Boston Brawlers #2

Ice Daddy: Boston Brawlers Series, Book 2

Rate this book
Nashville nursing student Paige McMillan only wanted to get over a cheating ex. But a few sinful hours with a tall, muscular bad boy left the good girl with a lifetime of responsibility - and no idea who her adorable daughter's father really is.

Love him or hate him, hockey superstar Lance Couture makes no apologies for being the best - or for living life to its fullest. He's hot, rich, and girls can't get enough of him. Why would a player like him ever settle down?

When a pro hockey team comes to town, Paige spots a familiar face in the most unlikely on the ice. The father of her daughter is Lance Couture, star of the Boston Brawlers. But the pro athlete isn't interested in talking about lost time. He'd rather replay their steamy one-night affair - and his lips and tongue are oh so seductive....

Can Paige resist the hockey hunk's advances and tell him the truth? Can Lance's career survive another off-ice controversy? Is there hope for a happy little hockey family?

Contains mature themes.

This book is total shit. I'll tell you all the crap wrong with it after a summary, which you might consider a spoiler.

Paige (royal b*tch) is at a bar trying to get over her cheating ex when hockey star, Lance (arrogant whore) puts the moves on her (Paige doesn't know he's a hockey star). They go back to his hotel for a one night stand WHICH THE AUTHOR DECIDES TO LEAVE OUT OF THE BOOK. When he goes to shower, she leaves without a word. Circumstances led to the condom being defective and she ended up pregnant. Problem was they only knew each other's first names. It's almost three years later and every year he goes back to the bar he met Paige at hoping to see her again. And she does the same. They end up finding each other again, the book gets worse from there.

My problems are mostly with Paige and the fact the author wrote a totally crappy book. I wanted to get to the book with the Russian hockey player (because you know I love Russians) and I didn't want to skip this one in case it had something important. I soooooo wish I had skipped it.

When Paige and Lance meet up again, she chickens out of telling him and instead they give each other oral. Then she finally just takes him to the home to meet his daughter without telling him in advance. He walks in and immediately recognizes this child as his daughter because they look alike. He's suddenly a perfect dad! it was just STUPID. Then this entire time she's let her parents believe that it was her ex that got her knocked up and then didn't want to have anything to do with the kid. How could you do that?????? Then she doesn't want to tell her parents about Lance being the father even after he's back in her life because she's scared.

God I was so mad when I started writing this review but now I'm just too disgusted to tell you all the crap this FMC did. I put a lot of it in my Kindle notes.

I do NOT recommend this book.

Okay.

If you like Insta love, and less than 5 days in each other's company. To little time together before proposing or accepting a proposal to tell if it was real love. Especially found this irresponsible because a baby was involved. I liked her other hockey books, but not this one.

This is the first book I've read from this author so I was excited to read her work. It turned out to be an okay read. The characters were likable, but I did not feel any type of chemistry between Paige and Lance at all. The only thing that seemed believable was the one night stand that lead to the pregnancy. To me this is a story that can be read just to say I read it or just to pass time. However, at the same time I think this book would be great for readers who like over the top insta-love, relationship and family. This wasn't a terrible read but I was just expecting more. I can honestly say, that this book didn't leave me wanting to read more from this author.

In quel momento, capì.

Uno sport romance bello e divertente, assolutamente consigliato.

I’m not sure how it came about that I picked this book up, probably through Book Bub or something. But however it was, I kind of forgot about it. But now that we are knee deep into hockey playoffs, I thought I needed to get some hockey romances in and while going through my hockey romance books came across this one. I’ve never read anything by this author and hadn’t heard any buzz so I was going into this book blind.

Sometimes blind is good as this turned out to be quite an enjoyable read, so much so I just purchased the first book and paid more than I usually do for an ebook. It was still a lot less than a print book so all is well.

Lance is the hero of the book. He’s one of the best players in the NHL as well as being mighty fine to look upon. Because of these factors, he doesn’t have any trouble finding women who are willing to do more than just look upon. While many of the women have been forgettable, there is one in particular he remembers and whenever the team plays in this particular city, he goes to the bar he met her at hoping lightning will strike twice and he will see her again. They only exchanged first names so there is no way for Lance to contact her.

