Hooked On You is the third and final book in the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader. My oh my oh my. This book! It is fantastic! I have loved this series from the start but this book…it’s the best of the batch! I had so many butterflies in my stomach from Bren St. James it’s a wonder I didn’t take flight myself. That man could melt the biggest glacier with his hotness. Well, let’s just get into this review so I can tell you all about it.



Violet Vasquez is the youngest of the three sisters that became part owners of the Chicago Rebels Ice Hockey team. Her two older sisters spent their entire lives trying to please their father. But he hadn’t even wanted anything to do with Violet. She spent her life wondering why he disliked her so much. So why, when he died, did he leave her a third of the team? So she, as per the rules of the will, had to temporarily relocate to Chicago and attend the home games. Where Harper and Isobel love owning the team, Violet just wants to do what’s required of her, and then take her money and leave. Her sisters have specific duties in the running of the team. Violet can’t seem to find her place. So she has become a sort of cheerleader of sorts. What no one but her sisters know, though, is that Violet is a cancer survivor. And this is her year. This is her year to experience things, to be brave, to be vibrant, the year of the “V!”



Bren St. James is the Captain of the team. He is divorced and the father of two beautiful daughters. He is also an alcoholic. It is only the generosity of Harper that he still has a spot on the team after going to rehab. Now all he wants is to mend his relationships with his daughters and gain back the respect of his team. No where in his recovery is there room for a very spunky woman with a pink stripe in her hair that seems to make him ache every time she is anywhere near him. But when his daughters unexpectedly get to come and live with him, he finds himself in need of a nanny he can trust, and Violet has a way with his girls. He trusts her. The question is, can he keep his hands off of her?



The Rebels have had quite a year. They have gone from being the worst team to being in the playoffs. A regular Cinderella story. I just can’t imagine how Bren was able to carry all of this on his shoulders. He is approaching a year of sobriety but still battles it every single day. He is trying to be the best he can be for his little girls. Being Captain of the team, he feels the pressure of not letting them down in the play offs, and fighting his attraction to Violet. Plus, he knows his ex-wife has some sort of scheme up her sleeve. He is just waiting for her to show her cards. How this man shouldered all of this I can’t imagine.



Both Violet and Bren were looking for their places in life. Neither felt like they fit. But somehow, together, they did. Things just felt right, looked brighter. But Violet makes sure her intentions are clear, she’s not staying. Chicago is not her home. The longer they are able to stay in the playoffs, though, the more time they have together. The more they both wonder how they will ever let the other go. The more they feel like a family with Bren’s girls. And these two women who were strangers to Violet not that long ago have started to feel like sisters, like a bond had formed between them and she somehow belonged.

This book! I sighed, I swooned. I laughed. The girls are so sweet. And while this series is wildy hot, this one, even though it has some very steamy moments, is more focused on Bren’s family. And there are plenty of the characters from the other books involved. You get lots of Remy and his New Orleans hotness, and Vadim, oh my gosh, that man is hilarious. And of course, Dante and Cade. I could not put this down. And if I was forced to, I was thinking about it. Kate Meader, thank you. Thank you for these characters that will live in my heart for a very long time. What a wonderful ride this series has been.

Since Irresistible You, the first in the Chicago Rebels series, I've been waiting for Violet and Bren's story. A free spirit and a brooding Scot? That has my name written all over it.

Violet's character has been portrayed as a snarky, cute firecracker who showed surprising depth when her sisters needed help sorting out their own lives. But you wouldn't guess at the hurt about her father's indifference and the constant fear she has been living with since her cancer diagnosis. When Violet inherits a third of the Chicago Rebels her plan is to fulfill the conditions her father expressed in his will, then sell her share and get the hell out of Dodge...but she didn't anticipate the fierce attraction she feels for the team's captain Bren St. James, who gives her the sexiest scowls which turn her into a puddle of need. Too bad he doesn't feel the same way, right?

Violet's propensity to needle Bren, always having a comeback on her lips had me laugh out loud frequently. She lives in the now and is determined to make "the year of the V" all about herself, which is not to say that she's selfish but having a health scare like hers just makes you look at things differently.

If you've read the other books in this series you know that Bren has a drinking problem. If not for Harper he would have been kicked off the team. After rehab he's now determined to not only make sure that he deserves this second chance but also repair the relationship with his daughters who have come to live with him, at least for a limited time. Being on the road a lot he needs somebody to look after his kids and while he totally underestimates Violet in the beginning, thinking of her as flighty and superficial, he soon realizes how good she is with them. If only she weren't temptation personified. He is spread thin with all the things going on in his life and a relationship with this woman who lights up his very soul would be doomed at this point. But who said they can't just...play?

Sixteen months without sex. That’s all it was. He was hard up, and his hard-on was making everything so fucking hard.

Bren was actually less broody than I expected. Yes, he had a lot of issues but he had a surprisingly positive outlook on his life. Doing right by his girls and Violet came always first and I loved him for that. I adored the way he was with his daughters - there is nothing more beautiful than a father who shows his love for his kids.

While Bren was a natural skater, he was a born father.

A love that Violet never had. It was obvious why she always gave way when it came to Cat and Franky -  with her own daddy issues she understood that they would always come first in Bren's life. Violet is incredibly aware of her environment and the people close to her, very smart, witty, full of life and sparkle and a wisdom beyond her age.

