A dark prophecy binds Cora's fate to the fae realm-a world that would have been her doom if she hadn't escaped with her life. Now, she's determined to put destiny behind her and focus on her world, her kingdom, and her much-anticipated wedding.
But when dragons emerge from the veil between worlds, threatening her land with deadly flame, she must return to the fae and make allies of those who had once condemned her to die.
Yet, dragons and fae are the least of her foes. Her greatest enemy marches on her kingdom, and he won't stop until he controls fae magic. Fate and fire collide, but Cora isn't alone. She, Teryn, Mareleau, and Larylis each have a role to play in protecting two realms from an ancient king who can walk between worlds.
When the dust clears and the ashes settle, will the embers of hope remain?
Tessonja Odette is a Seattle-based author of fantasy romance, epic romantasy, and fairytale retellings. Her different series range from cozy fae romcoms to dark and twisty fantasy. In her books you’ll find witty banter, sizzling romance, and breathtaking magic. When she isn’t writing, she’s watching anime, squeezing her pets, or dancing to the music only she can hear.
ARC review - A bittersweet but satisfying conclusion to the Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae trilogy that is full of action, romance, and humor. (Series Average: 4.33/5)
Fun fact: this series was originally published as the Lela trilogy. The author is indie and she was never totally satisfied with the story so she straight up re-wrote it (which is badass). That’s something a trad author could never do and I love the freedom indie authors have over their own work. I never read the original trilogy but given how excellent this series is I cannot help but feel this was the right move.
The main conflict didn’t play out the way I thought it would. It subverted my expectations while also making sense and tying up loose ends nicely. The ending is bittersweet but at the same time everyone ends up where they should and in that way it’s satisfying.
I really enjoyed spending more time in the fae realm. The mood butterflies, the consequences of dragons sacrificing talons, and the concept of Veil were really clever and different. I liked all the different types of magic that existed between the Elvyn, Faeryn, and witches which also felt like a new take on a familiar idea.
Cora is one of my favorite FMC's ever. I felt her pain and immense sense of loss she felt at having her choice to be a mother taken from her. I understood the rage at having suffered needlessly due to another's mistake. She was so relatable in that way. That said, it's hinted that Cora may be able to break her curse but the reader never learns if she did and I was really hoping for more closure on that. Maybe the point was always meant to be that it didn't matter. That she came to terms with it and accepted it. However, I really wanted to see that wrong righted in a more concrete way. As a woman and a mother it broke my heart that her choice was taken from her.
Mareleau is the character that experienced the most growth over the course of the trilogy. She has transformed from a selfish, spoiled princess who only thought of herself into a friend, mother, and wife. She begins to reflect on the consequences of her past actions and own them. In opening her heart to others she learns to love herself. Her feelings really capture the joys and terrors of new motherhood well. Her character arc was one of the most rewarding of the series.
Valorre, Cora's unicorn familiar, is in top form in this book. He is vain, he swears with the wrong words, and he still harbors a massive crush on Teryn. He is a consistent source of comedic relief and genuinely heartfelt moments and one of the standout characters in a series of great characters.
The pacing was a bit off for me in the middle of the book when Cora and Mareleau depart for the Forest People. I struggled to stay as engaged during those chapters. That and Cora's curse being left more open-ended are my only issues I had with the book and neither of them were major issues. I really liked this book and this series as a whole and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes romantasy.
Side Notes: - Teryn and Cora get 3(!) scenes of varying spiciness and the first one happens very early on in the book. - I quite literally laughed and cried at the end of the book. (Alllllllll the feels, people)

AUTHOR'S NOTE: A Fate of Flame is officially live, which means the Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae trilogy is now complete!
This series is for you if you like… 🖤The slowest of slow burn romance that spans all three books (with major payoff in Book Three) 🔥Enemies-to-friends-to-lovers 🗡️ Stabby heroine 💧 Witches with sensory/elemental magic 🦄 Snarky unicorn companion 🐉 Dragons, elves, and fae 🖤Second-chance/forbidden romance (secondary couple) 🔥Strong female characters and female friendships 🗡️Morally gray characters with massive character growth
This epic romantasy trilogy means so much to me, as it has evolved from the very first book I wrote back when I was 18 (I’m 40 now, so this series is over twenty years in the making!) I’ve fallen in love with these characters more and more over two decades, and I’m so happy that Cora, Teryn, Mareleau, and Larylis have a complete saga for you to devour. I hope you love this epic conclusion as much as I do!