And there is no way for her to contact Lance. Paige was still hurting from a cheating ex the night they met. She was NOT a one night stand kind of girl but between her girlfriend telling her that was exactly what she needed to try and heal because of her ex and being charmed by Lance’s really cheesy pick-up lines, and they were bad, so bad they were hilarious, she just went for it. She left the next morning while he was in the shower and the only thing she knew about him was that he was big, traveled around with other big, good looking guys and was Lance from Boston. She finds him quite by happenstance when her father shows her a video he took at a hockey game of her daughter and Vance.

Yep, their one night stand had repercussions.

When Lance and Paige finally reconnect, he’s delighted to have found her after years of searching. He’s also discombobulated to find out he’s a father. But because he’s a good man, he steps up to the plate right away and bonds very quickly with his young daughter.
It’s not a lengthy book at 209 pages and I was able to read it fairly quickly. And I liked it quite a bit. Both Paige and Lance are good, decent, and likeable characters. It’s not chock full of angst and that’s just the kind I was in the mood for when I read this book. I enjoyed it so much I purchased the first book in the series to read.

This book was a really quick read. If you love a secret baby, sports and second chance book then you’ve found it. Lance and Paige meet one night and she takes off without any information. When she tries to find him all her effort falls short. Time passes and Paige sees him on TV and realizes who he is. Lance needs to clean up his act what better way than with a baby you’ve never meet. A ready made family. But can they make it work? After all it was only one night. I read this book voluntarily for an honest review. Enjoy!

I was given an ARC copy of this.

This was another great read. I read another book by her and it was great too. I was surprised by how well he handled the news. I was happy because normally things like that will get dragged out. I was really happy that everything worked out in the end. They both deserved it.

I'd like to take a star off review for the name of this book. It almost was a pass for me. It seemed cheesy. The cover made up for it.

Story not original but done pretty nice. It had supernatural elements but that put it in fairy-tale and Lance was typical good guy jock. It's pure escapism. Loved it.

Where should I start. This book was so bad I felt like I was back in 2014 reading some fan fiction on Wattpad. Seriously…and don’t even get me started about Paige because it’s a whole story itself. Like how desperate can somebody be? She literarily said her daughter is the most important and next seconds she is saying how much she wants him. And her desperation for him? It’s was seriously soo embarrassing to hear it( yeah I was listening to audiobook) that me as a single mum felt embarrassed for her. I would give this book half a * but that’s not possible but even 1 is too good for this. I thought I read and was listening too some stupid FL in books but Paige won the price for the stupidest and most desperate FL in all those book I ever touched.

This was my first book by June Winters. I was looking for a new hockey romance book when I was offered the opportunity to review this book, so of course, I jumped at the chance. Overall, it was an okay read for me. It wasn't bad. I read the whole book and relatively quickly, but it lacked...something. And I felt like the relationship between the H and h was rushed. And seeing how the book was only 60,000 words, there was an opportunity to stretch it out some more. Will I read more books by this author? Maybe. I can't say no but I can't say yes, and that is why I have to give it three stars.
Oh, and I would have liked to hear more about that piercing. The author introduced it and then didn't say any more about it.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.*

Horrible writing. Immature. Spoiler alert : they meet , have sex, she gets pregnant. 2yrs later she sees him again and gets mad he wants paternity test ( he should believe her they spent a couple drunken hours together after all) . Soon he proposes. Yep. These 2 shallow immature people have spent less than 24hrs with one another but they getting married. That's you HEA. Really dumb. No character development. No relationship. Sex - baby- marriage.

The super hot one night stand turns into a surprise baby. And many years later things take a turn.
The kid is adorable, the duchebag athlete is hot and our h is strong and sweet.
It was a fun and fast story with great narration.

A sweet (and at times sexy) second chance romance. (Though their first chance wasn't really a chance at all since it was a one night stand.) Two years after a one night stand (a rebound for her and a out of town fling for him,) the couple find each other again. Only knowing each other's first names and what city they were from, they had no way to contact each other. She has a bit of a surprise for him when they do meet up (which happened to be a crazy chance meeting.)

