Two worlds, a magical emblem, and a hunger to dominate the six species.
Marvin works three jobs, toiling to achieve his dream of flipping property. A strange man stalks him at his morning diner job, becoming a regular. When he follows him home from his night shift, Marvin knows something isn't right. The next day, he is offered a magical device. The emblem confirms that the paranormal is real, that people can partially shift into animals, and that Marvin isn't normal.
As his life enters a whirlwind adventure, Marvin has to adapt to becoming something more than he ever an Apex Shifter. Thankfully, he is not alone, and there's a team of beauties eager to coalesce around him.
Violence, action, and nontraditional relationships.
I like the premise, and even some of the scenes. That's about all that I liked. I don't know how to say this without going into a lot more detail but the book was just poorly written. The transitions from scene to scene were awful, a lot of things just didn't make sense. At least half were good or something like that. There was just so much that was bad I could not continue. Forget even about the beta cuck weak mommy's boy mindset of the MC. Who basically just gets bossed around by "his" women and does nothing but try to please them. He's supposed to be the Apex Alpha but clearly the author knows nothing about how an alpha would act. Even one raised in our gynocentric Society.
And don't get me wrong I'm not asking for perfection, but this book has so many glaring flaws I don't even know where to start. The MC does not act like an alpha, the transition from scene to scene was horrible, and how and why a lot of things happened just didn't make any sense. Honestly the only reason I managed to get as far as I did was because I was invested, but at a certain point I had to cut my losses.
Would recommend to newbie readers, or experienced readers that can power through absolute dogshit for a fresh story.
Good star to the series, the pacing is good, not to rushed but neither to slow. The plot is not overcomplicated so is easy to follow. The character migth need an improvement but since this is only book one such a thing is expected. So far the author has avoided making the same mistake that manny do with this 'harem' genre. Hope it translate to book 2.
Good tale. Basically the MC He's given a token the transports into another world but Unknowingly he was turned into a shifter but a new type. This is a world of shift as they know about earth and they go back and forth occasionally but nobody knows the how or why of the portal tokens. As you gonna imagine things on the shift are world are about to get very interesting as well as I have soon earth is about to get a comeuppance as well.. The hey I'm aspect is fun and not over the top. Most of the characters are pretty good And of course decent fighting.Ugly I read these more for the story and I was intrigued especially near end of the book when more revelations are laid out. Kind of such the stage and explains a lot of things and makes the second book seem more inviting And exciting. Can't wait
As far as I can tell, a pretty typical book for the author. There is his particular style of constant info-dumps which figures prominently, and I was reminded of why I've been avoiding this guy's books of late. If you like his stuff you may enjoy this more than I did.
There a a number of, not exactly twists, but parts where you think the story is going to go one way and goes in a completely other direction. They are all done well and were more enjoyable than jarring. I had to laugh when the MC and main girl identified their powers. It is the trope in shifter books of this nature.
I was actually looking for something to not like, and aside from a single incorrectly defined, I think, use of the word cobbler, there was nothing.
I truly enjoyed this book. Writing - Good. Story - Good. Spicy scenes - better than average. Characters - actually have depth and grow. The MC is kinda op, but not really.
A human working 3 jobs to pay off his college debt is stalked by alien wolfkin on Earth .
Marvin a human male works 3 jobs to pay off his college debt an little time for anything else . With both of his parents passed away he has no one to rely on but himself . While working at one of his jobs one of the female co-workers gets interested in him so they text an message back for awhile until they plan to actual meet for the first time . Before that happened a alien wolfkin stalked Marvin that actual day asking for his help to exchange gems for cash at a local exchange for his help he'll give him a cut a fee for doing it for him an giving him an emblem to his home planet that he can portal too . It changes his life forever .recommend reading excellent book .
It has good points and less than great points. Has GREAT potential as a series though.
I should be angry at the exposition at the end but it fits so well! Why it wasn't shared, what's been going on. It does shift my perspective on the story a bit.
On a non amazon rating scale I would give the story a pretty solid 4* stars I guess. There was a lot I liked and a lot I didn't like. What really brings it around for me is the further potential of the story. If it can come together right this could really be a fun story diving deeper than one might think into it's universe.
With all that said, it's actually not in one of the lists of series I anxiously follow... yet.
Sloppy writing dragging together a collection of events that anyone would be hard pressed to call a story.
This is just a mess. There are so many different aspects that do not find together at all. At no time do you feel an overall narrative coming together. You are brow beaten with details to force you to accept what is happening. This is a concept with no structural base. This reads like a story written without ever attempting to organize it with an outline.
A total rollercoaster that you shouldn't take too seriously. The pacing is completely off, sometimes too slow but most of the time way too fast. The story completely changed often. The author didn't take his time writing as he often forgets to connect two sentences or properly explain what the hell just happened. But it was still good, the characters and the situations were fun. I just won't be continuing the series.
Okay you out did yourself Marcus Sloss!!!! A little rough in the beginning and some minor editing but Holy Cow!!! This is going to be an incredible series!!! All the things I expect,, great adult fantasy activities, awesome adventure and a great story to enjoy!!! More more more!!!!!
This story is an interesting mix of fantasy elements, magic, science fiction and urban legend. It has politics, it has Town governing and building. The world building is interesting and just getting started it also has romance violence as well as thought-provoking ideas about alien life. And also has spicy scenes that are not fade to Black.
This book was a lot of fun. I was honestly expecting a standard harem lot book, but it surprised me. The harem is there, but so is a lot of action and a good deal of humor.
This is half urban fantasy and half Isekei thrown in a blender. It sounds odd, but it really works. A great story, an MC who isn't an idiot or super-alpha that can't solve anything outside fighting. Lot of good potential here and looking forward to more.
This was with out a doubt the best book this author has written. It has an awesome MC , great supporting characters and the story left my heart pounding. I don’t usually stay up half the night finishing a book I cannot put down.
Apex Shifter , Has a great story but needs better editing. There are just too many mistakes in sentence structure and formation, which are distracting. Still a very good story that enjoyed a lot and I'm looking forward to the one in the series.
Great story. Well crafted. Wonderful progression. Fun characters. Lots of familiar paranormal critters. Really enjoyed this read. Looking forward to its continuation.
Good story just too much jumping around without forethought
I like the characters but the story just seems to stop and start and jump around without any expectation/explanation that a change is coming. Although I am a huge fan of this author, I am not a large fan of this story.
What a great start to a new series by Marcus Sloss. The MC and supporting cast are just fantastic. I am really looking forward to where this story takes us.
