Anna St. Germaine has finally entered her long-awaited trial, and the task set for her is clear. A once-banished demon has been planning his resurrection for centuries. All she has to do...is kill him. The countdown has begun, and her coven is more prepared than ever. But while Anna may be psychic, she knows the future is never certain.
His Past Is Rising
Ian Keller can't seem to get away from all the witches in Savannah. But as darkness swells within him, he sees no alternative but to turn to one for help. Anna leads a coven sworn to protect the innocent, including him. Yet while she speaks of prophecy, he can't help but wonder if they were meant to be lovers. Or if they'd always been enemies.

What a surprise to win this book as a gift! Since I have read the first 8 books and Sacrifice of a Witch is the last one in the series, there was no way I was NOT going to get this book. So thank you, Suza, not only for the gift, but also (and most importantly) for the excellent, outstanding, emotional conclusion. I got the book the day it was released and could barely wait to start reading it. Early evening I opened my Kindle Fire and began the immersion into the world of this coven. I kept reading until I realized it was late and I needed to open up my windows for the cooler temperature and prepare for bed. Then I switched to my Kindle Paperwhite and located where I had left off reading. Propped up in bed, I read all the hours required to finish the story. There was no way I was going to stop until I got to the end of the story. Ah, the tears. And as it was in books 7 and 8, I did not see coming the twists in the plot. Wow! And I shed more tears during the end with the tie in of all the previous books in the series by the people who had been impacted by the evil. There were times when I could not read the words through the tears...
I wanted to give a review as soon as I finished reading it. No way could I. Even the next day, I could not give a review when I realized the only word I had was "wow!". Hard to write the emotions one experiences - was Ian to be her love? Would Ronja's brother take over? Could Anna really kill an innocent?
I would not recommend reading this book without first reading the previous books in the series. For this last one is the culmination, the finale. But it is definitely worth reading. In fact, I know I will be reading the complete series again. It is that good. The saddest part is that the series is ended...
From the first, this series has been one I have looked forward to reading. It is a fabulous mix of witches, humans, love of family, a sisterhood, love story, epic battle of good vs, evil. As the last of the series, I was trying to read slowly to savor it. But there is so much going on that I found myself reading faster to see how it all ends (all the while wishing it could go on longer). Kates takes us on this final journey as she has in all previous books, with depth of emotion from gloriously in love Anna and Ian, to the battle with a Demon, help bent on destroying the world. Anna's final agony is told with so much pathos that I am feeling my heart race and eyes fill, just thinking about it. Amazing, wonderful, and yes, even fun and funny at times, this book, this whole series will make you FEEL everything the characters feel. Read with tissue at the ready, but DO READ THIS SERIES, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Wow....wow..... I am lost for words to describe just how great this book is. Suza Kates has out done herself om this one. It's amazing. A roller coaster ride from the moment Anna starts her trail. The last of the witches to stand and the culmination af the 9 books in the series. I always think that the pressure must be intens for the auther, when ending a series like this. All the strings have to be tied. No loose ends. Also the readers have to feel, that the series has ended in the "right" way.
I have read all the SC books as well as all Suza Kates stand alone books and she just gets better and better. Sacrifice is unbelivable! You think you know where the story is going, and Suza just surprises you over and over.
Can I have 7 stars * for this one?
Read it!,
Note: I highly recommend that the Savannah Coven books are read in order starting with Whisper of a which. It is the shortest, but it gives you all the back ground of why, who and what.
Freaking amazing ending to the SCS but also sends these nine sister witches off to wonderful life beginnings. I am sad the series is at an end but know Suza Kates will give us some more amazing stories. If you have yet to read the Savannah Coven series, you are missing something special.
Fantastic end to a great series! A little predictable, but not in a bad way. The storytelling, as I expect from Suza, was fantastic and the characters didn't disappoint. I was rather surprised at how Ronja ended up! Nice twist there Suza! I just hope we get to see some more of the coven in future stories, maybe some adventures of each witch by herself?!?!?
Saying "Goodbye " is always difficult, and I find that more than true with this group of characters. Nine exceptional women, the men who love and who fought by their sides, and even our furry familiars. This final book exceeded my hopes and dreams and had me an emotional blubbering mess too. As expected the author tied up all loose ends with flair and fireworks. She created a world of magic, friendships, and tons of suspense. Although my heart weighs heavy with the sadness felt with the end, I will be forever grateful for having had the opportunity to read such an exceptional series. Once you embark on this journey you'll never be the same. For magic exists and can be discovered with the turn of a page and the women of The Savannah Coven Series. Blessed Be!