One of the scenes I found most endearing  was their reenacting Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It had most of my favorite characters from all books in it and was sweet and funny.

Speaking of, we get to catch up with them all. Harper and Remy is his charming sweet Southern self, as per usual, Isobel and Vadim who doesn't let us forget how adorable and hilarious he is in arrogance. And of course Cade and Dante, who have stolen my heart and were featured in the novella Undone by You. I can't say how much I loved Vi's and Cade's friendship - and her relationship with Izy and Harper which is getting stronger and more substantial. All of Violet's friends and family wanted her to be happy and helped her getting there.

Their collective group dynamic was just wonderful...

“You hungry, Vasquez?”
“Starving. I think Remy might have brought something, though.”
“Uh-oh,” Cade muttered. “Dante also brought something. Ingredients for pasta puttanesca.”
All attention shot to the chefs, watching as the two men sized each other up, kitchen masters about to throw down. This could get ugly real fast.
“DuPre,” Dante said, all gravity.
“Moretti,” Remy replied, equally serious.

Both of the main characters are at a point in their life where they wait for it to re-boot and start again, finding their place after so many changes. It's a little like standing in the waiting line and things are moving slow and I have to admit that I kind of felt a little bit like that in the first half of the book. Don't get me wrong, I loved this story so so much and my admiration for both Vi and Bren knows no bounds but the first part felt a little on the slower side.

The relationship is a deliciously slow burn but Violet and Bren's chemistry certainly sizzles from the beginning and will have your reproductive organs melting down.

The conclusion of the Chicago Rebels series had me laughing out loud, giggling like a school girl and swooning because of all the hotness that is Bren, Remy, Vadim, Cade and Dante - I will miss them all so much. Kate Meader has become an author I can count on to deliver thoroughly entertaining stories with buckets of humor and a very pleasant writing style. If you haven't read her books yet, the Chicago Rebels can all be read as standalones...but I'm sure once you've read one story in this series you'll want to read them all.

Sweet, romantic, and satisfying!

Hooked on You is a fervent, bittersweet tale that brings together the broody, guilt-ridden Bren, and the feisty, fun-loving Violet as they both discover that some things are worth fighting for and together they can overcome any baggage from their pasts.

The prose is emotive and smooth. The characters are hesitant, dependable, and affable. And the plot is an alluring mix of compassion, patience, attraction, friendship, addiction, parenthood, familial drama, hockey, combustible chemistry and unconditional love.

Hooked on You is the fourth and final novel in the Chicago Rebels series. It's a little rueful to say goodbye to the characters we've come to love but is nevertheless a lovely way to catch up on the whole gang and finally give Violet and Bren the happy-ever-after ending we've imagined for them from the very start.

If he could resist a drink, he could certainly resist the charms of Violet Vasquez. Siren. Temptress. His daughters’ primary caregiver.

This was definitely, hands down, my favorite book in the series. As soon as the grumpy Scot came on the scene, I've been salivating for his book. And it just doesn't get better than pairing him with a sassy and smart-mouthed Latina that doesn't take any of his broodiness. Man. I was in banter heaven.

Violet’s attention was a fresh slice of hell, because in a way it was. She reminded him of everything he couldn’t have. She reminded him of the man he used to be.

Bren was a broody, deliciously grumpy, recovering alcoholic. After almost losing his daughters and career to his drinking, he's determined to right his wrongs. As the captain of the team, he wants to bring them the Cup, and he wants full custody of his daughters. The one thing he doesn't need is a distraction in the form of one third of the Rebels owner and stunning Violet Vasquez.

For alcoholics, one drink was too many and a thousand were never enough. He suspected it would be the same with drinking down Violet, an addiction he couldn’t risk.

Violet isn't anything like her two sisters. She really doesn't want the team. She just wants to fulfill her duty in order to get her piece of the will from the father that never wanted her, and to hightail it back. But Violet is also nothing like what she seems. This is a woman with a past, and one that carries so much responsibility and strength on her tatted shoulders. She likes to appear like the good time party girl, but she's so much more than that. She's a survivor. She's a fighter. She's a woman that puts up a hard front that hides a soft heart. When she met Bren a year ago and he turned her down flat at a bar thinking her another hockey groupie, they've gone into a delicious back and forth of suppressed sexual tension and desire. GOD. It was soooooo good.

This wasn’t a textbook or fairy-tale kiss. This wasn’t smooth or gentle. It was hard and needy and unrepentant. It was Violet. It was Bren. It was everything.

I adored the way Violet had with Bren's little girls and the bond they formed. I loved the slow burn between her and Bren. I couldn't get enough of the strength they offered to each other and the way they each filled in the broken pieces in the other.

With her he felt renewed. Changed. Worthy. With her he felt like the man he was meant to be.

Hooked on You was romantic perfection. It was full of emotion and brimming with passion. It was swoony and sweet, humorous and the absolute perfect book to conclude this series with.

