A young boy's body is washed from the river and forensic examination reveals he has been murdered. The accidental discovery that a convicted paedophile lives in the nearby village leads to police interest in his activities, and when five decaying bodies are found in his garden, he is arrested. Helena Flemming is called in as his solicitor, but busy on another case, she asks John Eisenmenger to travel to the crime scene. And there he discovers the abuse is far more grotesque than previously thought - beneath its idyllic surface, there is a far darker side to the village.

This is a new series to me, and a new author. What an excellent discovery!

Although this is number 5 in the Eisenmenger-Flemming forensic series, I had no problem with continuity either of the characters or the story line. All flowed seamlessly. This page turner has left me wanting to read more from this author, and particularly the earlier books in the series.

McCarthy has created a delightful cast of characters, including the very helpful cleaning lady turned sleuth, Mrs Christmas.

But don't think for a minute that this is a cosy. It is anything but. In rural England, a young male body is washed up from a river. Forensic examination reveals he has been abused and murdered. And that is only the beginning.

Kirkus Reviews are quoted as saying that the story contains 'the most unsparing postmortem ever. ' I would have to agree.

Thank you to Endeavour Press via Netgalley for providing a digital copy of The Rest is Silence by Keith McCarthy for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Dr. John Eisenmenger, Forensic Examiner, and Helena Flemming, Defense Attorney, are working together again.

A body of a young man is found, having washed ashore from a river. The autopsy showed he had actually died of drowning after being abused and tortured.

Since the body was found in close proximity to a convicted pedophile, the police immediately take him into custody. Helena is assigned to his case. She's already got a heavy load, so asks John Eisenmenger to do a little investigating.

When five more bodies turn out in the bottom of a well, John realizes there is more going on than he can handle. When he starts questioning the people who live in the area, he discovers a small village full of dark secrets.

And as he uncovers these secrets, one by one, he faces a danger that might only result in death.
This is the 5th book in this particular series and each one is better than the last. The recurring characters keep expanding, the forensics are exact. The author, himself a pathologist, brings a level of realism not often seen in fiction.

My thanks to the author / Endeavour Press / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

The body of a young man is found washed ashore and it is discovered he has been abused and tortured before he was drowned. This body is discovered not far from where a convicted pedophile lives and he becomes the prime suspect. Defense Attorney Helena Flemming is assigned the case and she asks Dr John Eisenmenger for help. As he uncovers more and more details about this case more bodies are discovered and all may not be as it seems. Great read. I would like to thank the Publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

After heavy rains a body is found washed up from the river in a field. The young man is obviously the victim of some sexual assault. The police quickly focus on a convicted pedophile living in the nearby town as all evidence seems to point in his direction. But his lawyer and her partner - Helena Flemming and forensic examiner John Eisenmenger - are convinced he's not guilty in this case.

Once again I started right in the middle of a series. No problem. The book is very much focused on what is going on right at the moment. The investigation progresses from two approaches, the pieces of the puzzle being put together very differently by the two teams. At the beginning I had a bit of a difficult time keeping everybody straight, but as the story progressed things became clearer.

The way things unfold feels very authentic and the characters come alive nicely. There's a nice little dose of subtle humour in the writing I liked very much. Looking forward to reading more of these books.

I read a free copy in exchange for a honest review.

Huge thanks to Keith McCarthy, Endeavour Press and NetGalley for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

The naked dead body of a teenage boy is found in a river and then more bodies are found, incriminating a man who swears he is innocent, evidence of his guilt continues to be stack up against him. Is he guilty or innocent?

Was a slow starter for me but I like how the cases in this were intertwined and how it all played out. Not a fan of a couple of the characters and managed to work out the twists and killer early on, that didn't detract from the story though and I did enjoy it.

It was pretty easy to guess the bad guy in this one, but I love Mc Carthy's wry sense of humor and his ability to make the most incredible analogies I've ever read. His command of the English language makes him a delight to read.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Endeavour Press for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest and open review.
I had no idea this was book 5 in the Eisenmenger-Fleming Forensic Mysteries. I was delighted when I discovered this as I now have more books to read and enjoy.
Although it got off to a relatively slow start it soon picked up the pace.
I thought that Mr. McCarthy had some connections to the medical profession as his attention to detail was superb.
I had no idea who the killer was and had a real OMG! moment when I found out.
I look forward to reading many more of Keith McCarthy's books.

Simply excellent... Really enjoyed this book and it kept me glued to my seat. It's a dark twisty turnny book involving realistic characters who come alive thanks to SB's narration. One of the characters (no spoilers) reminds me of an old neighbour of mine!

Anyway bought as a BOGOF and well worth my time and dosh!

I nearly gave up with this book as it seemed very slow to get going and as I had not read the earlier books I did not know the relationships and history of the characters that had already been introduced in those books. However I persisted and enjoyed the book as the story developed.
