Rory Montgomery thought she had her whole life figured out. While she loved weddings and everything involved in them, she knew marriage wasn’t the path for her. She was happy casually dating. At least that’s what she thought until she met the beautiful, flirtatious Jenny Hanson at a wedding and her whole world was turned upside down.

Jenny didn’t have any plans of getting married either. It was the perfect formula for a lasting friendship, except for the fact that the two girls were highly attracted to each other and lived at opposite ends of the country.

As the two girls navigate through this friendship filled with plane rides, weddings, and lots of flirting, Rory begins to question if the life she always planned on is really what she wants.

Trough iheartlesfic.com and goodreads, I made up my mind and bought this book. It was only a buck so not going to cry although I felt like chucking it into the drain several times but since Vader Jr aka my Kindle will be joining it... both are safe and sound.
Have this happened to you?
You've got loads of veggies and other stuffs in the fridge and you were leaving home for quite some time. The Solution? Kitchen Sink Meals :]
My kids requested fried rice for dinner hence I made a kitchen sink fried rice, there were too many of the other stuffs than rice. My 12 year olds were okay with it as they were really hungry+used to my K.S.M but my 3 claimed that he was fasting and the youngest faked sleep in his highchair.
This story was just like my kitchen sink meals,
there were too many things going on, it even resembled the movie, Four Weddings and A Funeral. I don't think it's available on KU, but until the 14th of September, you can purchase it for a dollar. The book and I did not work out but maybe for you, it might have a space on your favorite shelf.

This book infuriates me. Jenny didn't want commitment because she couldn't get over a teenage trauma. Rory didn't want commitment for goodness knows what reason. I just spent the last few hours reading about two people who claim they didn't do love but was actually in love with each other for five years. And I feel like screaming into the book after the first half because I don't understand this at all. I also feel like I need a part two to this book. Is there a part two?

Anyway, I'm still rating this five-stars because despite everything, it was well written and I was sucked into the storyline.

3.25 stars. This book's main characters meet at a wedding. They're the only 2 single lesbians. They hit it off well but agree to be friends. The book then encompasses the next few years of unrequited love/ friendship and subsequent wedding dates as each others plus 1. A bit campy and sometimes whiny, but a decent read. Free on KU

Well, I loved it & bits of it reduced me to a depression that was all embracing. Reviewers are right, but it hit a cord with me, and what more can you ask for? Thank you.

This was sweet and so frustrating at the same time.

Both Jenny and Rory are such great women and their chemistry was/is amazing. They were so stubborn to talk about it and that was frustrating. It took enough weddings and time for the both of them to open their eyes/hearts.

The angst and longing was ever present and I kinda like that stuff... as long as Rory got the girl, which luckily for me, she does.

Decent one time. Sometimes people are either too oblivious to things and feelings or they take promises that have been made too seriously, even at the cost of burning themselves.
That's the gist of the two protagonists and the plot of this book.

I truly enjoyed the story. Would have liked the story to continue a short time after they were together. I couldn't understand why it took so long to say how they felt about each other.

dude she said her name wrong in the final confession that’s so embarrassing

okay so this is like a solid 2-2.5 because why was this literally so grating gosh im sorry!!!!

there was no reason for them to wait this long that did NOT need to be a slow burn like sure they had reasons for the commitment issues?? but man did they resolve REALLY QUICKLY when it was convenient for them too.

also why did this entire thing read like a wattpad novel, me six years ago would’ve ate this up but me six years ago also had really interesting taste.

third act I’m misunderstanding was so unnecessary and rushed it was not necessary.

the premise was cute!! wedding plus ones and that’s how they keep their friendship going is such a fun concept. execution wise I just really couldn’t care for them all that much yk?

also just gosh the overall writing style it really kicked me out of the story because we’re told practically everything because apparently she always remembers her entire life story when she zones out in random conversations to conveniently give us background information.

also that was one of the worst confessions I’ve ever read?? why is she spilling her feelings after pissing her off

also the whole high school outing from her situationship was really bad yikes but wow did that affect her so heavily that she didn’t ever date after that ever??

also it’s so convenient that our main girl has such a great job that gives her so much money and excuses to travel hello??

cannot believe she compared herself to bella swan from twilight in the third act breakup that was actually really funny to me

also of course they played cotton eyed joe at the wedding

how did so much happen in the span of 190 pages (right, because it wasn’t fleshed out at all)

it’s just gah it’s cramming so much in without fleshing it out and everything is tell not show it’s just not a fun time overall but hey I did keep reading it so points there??

she was also just really dramatic sometimes but it’s okay

also some of the wording at the beginning threw me off why are we calling them females

it’s just gahhhhhhhhh

really what did I expect from a book made in 2018

also the cover ! i like the Amazon cover better but not by much

I knew I shouldn’t have trusted a reddit comment from a year ago to recommend me good books!! but they said it was similar to this one book I really liked!! not naming it here because it’s actually a disservice to that book to compare it to this. whatever you can call this

sorry im just a d1 hater right now i feel bad for if the author ever reads this self publishing is rough
NO SHE DOES READ THE REVIEWS OH GOSH im so sorry let me just delete this all real quick

Cute

This is a thoroughly enjoyable story about life, love and the sometimes long and winding road to get to your HEA. The author did a really good job keeping me invested in the characters in the story. Well done!

This book was so good I read it in one sitting lol. Such a slow burner between friends who are just friends yea?! Their chemistry was so hot that by the time the slow burn turned into a fire, I needed a cold shower. Will read again.

Flirting With Love . . .

