Imminent Threat

Rate this book
With a heightened threat of a terrorist attack on American soil, investigative journalist James Flynn travels to the hinterlands of Idaho to quell rumors about the Idaho National Laboratory becoming the new storage facility for Area 51 artifacts. But while he’s there, a terrorist attack occurs where the hunters become the hunted. As the former CIA operative is thrust into action to foil the terrorists’ plot with FBI agent Jennifer Banks, they stumble upon a conspiracy that stretches far deeper than they expected—one with its tentacles firmly entrenched in various branches of the U.S. government. If they fail, America fails. And failure is never an option for Flynn. From award-winning and bestselling author R.J. Patterson, Imminent Threat will keep you turning pages until the dramatic conclusion.

THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.

In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.

After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.

I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!

But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.

After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.

I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!

Imminent Threat. R.J. Patterson

A virus is unleashed in a small village in the middle east. A special forces unit is there and has witnessed the catastrophic result. Suddenly a U.S. drone strike takes them out. But there is a lone survivor. Sgt. Thatcher. And he wants revenge. There's a conspiracy in play and some very powerful people behind it. Ex CIA operative James Flynn is right in the middle of the fray. This is an explosive thriller. Non stop intrigue and action. I highly recommend!

Started this series 2 days ago and just finished this book 2 in a day - exciting non-stop action kept me riveted. Flynn happens to be at a secret facility in Idaho when terrorists strike and steal nuclear material - but that’s just the start. Working alongside an FBI agent, they discover a bigger plot embedded deep in the government. The quick-paced plot takes you across the country to DC and abroad to Afghanistan. Book 3 here I come!

Conspiracy central

This book again taps into the recurring trope of a conspiracy. The flavor of the conspiracy here involves 'Washington insiders' rather than another government or a terrorist organization, but the plot is equally unrealistic, particularly in its purported operationalization.

couldn't put it down

The action just kept coming and keeping me on the edge of my seat.
I love the way there were so many threads that needed to be solved and how it could have easily been a disaster for the US. Intrigue, suspense, and a little romance thrown in.

Exiting and Relaxing

Great book to be transported to a world of espionage and politics. Relaxing and exciting. The text needs better proof reading.
