The Wyoming Cowboy #5

Her Christmas Cowboy: Wyoming Cowboy Series, Book 5

Rate this book
Caleb Watson has been crushing on elementary school teacher Amy Mckinney ever since he saw her. She's oblivious to his feelings - probably because he's never said a word to her. But when he learns Amy's going to be Mrs. Claus in the local Christmas celebration, he volunteers to be Santa so he'll finally have the chance to introduce himself. Even more than that, he'll use this opportunity to shower her with presents.

Amy's been receiving all kinds of Secret Santa gifts at work - and she has no idea who her secret admirer is. She wishes he'd make himself known so they can go on a date, though, because being a newcomer in close-knit Painted Barrel, Wyoming, is pretty lonely. When her flaky landlord claims he's the gift giver...it's not quite the bachelor Amy had in mind. However, she's doubly shocked when gruff newcomer Caleb Watson crashes her date and insists he's really the one leaving her presents.

Amy's not sure what to think. Caleb's never indicated that he likes her, much less wants to date. Can he prove to Amy he's not just the perfect Santa to her Mrs. Claus, but the man of her dreams?

Contains mature themes.

This is a pen name for Jill Myles.

Jill Myles has been an incurable romantic since childhood. She reads all the 'naughty parts' of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.

After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.

I started this a hundred percent excited about the premise, a strong, bearded and brawny cowboy getting totally tongue-tied around the small town's school teacher? Yes please! So much so he finds himself agreeing to be part of the school Christmas carnival in full Santa cosplay with Amy, the school teacher as his Mrs. Santa? Bring it!

Admittedly the whole setup was super cute, if you're into that kind of thing. I especially enjoyed witnessing Caleb trying to get the teacher's attention, going to his brothers—as inadequate when it comes to dating as he is— for advice was fun and endearing. Caleb is the epitome of the strong silent type, he is a great listener, has an equally protective and caring streak and is a thoughtful gift giver, alas, he is prone to lose any composure next to this woman he's having a major crush on. For all his eagerness to please and woo Amy, the man is pretty much a vault about his emotions, which makes all his gestures and attempts at flirting awkward and misconceived. It was both endearing and painful to watch! Poor Caleb!

Sadly I had a hard time with the heroine's perpetual need to be rescued and naive act. Fresh out from an abusive relationship, Amy is starting things up anew in Painted Barrel as the elementary school teacher. I couldn't warm up to her constant state of disarray. Her neverending struggles to find her footing was a bit of a turn-off for me, I wish she had been more resourceful, less clueless and less dependent of Caleb somehow.

Overall I enjoyed my time in Painted BarrelCaleb and Amy were cute (and hot) together in this Christmas themed romance. I'm very much looking forward to read about the third brother, Jack, the lady's man. ;)

Caleb Watson is the younger brother of Hank, from the previous romance, and we’re treated to his and Amy’s romance here in Her Christmas Cowboy. I loved every minute!

The minute Caleb laid eyes on Amy, Painted Barrel’s kindergarten teacher, Caleb knew she was the woman for him. Now if Caleb could ever get a sentence out that made sense, his dreams of being with Amy might come true. It seems every time he opens his mouth everything gets twisted up and he makes a fool of himself. However, Amy is pretty patient, and she seems to get that Caleb, like his brother Hank, has some issues interacting with people.

I’m loving Jessica Clare’s Wyoming Cowboy series, and the last couple of books with these shy cowboys from Alaska have melted my heart! I will say to have a little patience with Caleb and Amy’s romance because it does take some time before Caleb makes any headway. An assumption about some of Amy’s secret-admirer-gifts leads to a bit of confusion that pauses their progress, but I just adored these two together even when they got their signals crossed. Caleb is such a sweetheart, and Amy was a girl in need of a good man as the last one gave out Sleeping with the Enemy vibes! Yikes!

Now I’m dying to start the next Wyoming Cowboys story which centers on Jack Watson, the more outgoing, sort of ladies’ man of the brothers!