I just loved this series! Even though this book was, what I thought, predictable, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself teary eyed nearing the end. Incredibly well written and well worth the read!!!
I received this book as part of GoodReads First Reads giveaway.
Overall I liked it. This book tells the story of how a coven of nine witches (and their cats and their husbands) try to stop another coven from summoning a demon and conquering the world. This is apparently the ninth book in a series and I've never read the previous 8 books.
The characterization was a mixed bag. I liked that the villains weren't just mustache twirling, evil for the hell of it but had pretty solid motivations for why they think a demonic invasion would improve the world. But then a lot of the side characters seemed so interchangeable that I had to constantly reference the front of the book to figure out who's who. Seriously, 9 witches, 9 husbands/boyfriends, a few housekeepers and I don't know how many members of the villainous coven. Once again, I haven't read the first 8 books so I assume everybody gets introduced and set up better in earlier books.
I'm of two minds about the battle sequences. On the one hand they tended to be exciting, high stakes affairs. On the other hand, the sequence of events seemed poorly thought out (the final battle has the coven engaging in hand to hand combat and then resorting to projectile weapons because the demons were too close, the advantage of projectile weapons is range. There's a reason modern militaries use rifles as the standard weapon and not long swords). And some of the battles' pacing was weird. Our heroes will be getting overwhelmed by demons when they decided to stop and discuss their feelings (again and again and again). And the heroes were kind of invincible. 18 people get zerg rushed by demons? NBD, just a few scratches. Heroes: Infiniti, demons: 0.
And the very ending seemed like a deus ex machina (once again, maybe this was alluded to earlier books that I haven't read). The book was setting up a bittersweet ending (the titular sacrifice) and then magic happens and the world is just groovy again. I know it's a book about witches so magic is a given but if the explanation for why everything is turning out okay is 'shut up, it's magic' you're going to leave the less sentimental readers annoyed.
So, once again I've managed to spend a whole review complaining about stuff in a book I actually enjoyed reading. So, in a nutshell, what did I like? The two leads are pretty cool, there's a man possessing demons called a Daevo, there's a pretty cool melee a trois going on and an interesting discussion of the interplay of free will and fate (the book comes down solidly on an answer but I found the logic to be somewhat tenuous but it was interesting none the less).
OK, all…this is a tough review to write, because I want to gush all over it, but I also want to cry all over it because it’s the last of the series. **Cue sobbing** HOWEVER…as much as I hate to see it go, it was truly the perfect length of a series, and this book was the perfect ending. So many series books we see these days are stretched a little longer than they should be, but this is most definitely not the case for this series. Ms. Kates had a plan from the very beginning of how long the series would be, and what would happen in each book. And let me tell you…the well planned structure of the series was clear. And even though we knew there would be some sort of cliffhanger and the end of each book (since it is a series, after all) there was only one time where she actually tortured us with the ending (and no, I won’t say which book), but it fit…it kept us on our toes, and made us wonder if there really would be a happy wrap up like the others (trying not to give spoilers here as to what is considered a “normal wrap up”).
And as followers of the series, we all knew what this final book would lead to: Anna; the leader of the coven, and with the biggest fate of all the witches resting on her shoulders that she and her brother have known about since her birth. But even though we knew this much basically from the first book, we had NO idea what kinds of challenges she would face. Sneaky Ms. Kates threw in a big wrench that had us all a bit scared. And not until the very end did we know how or even IF this massive wrench would be resolved…and for this review, I’m not even hinting!
Although I bought this book the day it came out, I’m not gonna lie…it took me a few months to read it. I’ve become so attached to each and every member of this coven, and the friends and loved ones they’ve added to their group along the way, I frankly wasn’t ready to see it end. It was like I was going to be leaving a second family, after being with them for several years. I don’t know how she did it, but I didn’t feel the sadness in saying goodbye that I thought I would. The story was so fast-paced and intense, that I didn’t have time to think about it. Then, when I started to fear there were only a few pages left, Ms. Kates made it OK. The ending was perfect, although sad – but I won’t tell you if it was a good sad or a bad sad, because you’ll have to read it to find out! And if you haven’t read it, or if you haven’t read the series, I could not express more that you are MASSIVELY missing out!
