When a disappearing dog leads to a decades-old feud, will this psychic sleuth settle the score?
Mitzy Moon is bending over backward to be a good big sister. Spending a day at the pet invention convention seems harmless enough. But when puppy love turns into vanishing canines and a vengeful ghost, she’ll have to bend a few laws before more furry friends are spirited away….
Ignoring the handsome sheriff’s warnings about evidence that cuts both ways, Mitzy’s desperation drives her to make daring decisions. Unfortunately, one crime leads to two and her carelessness puts Ghost-ma and her interfering feline in danger. And with her family threatened by dangerous powers, her dreams of a happy ending could become a ghastly nightmare.
Can Mitzy save the pooch and her grandmother, or will she be forced to make a deadly choice?

USA Today Bestselling author Trixie Silvertale grew up reading an endless supply of Lilian Jackson Braun, Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew novels. She loves the amateur sleuths in cozy mysteries and and obsesses about all things paranormal. Those two passions unite in her Mitzy Moon Mysteries, and she's thrilled to write them and share them with you.
Hearts and Dark Arts is Book 12 in the Mitzy Moon series by Trixie Silvertale. I can't believe its up to 12 books, I absolutely LOVE this series so much!
Mitzy is loving being a new big sister to Stellen. Stellen has a friend Yolo who has created a machine that can see the auras of animals. How cool is that? Well , maybe not so cool when things GO really badly.
Will Stellen and her new friend Yolo find romance ? I was crossing my fingers.
The mystery was really great and I loved how it wasn't traditional and I really enjoyed following the clues.
I do very much enjoy the romance between Mitzy and Ercik and it has progressed nicely and its very sweet.
This was such a fantastic book, I love this series so much and can't wait for more!
Mitzy is loving being a big sister today to her step-brother, Stellen. Stellen likes a cute girl named Yolo so when her project needs repaired Mitzy helps them buy time for Stellen to get the parts. Once the machine is repaired something else goes wrong Yolo’s dog goes missing. Mitzy and Stellen realize this isn’t your typical dog napping but a supernatural one and enlist the help of Mitzy’s mentor Silas. These events lead to a bigger issue that Mitzy can’t afford to lose.
This is such a fun paranormal cozy. Mitzy is my favorite human character, her cat Pyewacket is my favorite. Mitzy is full of snark, passion, and smarts. She makes for the perfect main character. Mitzy’s and Erick’s relationship is developing nicely. Pyewacket wasn’t in that much in this installment but the parts he was in were a roller coaster of emotions, from worry or laughter. The setting of Pin Cheryl Harbor fills my love of small towns. The mystery is a fast ride full of twists and turns and surprises. I must read if you like humorous paranormal cozy mysteries.
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator does a fantastic job in capturing Mitzy’s personality. She is a wonderful storyteller. You can lose yourself in the story even when you can not physically read the book yourself.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been influenced by anyone.
First sentence and I’m already fully immersed into the story, and that’s a gift! By now, I know how utterly amazing this series is, but still, every time I start a new book, I’m blown away by the writing style, this author truly is such a wizard with words! (Can you say wizard for a woman? Well, magician, then!)
Not a traditional murder mystery whodunit, but a different kind of case. The circumstances make the story unique, fresh, interesting and very entertaining!
Get on board now, because this really is one series you don’t want to miss out on!
I know every time I read one of these books it will be better than the last. As a reader, I'm hooked. As a writer, I strive to be this good. Without a doubt, Trixie Silvertale is my favourite cozy writer. There's something about the flow of the Mitzy Moon books that pull you in from the first page to the last. I love this story, Stellen is a great addition, as is Yolo. They bring another dimension as two younger characters and even make Mitzy seem a little 'mumsy' she has moved up a notch in her responsibilities. I think it's a great idea to give them their own series. So, in this episode we have something a little different. When Lolo's dog gets nabbed and ends up in the ghostly realm the team work together with a plan to dognap him back. Then things take a turn for the worse. Ghostma is nabbed. Who has her and what do they want? Will things ever get back to the way they were? At a slow pace, Mitzy and Sheriff Erick creep towards a deeper relationship. Hurdles keep them apart, but it isn't for the want of trying. What deep secret does Mitzy discover about her beloved Grandma? There's plenty going on in Hearts and Dark Arts. Go, Silas! I want to know what he is really capable of.
