When your greatest enemy is your best chance of survival.
Still bearing wounds from barely surviving the Registration, Lynell struggles to fill her new role as the heir and leader of the very system that aimed to kill her. She must convince the Registration committee and the country’s oligarchs that she can fill her uncle’s shoes, while simultaneously proving to the country’s largest rebel group that she is nothing like her uncle—ruthless and greedy. When Sawyer, the leader of the Resurrection, reaches out with proof that they are both on the hitlist of powerful people who wish to destroy the rebels and take over the Registration, the two women form an uneasy alliance.
With mere days until the committee announces a policy change that will increase the Registration’s lethal power, Lynell and Sawyer must find out who wants them dead—and all signs point to someone close.

This book was one of the most difficult books I’ve ever written, and I’m beyond happy with how it turned out. It went through so many edits and rewrites, and I had to dig myself out of holes that I unknowingly created in the first book (which I wrote without plans for a second), and I couldn’t rely on a simple “survive” narrative - not when there’s so much more at play now.
Though I’m even more terrified about the reception this one will get than the first, I’m also confident that it’s a better book. I’m a better writer, after all.
I loved being able to explore the wider world of the registration in this book rather than Lynells story alone.
I’m most excited for everyone to meet Sawyer, our second FMC and Lynells biggest enemy- at least on paper.
Sawyer comes from her own powerful family with secrets under every rug and has taken her resources to create and lead the biggest anti-registration rebellion in the country. Six years ago, her transgender wife was Registered and killed as a hate crime and Sawyer has spent that time trying to heal herself while attempting to help heal the entire country. That is, until everything she’s created is at risk when her life is threatened and she’s forced into Lynells dangerous path.
So though this book wasn’t planned and wasn’t easy, it was definitely worth it. We meet so many more characters and dig into the political, legal, & societal aspects of a system like the Registration that I just didn’t have space for in book 1.
The world is bigger, the characters are smarter, and the stakes are so much higher.
This book picks up right where The Registration left off, and I hope there's a third book to pick up where this one left off! This story is thought provoking because it's impossible to read this book/series without considering the status of our country and politics. I enjoyed that this book was more thriller and a bit of mystery (trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together) than action/torture in the first book. I also loved the strong women in charge for this book; too many books (especially dystopian) have problematic men in charge and it's a nice change to see complex women in leadership roles. I definitely recommend reading this book!
I received an ARC from the author at Readers Take Denver.
I'm going to be honest, I had no idea where this sequel would take me. We left the first with such a bang, all my nerves were shot to heck, and so it was with wild anxiety and excitement that I opened the sequel.
Did not disappoint! The new characters are fantastic additions to this world, the old characters are given depth. The way Lawson weaves in all the different elements of what a law like this would mean for a country was fab and I loved how much more vivid she was able to make this world feel now that we are following a character who is attempting to take the reins.
The relationships are my favorite part of this book. Lawson really plays with the concepts of who to trust, why we trust, and how to trust when the world has been cruel and given you zero reasons to do so.
With this novel, you really hit the ground running and don't stop till your lung are heaving and your mouth tastes like blood. Loved it. (And Daniel is such a catch)
Lynell has inherited the Registration. Struggling with the dilemma of filling her Uncle's place and still bearing the wounds from the events of the past, she must prove herself to the Registration's benefactors while also forming an alliance with the leader of a rebel group, Sawyer. Together they will need to take on their enemies as the Registration seeks to increase its hold on the populace. This is a heartstopping and enthralling sequel to The Registration, with more unexpected twists and turns, fast paced action and political intrigue. The dystopian world and moral conundrums are deliciously interwoven with Lynell's concerns for her daughter and future. I highly recommend this book for fans of The Hunger Games or Divergent.
I received a complimentary audiobook copy of THE REGISTRATION REWRITTEN by Madison Lawson – thank you to CamCat Books!
THE REGISTRATION WRITTEN is the sequel to THE REGISTRATION. The is a dystopian thriller series set in a world where each registered person can legally register to end one life. In book one, Lynell made the decision to register someone and is waiting in line to complete the task when she hears her name mentioned. She spent two weeks on the run, working to survive and to find out why a complete stranger has registered to kill her.
This book picks up shortly where the previous book ends. We are following multiple characters from different aspects of the story, including Lynell. Another main POV is Sawyer who is someone who has worked for The Resurrection, a resistance group aiming to end the registration.
I had a good time with this sequel! This book dives more heavily into the politics around the registration and the ways those in power might manipulate things to their advantage and I really enjoyed those discussions. I really liked that our main characters were able to come together toward some common goals even as they were somewhat on opposing sides of the issues at hand. I thought that the author did a good job of throwing suspicion on multiple characters as there were threats being made and I was left wondering how the ending would play out.
