Angel's Wish: A heartwarming saga of family, love and new starts by the author of The Nursemaid's Secret
For fans of Katie Flynn and Sheila Jeffries, Angel's Secret is an uplifting novel from the Queen of family saga, and author of Bicycles and Blackberries, Sheila Newberry.
Suffolk, 1924.
After the death of her fiancé in the field hospitals of France, Angel becomes nurse to the MacDonald family in the small village of Uffasham.
Taking residence at the appropriately named Angel Inn, she is met by many new faces - and old ones, too. Edith, a fellow nurse from the war, while taking great interest in Angel's new life, refuses to let her forget her old one.
As Angel grows closer to her employer, Robert, Edith threatens to expose a secret that could ruin everything . . .
Can Angel ever be free to move on with her new life and her new family, or will the secrets of her past finally be revealed?
'Reading a Sheila Newberry book is like having dinner with your mother in her warm and cosy kitchen. You can feel the love and care put into every juicy morsel' - Diane Allen, bestselling author of For the Sake of Her Family
'I have long been a fan of Sheila Newberry's novels. I love their wonderful warmth and charm.' Maureen Lee, bestselling author of The Seven Streets of Liverpool

Angel is employed as a nurse for a little girl called Alice, who is part of the Macdonald family, they also run the local inn which is called The Angel Inn,
It is the 1920’s an Angel is still missing and grieving for her fiancé who died in France, while Angel was working in the hospital in France with her friend Edith.
None of the other nurses in France liked Edith but Angel is best friend with Edith and trusts her implicitly, and now Edith has found Angel a job near her looking after Alice Angel is overwhelmed with gratitude.
As Angel settles into her new life and job she starts enjoy her life again and meets lots of new friends that makes her feel safe and content.
But maybe not all is as it seems and the past is never far away!!
Great story with a plethora of characters that make the story interesting and intriguing, well written with also a feel good storyline.

The worst slow burn book I have ever read. All the secrets are revealed in chapter 39. Read the first 10 or so chapters and skimmed through the rest. Point story. Could have been less than 50 pages.

This is a portrait of life in Suffolk, in 1924 with the long shadow of the Great War hanging over everyone. A marriage breaks up and the husband engages a girl, Angel, to nurse / nanny his young child. At this time, we see that not enough fit men are around for all the work and women, and more women are going to work respectably.
We also get a glance at the posh life in London which is trying to get back to normal. People there look more prosperous, but in the countryside they can grow food for the hungry children.
The drama moves rather quietly, with secrets and lies, but I found the tale engaging and enjoyable.
I read an e-ARC from Fresh Fiction and Net Galley. This is an unbiased review.