Another fun book. Trixie Silvertale has given us another chance to visit PinCherry and get to know more about Mitzy Moon and the rest of the gang. This one features her new brother and his new friend. The start of the story centers around them, a ghost, and the loss of a dog. After the safe return of the dog, things start to get interesting from a weekend getaway and young love plus a really yummy sheriff, in the words of Ghost-ma, things happen that upset weekend plans plus the reuniting a mother with her sons. All will be explained if you decide to read this next book in the Mitzy Moonseries.
Mitzi’s new brother is cute ( note to Author- an adopted sibling is NOT a step sibling🙄🙄🙄 )Seances, ghost dogs, family drama, a missing Ghostma and more
If you like quick wit with a side of snark, movie references, ghostly drama, intrigue and interpersonal drama then you will absolutely fall in love with this series! Mitzy Moon is a hilarious heroine with a sharp tongue and quick wit with a side of psychic ability to help unravel the mysteries that fall on her local community. Great interactions with multiple characters makes this an absolutely must read series. The narrator does such an outstanding job of giving voice to the characters and bringing their emotions to life that you feel that you are right there with them rather than simply listening to a book about them. I absolutely can not wait for the next book to be available on audio so I can listen to it and see what twists and turns are in store for us!
This book is amazing. I really thought Trixie couldn't have outdone herself with hopes and slippery slopes, but then she goes and does this! Join Mitzy and crew as they dive headfirst into another mystery in a story where nothing is as it seems in this book as a dog dissappear out of thin air, and a long standing feud causes chaos for Mitzy when ghostma goes missing. Make sure to have plenty of reading time as you won't want to put this story down. Maybe have a tissue handy if you're susceptible to onions being cut too 😉
I ended up jumping from Book 3 to 12 of the series. Not ideal, as I really do love reading in order. However, no major secrets from previous books are spilled and I had no problem adjusting to the jump forward. In that sense, I can safely say that these books work as stand alone.
Jumping forward did allow me to notice the character growth in Mitzy. It’s so wonderfully subtle yet very much present. I think the author does a great job in allowing her heroine to shed some of her insecurities from her former life. At the same time, she remains true to herself. The new heiress never forgets where she came from and remains grounded despite the luxuries available to her. She certainly uses her good fortune to help others… and if she uses it to get herself out of a some scrapes along the way…. ah well, she generally means well!
The mysteries of this novel aren’t necessarily related but one does lead to the other. One thing to note is that these mysteries are most certainly more on the paranormal side. Starting with the first part of the mystery which is actually the kidnapping of Mitzy’s brother’s girlfriend’s dog… lots of apostrophes there! Bricklin is an energetic fur baby who dutifully helps his mistress, Yolo, with her pet aura photography invention. However, he ends up kidnapped by an angry and lonely ghost. Mitzy, her brother and Yolo work together, with some hep from alchemist, Silas, to retrieve Bricklin. Their actions, however, lead to another problem when an old enemy surfaces and ghostnaps Mitizy’s grandma! This story is definitely not short on drama and intrigue! The final showdown in this case is quite entertaining and maybe even a little moving. Things are certainly shaken up a bit!
I think it’s obvious from the description of the mystery that this story and series employ some very creative world building. I love how Trixie manages to overlay the imaginative paranormal world over far more ordinary small town life. The mix creates a charming but intriguing setting.
Oh and the romance is certainly on. Looks like Mitzy’s love life is on the up and stable!