What a fantastic finish to the trilogy! I swear Tessonja’s writing really does get better with every book (and she’s already fantastic). This had so much heart, emotion, action, bittersweet moments, triumphant moments, funny moments, and sexy moments! Our slow burn finally pays off between Cora and Teryn! Cora’s internal struggles were the most real to me. While Mareleau’s character development over the series has been great, Cora is still my favorite and I really empathized with her struggles and resentment. Overall, really enjoyed this. Valorre is the absolute best unicorn companion ever and he had me in stitches so many times. I loved the references to her other series in the epilogue too! Definitely pick this up if you like magic, fae, political intrigues, battles, plus unicorns AND dragons!
This was the finale book in the trilogy and I found myself skimming a lot. I think it lost some of the magic and didn’t keep me nearly as engaged as the others, it was easy for me to put down. The story ends nicely with mostly everything tied up, but I was just a bit bored honestly.
Tessonja Odette's A Fate of Flames is the final book in her Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae and it was freaking epic. The magic was bigger, the plot deadlier (seriously, it was a high body count), there were plenty of revelations and gods the plot twists were of epic proportions and there were plenty. I was riveted. This book was darker than the previous two, there was lots of gasping and a couple of jaw-dropping moments.
My heart hurt for Cora, for all that she's endured. It was no easy path and at times I worried more about her emotional state than the danger she was in. I love Teryn and I love how he loves Cora with his entire being. He has gone through some unexpected changes and I like him all the more for it. Who surprised me most was Mareleau. I didn't start to hint at being okay with her until the second book. I like her now, which surprised me, don't get me wrong there were moments when I didn't but Mare is different and has grown on me.
Tessa has a unique magic system and the story introduced even more of it including the Elvyn magic. They were a frustrating group and I can see how things could go wrong with Darius but I enjoyed seeing more of their world and learning from more than one source point about the events of the past. War is coming but there is a bright spot, Valorre. The unicorn brings levity to any situation. He's hilarious and a true friend to Cora (his crush on Teryn is everything), I adore him.
A Fate of Flames was the conclusion I didn't see coming. Tessa did an excellent job creating a wondrous story filled with magic, complex characters, and even more complicated politics. The blend of magic and the mundane is what Tessa does best. I love Tessa's writing and while I'll miss Cora and the gang I'm looking forward to Tessa's new stuff.
OKay so the book was really good but the ending MAde me want to cry. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY NEVER SEE EACH OTHER EVER AGAIN. LET ME HAVE SOME NOAH AND CORA MOMENTS. SHE HEALD HIM FOR 2 LINES 2. I NEED A BOOK ABOUT THEM BOTH MEETING OR SOMTHING.
I seriously enjoyed this series and couldn't put these books down, and would give these a 4.5 star rating.
The final book of the Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae trilogy wraps up the story of Cora, Teryn, Larylis, and Marleau perfectly. There were moments where I was giggling and others where I was sitting on the edge of my seat stressed about how events were going to turn out. As all the pieces in the puzzle were coming together, and tensions were high. But it all works out in the end even if there is a slightly bittersweet ending. However, it's the best solution where everyone got what they wanted, while also ensuring there were no loose ends.
Plus, I loved how Marleau and Cora drew in their magic/confidence in order to make things right. Marleau didn't have to change who she was, and was able to use her tendency to manipulate to their advantage. While Cora learned she could acknowledge the anger and resentment she left over being falsely targeted without being a bad person. Plus, she stood up for herself and took what she wanted. Not that Marleau cared as she got something greater in return.
Also, I love the connection Cora and Valorre have. All the human-animal connections were great, but Valorre had a special place in my heart. Especially as he used incorrect swear words in a matter of 'being more refined' and his crush on Teryn.
I did receive an electronic copy of the book early (Advanced Reader's Copy/ARC) in exchange for a review but all thoughts are my own. Link to my full review of this book.