I could say so many things about this book. But I'm just going to put this here :
I ended cutting short sunday family lunch under false pretense just so I could go back to Bren and Violet in "Hooked on You".
I felt ashamed for like two minutes, then resumed my reading in my favorite corner on the couch, coffee in hand, knowing I'd get whatever scraps of dessert I'd skipped earlier anyways.
And I was at that point in the book when this troubled, brooding, bearded half Scot/half Canadian single dad and hockey player was finally putting the moves on Violet and end the most excruciating slow burn. (And spoiler alert, it did not disappoint!!!)
Vibrant and valiant Violet, I've found myself connecting with that heroine on really personal levels, you got to love a fragile heroine hiding her insecurities under a tough armor.
Violet pricking at the bearded Scot beast, teasing relentlessly, mercifully with charm and gusto. I love her humor, her resilience... I love her everything!
Camille The Angry Reader loved this book as well and fell in love with the characters. Can't blame her, Bren and Violet are just irresistible.

This is the third book in the series and so it's time for the last sister to get her man ;)

This series is about three sisters, who inherited a hockey team together, when their father died... This book is about Violet, who is the youngest sister. Violet is the result of a one night stand, and even though her father knew she excisted, he never showed any interest in her. Until he died that is.



Now Violet is part owner of a hockey team, with two sisters she doesn't know that well. She doesn't really know what is expected of her though. Her sisters have both found their place within the team, but Violet is struggeling with her role. She will probably just sell her part to her sisters, when the season is done. She really likes Harper and Isobel , so she is doing her best.

Bren St. James is the Captain of the Chicago Rebels hockey team. He has been struggeling for a long time...with his marriage/divorce, his kids and most of all...with alcohol.



He has been sober for almost a year now, and it looks like he might be getting custody of his two daughters... He is really attracted to Violet, but he thinks she is a wild child and he doesn't want anything to rock the boat when it comes to his daughters.

Little does he know, that she will be the best thing that ever happend to them and to him !!

These two were sweet and extremely HOT....damn that man. I mean who doesn't like a hot scotsman ??!!



This book was definitely my favorite out of the three. Probably because I really liked Violet and Bren was the man !!!

If you are looking for something sweet, funny and hot, you should really give this series a try !

Apparently I was so so keen to read this book in October of 2017 (even though it wouldn't be out until May 2018).. that it took until July 2019 to actually read it. Go me!

"I, more than anyone, understand how they will happily remove your heart, hold it bloodied and pulped to the sky, and offer in sacrifice to whichever gods they pray to."
"Does Isobel seriously put up with this shit?"
"She has accused me of drama on occasion. I have no idea why."

So it's been over a year since I was rubbing elbows with these characters but it was so easy slipping back into the Chicago Rebels world. Which says something about the level of memorable-ness of both these characters and Meader's world. A world which is pretty hilarious, full of hockey, hotties, and generally has at least one or two heavy topics to wield, or work through, before we see that HEA. As you do.

The beauty of AA was that no matter what city you were in or the time of day, there was usually a meeting happening nearby. Dallas was no different. [..] The team might be his brothers, but these strangers were his tribe.

This matchup between the grumpy Scot and the sassy Latina has been building for a while (see aforementioned 2017 excitement..) and I won’t say it disappointed. I definitely enjoyed this more than book two, the only other one I couldn’t round up on, because I think the balance between the humour, the joy, and the serious, was just.. right. Violet with her health scare, Bren with his alcoholism, both resisting the other for their own reasons. Throw in some single dad-ness, with two kids who were neither too overwhelmingly present or too precocious, and it was a great mix of Doing The Right Thing for the Right Reasons while still agonizing and angst-hate-flirting.

"Do you have some sort of Fleetwood Mac kink?
"Kink? No. I’m a fan, like any right-thinking human."

But there were also weird transitions or hiccups in their dynamic that would sometimes take me out of the moment, and I’m not quite sure why or how it happened. It was almost like being one step out of sync, things just wouldn’t line up, and it would take a moment for the record to stop skipping. But when that wasn’t interrupting my fun, there was also a lot of that ‘final book lets wrap up all couples and get hitched and/or pregnant’ cheese that, I mean, sure we know to expect it. But, again, cheese. Additionally there was a lot of evil ex behaviour syndrome. Which, fair, this is from last year (and likely written well before that) and I think we’ve since seen a down-turn, and taken strides to stop, with this trope but.. still. It existed. A lot. And suddenly.. it didn’t?

"Been that long?"
"Hilarious."

This is definitely a high three, because there was a lot of strength — like Violet not giving in when you think she might, which, for example, was definitely a highlight and also bucked a convenient romance trend — and fun, but those moments holding it back, well. It held it back. I might have felt differently last year but.. shrug emoji.

I have an ARC of Meader’s spinoff for this world, though, and I’m so excited to dive in. One of the many reasons I finally caught up on this series/book, hah. Because, yeah, complaints aside, this series has been a mostly four-star experience for me and I love this female-run, while also managed and supported by the first (in this world) out gay man in hockey (or was Cade out first? I can’t remember! either way! LGBTQIA+ friendly!), hockey team.. because who doesn’t love a Cinderella, underdog, against-all-odds-like-sexism-and-homophobia success story. But at the same time I’ll be kinda glad to leave behind the daddy issues and branch out and get a new angle on things. Like, say, an angle that features a journalist and an ex-Special Forces turned rookie? Hi hello.

This book had so much emotion tied to it. It makes us realize that not everyone is as they seem on the outside. We all have hurt and emotion of some sort tied up inside. And sometimes that makes us act a certain way. Maybe people don’t understand us or we try and push them away… That is Bren and Violet.