Overall, this was a fantastic story that kept my attention from beginning to end with its fantastical elements and endearing characters. I
The author always finishes her books with if her fans are willing to keep writing reviews than she is willing to live in Pin Cherry Harbor forever. Yeah!! That's good news for fans like me because I love her books and this book is no exception. Pin Cherry Harbor is a magical place where anything can happen and usual does. This adventure takes lots of twist as the story unfolds and with no murder involved it takes a unique twist and one that will have far reaching consequences for the rest of the series. I liked the introduction of Mitzy's step brother in the last book and was pleased to see things are looking up for him, yes please a spin off series for him would be fun. The rest of the characters are there usual fun selves and Mitzy has really grown as a character. There isn't really a mystery as such as we know who is responsible pretty quickly and it is more of a case of Mitzy trying to figure out how to solve the situations she finds herself in, such as finding a missing dog or rescuing a kidnapped ghostma. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens. Mitzy moon as an only child for most of her life she is loving her new role as a big sister. So when her brother is late for a lift because a friends science project runs late, instead of getting cross she decides to help the young love birds. The problem accures when she turns on the machine and instead of taking a picture her dog disappears. Mitzy needs to help a ghost in order to get the dog back but in doing so she puts Ghost-ma in harm's way. Now Mitzy needs to go up against an old enemy of her Grandmas or risk losing her for ever. Will she have to cancel her Valentines day plans with the Too hot to handle Sheriff in order to save Ghost-ma? I like the narrator for the series, as she can express so much with just the power of her voice. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This series just gets better and better! I wish I lived in Pin Cherry Harbor so I could meet all these wonderful characters! I’d certainly eat at Myrtle’s every day and just enjoy the charm of a small town.
Trixie- what can I say but I just love her stories and creativity! I finished the book in one sitting because I just couldn’t leave it until the next day! The stories are so interesting and the characters- well they’re something else! Mitzy is a hoot and Ghost Grams, let’s just say you’ll love her to death which is okay because she’s already dead!
It starts out innocently enough until the unexpected happens and Mitzy’s right there to get to the bottom of the trouble and with Silas they determine what went wrong and devise a plan to bring a puppy back that had just vanished in front of their eyes!
Now doesn’t that make you want to pick up this book and see what happened and how it is solved! By the way the book that went missing in the last book is also involved in this story as well as a most unforeseen catastrophe occurs to our lovable Ghost Grams!
Pick up this book today and when you’re done why not get the entire series and see how and what brought Mitzy to Pin Cherry Harbor and enjoy all her adventures and misadventures with Ghost Grams and Pyewacket! Do you know what the best thing about this series is? Well I’ll tell you-YOU will feel so much better after you read these books!!The stresses of the day will be put on the back burner while you are caught up in stories that will make you laugh, cry keep you on the edge of your seat and groan if you have to stop reading because of an emergency that may pop up.
Trixie I give you a spatula salute and I can’t wait to find out what happens in lucky book thirteen!!
The 12th book and I just cannot get enough of these cozy mysteries. They are such a fun and easy read and Mitzy is a real hoot. This time round whilst trying to help out her step brother Stellen during a pet convention and doing her best to set him up with a cute girlfriend called Yolo she stumbles into another mystery which needs solving as Yolo's dog disappears. Both Mitzy and Stellen can see ghosts and it seems a ghost from the past is behind this disappearance so Mitzy has to really use her extra sensory magical powers, which are forever getting stronger to solve this mystery. However in this book this is not the only mystery she is called upon to solve and the other is much closer to her heart and has her really worried she might be losing the person she is closest to in her life. So can she get one ghost to cross over, and another to stay? Obviously as usual her hunk of a boyfriend sheriff Erick Harper is helping her all he can, and her intrepid caracal Pyewacket, as usual comes up with the necessary clues. Pin Cherry Harbour seems like the idyllic town to live in where there is a strong sense of community, however it is not as peaceful as it seems at first glance and the goings on keep Mitzy on her toes. Roll on book 13!
I am always excited when a new Mitzy Moon book releases. This series is fun to read, and the characters all feel like family.
