents, having been held captive, allowed only to focus on her craft, it was truly great seeing her slip into a new life in the village. Being treated like on of the locals and blossoming in her new found freedom.
This pair were exactly what they each needed but hadn’t realised they were missing. Saying that, is there something in the water in Glenlaig that makes all the blokes a bit dense at times?? Communication in a relationship, especially a new one, is vital, something these lads should be passing on to their mates as soon as they discover this nugget of information themselves!!!
The intrigue in the story made for good reading and while I understood why Isobel didn’t try to find out what was happening around her, I did think that natural human instinct to know what to expect would have been stronger - but having the chance to be ‘normal’ was possibly a bigger draw for her and I get that!!!
As ever with this series we catch up with family (both blood and found) who do their bit, helping out and protecting their own where they can. I think one of my favourite things about Kait’s books is that sense of family, community and belonging that she writes so well.
That epilogue. I can’t wait to see how things go for Ewan & Isobel going forward. There were a few wee comments made during the read and some new faces introduced and I’m hoping (with everything crossed) that we’re gonna either get a few more books in the series or a wee spin off to find out more about Ewan’s buddies.
This instalment ended on an interesting note that sets us up for Single Dad in a Kilt….. I cannot wait for Afton & Hamish’s story….. I’ve got so many questions that I need answered!!!!
A forced proximity romance with a hunky protective hero! I love a woman-in-trouble, forced proximity protector romance, so Protector in a Kilt was right up my alley. Having enjoyed other books in this series, I couldn't wait to read Isobel and Ewan's story, and I was not disappointed.
Known worldwide as Elizabeth Duncan, Isobel is a famous violinist and song writer whose devoted fans flock to her sold-out concerts. But she is strictly controlled by Paul, who's managed every aspect of her life and career since her mother died. When Paul's control becomes physical and he cruelly bruises her wrist, Isobel decides to escape and reclaim her life. While driving from London to Scotland during a fierce storm, she loses control of her car and is injured in the crash.
Enter our hero, Ewan, who removes her from the wrecked car and takes her to his house near the small town of Glenlaig, where he owns a popular pub. After Isobel recovers from the crash and her wrist heals, Ewan hires her to work as a waitress in his pub, while she continues to live with him as her protector. Naturally, their physical attraction morphs into a slow-burn romance, which leads to their first steamy scene at 70% in.
Isobel is falling in love with Ewan, but her newfound happiness doesn't last long. Implausibly, she's hidden her true identity from the residents of Glenlaig. But when she impulsively plays a violin during a Battle of the Bands rehearsal at the pub, someone films her performance and the video goes viral, racking up more than a million views in one day. Her cover is blown. Her legions of fans know where she's been hiding. Unfortunately, so does Paul. Ewan is a formidable protector, but can he save Isobel from Paul's cruel clutches? I'm not saying.
I enjoyed getting reacquainted with characters from other books in this series, many of whom play important roles in this story, including Connor, Kyla, Charlotte, and Hamish. As always, kudos for immersive Scottish settings, authentic accents, flawless proofreading, and those hunky Scottish heroes!
Protector in a Kilt Kilted Hearts, Book 4 By: Kait Nolan Narrated by: Tor Thom, Pippa Jayne
Well, I don't know where I have been, but this is my first Kait Nolan book, and I loved it! There is something about Ewan that immediately won my heart. Yes, he is a bit growly, but as I got to know him, realized he has a heart of gold. Isobel is a famous musician. Left in the custody of her manager after the death of her parents, she is abused and overworked. Taking life into her own hands, she runs away only to hit a tree with her car. Lucky for her, Ewan finds her and takes her back to his house to watch her overnight. There is an instant chemistry between them, and the persona Isobel has created for herself is easy to love. Not wanting to give any chance to being found, her new formed identity is taken in and loved by all around her. But what will happen when her past comes to haunt her? Will Ewan be able to keep her safe? I loved everything about this book. The family feel of the people, the way Ewan treats Isobel, the desperation for a normal life that she is looking for, it's all there keeping me enthralled and captivated. I loved this story, and now will go back to listen to the first 3 in the series!
