The latest gripping police procedural featuring Detective Chief Superintendent Henry Christie

When Charlie Wilder is released from prison he’s desperate to resume his life of crime. But when he discovers he’s been betrayed by his closest friends, Charlie’s rage turns to cold-blooded murder and an orgy of violence ensues …

As a gruesome turn of fate spins Henry Christie unwillingly into a collision course with Charlie, he finds himself pitted against one of the most brutal and dangerous individuals he has encountered in over thirty years as a cop.

Fleeing for his life through an unforgiving, harsh, man-made landscape, Henry has to draw on reserves of strength he never knew he had as he discovers there is only one way to beat Charlie Wilder and that is to deliver justice in the only way he understands – by meeting him head-on and taking him right to the very edge …

One of the best reads so far, the fact the book is set in a 48 hour period makes it incredibly fast paced and the different perspectives its told keeps the mystery going. Was very gruesome and contained large amounts of violence throughout, more so than most of the other books.

I've read other Henry Christie stories, but this one didn't work for me.The blurb spelled out the story (released from prison, ex-convict is betrayed by friends and goes on orgy of violence) so no surprises about how, or even really why, it unfolds. Just too much violence for me. And no redeeming features. Our hero Henry seems a little bland.

Only the 2nd book I've read in the Henry Christie mysteries and whoa, is this gruesome! Had to skip over some of the more nauseating passages of vicious evil behavior of the prime criminal, ugh. Bit confusing in parts as the story skips back and forth, prior actions then current actions, etc. But I'll probably give Henry Christie one more chance, as I did enjoy Low Profile

Another good Henry Christie novel by Oldham. About as violent a book as one will ever read.

It's not as much fun when you know who done it before everything starts. I considered dropping it, but I managed to finish. Not interested in any more.

Very gritty, very violent, and very little character development
