“It was supposed to be a white Christmas. A fun Christmas. One full of gifts and family and dogs. You know how much I adore dogs! Instead of a white Christmas, I got a red one. And the gift I found under the tree this year… I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. At least there were lots of dogs, right?” - Holly Jameson

“It may not be the most orthodox Christmas so far, but I had been given the best gift I could’ve asked for. A dog of my own.” - Holly Jameson
Holly is trying to get her life back in order by starting her own business in dog walking. Unfortunately, her first client ends up dead. Holly takes over the care of the little Dachshund Dixie. The whole small town thinks Holly must be the killer, so she has to clear her name.
It's a cute book, but very short. I finished in less than an hour. I enjoyed the interaction between Holly and her new companion Dixie. This is the first in a series, so I'm hoping the next one will be more developed.
This was a really cute, simple cozy mystery. And for how short it is, it was nicely fleshed out without being complicated or vague. Definitely worth a read!
This was fun enough. I didn't absolutely love it, but I liked the story and will continue with the series. The main character is fine as well, she has some initiative with solving the murder and trying to keep the dog, who is also a nice addition to the story.
I thought the mystery was very simple but effective, but I wasn’t a fan of the love interest. I guess things will change in the next books but for now I am not really engaged in the very start of this possible romance.
Holly Jameson is struggling to make a career as a dog walker in the small town of Full Fork, New York. She arrives at her client's house to pick up Darlene Richardson's cute Dachshund, Dixie, when she finds more than she bargained for. Ms. Richardson is dead and police focus on Holly as the prime suspect.
She takes Dixie with her until Ms. Richardson's family can be located. Although Full Fork is a small town, they can be really unforgiving. They all believe Holly is a murderer and they make sure she knows it. The only one who believes in Holly's innocence is her best friend May who owns a local pet cafe.
Holly snoops around town to find the real killer and clear her own name. It's not easy. The more questions she asks, the angrier everyone gets. Meanwhile, Holly seems to be falling in love with Dixie. She's determined to make sure Dixie is happy wherever she ends up.
This is a cute, short cozy mystery and the first in a series. It can easily be read in a few short hours. Even in such a short book, there are many twists and turns along the way to keep readers guessing at who the killer is.
Very enjoyable, sweet read. Perfect for this time of year when you want a quick read.
Christmas adjacent and mystery mild, DACHSHUND THROUGH THE SNOW, by Rosie A. Point is a brief, cozy that can be read in the time it will take you to drink two cups of coffee or tea.
Holly returned to her home town after a tough year. She’s almost broke and with a little help from her mom, she’s trying to start a dog walking business. Her first client turns up dead and she’s a suspect but the woman’s dog, Dixie, comes with an influx of cash that sustains her and gives her motivation to solve the murder and clear her name.
Simple, clean and nothing remotely procedural in sight, this is a small town, quirky tale that can fill a few minutes of downtime in the midst of your busy holiday season📚
This is 143 pages of pure sugar. It’s a very sweet cozy mystery, with most of the story happening inside a café and the murder centered around baked goods. It’s short and fun, but it sometimes felt a little YA to me because Holly, our main character, is extremely childish. There were moments where I actually flipped back to make sure she wasn’t supposed to be sixteen, between the diary-style entries and the constant “woe is me” attitude. After poking around a bit, I realized the author is from South Africa, which might explain the extra-sweet, almost storybook version of small-town USA she writes. The saving grace, though, was the adorable little Doxie named Dixie….she completely tugged at my heartstrings.
Oh my goodness, being the huge lover of all things dachshund that I am, this book put me in dachshund heaven! Finally, a main character dog is a dachsie...and I'm loving it!
The interaction between Holly and her sweet dog walking client's dog Dixie was just so cute! After finding said client dead, Holly discussed the case with Dixie along with writing in her diary which was a unique way of seeing a main character keep track of her clues.
With the help of a private investigator she'd talked to, Holly finally figured out whodunit and nearly became the next victim. But all ended great with a happily ever after for Dixie as well! I know this is just going to be a Christmas trilogy, but I'm so looking forward to the next book already! And I'm excited that it appears it's going to be available in Kindle Unlimited!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by BookSprout and the author, and my opinions are my own.
I always hear a nagging voice at the back of my head when I read a book like this. It tells me I should be reading more challenging material, or working harder to learn when I read. Can someone shut that voice up for me??? This book was about a dog walker who solves a murder and yes, I liked it. It took two hours to read and I still liked it. I'm probably going to download the next one and read it right away. It's the sort of soothing simple story my brain needs before bed and I have no regrets.
This was actually a super cute, short, little festive mystery with dogs! It was fast and fun...and honestly, with dogs and Christmas it is hard to get it wrong. Cannot wait to dive into the second one.
The story jumps straight into action, which is to be expected with a short book. I loved its cosy vibes. I have a dachshund, so naturally I had to read it!
After reading heavy thrillers, spicy romances and spicy fantasies, a cozy season murder to lighten up. It was a sweet read with a murder for Holly to solve. I wonder if in the next books she’ll let Detective Stokes into her heart. Dixie is the sweetest thing 🐾🐾 a nice, sweet read for the season.
This was a quick, fun read. Holly is looking forward to Christmas being a turning point in her life but, instead, finds herself suspected of murder. The only positive aspect of this is Dixie, the adorable dachshund she winds up caring for. Holly had found the victim while going to her home to pick up Dixie, the victim's dog, for her dog walking job. Feeling both the stares of fellow citizens who fear she might be guilty of murder and the potential wrath of her landlord who doesn't allow dogs in her apartment building, she sets out to prove her innocence and find the guilty party. Dixie even plays an important role in the solution to the mystery. There's a love interest, too, although the idea of a romance probably seems far-fetched to anyone not familiar with the ol' standard friction between amateur sleuth and the police, in this case Detective Stokes. Seems he was a bit of a bully to Holly in school. Hmm, I guess I'll have to read the next in the series to find out if my hunch pays off. Bottom line, a fun read that is relatively simple but realistic and that offers likeable characters that I'd like to get to know better. Daisy, a corgi mix rescue says Dixie deserves a treat and gives the book paws up.