And it can't get better than Pippa Jayne and Tor Thom to bring it all to life. These two in dual narration create the world I escaped in. Both used similar Scottish brogues which is fantastic, as it made listening smooth and easy to follow. Thom has a variety of characters, and every voice he created has a distinct sound, and the perfect accent. Jayne is all the wonderful women, easy to discern each Scottish accent and enjoy the personalities. This is a fun and engaging listen and is a pleasure to listen to.
Renowned violinist, Elizabeth Duncan (Isobel), can no longer deal with her manager’s cruelty and abuse. She makes a decision that will change her life.
Evan McBride, returning from a camping trip with his friends from his time in the Royal Marines, happens upon an accident in the middle of a terrible storm. He reaches out to assist the occupant. Little does he realize that he’s stumbled over someone who will impact his life in ways he never dreamed.
Fate brings the two together, but it’s up to them to figure out how to make it stick.
This was a quick, fun, and entertaining read. I loved the characters. They were perfectly matched, different in many ways, but wanting the same things out of life. The writing, as always from this author, was delightful. Having such a strong cast of characters, especially those in Ewan’s extended family, offered such wonderful support for both of them. Those characters add so much warmth to the story, every one of them. I also loved Havoc, Ewan’s sweet 130 pound dog, who instantly took to Isobel and helped her through some rough moments.
I loved this book, as I have all the others in this series. I look forward to Hamish’s story, which is the next one coming up in the series. I highly recommend this book and the entire Kilted Hearts series.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Kait Nolan's writing shines as she masterfully crafts the characters of Elizabeth Duncan and Ewan McBride. Elizabeth, a talented violinist trapped in a life of manipulation and fear, exudes vulnerability and strength in equal measure. Ewan, a former special forces operative, is a hero with a heart of gold, haunted by his past and searching for purpose. The chemistry between them crackles with intensity, and their individual journeys toward healing are both moving and inspiring.
The novel's setting, a small community with its own secrets and dynamics, adds depth to the story. The sense of camaraderie and support among the secondary characters enriches the narrative, creating a vivid backdrop against which Elizabeth and Ewan's love story unfolds. Nolan's vivid descriptions also breathe life into the surroundings, making you feel the stormy winds, the warmth of a cozy home, and the healing power of nature.
"Protector in a Kilt" is not just a romance; it's a tale of empowerment, resilience, and the redemptive power of love. Kait Nolan has skillfully combined suspenseful elements with tender, heartwarming moments, making this a book that's hard to put down. If you're in search of a story that will sweep you off your feet, tug at your heartstrings, and leave you with a sense of hope, then "Protector in a Kilt" is an absolute must-read. Nolan's storytelling prowess shines brightly in this captivating and beautifully written novel.
I loved, loved Ewan and Isobel’s damsel in distress, forced proximity, healing romance. It gave me all the swoony swoons while also pulling at my heartstrings with all the big feelings. Ewan is a former Royal Marine who moved back home after retiring. He owns a local bar and is content with his life even if it lacks color. Isobel is a world renowned violinist who’s afraid of the man controlling her life and feels like she’s living in a prison. The day she decides to disappear there is a horrible storm which results in a car accident. Ewan happens to be driving in the same storm, rescues Isobel and gives her a safe place to live and work. To get to their HEA, they need to deal with Isobel’s past and trust in their very real feelings in order to find a path forward together. I love alpha sexy guys who are kind, considerate and loving like Ewan. They make the best cinnamon roll heroes. The way Ewan gently, lovingly, and beautifully helped Isobel come out of her gilded cage, face her fears, find her inner strength, and begin to shine gave me all the big feels. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline with sweet moments, steam, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, and all the heart squeezing love. I am loving this series and the smexy kilted Scottish heroes. 4.5 stars
I enjoy this author whether she's writing as Kait Nolan or Harper Jackson.
The H is a famous violinist and her manager is becoming abusive. Without any planning she leaves right before a concert. She's in an accident and the H rescues her.
The H is former military and has gone back to his hometown to begin again. He stays in touch with his military buddies and they have some parts in this story.
Some physical violence only happened one time on page. I enjoyed the part of the boy and the h interacting at the hotel.
Great main and secondary characters. Romance is very slow and lovemaking outside - heat level 3.5 out of 5.
Some suspense, humor, misunderstanding that thankful didn't last long and a nice set up for the next story.
No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, some romance, HEA and a tad of spice. There is an epilogue but if you want more you can download an extended epilogue for free. I truly dislike having to do this, but I did.