I am not sure if this book was setting up for a third installment or not. The end sort of tells us how things are going to go moving forward, but I feel like there were some things that felt unfinished. The characters know what they want to do, but is it something that would go smoothly? That I am not sure about!
Overall I had a good time with this book and have enjoyed the ideas behind this series! THE REGISTRATION REWRITTEN is out now!
I was so happy to see book two of The Registration coming out! I enjoyed book one so much, I started looking into more dystopian novels just because. The story continues for Lynell. She's basically thrown into the lion's den and has to fend for herself. She doesn't know who she can trust or who she can depend on; but she learns quickly who's friend or faux. I loved the multiple POVs, getting to know Daniel's past a bit more and Sawyer side was a great addition to the narrative. I laughed and teared up, I got angry and downright hated some of the characters; which all in all, it made the story great! Madison left me wanting more after the last pages, I felt like I didn't get the closure I was expecting and there are questions that have not been answered....YET! I'm probably going to be thinking about the story and flip it on all its angles in my head until book three comes out hahaha It gets full stars from me because it is a story that definitely captivated me and left me wondering and wanting to know more about the intricacies of The Registration reign
Huge thanks to the author and BookSirens for the opportunity to review the book for an honest opinion
I received an ARC. This novel will blow you away! The dystopian plot is brilliant. I read it in two days, couldn't put it down, and the ideology stayed with me for days. It's one of of those books you'll want to read again. Lynell, we need you to straighten out our world too! We need a brave woman, a diplomat who cares about the people she represents, who conquers the obstacles, and creates change. In a sentence, the registration has become a corrupt enterprise, and Lynell is determined to return her world to balance and reason. The politics, not unlike our world today, are daunting. As I read on, I found myself testing the loyalty and motivations of the characters Lynell encounters. Some I didn't trust until the end of the book. I felt myself beside Lynell, at times shouting, "No! Don't do that. Don't trust that person!" Such is the engagement of the reader. This is a groundbreaking dystopian novel. If I were still an English teacher, I could spend a month teaching The Registration Rewritten. So many layers, so much wisdom, so much truth.
Wooooooow. This author delivers on the promise she showed in her incredible first novel, THE REGISTRATION.
I was hooked from the first page of this sequel and felt like I was truly inside the novel with Lynell. Lawson has an incredible ability to write both spectacular action sequences and heartbreaking scenes with gorgeous prose. I found myself repeatedly highlighting beautiful sentences.
If you can only buy one book this year, this is it. This is well worth the money spent. You’ll be entertained, tearful, and cheering Lynell on.
It picks up right where the registration leaves off. It feels like just the first chapter of Lynells leadership as she navigates tough and mysterious political relationships. The book leaves off with opportunity for more insight in how Lynell will use her new position to better her world and overcome horrors of leaders before her.
I'm thankful to Goodreads, the author, and publisher for the free print copy of this book:-) it's not a genre I read a lot of (scifi/fantasy). I also didn't know going in that it was a sequel. It read fine as a stand alone, though I never quite figured our exactly how the registration worked. Good story. Solid 4 stars
I loved this follow up book to The Registration. Lyell is trying to recover from her wounds and getting ready to be initiated into the registration. With hopes of rewriting things, she alines with Sawyer, the leader of the Resurrection. There are people on both sides that want both women dead. As they try to figure out who and why, secrets come out. Can they make this work?
The first 30% was incredible! It kept me going!! However the main arch of the story just didn’t grab me. I wanted to know how it would all play out but she gave too many details to the reader that there wasn’t any mystery to it. I do hope that the story continues because I would like to see what happens next.
In the follow up to “The Registration,” Lawson thrusts us directly into Lynell’s heart pounding story as she reclaims her rightful place as an Elysian heir. With a heroine you can’t help but root for and danger around every corner, this sequel will surely satisfy fans of the series.
In this second book in the Registration series, the incredibly inventive Madison Lawson mesmerizes us with her dystopian take on a world very much like the one we live in today. With one chilling exception: Eligible U.S. citizens can legally "register" to take one human life. What a premise, right? The talented Ms. Lawson executes it to perfection!
From the start of this series novel (which is just as compelling as a standalone) I was intrigued. The pacing is swift and the characters realistic. Top that off with plenty of action (the final confrontation gobsmacked me) and a complex mystery for a rocket-fueled joyride of the highest order!
Thrills, chills, and plenty of spills make this a must read. A great book to heat up a cold winter's night. I certainly hope the author is hard at work on #3 in this series!
Exceptionally written with unexpected plot twists keeping the reader wondering what’s coming next. Fantastic speculative fiction that’s thought-provoking and as hard to put down as its predecessor. Overall, an excellent read!