This was an epic conclusion to a really enjoyable romantic fantasy series. I have loved the character development and the growth of these characters especially, so if you like a character driven series, this is definitely one to pick up! I sometimes struggle with books that have multiple worlds, or portals as it can become confusing with the world building but Tessonja does it so well, the two realms are well built and clearly defined, as well as the plot explaining the being clear to follow and understand. If it's been a while since you read book two, I'd recommend a re-read to keep all the names clear in your mind, sometimes I found myself forgetting the minor details in some of the character's relationship, but it was still easy to follow and well-explained in case you had missed a detail from previous books. This definitely leans more towards epic fantasy than fantasy romance, though the romance is still present, the couples are separated for stretches of the book, so if you want a more romance heavy series this may not hit the spot for you.
If you like Epic Fantasy with romance sub-plots Magical creatures - dragons, unicorns etc Fated prophecies - but not what you expected Love rivals to found family Characters personal growth and maturing
This was a great ending to this series. Lots of peril and wondering who was going to make it out alive. I thought I was going to hate the tons of POV, but instead found the pacing of each switch to another character done really well. This last book was so busy gearing up for the end that I was worried it would be a hasty tie-off of all the loose ends. Again, I was surprised by how well things came together. I liked the explanation of how the magic worked too. The arc of each character's growth was great and endeared me to most of them. Valorre is by far my favorite character. I laughed out to most of his conversations. This was a great venture of a new author and I look forward to reading more of her work.
Breathtaking magic, fierce heroines, and slow burn romance – oh, and DRAGONS!
Had me at ‘Every kingdom has its spies’ A heroine, a queen, a villainess, and a witch all wrapped up into one. We’ve got some characters who can astral travel/worldwalk; we’ve got some characters who are clairaudient, claircognizant, or clairsentient. There are Charmweavers, Pathweavers, a Truthweaver, and Wardweavers; there are feathered dragons.
I like this little twist on “something borrowed, something blue” for the bride (representing the seven gods): Red beads for the Goddess of War, blue for Sea, green for Mercy, gold for Justice, black for Death, white for Creation, and pink for Love.
Not a “fave line”, but rather one that called to me: ‘…being surrounded by luxury yet impoverished at heart.’ It hints at some of the character development throughout this trilogy.
This book leaves me wanting to bottle the scent of moonbeams, saddle up my unicorn, and explore Faerwyvae.
I remember Tessonja’s To Carve a Fae Heart series being similar in pacing to this one. The first book was 6 stars, I ate it up. The second was definitely a 5. But this one took way too long to get to the action. I still enjoyed it a lot and I’m glad I own the series. I can still only tolerate Mareleau, but she at least grew on me 🤣 Cora and Teryn were everything. Teryn was like the Rowan Whitethorn of this series. The storyline was great, Valorre was the BEST side (unicorn) character, and I sobbed so much at the epilogues that my husband thought something was wrong with me lmao.
All in all, I love this series and recommend it. This one just didn’t hit the way the others did for me
Without a doubt, the best book in the trilogy. Tessonja Odette is a fantastic writer. She makes it seem effortless. I really love her writing. However, this book had a bit too much "info dumping". The lengthy dialogue explaining the background of people and places was a lot. Definitely bordering on Epic fantasy, which I am a big fan of, but a bit better overkill for the final book of a trilogy. I wish it had been spread out more evenly over the three books, or turned into a five book series. The "red herring" at the beginning was awesome. Honestly didn't see that coming, and considering how many books I read, I definitely should have predicted it. I have now read, and re-read all of Tessonja's books. I am anxiously waiting for the next!
This was a solid book and a solid end to the series. The writing is superb, and the characters and plot are great. We finally get some time (not much!) for our main couple, Cora and Teryn. And I felt like that really made a difference. They got to be together and lean on each other, and it was really nice. I’m still not completely sold on Mareleau, but she turned out to be pretty fierce by the end and I will always love a fierce queen. Cora on the other hand, really is a great main character. She is self-aware, brave and fierce as well. I loved following her journey. Teryn too. And I cannot stress enough how much an animal companion brings to a story! Valorre brings the comic relief and even Berol has a place in this story.