The author did a wonderful job on this story. She brought together two people that seem to be complete opposite‘s and tied them together in a way that grew their bond and showcases their love. Deep passion, plenty of spark and steamy connections, and a love of family makes this book unforgettable.

Hooked On You is a entrancing read with a lot of complexity to it but yet, when you get down to brass tacks, it’s all about love. A language we all speak and understand.

I am sad this series is ending. Do you have to read them in order? Not really (you might want to tho). But you do want to read them all to understand the story and to get to know the hot men of the Chicago Rebels. I cannot wait to see what is next from this author. Always an experience not to be missed!

I’ve been enjoying Kate Meader’s Chicago Rebels series. These hockey skaters were so passionate on and off the ice, and just plain hot!

Violet was a little different from the other two Chase sisters in that she wasn’t outwardly acknowledged until after the death of Clifford Chase, she wasn’t raised in a life of privilege, and she was not involved with hockey until her father died and left a third of the team to her. Clifford really treated Violet the worst, IMO, because he never tried to get to know her and didn’t officially claim her as his daughter like he did with Harper and Isobel. Clifford Chase was an asshole to all his daughters, but I think Violet really got the short end of the stick growing up. Can’t say I was a big fan of her mother either when I found out how Violet was conceived.

I did love the chemistry between Bren and Violet when they got past Bren’s fear Violet’s wild side. I did admire that Violet vowed to live the heck out of life after surviving breast cancer, but I can’t say she was my favorite of the Chase sisters (that award goes to Isobel!). She didn’t let her sisters in completely at first, and she kept pushing Bren away, as well. Not a fan of someone who keeps their shields up and isn’t honest about their feelings. Also, I wasn’t a fan of the predictable drama at the 85% mark, and I think Cade summed it up perfectly when he said: “I reckon you’re both total idiots.”

Still despite some of the negatives, I did really enjoy this romance. Bren and Violet snarky exchanges were fun before they gave into that irresistible pull, and then they steamed of the pages with sexy encounters! Loved that Harper and Isobel were supportive and determined to make Violet feel loved and part of the family until she finally came around. The epilogue was lovely and made me wish there were more books in the series.

Violet Vasquez, the third daughter of Clifford Chase, deceased father and all around not so great guy, left her a third stake in the Chicago Rebels hockey team. Having survived breast cancer, this is the Year of the V. And she’s bound and determined to live it up. Then she meets Bren St. James, captain of the Chicago Rebels, and her employee. Sparks fly but Bren isn’t in any position to fan them - he’s too busy trying to stay sober and get his daughters back. His coming up on his 1 year of sobriety, and he needs someone to help him take care of his girls while gets his team to the ultimate hockey goal. Something that he doesn’t want Violet to do, a woman who’s too much a temptation, a woman who could become as addicting as anything he’s ever tasted.

As the playoffs race to their inevitable conclusion, Violet and Bren’s attraction heats up and yep, you guessed it - romance happens.



The Good
-Final installment lived up to the hype. I have been a fan of this series now, with its skillful blend of hockey and wonderfully fun, romantic pairings. Ms. Meader has a talent for creating great banter, well developed characters and while most of these romantic setups are a tad problematic (the boss getting involved with the employee is a double edged sword, but undoubtedly one of my favorite tropes. This series has at least made the women the ones in positions of power and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. But the one I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for is Violet and Bren’s story. Now, I was concerned that when you wait for two characters to finally get their chance to shine, the stories can occasionally fall flat because it’s too dependent on the earlier books, and not enough time is given to developing their chemistry and emotional connection. No need to worry - Violet and Bren shine bright like a diamond of the first water.

-Awesome Puerto Rican heroine. Violet opened my eyes, literally and figuratively.

She made me realize what I was missing in my Romancelandia. She’s my first Puerto Rican heroine (and as a Puerto Rican woman on a racially diverse blog, this shocked and saddened me). She’s set me on the path to finding other Puerto Rican heroines, because I loved her so much. I’d seen glimpses of her life throughout the other books, but having her front and center was exactly what I wanted and needed. That she's the closer on a top notch series? Heaven.

I never realized how rare it was to see a Puerto Rican woman starring and shining in her own love story and how much that kind of personal representation would mean to me. She’s survived breast cancer, had a absentee father and a caring yet hard mother and this shaped her into a wonderfully empathetic, funny, vibrant and caring woman. She’s moved to a strange city and reached out to her half-sisters, all while keeping what makes her unique. She’s been brushed aside, people have tried to make her feel lesser and she refuses to let them. I loved her and she flat out guaranteed that this book is going to be one of my favorites this year, and I will always remember her.

-Sexy AF Scottish-Canadian hero. Oh Bren, the minute you were referred to a mashup of Jason Momoa and Gerard Butler with a Scottish accent, I was done for. *stares off blindly* Ok, so I lost focus after “Jason Momoa” but I can live with that. Bren’s been through his share of suffering, his alcoholism leaving him in a place emotionally where he knows he’s still vulnerable, but he cannot take his eyes off of Violet. She runs in his blood, and you can feel his desire for her coming off the page. Lord, I want to fan myself. Yeah, his love for Violet made me love him.

