Off-Limits Love in Rivermint Cove #1

(Not Really) Faking It With My Best Friend's Brother

Rate this book
Library whispers to wedding bells faster than you can say, “overdue book fines.”

He's Rivermint Cove's most eligible bachelor—and I’m the awkward librarian. He’s also, inconveniently, my best friend’s brother.

What started out as an innocent blind date ended in Nate blurting out that we were engaged and asking me to play along.

So, I did what any logical bookworm would I dove headfirst into the role, swapping the quiet of my library for the whirlwind of make-believe matrimony.

Now, I'm dodging congratulations and attending eye-opening couples retreats while battling my real feelings.

Things get delightfully dirty when a mischievous hound dog leads us on a merry mud-splattered chase, resulting in both Nate and me looking like swamp creatures at a garden party.

Navigating this messy charade, I’m starting to think the line between make-believe and reality is as thin as the pages of a well-loved novel.

Not Really Faking It With My Best Friend's Brother is a dual POV, sweet kisses only, standalone book with no profanity and a HEA. It is the first book in the Off-Limits Love in Rivermint Cove Series.

I love writing and reading clean, sweet, swoony books that make me laugh out loud, cry a little, and get invested in the characters. I hope you will find that in my books—plenty of playful banter, light drama, sweet kisses only, and happily-ever-afters.

When I am not writing, I am sitting on the porch with my husband and my standard poodle, enjoying my gardens and nature. I love gardening and bird-watching!!

What a quick sweet read. Really enjoyed this one and the characters. Small town romance and fake dating? Everything I adore in a contemporary romance. It was really wonderful to read.

This story was sweet, tender, and romantic. An introverted bookworm and dreamy doctor connect through a shared love of literature and jazz. Seriously- the man enjoys Pride & Prejudice and Anne of Green Gables. *swoon*

What I really appreciated about this story is that both the MMC and MFC are good-hearted people trying to make a real difference in the world. Part of what makes their romance magical is that they bring out the best in each other and help each other reach their potential and achieve their dreams.

If you want to read the most romantic date ever in literary history, this book is for you.

Lily Waters's latest novel, "(Not Really) Faking It With My Best Friend's Brother", is not about overwhelming, burning passion, but rather about sweet, tender emotions. This book is a story dominated by the more subtle but deeper acts of love, where the relationship between the protagonists unfolds slowly and gradually, all the while retaining the authenticity that is the hallmark of real emotions.

The setting of the novel is Rivermint Cove, a small town that is a realm of gossips and nosy residents. Here, news travels at lightning speed, and it is this dynamic environment that provides the backdrop for the main characters' encounter. Susan, a librarian, has grown up in this small town and although her life is not the most exciting, she is happy and content. She is passionate about her work and lives her everyday life in the world of books. Nate, a doctor at the local hospital, is the brother of Susan's best friend Emily. As a child, Susan had a secret crush on Nate, but they were never actually close.

The story gets truly interesting when they find themselves on a blind date through an anonymous dating site. Events quickly escalate when Nate, trying to get out of an awkward situation, lies that the two of them are engaged. This fake engagement was just a moment of desperation on Nate's part, but in the chaos of the small town, things quickly get out of hand. Forced to pretend they're a real couple, they also have to deal with the rumours that are spreading through the town.

As Susan and Nate try to convince the townspeople of the reality of their relationship, they gradually discover how much they have in common. Their shared passion for literature and jazz brings them closer together. Throughout the story, I often felt that they were almost too cute, almost too perfect for each other – after all, where in real life can you find a man who likes to read Pride and Prejudice and whose favourite book is Anne of Green Gables?!

The novel also explores several classic romantic themes:
1. small-town romance,
2. best friend's brother/little sister's best friend,
3. fake engagement.

What I found especially remarkable about this story is that both protagonists are genuine, kind-hearted people trying to make a real difference in the world. Part of the magic of their love is that they bring out the best in each other and help each other achieve their dreams. As their relationship deepens, it becomes increasingly clear that they are not bound together by a fake engagement, but by a real, deep emotion that will, in time, grow into love.

Lily Waters' book is a real gem for lovers of romantic literature. Readers will be captivated by the atmosphere of small-town life, the kindness of the main characters and the gentle emotions that radiate from every page. The way Susan and Nate discover their shared passion and help each other achieve their dreams is an inspiring and heartwarming story that will stay with the reader for a long time.

(Not Really) Faking It With My Best Friend's brother is a standalone contemporary romance by Lily Waters. I enjoyed this very much, it's set up includes a couple of my favourite tropes: a small town romance, a fake engagement/wedding, childhood crush and best friend's brother/little sister's best friend romance.

The book is set in the tiny town of Rivermint Cove. It's the kind of small town where gossip takes no more than ten minutes to make the rounds through all the town's nosy parkers - which is something that our main characters have to deal with as their fake relationship blooms into something more.