Jessica Clare never disappoints, and is one of those rare authors who can sell you any trope, regardless how cliche-y or overdone it might sound, because nothing about her stories is formulaic or predictable. The heroine is a young divorcee who has fled her comfortable city life to become a school teacher in small town Wyoming, but Amy's independence has come at a price. She is broke, lonely, and living in a house that is collapsing around her. Enter hunky cowboy Caleb Watson, who's been smitten with the heroine ever since he first laid eyes on her, but being extremely shy and socially awkward with the opposite sex, the only way Caleb can show Amy how he feels is by being there when she needs him the most. It's such a trope-heavy story—virgin hero, secret admirer, love at first sight—yet every single thing about it felt fresh and exciting and perfectly timed. I simply adored it!

5 Cowboy stars!!

It’s been a while since I finished a book in a day! This just hit that sweet spot, and I couldn’t stop. It was everything I needed..so savory. I am in LOVE with a cowboy, named Caleb. He was everything. A pure cinnamon roll if I’ve ever read one. This was my first Jessica Clare book, and I’m so happy that I have all her cowboy books!

“Caleb was just a tongue-tied cowboy who was terrible with women.”

I love that Caleb stuttered sue to nervousness around women. Having lived most of his life in Alaska, the man wasn’t around many. Oh but when he met Amy, everything changed for him, and he began to see his future. That first kiss at 27 that he shared with Amy was fire! This had the right amount of slow burn build up, and then full steam ahead. Caleb is my favorite type of alpha, and so protective. I love how his stammer left the more he fell for Amy, and became relaxed.

“She wore no makeup, the flaws in her skin visible, but to him, she was utterly gorgeous. She’d look like this when he woke her up, he realized, and it filled him with yearning. He wanted to be the one in bed with her, to give her a cup of coffee every morning. To lean over and kiss her before she got out of bed, because she was his and he wanted her to start every day knowing that.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Just look at me when I touch you,” Caleb murmured. “I want to watch your face.”

You know when I actually call my bestie to gush over a book, that means I LOVED IT! I will definitely buy this one in paperback! Caleb & Amy 4ever!!!

This rating is mostly for Caleb - I thought he was just the cutest, shyest cowboy ever and just the kind of cinnamon roll verging into protective alpha I love. I enjoyed seeing him work through his social anxiety to get what he wanted. Amy was a bit TSTL but I could deal with that in the context of being incredibly sheltered and being fresh out of an emotionally abusive relationship. All in all, very cute and I just love a small town Christmas setting whenever I can get it