-Firsts done well. I will always be a big believer in how the Firsts of a romance can dictate the strength of my love, and here the first are sooooo damn sexy. Both characters are attracted, but the emotional component isn’t neglected for that attraction and it makes all the difference.
-Hockey plays its role well. Hockey is in this series’ blood and you get to enjoy the romance without losing sight of the ultimate hockey goal. There are game scenes that give that sense of urgency, and the climax was exactly what you hope for. Well…..

The (Mildly) Bad(ish)
-Hmmm. Ok, if I’m going to be picky (and ‘tis what I do), the final game should have been in Boston (the finals are always 2 home, 2 away, then 1 at each venue as needed) since the Rebels weren’t the home team. Only because I’m a hockey fan would this little detail even stick out to me. But I loved Violet and Bren so damn much that it didn’t matter in the long run. The drama of the ending wouldn’t be as impactful if it was completely accurate, so I’m officially over it.

Everything in Between
-Works as a standalone. Just be forewarned, you’re going to want to read the earlier books. The heroes and heroines all make an appearance and play their supporting roles to Violet and Bren and make this ‘verse that more vibrant and alive, and there’s no denying that I closed my kindle on a happy sigh.



I loved it, and Violet and Bren are officially my favorite couple of the series. If you love hockey, Latina heroines and sexy hot hockey players, do yourself a favor and read this book, fall in love then pick up this series. I highly recommend it.

I shed a lot of tears reading Hooked On You; tears for Bren St. James, a recovering alcoholic trying to lead his team to the Stanley Cup and reconnect with his two young daughters, tears for Violet Vasquez, a cancer survivor trying to figure out her place in the world while connecting with her half sisters while running a professional hockey team, tears for two young girls trying to understand why their life has been uprooted again, and tears because I knew this was the last book in this series and I have loved it so much. Two people both with something to prove find their way to each other despite their prickly personalities, interfering but well meaning family and friends, and lots of crazy, fun banter.

To say Bren St. James has been fighting an uphill battle is putting it mildly, he alcoholism led him to making a huge mistake with his girls and his ex-wife taking them to live with her new boyfriend far away and ordered to either go to rehab or lose his job with the Chicago Rebels. Eight months after getting out of rehab, his life is turned upside down when his ex-wife checks herself into a clinic for a “rest” and as the playoffs begin he has his girls full-time. He is thrilled to have the chance to reconnect with his daughters, but it some at the worst possible time and he knows that his ex will show up again soon just to f*ck with his head.

From the moment she met Bren, Violet Vasquez has made it her mission to try and get under his skin and in his pants, but she hates that he seems to have a less than stellar opinion of her. However when he sees how she relates to his children, he knows she is the best one to stay with them when he is on the road. Being in his house with his children only makes her long for him more, but she is determined to put that aside until he is ready and his children are adjusted to their new life.

I really loved the push-pull of Bren and Violet’s relationship and the fact they both were trying to figure out their lives, their new normal. There was something sweet about the way they opened up to one another and began to trust each other explicitly. I loved the slow burn to get to the physical aspect of their relationship and the little lies they told themselves that this was temporary. While at times they both frustrated me with their behavior, it was indicative of all the changes in their lives and the stress of the run for the Stanley Cup.

What I really appreciated about this book is that we got a lot of face time with Violet’s sisters, Bren’s teammates who have been there with him through thick and thin, and Bren’s children who had such a unique look on life and brought childhood wonder into what could have been a very heavy story.

I’m always sad when a series ends especially one that I have loved but with Hooked On You, Ms. Meader takes the Chicago Rebels out on a very high note

Amazing covers, amazing series…

Whew… I knew when I first spotted the book covers that underneath was going to be something beautiful. Each story built on the next – a family built around hockey, a group of characters brought together through sport, friendship and some lucky ones, love. There was dysfunction and pain, laughter and tears and above all, love. This was the final story so reading Violet and Bren’s story was bittersweet…

“Fear could go fuck itself.”

Violet has been the rebel character throughout it all. Surviving a life changing event had made her appreciate life more and be more confident in her choices. A step apart from her half-siblings due to circumstance, she was thrown into the Chase family – and the Rebels – like a fish out of water. She didn’t conform though. She stayed true to herself while still building friendships with the players and her sisters. Her unconventional style was different but that made her even more special…

Bren was recovering from addiction and from a life derailed. With his daughters back in his life he was doing everything by the book. On and off the ice he focused on each day being sober and present for his girls, for his team, and for himself. His attraction to Violet was mutual but that didn’t mean he felt it was right, at least right now…

Oh, how I wanted to grab these two and shake them about a bit as they were both so obviously made for each other. From the love they shared for his girls to the passion they felt for each other, it was clear to me – and everyone – that their relationship was not something casual or brief. Their journey from almost intolerance to unwavering support and devotion was a leap of faith and sequence of events that had me cheering for the team and for their love to win…

This series has been a passionate, family-focused, hockey-filled journey of love and it was AMAZING! ~Diane, 5 Stars

A fabulous ending to what has become a favorite series of mine. Bren and Violet have been tap dancing around each other since the beginning and their inevitable hookup scorches the pages. Violet is hilarious, her jokes and one liners kept me laughing. There are a lot of layers here, besides the hotness of which is Bren and Violet. We get Bren and his attempt to salvage his relationship with his daughters. His bitch of an ex wife threatening to ruin it all. Violet and her relationship with her sisters, her trying to keep her distance, them not allowing it. Violet the nanny and her relationship with Bren's girls. Violet with her buddies Dante and Cade and Bren's relationship with his hockey brothers. All of these intertwining relationships are fabulous. I love all of them. My favorite though (this is a hockey series after all) is the race for the cup. I felt like I was right there in the playoffs with them. That was a huge part of the series as the team had to make the playoffs for the girls to keep ownership of the team and it was glossed over in the last book. Thankfully hockey is front and center in this one. I really will miss this series and this group of characters. I highly recommend it! 5 stars for the book and series!

