The Agent pursuing Jupiter, the enigmatic and stunningly beautiful Sierra Marland, conscripts Erland's help as the only one she can trust, and as Marland and Jupiter lock wits and wills in a fiery chess game of death and consequence, Erland is forced to walk the tightrope between justice, vengeance, and love. Post Read

The author graciously gifted me with a copy of his book - this book.
Whilst we maintain a great friendship and him turning up his nose on my smut novels, not to mention PREVENTING me from capturing Momoa *looks at Luke pointedly*, this review that you're about to read never affected at all. Not at all.

I promise.

I received this copy in November last year. As you see I finally just read it last week. I avoided it because Luke is a good friend. But he said on his email that he can take honest reviews.
Alrighty then.

*checks and saves email for future use.*

First page of the book and it HAS piqued my interest.
Who would've thought?
And I shit you not, the action was NON-STOP.

The story revolved around three characters: Sierra Marland, Mike Erland and the soulless hacker Jupiter and Marland's project, called CONSTANT.

Sierra Marland who is a special agent from Homeland Security, along with her team trying to capture and bring down Jupiter, a dangerous terrorist hacker and one who murdered her twin sister, Magnolia.

Mike Erland. An honest to goodness cop/detective from CPD.
Marland, herself, believed that Erland and his stellar record would be an asset in helping to solve the case.

Lawrence Alexander Fyforvsky aka Jupiter, the super villain, who ONLY wants money and power and kills everyone that gets in the way.

From the beginning til the end it’s the exhilarating chase and everyone's motive that kept me hooked. It didn’t matter that I knew who was doing what, it still had me reading until late in the night.

As a whole, this story had a little bit of everything. Apart from the pure chase and motive I've just mentioned, this had adventure, it had love story, it had intrigue, it had heartbreaking moments that made me emotional and was dumbstruck.
Luke didn't shy away and never hesitated to kill off his characters, no matter how important their roles were.

Let me also say that this is definitely breath of fresh air.
One would think that a story of this genre and was written by a male author would be rained on by a lot of profanities. I can attest that there was NO swearing, not even one - nothing, nada, zilch.
The love scenes - very tame and decent. Even historical romance do not sport this kind of romance Luke had penned here.
BUT IT WORKED.

A good hilarious scene was injected here too. It was something that I truly didn't expect.
In the midst of all the commotion, a commercial for erectile dysfunction pill came on.
It was SO out of place but very effective.

Now for the honest part of this review.
This book houses a staggering 720 pages and has a huge cast of characters.
Too many shifting viewpoints in the same scene kept me from identifying with any of the characters.
There were times I had to re-read paragraphs to figure out who was saying what.

Also, I know I've said many times that I like my heroine smart, has spine and confident. Sierra is all these.....and cocky too at least for me. She pulls rank, yes and she makes sure that everyone around her knows it.
And she was too beautiful. Every scene she graces with her presence are accompanied by how immaculately good looking she was.

“Silky black hair slender artistry of her figure, intelligent

Elegant smoothness, exotic eyes pleasant gleam

Sierra transmits a tremendous amount of confidence through her eyes.

Her startling feminity made her appear like some kind of exotic model.”

And so on and so forth.
Even when she was bogged down by everything and no sleep, her ethereal beauty was still evident.

*clicks tongue*

I didn't fully connect with her even though I shared her enthusiasm and struggle to capture Jupiter and applauded her persistence that no matter how hard her situation was, she didn't give up. Getting betrayed at every turn by colleagues who turned traitors is a no picnic experience.

Truth be told, I wanted more Erland. I wanted more Jupiter. Their characters were excellent and intriguing. I wanted their background stories.
I wanted to get to know Lowery more and Darren Reston.
Darren Reston who made me emotional.

And lastly, let me also applaud the author with his thoroughness and editing expertise. He wrote 720 pages book and I can't imagine how many words are involved here and managed to get away with 4 spelling errors.
720 pages is no small feat.

I wrote theses, theses that involve between 10,000 and 20,000 words.
And me? Pfffft. No biggie.
Not true story.
This is me after dayS writing 500 words in

4/5 Stars!

Summary:
This is an intense crime thriller filled with technology, deception and global issues. I have tried to come up with a summary but honestly, I suggest reading it on goodreads. Much cleaner and well written there.

Dislikes:
Sometimes I would get confused which PoV I was in only because there were quite a few and some of them led in with just page breaks so it took me a second.

Likes:
The intense characters, especially Marland. I grew to love her very quickly. I think the story was well written and Luke definitely has a talent with words. The story has some wonderful plot twists as well.

Overall:
If you love crime novels, this is one you have to experience. It is a chunker but it is definitely a detailed crime drama that is hard to put down. Thank you again to Luke for letting me read this.

Novel received from author to review

When I pulled this novel from my mailbox and realized it was over 700 pages, I groaned out loud! However, when I started reading, I couldn't put it down. The worst part was how heavy it was to carry with me!

This novel must be made into a movie. It certainly read like one. The story is very intricate but very easy to follow. There are many characters but they are not difficult to keep straight. This is a story of federal crime fighters mixing with local law enforcement to solve a crime that is larger than anyone could possibly imagine. I was enthralled with the story!