Sweet N spicy with a hot cowboy to boot! Yes, please!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This story, and the series which are standalones for the most part, feature socially awkward men and their attempts at finding the woman of their dreams.
The story is about Caleb and I think he’s the most awkward of them all. There were several parts in the story that I thought if that was me he was trying to impress or even speak to I may not have listened!
Not only was he socially awkward he was practically speechless much of the time. You actually feel terrible for this poor guy.
He happens to fall head over heels with the brand new teacher in town. She’s struggling fresh off of a divorce and learning how to take care of herself. He does what he does best and that is work and help her out of many tough situations.
The story is sweet, compassionate and the author certainly did a wonderful job crafting this cowboy. He perfectly balances her needs not to mention he is definitely a hot cowboy.
Entertaining, sexy, fun, and empowering, Clare nails it in this sweet Christmas story.
All the books in this series are a strong 3.5-4 stars to me, but #s 7 and this one, #5, are my favorite. It’s funny and sweet, and treats its socially anxious, tongue-tied, inexperienced guy with matter-of-fact respect and affection. Plus it’s hard to not love a romance book that includes a joke about the Donner Party.
Loved this starting over, holiday-themed treat!
I didn’t know how much I was in the mood for a Christmas cowboy until I read Caleb and Amy’s story! I started reading and didn’t come up for air until it was all so wonderfully done…
Amy was starting over and, with little resources, was scrambling to make it work. Caleb was an unexpected guardian angel/cowboy and she wasn’t sure what to make of his (beyond) quiet demeanor. What she did know for sure was suddenly she was the recipient of secret Santa gifts that just kept on coming… Caleb’s inner monologue gave me just the insight I needed to reconcile his aloof exterior to the heart of gold that lay beneath. His approach was heartfelt and sincere yet so completely unsure he quickly burrowed his own corner in my heart…
Sweet, unexpected and oh so entertaining, Amy and Caleb’s story was love and compassion and all out holiday fun. Not sure why I never visited this series before but I know I will be catching up on all the Watson brothers I missed as I wait impatiently for Jack’s story! ~Diane, 5 stars
This is the third book in this series and I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the others. Add in that this was set around Christmas time and it was a real treat!
I thought that Caleb and Amy were adorable together! These two had so many cute moments and made me smile so much with their interactions!
"Because he’d known the very first time he saw Amy McKinney that he was going to marry her. Now he just had to convince her…"
What you should know is that Caleb had no communication skills, especially when it came to women. Throw in that he basically fell in love with Amy when he first saw her and it was basically funny moments waiting to happen. It was hilarious to read about him squirming and saying the wrong things to Amy. Reading about him finding his voice was a good time.
While this was cute, I did have an issue in the way Amy immediately wilted when back in her ex-husband's space. It made me wonder if she was still single would she just have caved and went back with him. It seemed like she didn’t have a backbone until Caleb was there. It didn’t seem really good for her character growth.
Besides that, it was a good addition to the series and I can’t wait for Jack’s book.
Caleb Watson lived for many years in a remote and wilds part of Alaska with his brothers. Months ago, the siblings arrived to their uncle's ranch in Painted Barrel to help him with the work and what was supposed to be a temporary stay became a permanent thing when one of them fell in love with a local and the same thing happened with Caleb. It's just that in his case, he didn't tell the woman yet that for him, it was love at first sight. The funny thing is that Caleb can do anything, except starting a conversation with a lady. So talking to one he have feeling for, it's too much to ask for the shy and tongue-tied man. His grunting answers have her thinking he doesn't like her.
Amy McKinney is not a Wyoming native either. A divorcee, she left the big cities and accepted rural school paychecks to get over her ex's managing her life and also to have time to get to know her students and connect with them. When she talks about the School Christmas Carnival with an other teacher, no one is more surprised than her to hear Caleb Watson, the big, strong and silent type, volunteer to be the Mr. Claus to her Mrs. Claus. Does the man realize he'll have to talk to the kids and talk to her in the first place? And what's with all the Secret Santa gifts she's been receiving lately?
It's no secret I adore this series and this book was a marvelous addition! From the heroine struggling to gain financial independence and self-confidence, from the blind dog she rescue, the adorably socially-awkward hero with a heart of gold, the hero's brothers offering dating advices and the Christmas spirit, I loved everything about this book!
A predictable cozy Christmas cowboy romance!