I was so happy to get an ARC for this one. I was turned down for the novella "Undone By You" ( I borrowed that one through Overdrive).
I loved Violet and Bren's story.
Violet is very assertive on the outside & vulnerable on the inside. She never met her dad Clifford. She's the youngest of the 3 sisters. Her mom had a one night stand- who was never in a relationship with Clifford.
As explained in the very beginning of book 1 (Harper's book), Daddy Clifford was a serial cheater.
Violet, Harper and Isobel are closer in this book. They are so different in personalities and in the lives they've lead so far. Violet does still feel a little like the outsider. She has yet to find a role in the Rebels' organization.
All of the other Rebels Hockey team and supporting characters are back.
The Rebels are in a do or die Stanley Cup series finals.
Meanwhile, Bren and Violet are starting their romance. They try to keep it secret, but no one is fooled.
There are several hot scenes. Bren has custody of his 2 young daughters, Franky and Catriona. They're adolescent so Bren and Violet are discrete with the girls around.
Bren's ex-wife is out of the picture for a majority of the book. A looming custody battle is hanging over Bren.
Bren is the captain of the Rebels and a recovering alcoholic. He sure has a lot on his plate.
Violet is great with Bren's daughters. She helps take care of them while Bren and the team are competing in the play offs.
Violet and Bren have opposite personalities-but I think that they seemed very compatible. They both thought there'd be a shelf- life. Bren realizes first that he has stronger feelings but is worried about his ex gathering ammunition for the custody battle.
There was a late in the book conflict and resolution that had me thrown-especially Violet's reaction.
Bren, well my opinion of him grew over the entire book. His determination to stay sober for his girls was written so well. Very realistic, IMHO.
As I mentioned the others were great supporting characters. Harper is a great leader. She had 1/3 of the team but served as the CEO in every way. Harper was such a great supporter of Bren. I got to catch up and read more about the other couples: Harper/Remy; Isobel/Vadim, and Dante/Cade. There's a cameo by a couple for the Hot in Chicago series. I loved that!
The last couple of scenes seemed a little corny/cheesy, but did provide more sweet romance. The epilogue was perfect though. I want more into the future (hint hint)
I really loved this book. 4.5 stars. I do think that Isobel & Vadim's book (book 2) was my favorite. More romantic. I loved the taking naps/cuddling scenes. Those were such ahhh moments for me.
I loved the entire series. I love Ms Meader's writing style.

Violet Vasquez is a vibrant, valiant and vivacious with a new lease on life who unexpectedly finds she’s owner of a third of the Chicago Rebels hockey franchise. The other two thirds belonging to her half-sisters who she’ll have to get to know and work with in order to get her share of the inheritance. She wasn’t really interested until she comes across the brooding half Scot, half Canadian team captain and knows she won’t walk away until she gets him.

Bren St. James had it all, the team’s captaincy, the multi million contract, the beautiful wife and even more beautiful and loving children and nearly lost it all because of his drinking problem. Being lucky enough to get a second chance Bren is now rebuilding his career and life as a single father. He doesn’t need any distractions but the feisty temptress and now primary caregiver to his daughters, Violet, is proving to be an addiction he can’t resist. Can he become the man his team, his daughters and Violet deserve?

The attraction between Bren and Violet was delicious torture that kept me turning page after page. I cheered them on in each book and greedily devoured their story. Meader provides two captivating main characters, each a bit lost by past sufferings. Violet though brave and resilient, covered her insecurities with humor while Bren battled his addition and failures as a father and team captain. Both must learn to trust in themselves and each other to bask in the happiness and love they deserve.

Along with the romance, there are other elements in this story that make it so enjoyable like Bren’s adorable daughters, the incredible relationship that’s been forged between Violet and her sisters, the return of all the couples in the past books which could be considered as goodness overload, and oh yes! that incredibly swoon worthy epilogue. Meader delivers an intoxicating tale that’s full of awesome feels!

Hooked on you is book #3 of the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader. It is a sweet, steamy and heartfelt hockey romance. Told by both points of view with an even more swoon worthy ending.

Kate Meader’s writing is always one that I look out for. There’s quirk, some humour and sometimes cheese, but it never fails to entertain. ‘Hooked On You’ closes Meader’s Chicago Rebels series and having come fresh off the scorching push-pull relationship of Cade/Dante, I really wasn’t sure what to expect with Violet/Bren’s story, even though this pairing had been hinted at from the very beginning.

A burly, surly Scot in trouble on so many fronts and a plucky, somewhat abrasive and determined-to-live-life-to-the-fullest cancer survivor? I took a breath and dove into a setup that was 3-books-in-coming and had my expectations exceeded on some fronts, especially when it came to Bren St. James.