It's been a while since I read a book with such realistic characters and relationships and a wonderful message about how to accept the intrusive negative thoughts that are a part of us and move on from them despite how terrifying they seem.
This one led on really well from the second! I liked the conclusion that we got to the drama that was these characters' lives. I was shocked by that plot twist too and really felt for Cora 3 I got a little bit lost when it came to the Blood of Darius and who was who but I loved learning about Emylia, and Teryn's gift. Only 4 more Tessonja books and 2 novellas to go!
I wanted to love this, and I really think I put in a decent effort to, but I think there were just too many pieces that I couldn't connect to that it really really hindered me over all.
I hate, haaaated the plot point of Teryn's body being taken over. I understand that it pretty much had to be, because we needed little lady that was stuck in the crystal with him to just information dump for 200 (exaggeration, but also not really) pages and there was no other way to make that possible, but I still hated it.
I hated the teardown of Cora's character. She got some sweet powers, and that was great, but she also developed these super dark thoughts. Once she “accepted” that side of her, I was banking on her turning some kind of dark, and I was ready and prepared for it. But literally nothing happened. She just decided she NEEDED to be queen of Lela (because being queen of just one kingdom wasn't good enough) and no one else could, and that was THAT.
Also. I haven't liked Mareleu's character since she was introduced in book one. I'm about to walk into her Novella (for reasons unknown) even though I can't stand her as a character. And yeah, she had her whole redemption arc in this one, but too much was done and said to make me absolutely hate her through the rest of the series for the author to turn around in the last half of the third book and be like, wait! You should love her now, she's actually the hero. Mmmmm. Nope. No thanks.
This book felt like a whole new everything to me in this one. Book one was amazing, and I loved every second. Book 2 and 3 felt like they were written about different characters.
Arguably, this took me way too long to read. Especially because overall I really did enjoy this book. Maybe I read it at the wrong time because I felt like I wasn't engaged in this book as I should have been. I low-key felt that with the whole series though... the thing is that I can objectively say that this was a great series. It was unique and well written. It was intricately detailed and the plot was intriguing. The character development was beautifully done. Like this was objectively a really great series and really great ending to the series, but I just didn't get into it. I care about the characters but I won't miss them. I enjoyed being in this world, but I'm over it. I don't know why it's like this. The only complaint I really have is that for some reason the pacing seems so slow. Like, I love the details given in these books, but at the same time it seems like way too many details. I was skipping over scenes and parts because in the back of my mind I'm like "okay yeah we get it".
Other than that, I think everything was summed up so well in this final book. I really enjoyed how it all ended even if I am sad with how it life went for everyone afterwards. You'll have to read it to understand what I mean. I'm glad everyone is happy and all that with their life, but it still made me sad lol. I think this book did such a good job at being full circle. Even with the unicorn at the end. Like we were calling back things and plot points from the first book and it was so satisfying. I would recommend any one to read this because it truly was so unique to other fantasy books, but don't get deterred that it literally took me two weeks to read when I just don't think it should've lol
3 Stars for the series overall 2.5 stars for A Fate of Flame I really liked this series to begin with. I really liked the characters and the world building, and Tessonja Odette is an excellent storyteller. These are good, youngish adult maybe more new adult books. With that being said, there is just TOO much going on in this book series. There are dragons, unicorns, magic, crystals? Mind magic Elvyn worlds, Fae, prophecies, tournaments, witches, kingdoms, political intrigue, battles and much, much more. And all these things are great, if it is done well. There were times it felt like some of these aspects like the dragons for example came out of nowhere. All of sudden it was like there’s dragons now. Specifically in A Fate of Flame, there is too much info dump and back story build up at 75% of the book. We are almost at the end, why all of the sudden are there chapters (multiple) of info dump of the past. It almost felt like there should have been more books to spread everything out. This would have been a good series to build upon over maybe 5 or 6 books. Not to mention, each book is over 500 pages already. At times, it did feel like too much was going on and it felt heavy and confusing.
DNF'd at 50%. I liked the first book and the 2nd was alright, but as the story has gone on and been dragged out so much I just stopped caring about any of it.