The most perfect couple together and yet neither Rory or Jenny want a relationship, so they choose to be BFFs rather than start a fling that would fizzle out. But flirting can’t hid their true feelings when they see each other at weddings as each other’s plus ones. The fact Rory and Jenny were so against being a couple, and yet everyone around them saw them as a couple made it a bit aggravating in that it’s so obvious just get together already kinda way, but their flirting and chemistry was super cute and hot so I wasn’t to bothered by how long it took them to finally just say yes to happiness.

Now my one issue was how Jenny was emotionally scared from a high school experience that honestly seemed over dramatized if only because the story was told from Rory’s perspective and we could see her growth but not so much from Jenny. If the story had been done with some of Jenny’s perspective or if Jenny had a more of a troubled past kinda like Rory did, perhaps I’d bought the no relationships thing more from Jenny.

Oh and a big fun moment was one wedding Jenny and Rory attended was none other than Rebecca and Cassie’s from Erica Lee’s previous novel “Life Begins With You: A Lesbian Romance Novel”, which I thought was a nice little connection.

So I have to give this five stars for the story, four stars for the writing. Just because… Erica Lee’s writing is much more polished now, six years later. So there were a few things that I know would be different if it had been written today… Still, I don’t want to focus on that.

The story was a wonderful slow burn… I mean, it was a little comical how Rory and Jenny were still in denial while literally every single person around them called them girlfriends. But I can’t lie, I adore the angst of a good slow burn, and this had it in spades. Plus it was fun and funny, with just enough of the unexpected, and overall a joy to read.

Just… give me a few more chapters at the end, is all. At least an epilogue? That’s one of the things I know would be different today. :)

Note: as one of the events in the story, this basically contains an additional epilogue for Life Begins With You… so best to read that one first.

Ruby Montgomery meets Jenny Hanson when their cousins marry each other. Both women work together to make the wedding reception more fun and entertaining. It strikes up the beginning of a friendship where they talk or FaceTime almost daily as they go about living their lives. Neither is interested in marriage and because they live on different coasts this can't be friends with benefits. It follow them as they meet up over the years at weddings, family visits and even a funeral. Of course they both eventually are attracted to each other. But this is a very slow burn romance. I liked both characters but the reason for the average rating is the payoff seems very weak after waiting for so long for them to be together. And the last thing that keeps them apart feels like one manipulation too many. I did like that one of the weddings they attend was Rebecca and Cassie's from Life Begins With You which I had just read. This is a clean book with one off the page interlude.

Plus 1 begins with a meet-cute between wedding guests Rory and Jenny who each have a reputation as the “fun guest” at social events. Their relationship builds slowly over several years as they communicate via text and video chat while sporadically meeting in person at weddings. For separate reasons they are each reluctant to commit to a relationship, even though they are effectively in one. The process of getting closer and then pulling themselves apart occurs many times. At first this is reasonable angst but eventually just becomes tiresome. After dragging the story arc through several iterations, the entire thing resolves itself very quickly in a few paragraphs. There is a “blink and you miss it” quality to the end that left this reader feeling a little let down. The tale is well written, but the conclusion is less than satisfying.

So, I'm super bummed to give this one a three star rating. The concept is super cute (kind of 27 Dresses but happier), and the characters are both great.

Buuut it's let down more than a little by the actual writing, which felt really rushed. A lot of details and conversations were glossed over with just barebone detail, making it all feel more like a report than a novel.

Which might've been okay on its own, since the characters make up for it, but the main moment of conflict at the end of the book just felt so rushed and sloppy all the way through to the end.

The book just ended up feeling totally overshadowed by what it could've been.

Torn between a rating of 3.5 and 4.5. The story itself is great. Content is pretty PG-13, so YMMV on that aspect. However, THE NEED WITH WHICH THIS BOOK NEEDED AN EDITOR! You have things that a spellcheck would have caught, but it obviously wasn't used. One line says to "put the breaks" on something. I mean, c'mon. Drove me up the wall. Incase is a company, "in case" is how it should be styled. Proper usage of hyphens and capitalization is apparently optional.
Also, the ending felt incredibly rushed and needed another chapter worth of material, and perhaps an epilogue.
Read it, but do so with something intoxicating.

A bit irritated by how perfect the characters thought they were. However that may be a British self deprecation thing. The characters grew on me. Loved the "so many walls trump would be jealous line"! It probably should be 3 stars but I’ll give it 4 as an inoffensive, nice book. Not much depth but passes the time without fault.

Loved it

I read a lot of romance books and enjoy them all. But this book was different. I laughed and cried and then laughed some more. There is not one thing about this story that I didn't love. I am about to start another of your books now. If it is anywhere near as good as "Plus 1" you have a fan for life . Thank you.👍

I loved this book! In typical lesfic fashion, there are obstacles and not enough communication, but the reasons felt plausible to me. And the characters were so great that I couldn’t help falling in love with them. No angst, thank the heavens. Just right for escapist reading. Not very steamy but the flirty chemistry was off the chart. 😏

Good Story

I liked the book and the characters but it took way to long and too much angst in my opinion for them to end up together. As a reader you never actually get to experience them as a couple and the story line expands through years and years of will they won’t they. Thats the only part of the story that felt short for me.

I found the story to be very interesting. The reality is that there are many folks who have been hurt and will do anything to avoid it happening again.
I believe Ms Lee was spot on in her telling of this story. I am glad that it did have a positive happy ending.

Must read

I wonder if Jenny will give Rory another chance to make everything better? I know Jenny loves Rory way too much to push her away. Rory moved to LA to be close to Jenny if that’s not love than what is it?

a true love story

The buildup took a while, but I liked that Jenny and Rory started out as friends, the the relationship evolved from there. I wish there was more at the end though. Rory and Jenny planning their own wedding or something.

Really good story.

Good story, good characters, plausible, believable. The ending seemed like a bit of an afterthought, however. That is honestly my only criticism.
