I was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1976 and still live there under the caring eyes of my wife and two Norwegian Forest cats. Originally a publishing salesman, I couldn't resist the lure of writing, and after over a dozen years of playing the gamemaster in pen-and-paper groups, not to mention reading hundreds of fantasy novels, I decided to finally try to write a story myself that I thought might be worth telling. And so my novel Ahren was published in Germany, the first in the best-selling series The 13th Paladin.
When I am not creating new worlds and stories, I like to relax by playing pen-and-paper and story rich video games, reading or binging on TV series. I also practise Jiu Jitsu and the art of handling ancient Japanese weapons like the Katana or the Bo Staff.
Aber who knows.
This one snuck out a 3. At the halfway point, I thought this one was destined for a 2. It was slow and my favorite character was not present. At 2/3 through, though, some of my favorite chapters of the series yet! 1 or 2 stars for most of the book, but some really high highs!!
Ahren and his companions fight their way into the interior of the deadly Forest of Ire to the besieged Wrath Elf town of Dhalvanti. They hope to discover the cause of the encroaching blight that is making the forest more deadly than normal and to stop it. Hopefully they can remedy this quickly as there are other problems requiring their immediate attention: helping the Green Sea clans, and finding the rest of the paladins. Just getting there they lost all their guides, now they have to journey to the Heart of the Forest to discover what’s wrong.
Since she’s supposed to be in love with Ahren and she’s supposed to be in charge of Muai, Khara should have said something to Muai about behaving herself around Ahren and Culhen. It would make their lives a lot easier.
I love the part where the discover the source of the corruption in the south of the Forest. Did not expect that.
Foot note: 1) I have a love/hate relationship with series that are still being written. I love that I’ll get more, but I hate that I have to wait for the next one to be published (or translated).
Fave scenes: choosing the next dwarf king, Ahren loaning Cullen’s brush to the boy, Jelninolan’s gift to the Wrath Elves and escaping the flower pollen.
Really enjoying this series, and this book was a good addition. Following Ahren’s journey has been a great adventure. Watching him grow to a strong self-confident young man was really something. He is a great character, and he has really good friends. The story doesn’t always flow well, and grammar can be questionable, but I know this is a translation and take it at that. Some things are inexcusable, like an incorrect character name used, or not being clear on which character is actually speaking. Something that also really stood out to me was characters changing eye color. On more than one character at that. We don’t get a whole lot of character description, so I try to pay attention to how they are described so I can get a picture in my head. When it suddenly changes, that can be quite jarring. Otherwise, I am very much enjoying this author’s imagination, and am waiting, somewhat impatiently :), for the next. Nice job.
I wasn't sure if I'd like this series at the beginning, however, as thre story of this boy becoming a man and developing his character continued I became more drawn in with each new discovery, each new challenge and every new face that graced the pages. I waited (not so) patiently for this book and am looking forward to continuing this journey that lies ahead. Write on!
This series kept me wanting to read when I had things I needed to do. Such as go to work. I didn't find anything I didn't like about these books and am really looking forward to the next one. There were a few errors that the proof readers missed but context won over and it was easy to figure out what was meant to be.
This series continues to draw you in, entertaining with original story lines and characters you become very attached to. This book is a little darker than the others, but has its bright and hopeful moments too. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This is another fantastic chapter in Arens saga ! Well written with superlative prose by a great author . He has imbued his character s with strengths and a deep level of joy and of sorrow . Wow ! A great journey .
There is a lot to love about the story. The diversity and imagination-and the telling of it, to bring it alive. My thanks to the author for some wonderful tales.
Queen and his friends conquer the evil forces that corrupted the forest if Ireland made it into its original name The Forest of Valor. Now the band of Paladins will move on to the Green Sea to destroy that evil necromanser
I have been following the story since the very first book. It is awesome and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Please keep up the great work. I hope other people will also continue to follow this story.
Another great installment in Ahren's story. Sad bits, happy bits and the quest continues... Start at the beginning of the series and dive into an epic fantasy world.
This book series is so addictive that its sad when you have to wait for the following book to come out lol. Love the characters and stories of each book and can't wait for more. This author is exciting to read and can't wait for any future books from him.
Keep them come the adventure, suspense the unity the closeness of the characters how they support and take care of each other and the companion animals Awesome Awesome Awesome series of books on to the next one
"You haven't failed, you just have a long way ahead of you"
This is the one i enjoyed the most so far! The forest of ire is a great setting, full of mysteries and dangers. I dont ever want to forget that touching scene in the middle of the river between Trogadon and Jelninolan.
Another fascinating read which twists the darkness and light into a compelling storyline. Torsten Weitze is a master storyteller and a wonderfully creative master of the genre.
I started this series on March 2nd and just finished this book on April 11th. I think that alone speaks to how amazing and all consuming the series is and has been.
The story continues to draw me in. I had to double check on the translator, it felt like it wasn’t the same one. I found the last 1/3 of the book to be very distracting with how it was translated.