Susan is a librarian in the small town she grew up in. She doesn't have the most dazzling or exciting life, but she is happy and she is passionate about her work as a librarian and also in children's literacy. Nate is a doctor who works at the local hospital. He happens to be the brother of Susan's best friend. They know each other but not particularly well. Although Susan has a ginormous crush on Nate.

The fake engagement was nothing more than a desperate moment for Nate, but with small town shenanigans things snow ball quickly. I love the connection between Nate and Susan. It was there from the beginning, but very weak, and as we get to know the characters and they get to know each other as adults, the connection strengthens. This is a cute, sweet and sexy romance, lots of fun.

Susan is a librarian with a love of romance novels who just wants a love life of her own. Since she hasn't found that certain someone yet, she will just have to continue to swoon over the fictional men in her books. Her best friend Emily wants to help her find someone that she can get out & have fun with so she sets her up an account on a dating site unbeknownst to her. As fate would have it, her blind date with the man she's been talking to on the app lately ends up being none other than Nate, the town's most eligible bachelor & hot doctor that she's had a crush on for years. Oh...and he just happens to also be Emily's brother!
Fate obviously has a sense of humor.

In another funny turn of events, their blind date turns into a fake engagement & in a small town, that is news of epic proportions! What starts out as an innocent slip of the tongue in conversation starts to build like a snowball rolling downhill & ends up pushing them both deeper & deeper into a fake relationship disaster...or is it?

I absolutely devoured this story! This is the second book I have read by this author & I can say that she is quickly becoming a real favorite! This story gives you all of the feels that a fake relationship romcom should give. It was a light, fun, feel good read with a heartwarming storyline. The characters were endearing & Baxter the mischievous basset hound was a complete riot! He literally stole the scene any time he was on the page. There were several laugh out loud moments, along with plenty of swooning & heartfelt emotions. If you love funny & really sweet romcoms, you should not pass this one by!!

I'd like to thank the author Lily Waters for the opportunity to ARC read this one. The pleasure was all mine!

Susan is a librarian in her hometown of Rivermint Cove who has a kind giving heart and lives a quiet comfortable life. Her best friend, Emily decides to shake things up a bit by signing her up on a dating site with the name of Boundless Bookworm, much to Susan's chagrin. But she lets it go. But when her profile gets a hit, she decides to check it out. The person is signed up as Mystery Doc seems to agree with Susan's profile to a tee. When they meet up at the coffee shop, they are shocked to find they knew each other. In fact, it is Nate, her best friend's brother who Susan had a crush on when she was younger. It was a sweet but awkward meeting at first. But when Tiffany, who had been chasing Nate for a date confronted him since he told her he wasn't dating and she saw him with Susan, he blurted out that he and Susan was engaged. With lots of laughs and Awwws. When he tells Susan what happened, she decided she'd go along, while Tiffany smells a rat and is going to prove that they are faking it. But, Having to overcome some obstacles we are treated with the sweetest HEA! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I love all things Lily Waters and this does not disappoint!! Susan is the librarian in the town of Rivermint Cove, where she grew up. Emily is her best friend and concerned with Susan's dating life, since she is thirty and always has her nose in a book. Emily tells Susan she's put her on Tinder (Boundless Bookworm), and Susan is not happy. Someone by the name of Mystery Doc, replies to her, they agree to meet for coffee. When Susan arrives at the cafe, Mystery Doc turns out to be Emily's brother Nate. They knew each other as kids, not adults. Tiffany a woman who wants to date Nate, approaches them and asks Nate out. Nate panics, and says that Susan is his fiance. She does not believe him. And he apologizes to Susan. Tiffany tells everyone and gossip flies and everyone knows. This is very uncomfortable for Susan and Nate. How does this workout, and what happens to Susan and Emily's friendship? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Waters!!!

(Not Really) Faking It With My Best Friend's Brother by Lily Waters was a pleasure to read on all levels. Their sweet love story will leave you with all the Happily Ever After feels and keep you smiling all the way through. Susan works at the local library and one day instead of just reading romance she joins an online dating app.
Imagine her shock when she gets matched with Nate, a doctor and also her childhood crush and brother of her best friend, Emily.
What starts off as just a blind date escalates when Tiffany gets nosy and pushy about whether they are dating.
In panic and desperation to shake her off they say they are not only dating but engaged too!
So starts a small town charade of a fake engagement.
But then things get rather complicated as BOTH develop true feelings for the other so what started out as a bluff is slowly turning into reality.
But can they express their real feelings to each other and turn this into something very special?
A small town romance with a sweet story and lovable characters.
Was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

- Small town romance
- Sweet romance
- Best friend's brother
- Fake relationship

Oh, how I love a fake relationship! This book does it so well! Starting out as an innocent blind date, things quickly escalate when a nosy townsperson intrudes.