My only small complaint is with editing, not writing. There were mistakes that made me stop reading and re-read to decide what the author was actually saying.

I'm looking forward to more by Luke Taylor in the future. I'm also hoping to see this on the "big screen" soon!

Evening Wolves is a detective thriller by Luke Taylor centering on murder, deceit and the price of valuable stolen information. Our hero is Detective Michael Erland, trained in the study and solution of homicide cases, who wakes up right in the middle of one with no memory of what happened before that moment. A beautiful dead woman lies on the floor of Fircrest Mansion, and Michael escapes with a key in his underwear and few other clues as to how he came to be sleeping with the dead. When Agent Sierra Marland enters the fray as a somewhat dubious ally, the pair come face to face with the loathsome hacker known as Jupiter, and danger, death and high quality espionage are sure to follow.

Luke Taylor writes with great impact, moving his plot at a speedy rate to ensure there’s never a dull moment in Detective Erland’s adventures. The plot is suitably dark but not unnecessarily graphic, with complex characters full of well-formed back stories, and I enjoyed the interplay between Michael and the wily, beautiful Sierra. Evening Wolves mixes many different departments of the criminal justice system with seamless integration, making for a scene-shifting, multi-perspective narrative that is sure to thrill fans of the action and crime genres. The ending to the tale, however, shows real heart and full character development that all readers will enjoy, and I’d recommend Evening Wolves whole heartedly even to those who’ve never given the world of crime fiction a try before. Overall, an accomplished and enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book! It took me a long time to read and was a little hard at times to follow, but all of the different characters' points of view are very important to the story. I would definitely suggest reading this!
My favorite quote from this book is from Loomis: "...every so often if people are patient enough...and mature enough, they find that person that unlocks a secret in their heart, even if they've never laid eyes on each other...it's as if they already knew each other from a past life and they've been walking through amnesia waiting to remember what always was."

**NOTE: This is a book that I won through a goodreads giveaway**

I really loved the story, and Taylor does a really good job with describing everything. Some parts seemed to be a little over described to me, and that might turn some people off. But I felt that the description added an extra sense of deep world building. All of the characters were awesome and individuals, and I didn't feel like I was reading just any dime store mystery. Awesome job!

Evening Wolves by Luke Taylor is an intense political crime thriller. Detective Mike Erland is called to a mysterious murder scene at Fircrest Mansion, where the previous evening a Libertarian Party fundraiser was held. The only victim, a stunningly beautiful young woman, is found with a puncture wound to the neck. Their only suspect is the man who was in the room with the woman, but he has fled the scene. Before Erland can even begin to investigate, Homeland Security is called in and shuts down the scene. Placed on administrative leave, Erland is shocked when Agent Sierra Marland pulls him back into the investigation. Tangled together with a meddling journalist, a man with amnesia, a kidnapped party member, and a highly intelligent hacker, code named Jupiter, dark conspiracies begin to unfold, putting everyone with a connection to the case at risk.

Mr. Taylor has put a great deal of thought into this brilliant, gripping, tense thriller. Although the reader is exposed to many characters, each are unique enough to keep track of throughout the novel. I felt Agent Sierra Marland was exceptionally written, with multi-faceted layers. She kept so much inside, not allowing herself to feel much. The moments where she broke down her walls in front of Erland were very moving. I loved the interplay between the different agencies of the government as well. I enjoyed trying to figure out all the little details. Evening Wolves by Luke Taylor is sure to keep your attention and mind riveted from page one.

the Fircrest Mansion to find a murdered woman. The murder itself is suspicious, but with no finger prints of the murderer and no clues to the mystery, he is left baffled. Further investigation leads him to a road which is blocked by Homeland Security on one side and a hacker called Jupiter on the other side. Jupiter is a hacker and criminal who uses his talents to steal crucial information and then sell it to the highest bidder; what that person does with the information is not his business.

Luckily, Erland is not alone in this battle. The agent who is handling Jupiter’s case is gorgeous Sierra Marland who trusts Erland to a fault and only takes his help in the case. Little did they know that the two will make a bond that cannot be severed by injuries, death threats or even a maniac who is out there to kill them both! Will Michael and Sierra will be able to put an end to the terror instilled by Jupiter or will they pay the price for trying to protect innocent people from his devious schemes?

Evening Wolves was a great read with the perfect blend of thriller and mystery to keep me hooked. Once I started, I was not able to put it down until I finished it. Michael Erland is really cool and Sierra Marland is exactly what you expect a female agent to be. She is sassy, attractive and very, very brave. Plus, she keeps Erland on his toes for most of the time and I loved that. The overall mystery and suspense was enough to make me want to read it one more time.

While investigating a murder, Detective Mike Erland meets Sierra Marland, the murder victim’s twin. Both twins were trying to capture a rogue terrorist named Jupiter. When Sierra enlists Mike’s help in taking Jupiter down, it starts a domino effect of sorts in the destruction of Crescent city.

With plenty of action, mystery, and intrigue, I read this story almost non-stop. It was full of well-developed characters, and had a plot that drew me in from the start. There were several ways it could have played out, and I’m glad it went the way I was hoping it would. Being well-written, and making it nearly impossible to foresee each event that was going to happen, it kept me turning the pages, not wanting to miss the action. I can easily see why this book won an award.