Caleb is painfully shy around women, and not all that open even around his brothers. But the moment he saw new local school teacher Amy, he knew she was the woman for him. Problem is he can’t manage much more than a grunt when face-to-face with her, and when he DOES try to speak he garbles the words and comes out with unintended awkward (or downright rude) comments. But he volunteers to play Santa to Amy’s Mrs Claus for the sake of the town’s children. Maybe once he gets to know her, he’ll find a way to speak to her.
Of course, there’s at least one jerk in the picture, and Amy, recovering from a bad divorce, is vulnerable. But Caleb is just so sweet and considerate and always comes to her rescue. It’s inevitable that they’ll get together and the sex will be incredible for both of them (despite the fact that he’s a virgin and has no idea at all what he’s doing).
Well, what did you expect? It’s a Christmas Cowboy Romance … capital ‘C’ and capital ‘R’. Fun to read and a great escape.
This one ended up just being okay, I liked the first cowboy Christmas one in the series more! Basically if you want some cute, charming, small town, cowboy, Christmas romances…these do deliver though! And they audios are on hoopla so that is a plus.
In this one the hero has been into the heroine since the first time he saw her. He’s new in town after moving from Alaska to Wyoming and she’s an elementary school teacher. He’s quiet and doesn’t know how to talk to her and makes it awkward any time he is around her, so instead he sticks to acts of service and gifts to show his love. He gives her a bunch of thoughtful and needed gifts via “secret Santa” and when someone else in town tries to take credit for his gifts to her, he hops in.
The hero was cute in a quiet, “I don’t know how to talk to women”, kind of way. He’s gruff but sweet with his gestures and helping her out. She is dealing with an toxic ex throughout the story.
After loving The Cowboy Under the Mistletoe but HATING The Cowboy and His Baby, I wasn't sure where this one would land. Oh Jessica Clare, I knew you could do it! This one is amazing. Seriously. I loved so much about it. Caleb, cowboy on his uncle's Wyoming ranch, has loved elementary school teacher, Amy since he first laid eyes on her. Yet, his crippling shyness has made it love from afar until he impulsively volunteers to be Santa to her Mrs. Claus at the elementary school holiday carnival. I had to overlook a few real world inaccuracies (like how you become a teacher without student teaching) which knocked off a star, but I loved it despite a few necessary glossed over plot points. Caleb's interaction with his uncle and brothers was some of my favorite parts of the book as they try to help him with his relationship. Swoon worthy!
Clare always have fun cute cowboy stories.
Here we have Caleb, a quiet, very quiet cowboy that never speaks to women. Poor man, he was more than shy, and he just fell so hard and wanted to try so much.
Amy was sweet too, but she has a difficult past that haunts her. And all she wants is to stand on her own two legs.
These two were so cute together and I wanted the best for them. Wrap it up with a holiday feeling, which is the best feeling.
Great narrator, that I have listened to before. She brings just the right feeling to the theme and voices
Jessica Clare’s The Wyoming Cowboy series is one of my favorite contemporary romances these days and her latest, Her Christmas Cowboy, is a warm, sweet holiday story that was a delight. Amy McKinney is the kindergarten teacher in Painted Barrel and is trying to live her life independently but is having a difficult time making it happen. Newly divorced, Amy is struggling financially to make ends meet and lives in a dump of an apartment and drives an old klunker. Caleb Watson fell in love with Amy at first sight and would do anything to get her to notice him, even if it means to volunteer to be Santa Claus. One problem. He gets seriously tongue-tied around women. With advice from his brother Jack, Caleb pushes himself to help Amy; drive her to work as he fixes her car, become a handyman and fix things in her apartment and secretly give her gifts to get her to notice him. When he finds out that there is another secret Santa admirer, he has to up his efforts and push himself out of his comfort zone.
I love it when the characters develop and overcome obstacles in their lives in order to find happiness and love with another individual. Caleb had his work cut out for him and you could see how hard he tried when the words would come out jumbled or not come out at all. But once he found his voice he said the sweetest things. And did the sweetest things. Amy didn’t want to go into another relationship so soon after being in a totally controlling situation again. She had a lot to learn herself, and hit some stumbling blocks, but she did persevere once she realized that Caleb was nothing like her ex. The characters grew over the course of the story and it was truly a wonderful ending to have it come full circle over the course of a year. Her Christmas Cowboy is a sweet, warm, comfortable romance that you will thoroughly enjoy for the holiday season.