When I went to the Amazon page there is a free prequel of this series, called JILTING THE KILT. It is a set up for the couple whose story follows this one Protector in a Kilt. This is book 4, and the couple in Jilting the Kilt will be in book 5. Just know, the author does warn the reader, Jilting the Kilt ends in a cliffhanger.
Crude words and the Lord's name used in vain. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase.
Ewan is a born protector. In kilt that he likes and wears some of the times. He's got great friends and town and family even though most of the time he doesn't wan their help. His favorite phrase was for them to butt out of his business. Elizabeth wishes she had family !!! Elizabeth was born free, until her life was turned over to her manager, agent who turned out to be a master manipulator who wouldn't let me make friends, or do anything that she WANTED to do ! Until, she finally said enough. She could see that he was starting to get dangerously more abusive and ran from him. The Highlands turns out to be the BEST place she could have run to. The whole place has her back even BEFORE they know her whole story or even her real name. She has them call her Isobel. There's been a whole lot of secrets that have been kept from her but they find their way out, especially towards the end of the book. Ewan and Elizabeth/Isobel weren't consciously looking for love or family but they really were ! The emotions, angst and how Elizabeth/Isobel's music expressed her deepest feelings was great ! The romance ! I enjoyed all of the book, it's supporting characters, Ewan's ma and dad. His sister and friends and their possible back and forth romances, some trying to re-capture their romance. I want to read this one again !I want to read them all in this series. Let's start with Ewan's sister first, please !
What a wonderful adventure Elizabeth/Isobel and Ewan's story was. I love that the author does a wonderful job of adding to the story with authentic Scotland slang and terms.
Isobel realized that the situation she was in was not a good one and she needed to remove herself no matter the cost. Once she was running, there was no looking back. Thanks to a protector finding her and taking her in she truly had a chance to find herself, to find a new way and to see how people really live. This making her miss her long gone family and the memories of the past. Longing for more than she has had the past many years but missing the world of music that made her feel close to those lost ones.
Ewan was not looking for anything, happy to have his simple life with his bar, his occasional work using his skills from the past. Isobel instills a strong protective streak when he finds her and realizes she is running, that someone has hurt her in the recent past. He never expected the draw to her. He never expected anything but wanted to give her a new start.
It was fun watching these characters connect and see how Ewan's family folded Isobel into their family as if she belonged. Add in the slight bit of mystery, will Isobel's threat find her and come for her?
A great addition to the series.

Elizabeth Duncan (Isobel) is a music artist that is being taken advantage of; her music and her money and she is a RUNAWAY! Not really, but she definitely has taken her future into her own hands even it is dangerous for her. Ewan McBride is getting by in his home town doing something he enjoys. They meet in a typical HEA way, something goes wrong and he comes to help her.
The story continues with Isobel in a new setting. She ends up in Ewan’s care and establishes herself into his life. She learns new things and she enjoys what she is doing and where she is. Ewan is falling under her spell. She is intriguing and he loves that about her. With the help of his sister, Ewan gets Isobel settled into a steady life of working in his family bar where Isobel develops friendships in the community and becomes a part of that community.
The interaction between all the characters, new and old, is wonderful. You cheer for and get angry at the characters. I always find myself immersed so much in the story that I feel like I know the characters personally. It is always sad when I finish one of Kati’s books because I just want to learn more and more. But Kait never fails and comes out with another story or another series and I’m sucked in again. I highly recommend this book.
Book four in the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from an alternating dual POV. Isobel (24) runs from an increasingly dangerous situation, abandoning her life as she knows it. Ewan (34) is the stoic, former special ops, bar owner. When he finds her injured after an accident, he takes her in and cannot resist the urge to protect her. I adored Isobel. She is an old soul who has lived mostly as an adult since she was 12. She is intelligent, creative, and determined to succeed. Ewan is one of my favorite kind of heroes. Big and burly, he is really a marshmallow where Isobel is concerned. As they fall into a domestic routine, I love that Isobel gets to experience the big, found family that Glenlaig has become. Ewan is romantic without trying or even realizing it. They come together physically in open door scenes that detail their passion and their romantic feelings for each other. Danger lurks, but Ewan is there for Isobel. This was a heart-warming read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Who can’t love a big Scot with a heart of gold and his woman who is stronger than she seems in the beginning? I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