I rarely review the entire series in one post but this trilogy is an incredible journey that took me to places I never saw coming. Each twist, every turn was a new and harrowing journey full of love and self-exploration. I don't have a favorite chara-okay it's Valorre!
This is my first exposure to Tessonja Odette and it not be my last. Her writing is flawless and kept me engaged from start to finish. She made me root for a character I truly despised for at least a book and a half. The character development alone is incredible. Each character faces several challenges and the growth they show is incredible. Mareleau’s is the most notable to me through the books. She almost reminds me of Regina from the show, Once Upon a Time. You love to hate her and then you just love her. Cora's journey is not an easy one, but her character values remain the same throughout she just grows into the best version of herself.
There are two simultaneous love stories and while both are different they are equally enjoyable. I think I will always favor Teryn and Cora's though. The love Teryn has is unparalleled, and his support of his wife is what all women want. My only complaint with Teryn is how often he is willing to give up his life. I will forever love how they love each other. Larylis and Mareleau's story is a bit different and a lot more lying went into getting their way but they do truly care for one another. The way they can truly be themselves with each other is a testament to that very love. The slow burn for both, and the build-up to each of their times together was done extremely well. By the end, I could not wait much longer!
The familiars, powers, and additional characters all help round out this amazing trilogy that any lover of fantasy should pick up! It is a once-in-a-lifetime story and you will be unable to put it down until you are finished!
This one was definitely weaker than them the first two, but still a gripping read in many parts.
Teran's new gift, Kora's battle with Darius, getting a look into characters of fae realm, marolyn's unexpected place in destiny. And man, does the latter change. She goes from a spoiled, selfish princess, to a more mature one. Is she still vain and shallow? Yes. But in a much more tempered way by the end. It's a slow progression.
Valor continues to serve as sweet comedic relief, and we get an end to Amelia 's story as well.
What wasn't done well, however, is how rushed and lack luster the ending was.
-- SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE ENDING--
why the heckedy heck did I read 3 entire books just to see our favorite characters separated forever. It was heartbreaking and honestly felt unnecessary. It just wasn't it for me. Did I expect deaths? Yes. But not forever separation of our four favorites alive. That hurt more than a character death, honestly.
Also, they never resolved Kora's curse. It's been a core issue throughout the series, and the ending was like "eh, whatever. We'll see where life takes us." excuse me?? ? Then why give it so much attention in the series?
I'm not sure if there is another follow up series coming as this was an older series of the author that was edited and republished recently, but I think it definitely needs one. Too many unanswered things, and the world building kind of jumps of a cliff at the end.
Overall though, despite my gripes about the end, a very enjoyable series. It's well written, and melds the romance and plot well in a way that feels right instead of just forced for the sake of a love story and sex scenes.
A Fate of Flame is the epic conclusion to the Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae trilogy. Like the other two books in the series this is a multi-pov book following the main characters Cora, Teryn, Larylis and Marleau (With a couple surprise POV's thrown in). Tessonja did an absolute fantastic job wrapping up this trilogy and it was definitely worth the wait.
If you've made it to this book in the trilogy then you know there are quite a few things up in the air, and while I felt the inclusion of our main big bad Darius was a bit short lived, the story has a satisfying conclusion and ties up our team's stories nicely.
This book had a lot of stress filled/ action packed events but Tessonja knows how to pace her story well, you have plenty of breathing room that still had significance to the story and fun moments to ease the high stakes (particularly involving Valorre). We get to the final growing stage for our characters, I appreciate the layers that were introduced, with self acceptance and learning to love yourself. To accept both the light and dark sides of your person and that it's ok to not be ok.
I don't want to dive into the workings of the story because I think it's best to go in blind, with only the knowledge presented to us from the story thus far. But trust me, this is an Epic conclusion that will leave you satisfied, if not a little solemn. I know I'm sad to see these characters go but I'm excited to see what else Tessonja has to offer, maybe a spin off series?
Thank you so much Tessonja Odette for an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Magic-filled conclusion of a richly built trilogy.