Susan has liked her bestie Emily's brother Nate for ages, but has never mentioned it. So when Emily signs her up for a dating site, Susan isn't thrilled. She is delightfully surprised to find she has been matched with Nate. However, a woman that has been pursuing Nate sees them together and Nate blurts out that he and Susan are engaged to keep his distance from his admirer...

Because they live in a small town, the news quickly spreads. Now what will they do?.

A sweet off limits small town romance with no cliffhanger.
Some of the lines I really liked --- "Reading opens doors to new worlds for children. It fosters creativity, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning..." ---
"If we nurture their ability to dream, imagine, and explore through reading, think of the world we could create for our children and us. Let's give them that power. ----
"Romance, is the little things that make the everyday extraordinary. It's shared laughter, stolen glances, and synchronized steps in a ridiculous three-legged race. It's not about public displays to satisfy nosey spectators." ----
What is Tiffany up to? What does Tiffany have against Susan? These and other questions will all be answered. I received a free ARC and this is my honest.

So Good!

This book was so good! I loved the whole premise of Nate and Susan being paired on a dating app but having grown up knowing each other! She is Nate's sister's best friend! While they seem worlds apart at first, a misstep on Nates part throws them together in a fake engagement, where they may not be as different as they think! Can they keep up the charade? Do they even want to? What about Emily, Nate's sister, and Susan's best friend? Is the shy, introverted librarian just in for a heartbreak, or is there a deeper connection than anyone realizes? I loved this book. I loved the witty banter. I loved how these two really saw each other and supported each other. It was a fun, heartwarming read that you will love!

Great story of the librarian and the doctor who meet again on a dating app. They enjoy communicating on line and decide to meet on a date only to find they know each other from childhood. They have a great evening but neither knows if they will go out again. Then the H cornered by a woman who wants to date him says he’s engaged. Thus starts the fake engagement between H and h. H sister is best friends with the h, which only complicates matters. As the fake engagement continues the couple truly fall in love with each other. The road is not always easy but a HEA results for the couple. Recommend to everyone, nice sweet read.

Susan's best friend, Emily, signs her up for a new Online Dating platform, which Susan grudgingly agrees to try out. Her profile (Boundless Bookworm) matches up with one called MysteryDoc, who when they meet up turns out to be Emily's brother, Nate. Akward!

Nate ends up shooting off his mouth to another lady who is interested in him by claiming to not only be dating Susan, but to be engaged!

This is a funny, cozy story of how Susan and Nate navigate their fake engagement, and end up truly connecting and finding real love.

Who’d a thunk it?…An unexpected great match.

A very pleasant surprise for Susan to be matched with someone she has adored for at least ten years but more of a shock for Nate who had less interest in his sister’s best friend and yet they had all enjoyed some good times together.
They meet and then Nate unexpectedly sets the stage for the faux pas which Susan goes along with. Can something meaningful develop?
This is a light, enjoyable, and clean romantic novel. The characters were very likeable and the story held my interest. The small-town setting brought it to life…I received an arc and this is my honest and voluntary review.

💜 Dual POVs
💛 Librarian/Doctor relationship
💜 Best Friend's Brother
💛 Online Blind Date
💜 Fake Engagement

It's a sweet and short contemporary romance between Susan and Nate. Somehow, they ended up on a blind date with each other. Even though they are fake engaged, they start to develop feelings for each other. It was cute how they ran into each other and spent time together realizing they were compatible. They have these dreams they want to make come true, and the other person is very supportive. Susan's best friend is a great friend to her, but she had her concerns without all the drama. They fit like puzzle pieces after their blind date. It's a cute love story about Nate and Susan.

Susan is the town's well loved, socially awkward librarian. Nate's the most eligible bachelor doctor. He's also her best friend's big brother. When they both end up matched, blindly, on a dating app, they laugh it off. Then he gets backed into a corner, by the one woman who won't accept that he's not interested in her, and speaks before he thinks. What did he say about Susan? Will she go along with it? How long does it take to get out of control?.

Sometimes, you just need to unwind with a warm and fuzzy story. This one with its perfect warmth and fuzziness turned out to be a truly sweet tale of forbidden love. I particularly enjoyed that there wasn’t a ton of drama surrounding the forbidden part and the love story was given a bit more importance instead.

Truly glad about this cozy tale out in the world already. Thank you to the author for providing me an advance copy!

So funny. These highly educated adults- signing up on a date app? And in a small town too? Well the man’s sister had her best friend do it. Wham-it matched her best friend with own brother. But it was going to be fake as her brother was being chased by an undesirable woman. Anything to get that pest away from him. The ups and down are low, but the. Chemistry is solid and slow burning. A remarkable love story