I enjoyed the story itself, and the characters for the most part, but there were a few things about them that had a negative impact on me. Him: Well, I didn't really have any problems with him other than he seemed a little slow on the uptake at times. Not in a dumb or ignorant way, but a couple times he came across as a little immature for his age, or even naive. Nothing major. Her: While she gave the impression she 'wasn't after his money' or anything like that, she was constantly commenting about him being this big famous (and rich) professional hockey player. It made it feel like his financial status meant more to her than she was letting on. Another thing I had a problem with was how quickly her feelings changed. Possible SPOILER ALERT: One minute she was wanting to take things slow with him and get to know each other, then he asks her to move with him and she says 'Yes' before he even finishes asking. And this was after just two days of knowing him. (Once being the night of the one night stand two years prior.) Various things like that., yet she always managed to make it seem like it was his fault in one way or another. I liked that she seemed like a strong young woman raising a child and working hard to get the bills paid all on her own, but once she found out who her baby daddy was, her behavior changed.

Other than those character 'flaws' I really liked the book. (Of course I love all things hockey related.) Plus it has a little child that always adds to the 'Awww' moments. :D The story flowed smoothly. It read quickly and easily. It alternates POV's between his and hers. There are a few sex scenes. This is book two in a series but can be read as a stand alone without any problems. Book one features a different couple... though we get some glimpses of them in this book.

*I volunteered to review an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

RECENSIONE: #junewinters

A presto 😘

This book was a little bit frustrating to read.
This doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it,I think it was just me... Paige delaying telling Lance he was a father made me want to scream.
But I understand it was all part of the story.
This is a second chance/surprise baby kind of romance, because after a one night stand between Paige and Lance who is a professional Hockey Player,Which Paige doesn't know this. She leaves in the morning after the best sex of her life and that was it.....or so she thinks because their night of passion results in a baby.
Lance is adorable he really is clueless sometimes but really sweet,he never forgot his night with paige and everytime he is in Nashville he goes to the same place he met her, just to see if he can see her again.
Anyway after different events take place Lance finally finds out he is a Dad and he takes to it so easily, its really nice. But his PR Company is not happy and makes him rethink things which spoils their reunion.Because finding Paige again the chemistry and attraction is still very much there for both of them.
Both Lance and Paige are great together and I Loved getting to know the sweeter side of Lance,he was generous, sexy and yes a bit arrogant but I liked him.It did annoy me a bit that everyone seemed to be only interested in his money and when they found out that he was the father they saw dollar signs.
After a rocky start I am so glad I finished it because I did relish it in the end.
Great read.

Wow… wow… 2 stars for the plot. It was adorable and kept my interest. I usually hate surprise pregnancy tropes but this one was done well. There was no annoying “oh no I’m puking out of no where” so that is a thumbs up in my book.

NEGATIVE stars for the smut. I have never in my life burst out laughing unable to stop through a smut scene. The descriptions were absolutely atrocious. Like, the worst I have ever heard. “Thick tallow-ey glue” for c*m. Him erupting like a geyser. The descriptions of his c*ck and body were down right hilarious. “Hot sticky flesh” “mountainous pecks” “hunky arms” “GLANDS”. It was honestly hilarious and a disgusting choices of words… so, if that was the intent, the target was hit.

Now, I know the narration has nothing to do with the author but my god this was the worst narration I’ve ever heard. The male narrator sounded like Ted from Bjll and Ted and when he did the women’s voices he sounded like a 90 year old smoker. Not exactly hot when he’s describing a sex scene 😩
The female narrator wasn’t terrible but she did have a lot of saliva in her mouth so you’d hear her mouth open with every breath. There were also a few times I heard pages turn. I get it, it’s not a number one book so the narration isn’t going to be top tier but… WOW that male narrator should look into narrating other genres.

I’ll be trying to scrub this one from my brain for awhile.