With this latest book in the series, I was eager to find out how Stellen, a new character introduced in the last book, was fitting in with the Duncan family. Mitzy is taking her duties as a “big sister” seriously. A love interest for Stellen is introduced with the addition of adorable Yolo. I love the slow advancement in the romance between Trixie and Sheriff Erick. But there is another new character introduced at the police station, Deputy Candy, that gives me the chills. Definitely not a likeable character. I am sure there will be more from him in future installments of the series.
Mitzy has a way of stumbling into mysteries. But this time Mitzy’s attempt to solve one mystery leads her to another, possibly more deadly, mystery. A woman from Ghost-ma’s past reappears and puts Silas’ skills to a test. I was on the edge of my seat throughout much of this book.
Full of wit, suspenseful, ultimately heartwarming. I am always eager for my visit to Pin Cherry Harbor. I am ready for Book 13!!
Mitzy and Erick are becoming closer. That means that Mitzy has to be completely honest with him. No matter how crazy things get and he doesn't fully believe in ghosts and such. Mitzy is enjoying having a brother and when he needs help finding his friend's lost dog, she is glad to help. The problem is that a ghost has kidnapped the dog and they have to get him back. That's kind of the easy part. They need a camera that belongs to the gypsy woman that has had a feud with Mitzy's grandmother for a long time. Even though her grandmother is dead, the gypsy doesn't care, she will keep it going. When her grandmother's ghost is kidnapped, Mitzy has to figure out how to get her back. When she does, will her grandmother be able to stay in the bookstore? Or will she have to move on? Mitzy and her grandmother have to make a big decision.
I just love this entire series, and this book fit right in! It was slightly different than the other books, but just as good. The characters, setting, and stories continue to impress. I love love love the ending!!! No spoilers but my heart was melting!
This is my absolute favorite series. This is book 12 and it didn’t disappoint. Grams gets ghostnapped and Mitzy has to get her back. Can she get it done before her Valentine getaway with her boyfriend. Sheriff Harper. This is a definite must read. I hope this series never ends.
Things are heating up for Mitzy and the hunky sheriff! Join Mitzy for a special Valentine’s adventure. Simply the best paranormal cozy series I’ve ever read!
Much has changed for Mitzy Moon since moving to Pin Cherry Harbor. She has gained a family including an adopted brother, entered a serious relationship, and become well acquainted with the ghost of her grandmother! From broke barista to heiress and psychic.
What sort of Valentine’s mischief will befall her? Come to Pin Cherry Harbor, visit the Bell, Book and Candle bookstore and meet Pyewacket, Mitzy’s half wild caracal. Your life may never be the same again.
I simply adore these books. I started and finished this one in less than 24 hours because I can’t get enough of Mitzy and her adventures! I’ll be counting down the days until the next one!!
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Mitzy Moon has an adopted younger brother named Stellen, and she finds that she loves being a big sister! Stellen’s friend, Jo Jo, has entered an interesting exhibit in a competition, and he’s helping her set it up. When Jo Jo’s dog disappears, though, things start to get crazy, which always seems to happen when Mitzy is around (of course, she is there too!). Now the three of them have to find the dog.
But that’s not the only mystery and not the worst thing to happen. Grams is kidnapped! Mitzy is beside herself with feelings of loss, and she’s determined to get her back no matter the cost.
Mitzy and her sheriff boyfriend, Erick, are getting closer now that he’s accepted that she sees ghosts. He’s so funny! He still doesn’t believe in ghosts, but he believes Mitzy can see them…I can’t quite wrap my head around that one. Their relationship is heating up, but it’s still sweet. Their interactions can be quite entertaining.
The characters in the Mitzy Moon Mysteries are unique, flawed, and loveable. Mitzy is smart, hilarious, and determined. Stellen is smart and a good kid. Jo Jo is adorable and super smart. The two of them go well together. I like the addition of Stellen and Jo Jo, and I hope to see them in future books.
Hearts & Dark Arts is another fun paranormal mystery with suspense and a touch of romance. Mitzy continues to grow and has opened her heart to several people now. She’s learning to trust others and has even told several people about her grams’s ghost. That’s a big change! Although this book stands on its own, I recommend reading all of the books in order to get the most out of the series.