Goodbye to my favorite coven…but hopefully we’ll see at least some of you in the future!
This book was bittersweet for me. It is the last book of the Savannah Coven Series, a series I have loved since the first book. This book is Anna's trial and like the others is filled with a strong witch and an equally strong man who is perfect for her. Without giving it away it is filled with lots of action and couldn't have wrapped the series up any better.
Finally the Witch # 9 (owner of the Island and only Witch who had been raised since birth knowing about this legacy). Has a perfect climatic ending that also involved the love of her life (who had past life connections to the dark Witch). Best of the series.
I waited until I read the first 9 books in this series to make any comments.. I lasted till book 8. This author has got it going on. Magic, action, suspense, romance , humor and drama. What a fabulous blend and she has kept it going all the way through the series. I can't wait to start book 10. These are a MUST READ. Outstanding job and please keep it coming. 😊
The Savannah Coven series was a great series and this last book brought the story to a highly satisfying ending. Kates wrote a beautiful story full of action, humor, and love.
I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways.
I listened to book 1-9 of this series and really enjoyed it!! Every one of the characters was so likeable in their own way. The conclusion was soooo good!! I highly recommend this series and this author!
Sacrifice of a Witch is the ninth, and last, book in the Savannah coven series by Suza Kates. (Well, if you count Boys' Night Out, the novella about the men involved with the witches in the series, it is the tenth book but it is still the concluding book of the series.) As with the previous books, I absolutely loved this one! As I've said before in my other reviews of Suza's books, I have a fascination for and almost obsession with anything that involves magic and witches and ever since I read Whisper of a Witch (the first in the series), I've been hooked! I've been looking forward to this particular book in the series with both anticipation and dread. The anticipation is, of course, because it's another trial of one of the Savannah coven. The dread is because it's the last book of the series and you just know that it's going to be so much more difficult and heartbreaking to deal with because it is the last. Anna St. Germaine, the leader of the coven, has always known that her trial will be the last and hardest. She never knew just how hard it would be! I won't post any spoilers here but there were multiple times throughout this story when I was in tears! And, once again, Suza has outdone herself! I am sad that this is the last in the series but Suza has continued to write and has other standalone books as well as at least one new series already available to buy so I won't run out of Suza Kates' books to read for a while.
My only complaint is not with the writing but with the editing. As with the previous book (Vengeance of a Witch), there were multiple places where words were misspelled, grammar was incorrect, etc. I don't recall seeing this in any of the first seven Savannah coven novels and the one novella, and this was disappointing to me. I guess this seems important to me personally because I was an English major in college and I constantly proofread anything I write for any reason. I'm also an aspiring author and, to me, errors like this take the reader's attention away from the story. But I believe this would fall under the publisher's purview and not the author's so I have no quarrel with Suza at all about this.
In any event, Suza...you've done it again! This was a marvelous finish to an absolutely fantastic series of books! Thank you for your dedication to your readers and fans! It shows in your work!
I Loved this series and think it would make a good movie. Talk about a fun exciting ride! wow this was a big roller coaster. A great variety of emotions, some even intense or deeply sad. This story is based in the southern United States and is packed of multi-genre. Paranormal, Romance, Magic, Fictional History and Mystery. Each book becomes more thrilling and the author keeps you wondering "what comes next" throughout the entire series.
I purchased this box set of the first 3 stories first but before starting the second book I bought books 4-9. yes, I was hooked from the beginning.
The only thing i found distracting in the series was the increasing use of story repetition. In some places it is like the author is trying to fill pages by repeating previous written information. Regardless, i would highly recommend the series.
This book is the culmination of nine books . I have never read a series straight through till this one .nine strong women , nine amazing end chosen for the women and nine protective cats. What more could you ask for ? Except magic , demons . It's all here. I hope that there will be more to come !
What an intense conclusion to this series. I cried. A lot. Then some more. There were so many elements so artfully wrapped up, without feeling disingenuous or shallow. Honestly I want to hear more about these women, even if it's through the likes of Tadd. Just wow. And I share a birthday with Anna! Score!
I have really enjoyed this entire series. This last installment was no disappointment. Good verses evil, magic, heartbreak, suspense and romance. What's not to love.