I’ve only read one book by June Winters before It was Forbidden Puck and it was wonderful based on that experience I grabbed Ice Daddy as soon as I saw it. No surprises here. It was equally good. I’m not going to summarize it as the publisher’s blurb does a perfectly decent job. Frankly, it’s ending is of course predictable but that doesn’t matter because the route taken to get to that end is simply superb. The lead characters here, Paige and Lance - and their surrounding friends - are actually decent people who I’d like to have as friends. (Yes, a broken-hearted Paige had a one night stand with handsome stranger Lance which resulted in a pregnancy thanks to protection failure, but Lance had no idea, and Paige took wonderful care of her babe.) There are no cheap shots here creating false tensions even though (thanks to a jerk of a PR person foisted on Lance by his team) there are problems to be overcome. The story just works beautifully. Special kudos for little Irie (Paige and Lance’s little girl) and thanks for a great cameo performance by Lance’s sister, the star of that earlier book. You definitely didn’t need to read that book to totally enjoy this one which is truly standalone, but it was a pleasure catching up with the h and H of that book.

Totally wonderful and totally recommended.

Paige and Lance meet one night after Paige goes out to mend a broken heart. They have a one night stand but neither can forget the other, both for different reasons. Lance can't forget the girl that he spent one night with and Paige can't forget the guy because she ends up having his baby. Fast forward two years and a chance encounter has them both back in each others lives.
I'm all for the insta love kind of trope but this book took things to a whole new level. Barely a day after seeing each other again and Paige and Lance are both making plans to move in and be together. I found both characters to be very immature at times, thinking of sex and each other rather than the child they both have. The minor characters were all a little too complacent in the new couples choices and nobody ever gave them push back or said they should slow things down.
I didn't much enjoy this story as I found it moved too fast, the chapters were too short and mostly the writing seemed to be that of a fifteen year old girl writing fan fiction in her spare time. I have read other books by this author and know she can do much better than this. This book seemed like a filler for the series, one where she needed something before moving on to the next book.

It seems Lance redeems himself in this book after being a douche in the first one!!

Lance meets Paige at a bar (yes, typical I know!). He's in town for an away game and she's there trying to get over an ex! They have an amazing one night stand - no last names exchanged! But it was a night that neither one will forget...EVER!

Fast forward a few years...Paige has a beautiful daughter (yep, Lance is the baby daddy!) who has a knack for and weird love of hockey. Lance is back in town for another away game. Every time he's in town, he visits THE BAR to see if he can find Paige...but no suck luck!

After Paige's dad returns from taking his granddaughter to a hockey game, Paige is shown a really cute video of one of the hockey stars interacting with her daughter. Paige cannot believe that she has finally found her baby daddy!!!

Paige and Lance reconnect - he is a notorious playboy who needs to clean up his image.......but will the news of a surprise kid help or hinder this....

I enjoyed this and I especially love the instant connection Lance has with his daughter and the love he feels for the two females thrown blindly back into his life

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is an author that is new to me and i will certainly be reading more from this author in the future.

Paige is a strong woman struggling to raise her daughter as a single mother after a one night stand in which she only knew that he was Lance from Boston.

Lance is a professional hockey player and is unable to forget the woman he met two years ago and every time that he goes back to her city he goes back to the place he found her.

Things move very quickly in this book and lust and feelings seem to power through these two in that within just two days paige is ready to throw away everything to be with him and their daughter. Lance also seems to accept things far too easily. Not even within a month they are engaged.

Although things move at such a rapid pace in enjoyed this book. The writing was good and it sucked me in so that i had read it within a day.

Okay so parts of this book were cute but others were really cringey. Also, this is a sequel to the book Forbidden Puck. Okay so I thought the story was cute and it was a quick easy read and pretty entertaining. Also I liked seeing this redeeming moment for Lance because the last book really made him the villain and he kind was the worst so at least this one make him seem like a better human. So on the flip side, the relationship between Lance and Paige was really weird. It moved way too fast just like the last book which sometimes is enjoyable but in this case it didn't even seem that natural. Like there were moments where I was like I get this but then other moments where it was like this is kind of ridiculous and just generally too sappy and corny. So most of the time it was kind of cringey how they were talking to each other and the whole situation with their daughter. Anyway, overall it was a decent read just not my favorite so I give it 3 stars. - Hannah