As an alcoholic struggling with petulant pre-teens—the kind that swing between being difficult with everything and weird know-it-alls—I felt for Bren, his clawing back up into sobriety while doing everything he could to be a better man and a father. That Violet ended up as their nanny incidentally came as no surprise however, and I did enjoy reading how their initial rocky, contentious, sniping-type interaction smoothed out a little later on, held together only by sexual tension that Bren didn’t want to break for good reasons.

Meader’s exploration of what femininity might mean through Violet—having lost and reconstructed her breasts after the ordeal—was generally spot-on. With a hard front, a couldn’t-care-less, indifferent attitude that Violet put on, the shell of armour composed of sass, biting sarcasm and confrontational belligerence seemed too often like an over compensation for a vulnerable core. And I could, by and large, understand it. I got to grips with how fear could masquerade as courage and how the subtleties could be lost as Violet grappled with how she wanted to face life after cancer.

Still, while I understood Meader’s portrayal of Violet, I didn’t necessarily get to grips with her all the time. With a boatload of daddy-issues tattooed on her forehead and a chip on her shoulder a mile wide, I couldn’t help but feel that Violet was as easy to set off as a rocket, sometimes lashing out unfairly while taking on contradictory positions where Bren and his children were concerned. One moment she wanted to fight for Bren when his malicious ex-wife sauntered back into the picture, the next moment had her walking away with a dollop of self-pity because she’d assumed the martyr’s stance with him while assuming that he wasn’t ever going to put her first. For her immense courage in fighting the cancer, I did wish however, that she could have used that same courage with Bren (who truly had his hands full) when he needed it.

‘Hooked on You’ is nonetheless a pretty good read—Meader’s previous novella with Cade/Dante is probably my favourite—though honestly, I liked it more for Bren, who’s probably one of the best characters I’ve ever come across beneath the broody surface. There were bits that I thought lagged a little and parts where the back-and-forth got a tad tiresome, but overall, I’m still sort of wistful as I wave the Rebels goodbye.

I went through this series with maximum speed… I think I was reading one book per day, which is very fast, even for me ;) but I was having a lot of fun and was very curious to see how it will end :) I liked this installment, but again, none of the other books in this series quite reached that 5 stars level of the first one… I swear, Remy stole my heart and never gave it back :) but this one, all about Violet and Bren was really good… even though there were things that annoyed me, specifically about our main characters, but they weren’t big enough to ruin my experience :) solid 4 stars, possibly 4,5 even and a great addition to the series :)

I loved this book and series! So sad it's over. Kate Meader's writing and storytelling really work for me, and this book was no different. Really enjoyed the sexual tension between Bren and Violet. I enjoyed how they were so different yet such a terrific balance for each other. And when they got together, it was super sexy!

I also loved the relationship between the sisters and how that played out in this book, and I also enjoyed how the whole "Rebels Family" came together to support everyone at various times. Seeing all of the relationships from other books continue was really cute and fun, and it just pulled it all together into one sweet finale.

This is the final book in the series and Bren and Violet’s story.

Bren begins as a surly, gruff, moody, keep to himself person, who is also the Captain of the Chicago Rebel hockey team. He is a recovering alcoholic, divorced and dad of 2 young girls. His life is in chaos dealing with his recovery, his ex-wife, fighting for full custody of his two girls and trying to lead his team to a championship. From book one I have been curious about this guy and knew there had to be so much more to his facade.

Violet is the youngest of the Chase sisters, and a half sibling the older two sisters didn’t know existed until recently. She is a bit of a wild child, having survived breast cancer and deciding to live life to its fullest.

Bren and Violet initially meet at a bar, where neither knows who the other is. He’s fresh out of rehab and she’s new to town. He rebuffs her advances and so their rocky “relationship” begins. They spend the next 9 months intentionally irritating each other. Violet encased herself in a sassy, snarky, tough as hell exterior to hide all the insecurities inside. Bren didn’t want to start a relationship in the midst of all his upheaval, so he tried his darndest to keep Violet at arm’s length. It came as no surprise to me that she ends up as his nanny.

Bren turns out to be quite a man, doing everything he can to deal with/acknowledge his addiction, remain sober, be a good dad and become a better person and Captain for his team. Violet irked me a couple times with inconsistencies in her personality.

I loved seeing the team comradery again. These guys have each other’s backs on and off the ice and hold each other accountable. The Chase sisters also make big strides in their relationship.

All in all a good finish to the series. I will be looking for more from this author.

The end of Hooked on You had me in tears. It was a bittersweet ending for this trilogy. I loved reading about the journey that the Chicago Rebel sisters had gone through; surviving personal troubles, hardships of owning a hockey team, finding sisterhood and of course, love.

This installment finishes off with the last sister, Violet, who has had the toughest time. Growing up with only with her mom, battling cancer, and trying to find her way into her estranged sisters’ life. Now that she’s part owner of the Chicago Rebels, she’s finding her way to deserve the spot. Though she doesn’t plan to stay, she’s slowing finding reasons to stay. That being her sisters, and of course the broody Bren St.James.

The hardships with Violet’s health, Bren’s trouble with his ex-wife, custody battle and his past with alcoholism humanized them. It made it easy for me to relate to their issues. I especially love that they had their priority straight. Their romance was sweet, and Bren is all kinds of hockey hotness. Kate Meader did an extraordinary job with this book and I give an overall five-star rating for the whole series.