This is book 12 in the Mitzy Moon series, and you might want to read the stories in order just because they’re so good!! In this story we do have reoccurring characters, so it’s better you know their backstory. Stellan comes to the aid of a girl that he has a secret crush on and helps her with her invention at the pet invention convention. Yolo is just as smart as Stellan is and loves pets as much as she does. As a matter of fact, she’s invented a machine that can take a picture of your pet’s aura which she can then read. When the day of the convention dawns, there’s a problem with her machine, and Stellan races out to find the part she needs to get the machine running again. When it’s back running though, something unbelievable happens and it seems that a ghost kidnaps her dog. Yup, you read that correctly. In order to attempt to get the poor puppy back, Mitzy gets involved and things start happening that only happen to Mitzy. This time we have the gypsy kidnapping Ghostma and harming Pyewacket. Will Stellan and Doc Ledo be able to save Pyewacket? Will Mitzy and Silas be able to save Ghostma? Will Stellan, Yolo, and Mitzy be able to rescue Yolo’s puppy? There’s a lot of ball’s up in the air with this book, but the author does a wonderful job answering all of the questions and getting everything tied up and answered. They may not be the answers we want, but they are answered. This series has been a wonderful read, I’ve loved everyone. Great writing, great characters, and a great series. I recommend for everyone who loves paranormal cozy mysteries. **I read using my Kindle Unlimited subscription
Perfect for Valentine’s Day, the theme running in the background.
I read Books 1-3 then jumped to Book 12, not realizing the timely Valentine’s Day theme in the background. I can appreciate now that Mitzy has relaxed a bit with her newly acquired financial situation. She’s enjoying her circumstances and the “new” family she’s inherited.
One new family member is step-brother Stellen, who is smitten with Yolo. He goes to a convention with Yolo where her pet aura photography invention goes awry with her fur baby inside. Obviously, the pet may be off in the ether somewhere and Stellen enlists the aid of Mitzy who also enlists the aid of Silas, an aging alchemist and her mentor.
Fixing the machine doesn’t solve all the problems, however, as it gets seriously more complicated when not only Pyewacket but her Ghost-ma also disappears.
Mitzy uses the growing sense of her paranormal abilities to work on returning Ghost-ma from an old enemy.
I enjoy the small quiet atmosphere of Pin Cherry Harbor and the inhabitants, going about their business rather oblivious to the paranormal maneuvering at the bookstore and her descriptive upstairs apartment. It’s magical, engaging, and very entertaining.
I downloaded a copy of this audiobook from my local well-stocked library. These are my honest thoughts. 4.5 stars
This is my favorite series. I love watching Mitzy grow. If you haven’t read any of the series, Mitzy is the main character. When we first met she was a bit jaded and bitter from being in the foster care system. You have to be tough to survive. Through an inheritance she discovers family. With each book we see her shed that thick skin and grow into a lovely person. In this book Mitzy is really enjoying her new role as big sister. Stellen also seems to be enjoying having a sister. When Stellen’s friend Yolo invents a machine to see animal auras, Mitzy sees some sparks for Stellen and Yolo. Before she can dish out sisterly advice on love, things with the aura machine take a bad turn. It looks like things will get worse before they get better. With Valentine’s Day looming will Cupid’s arrows hit anyone? I loved reading this so much! I am enjoying the brother/sister banter. Having a two part mystery in one book was fun. I must admit though I needed Kleenex for this one. There are some heart felt moments that touched me. I enjoyed Mitzy and Erick moving closer. I do think it’s time for Mitzy to trust in love and allow some progression in their relationship. Having it come so close I realized how much I want it. You can read the series in any order you like. I think, after the third book, it is really more enjoyable to read them in sequence. If you enjoy mysteries with a bit of magic this will become a favorite. Make time to read this!
Book twelve in the Mitzy Moon series and although I know I'm going to love the writing style, I'm still being blown away by it every time!
