The detective stories of well-known British writer Dorothy Leigh Sayers mostly feature the amateur investigator Lord Peter Wimsey; she also translated the Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri.
This renowned author and Christian humanist studied classical and modern languages.
Her best known mysteries, a series of short novels, set between World War I and World War II, feature an English aristocrat and amateur sleuth. She is also known for her plays and essays.
While the stories in this collection are generally top notch, it’s an odd collection from the authors early years. I didn’t know if they meant it was the author’s first 12 published stories or just what this audiobook publisher could get.
I think the “copper fingers” story gets picked up quite a bit.
Peter W. Is best when he is discounted as a “silky goose” detective. You can see the steel start to emerge from behind the feathers.
I usually don’t really enjoy short stories, but these were delightful and new to me so I enjoyed solving them with Lord Peter Wimsey, dilettante detective.