For as much as I was anticipating this one, I'm so sad the Rebels are coming to a close with this installment.

BUT this was such a great ending to all of their stories, and I'm so happy we got to follow along on Bren and Violet's journey.


Two little sprites, a demon on four legs, and a - what should he call Violet?
A siren. A temptress.
A pain in his ass.

Bren, the lovable Scotsman (aka Nessie), finally has his two daughters back and nothing is going to take them away again. He's a year sober - from alcohol, and women. But Violet, the third owner of the Chicago Rebels, is making it realllyyyy difficult to uphold his stance on relationships.

She taunts him at every turn, and flounces around with this infectious energy he can't seem to stay away from.

So, when he's in need of a nanny and she's available, he puts himself to the real test: resisting Violet's charms.

And OH boy, their back and forth was so endearing. And her interaction with his two girls was so adorable.

Soon, they're playing house and things come to a head. He's tired of pretending he's unaffected, and so is she.


"Dios, please."
"Yeah, you'd better pray to your god, 'cause I'm going to take you to the edge and pull you back. I'm going to show you the meaning of torture, woman."

Violet is so used to not having a place in the world with her father's dismissal and her mother after the money that comes with her father's death. Bren takes it upon himself to show her how important she is to all of them, that they're a family.

It's just a sweet story, all around. I couldn't put it down.

This is Violet's and Bren's story. From previous books we know things have been cooking with these two and it finally exploded.

Bren is a recovering alcoholic, captain of the Rebels team. He's a divorced father of two adorable girls who's decided to seek custody after their mother had a breakdown and went to a spa. Throughout the book we get to see Bren's struggle with his disease,from AA meetings to resisting temptation I'm glad that this author didn't make it seem that it was an easily fixed situation. At the beginning Bren said to Harper that he didn't want Violet babysitting his children. When his nanny options fell through however he asked for her help. Close proximity to the flirtatious Violet and a year long celibacy proved to be his weakness and pretty soon they're involved in a sex buddies relationship especially as Violet plans to leave after the Rebels win the cup.

Despite her being supportive to Cade,her humor and joking I wasn't Violet's fan. Her past is just not one I was comfortable with and considering she'd had a cancer scare and had a double mastectomy I found the wild child act to be a bit immature. She claimed to be celebrating the year of the V but aside from trying to get in Bren's pants from day 1 I really wanted to see Violet come into her own. Her two year celibacy after having implants done just made it seem all about her hormones. She refused his help at a crucial moment and has her own share of hurt inflicted by a neglectful and absent father. This was a great moment to hit this reader with a "I am woman,hear me roar"type of mc but sadly that's not what was delivered It's only after things came to a head with Bren that she started following up on her vague ideas of getting a degree.

I found their relationship to be awkward, after going along as the previous couples found true love Violet and Bren just didn't measure up. She was willing to accept whatever he was able to give her, one sentiment that's guranteed to piss me off. The big conflict when Bren's ex came back ( him thinking she looked good deserved my bitch slapping hand irregardless of how much he didn't like her)and told him that the tattooed up Violet wouldn't help his chances was really overbearing. Shouldn't he have put his kids first? Couldn't she understand how she really could be used against him? Couldn't they suggest maybe toning things down until after the custody battle? In all reality a single dad bonking a Nanny with Violet's lifestyle really wouldn't have helped Bren's case! I really needed to see some maturity there instead of a short separation.
Bren is weighed down with guilt over his actions previous to rehab. He'd been struggling with alcoholism his whole life and made some really shitty choices because of it. I'm glad that he and his girls got to the other side.

All in all, the mcs of this one weren't my favorite but seeing the team especially Remy win the cup was a glorious moment. The epilogue saved this book for me. I'd hoped the series would've ended on a Better note but nevertheless this author has become one I'll definitely be following.

Hooked On You by Kate Meader was such a good read.
The storyline was entertaining, the characters were likable, engaging and my interest was captured from the first page until the end.

I loved Violet and Bren, they made me laugh and swoon and their story touched my heart.
These two had painful pasts and with each others love and support they were able to find peace and acceptance. They truly belonged together.

Hooked On You is a wonderful addition to the Chicago Rebels series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all!

I've been waiting very patiently for this book just to get me some more of Bren. When Kate Meader introduced him in book one as big, broody and a Jason Mamoa look alike...I was sold and he did not disappoint. Add in him being such a great dad to two little girls, well lets just say there will be many hearts falling for this guy.

As much as I like to dedicate my whole review to Bren, Violet held her own against him. You learned in previous books that she survived breast cancer but we only got to see her as the fun loving woman who just wanted to enjoy life. Who could blame her for that? I'm so glad we got to see a deeper side to her. There was so much more to learn about her and enjoy about her character. I hurt for her and I rejoiced for her. She is type of character you wish you could get to know in real life.

I'm sad to see this series end. We've gotten to know some fun characters that kept us entertained. I also really loved the message of girl power in this series. I don't think we see enough of women being lifted up and Kate Meader did a fantastic job of that. These books can be read as a standalone but you will get so much more if you start from the beginning and get to know all these characters from the start. ARC provided by NetGalley.