In this book we see a new, developing relationship between Mitzy's new fosterbrother and his girlfriend Yolo and it's so nice to see how that goes. Yolo is a great new character who can interpret the auras of animals, which does go wrong, which tore at my heartstrings a lot.
At about half way through the book I was sobbing with the perfect description of love for an animal. The mystery is somewhat different from a normale cozy mystery and I loved this new avenue of possibilities.
And just when you think and wonder if the mystery is over, half way through the book, your heart gets torn in two again and you embark on a new rollercoaster ride in which your heart gets mended in the most beautiful way as well!
It really baffles me that each book just gets better and better. I don't know how she does it! This was another great book and I'm certain the rest of the series will be as great, can't wait!
In a moment of reflection Mitzi Moon remembers when an old man showed up at her door in Arizona with a briefcase holding a will, cash and a key. This was the day her life changed forever. Now living in Pin Cherry Harbor, almost Canada, she has found a family. She now has a grandmother, granted she is a ghost Mitzi lovingly call Ghost-ma, a caracal named Pyewacket, who, thank goodness, has many lives, and a father she never knew. And now, after a series of past events, she has a new stepbrother. When her stepbrother asks for assistance with a school friend, things get complicated. Now Mitzi has to worry about a camera, her grandmother’s nemesis and what to do for Valentine’s Day with her boyfriend. I love this series, with magic interwoven in all aspects of Mitzi’s life. I hope Mitzi’s adventures never end. I am here for all of them. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Just when you think it isn't possible . . . Silvertale ups the ante!!!
Book Twelve of this fun paranormal cozy series sees Ghost-ma in trouble. The kinda trouble she might not come back from! Mitzy has to fix it, but . . . can she fix it in time?
Hearts & Dark Arts introduces a couple of new characters - some of which may even stay in Almost Canada. Silvertale has a knack for creating characters that engage while they mystify, and this reader is always happy to meet new Pin Cherry Harbor-ites.
An edge-of-your-seat, keep-the-pages-turning adventure of the kind this author excels at; you won't put this down till it's done. And then you'll wait impatiently for the next adventure, "lucky" number thirteen?
[I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the author, with no obligation to review. All opinions expressed herein are my own and are given freely.]
I loved this book! I sat down to read and the next thing I knew, I was on the last page! I am always thrilled when a new Mitzy Moon book is released - I know that I can count on an excellent adventure! Hearts and Dark Arts keeps Mitzy in Pin Cherry Harbor - this means we get a solid dose of all the wonderful supporting characters. This book introduces a truly delightful new character - Yolo, who is a puppy love interest for Stellen. Yolo is front and center in one of the mysteries Mitzy needs to solve, which is tangentially related to the second mystery. The second mystery is an emotional gut-punch for Mitzy. Fortunately, she has the support of Silas and Erick to help her get through. I can't recommend this series highly enough. Trixie Silvertale is on my shortlist of must-read authors.
.. Twiggy is still trying to track it down while Mitzy is as usual getting into mischief. When Stellen doesn't show up on time for his lift home Mitzy's curiosity discovers her new little brother has a secret crush and she decides to help him out.
Yolanda, Yolo, Wilson is a cute, lilac haired, elfin, aura reading beauty who's created a special machine that reads pets auras.. when things go freakishly wrong her own puppy disappears and the oddly matched pair of adoptive siblings are on the case together.
Meanwhile there's trouble at the bookshop when Pyewacket is attacked and Grams ghost is stolen. While they may well be able to obtain the missing book will they ever be able to release Ghost-ma back into the home and closet she loves so much?
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Mitsy moon can see and speak to ghosts. She also has psychic abilities and is learning unique alchemist abilities. Her mentor and her lawyer and her grandmother’s former lawyer is a master alchemist and is teaching her. Her grandmother passed away and left Mitzi her custom bookstore in a small town on one of the Great Lakes. She is dating the sheriff and has reunited with her father and has a new stepmother and stepbrother. She also has her grandmothers special exotic wildcat. Who also helps her with clues and solving mysteries around town. This is an entertaining and fun series to read. Always has lots of twist and turns and unique situations. Check it out.