A few months have passed since the end of A Cage of Crystal, giving the characters time to get some rest and recover from their wounds. The first half of this book is more slow paced, giving the characters time to familiarise themselves with all the changes and twists (most of them I saw coming) that are happening upon them. There is also plenty of character development to be found (everyone has a dark side, but that doesn't necessarily make you evil) and relationships to be further explored. There are 4 main POVs, and a few other POVs that get one or two chapters each. These allow you to experience all aspects of the story properly. Did I mention there are dragons and unicorns? Nevertheless, it did take some effort for me to reach the halfway point. For some reason, I didn't get as drawn into the story as with Tessonja's other books (maybe because of all the inner monologue, the repetitive descriptions and recurring explanations?), couldn't empathize with the characters enough. But once I had only 150 more pages to go, it became a lot harder to put this book aside. The tension rises, it's now or never, will they succeed or not... Add some well written action scenes to that mix, and be prepared because you won't come out of this unscathed.
I absolutely loved this series. From start to finish, the overall story kept me completely engrossed, and the unexpected twists and turns continuously caught me off guard.
Teryn and Cora's relationship was an absolute delight. Their love story was incredibly heartwarming, and what I particularly enjoyed about this book was the deepening of their connection. We were treated to even more intimate and tender moments between them, which made their bond all the more special.
While I did find certain parts of the book to be a bit slow-paced at times, the characters themselves were absolutely phenomenal. Each one was so well-crafted and captivating, adding depth and richness to the story. And although there were challenges along the way, I appreciated that the author provided a satisfying and happy resolution for all the characters involved.
Overall, this series was a truly enjoyable experience for me. The compelling storyline, the beautifully developed romance, and the well-rounded characters all contributed to making it a memorable read. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a captivating and heartwarming story, as well as fans of Sarah J. Maas, Elise Kova, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Holly Black, and Leigh Bardugo.
This book was probably my favorite in the series. I don’t want to include any spoilers, so this is a very difficult review to write.
Between the relationships and the action of the storyline, I found myself needing to read “just one more chapter” fairly frequently. The book started out with Cora’s duty and responsibility, and you felt the frustration and other emotions as she proceeded.
When Teryn returned, I fell in love all over again. The anticipation, love, and respect between Cora and Teryn continues to grow. The fear they both feel in the relationship is so real, and is likely something we have all felt before!
I know I have said it in past reviews, but the characters TO creates, and the way she writes truly allows you to identify with them. Granted, I have zero magical abilities, but I’ve felt the fear and the anticipation of the unknown in love, and in life.
While this is the final book in the series, it most definitely did not disappoint. All the loose ends were tied up appropriately, and even though I want more of the story because I loved it so much, I felt satisfied with the way that it ended.
4.5 ⭐️ (rounded up) SERIES Review: This series has it ALL! Elves, Fae, Witches, Magical Creatures! Strong female characters fighting to overcome the historically patriarchal society and the male characters who support and love them. An absolutely hilarious and amazing unicorn familiar who I immediately want to be besties with. An evil sorcerer, a prophecy that sends people down all sorts of incorrect and heartbreaking paths. Tessonja has created a breathtaking fantasy world with complex characters that I can't help but want to come back to again and again.

Favorite Quotes: “Love was madness. Treacherous and beautiful all at once. It could start wars or end them. Could save a life or destroy it.”

Thank you to the author for this reading copy. My opinions are my own.
THIS IS BOOK 3. THERE WILL DEFINITELY BE SPOILERS BELOW.
Now that Morkai is dead and we know that who the real threat has been, the stakes have never been higher. Cora and her friends are preparing for Cora's wedding when the prophecy that has been looming over their heads finally comes true due to unforeseen circumstances. With the veil torn and the threat of an invading army poised to take control, our group of Heroes will have to fight to save their world and protect the ones they love most.
This is the final installment to the trilogy and I just did not care at all. I was so excited for dragons and for crazy magic and I hated the twist that saw everything happening the way it did. But the flipping of the prophecy felt very cheap? Like we have this buildup of Cora and then POOF it's not her? I just didn't care about any of the characters anymore. I wanted more on-page time between Cora and Teryn, but instead we just got nonsense with Mareleau and I lost interest really quickly with her character. Like hot damn did I hate Mareleau. I'm honestly kind of sad because book one was so good and I kind of regret finishing the series now, but I'm glad it's finally over.