Her Christmas Cowboy is the latest book in Jessica Clare’s Wyoming Cowboy series which is fast becoming a favorite series of mine. I’ve previously reviewed The Cowboy Meets his match and was excited to find Clare’s work to be both heartfelt and steamy. I may have mentioned this before, but I’m obsessed with Christmas. Like puts up her tree before Thanksgiving kind of obsessed with Christmas. So when I saw Clare had another Christmas story for her Wyoming series (heads up there are two other Christmas titles in this series) I of course jumped at the chance to review it.
This story is about Caleb Watson a rough cowboy who’s developed a crush on the town’s pretty teacher Amy McKinney. For Caleb, it was nearly love at first sight, but he has trouble speaking to Amy and on top of that she was a recent divorce which made him hold back a bit. I love how strong and silent Caleb was so gone for Amy that he was willing to get over some tough issues for himself to show her his feelings. Clare does an excellent job of showing enough to Caleb’s issues to make you feel for him, but not so much that it overwhelms the story.
Amy was a wonderful match for Caleb her grit and determination complement his. She’s decided to divorce her husband because he treats her like a possession. When her parents throw a fit and state they want nothing to do with her because of the divorce, she accepts it and moves on. She doesn’t let anyone pressure her into keeping up with a marriage that makes her miserable and I loved her for that.
These two end up spending time together first because they’ve volunteered to be Santa and Mrs. Clause at the Christmas Carnival. When Amy needs help around her rental she calls on Caleb for help, and of course, he comes to her aid. It was kind of funny to watch these two as he was too shy to admit his feelings and she thought his one-word answers were kind of odd. Little does she know that he’s been acting as her secret Santa as well as volunteering for the Carnival all as a means to get closer to her. When these two finally get through all the shyness and misunderstandings their romance is sweet, but whoo man do they also heat up the bedroom.
This book isn’t just a holiday romance, it’s a story of love and overcoming your fears to get the one thing in life you really want. I think any romance reader is going to have a huge soft spot for Caleb. After all, who doesn’t love a strong silent type that’s secretly pining for his woman? Not this girl! This book was like if Hallmark decided to get a little naughty and had an extra glass of wine with dinner. There’s plenty of steam to keep even this picky reader happy, but it’s not at the loss of a truly sweet and satisfying love story.
I loved this book. I will definitely re-read it, it's a keeper shelf book.
The moment the hero sees her, he's in love. But he's so shy as he grew up in a cabin with his brothers and father and never spoke to women, that every time he speaks to her it comes out in a terrible way.
The hero wooed her. He left her thoughtful gifts and wrote her love notes. All he wanted was for her to be happy.
Her apartment is a junk hole and the hero helps her fix the hole in her roof and her leaking faucet and the broken thermostat, etc.
I love how in love with her the hero was.
It can’t, in good conscience, rate this book. I did finish it, which counts for something. This is NOT my preferred genre, but I wanted a festive audiobook and the pickings on Libby were slim, to say the least. I love Wyoming, cowboys, and Christmas. This book has those. I hate predictable plots, helpless female protagonists, and romance in general. So, this just wasn’t for me. For the record, I don’t think the writing was atrocious. The entire last 30% was basically a s*x scene. I know there are people who actually enjoy this genre, but why?
Wow. This book is everything. My wee grinchy heart is full and I'm wearing a stupid, goofy smile. This book has it's funny moments, is super cute in other's, and has sexy, steamy moments, too. Caleb is a big bear of a guy, super sweet, sexy, and his stumbling over words is equally endearingly cute and funny. I'm thrilled I bought this in paperback. I'm definitely rereading this soon.
“I don’t want to own you. I don’t want to smother you down or make you be something you don’t want to be. I just want to be with you.”
I could not resist the lure of Her Christmas Cowboy. A silent, shy mountain of a cowboy and the new-in-town, pretty teacher he’s in love with? Umm, give it to me right now.
This one didn’t disappoint either. I’m absolutely mad for Caleb—the outwardly rough and tough former Alaskan wild-man who gets terribly tongue-tied around women. It was sweet and awkwardly funny (in a good way!) and downright fun to read about his plans for his school teacher. His thoughtful and supportiveness made him the perfect book boyfriend alone.
Amy, aforementioned teacher, is almost as likable as Caleb. On the whole, I enjoyed seeing her find (or struggle to find) her feet, and there was noticeable growth in her character. She was a good match for quiet Caleb, and together, they’re just plain irresistible!
I couldn’t put this book down once I got started, honestly. It was so charming and feel good, I wanted to keep reading—so I did. All through a Saturday afternoon and well into the evening. Alas, I got to the end all too quickly because of my impatience and now must wait for Jack’s book. Which can’t come soon enough, in my estimation.
