Rate this book
Newly dumped Carson Davies decides the vacation he’d planned to take his girlfriend on—in hopes of fixing their troubled relationship—is the perfect getaway he needs to clear his head. A few days of solitude, hiking along picturesque Bear Mountain is just what he thinks he needs to move on. But as soon as he arrives, he’s shocked by the sensual reaction he has to the two owners. The two male owners. Carson has never been attracted to a man, and he fights the sensation tooth and nail.

Royce and Jared know their mate as soon as he walks in the door of the main lodge. They’re ready to claim what’s theirs, but know they need to be careful. The man sees himself as straight, but that’s the least of their problems. They’ll need to show him their true nature, their inner bear, and hope it doesn’t send the man packing.

The shifters have just three days before the human is scheduled to go home. In a short span, they’ve got to show Carson how bound they all are and hope they can seduce the man into surrendering.

Mpreg and bear shifters. Couldn’t go wrong I thought!
Well, I thought wrong.

This was horrible.
I can do a MMM book if all parties are loving and there is no jealousy.

But these 2 bear shifters are not involved with each other and never will be. They are only involved with their human mate. And therefore there was a lot of jealousy.

And don’t even get me started on the ridiculousness of being a straight man, turning gay in a couple of hours and being a perfect sub and getting off on pain the next day, even though he has never tried BDSM.

Too much of everything in this little story.

Most people are not going to like this. It was the most unbelievable "love story" I've read all year. So unbelievable, in fact, that that love doesn't even make an appearance. I like the fated mates trope, and I have no problem with the insta-love that comes along with the territory, but this story didn't even have that; just lust and a desire to possess.

What makes it truly unbelievable is that, in less than three days, Carson, the human fated to be with the two bear shifters, goes from being this super straight vanilla dude who's never been attracted to men and isn't even comfortable with ass play... to being this perfect sub, who likes being tied up, spanked and spit roasted by two muscular men with cocks so big he can barely fit them in his mouth.

My incredulousness was so high that it actually fueled my desire to keep reading, just to see what happened next, and for some strange reason, I ended up not hating it. 😆 It was less than 100 pages, needed a good editor, had mpreg thrown in there as an absolute afterthought but I'm still willing to read the next story. There are 22 of these stories and judging by their ratings they definitely do get better so... call me curious (or a masochist, we'll see). 🤷‍♀️ 2.5 stars

This was ...something.

• So much dubcon - the bears never ever take no for an answer, and never give Carson the space he repeatedly asks for (except the five seconds he goes home and then they immediately go to drag him back)

• sudden attack of a BDSM room where Carson becomes perfect sub and loves being flogged or whatever without ever having experienced that or thought about it before

• also instant gay, from being totally straight in like 12 hours

• they never warned him about the mpreg potential

• the evil ex girlfriend was a choice, and unnecessary

• mud as lube

honestly....???

Recommend you skip this first book. Really bad GFY. Did not buy the human suddenly turning gay and wanting assplay when he didn't want it with his girlfriend. Didn't buy the human suddenly enjoying a BDSM flogging plus spit roast scene. All of this happened within 12 hrs. The two bears had a horrible relationship with the alpha being a real ass. The menage was different - BHB - there was no sexual interaction between the 2 bears.

In this shifter series, "brother bears" are attracted to each other at a young age. They don't always have a sexual relationship. They are sexually attracted to the third or "mate" in their menage. As far as mpreg, one brother bear provides the sperm, the second provides the egg and they double penetrate their mate who acts as the incubator. Babies are shifters, usually male, and are delivered by cesarean.

Spoiler Ahead This was a really good short quick read that I enjoyed. Carson Davies planned to take his girlfriend Deidra on a weekend getaway to Bear Mountain when she dumps him he knows that their relationship has been over for awhile. Royce and Jared are bear shifter who own the resort. When Carson walks into the resort and both are hit with instant lust they both know that Carson is their mate and they are ready to claim him. The problem is Carson is straight and has never been attracted to another guy, but every time he is around Jared and Royce he is hit with lust so strong he can't think straight. While in bear form the bears fight and Jared hurts Royce and Carson witness this and goes to help and learns that the guys are shifters and that he is their mate. This was a really good book Carson is confused about his feelings from learning that shifter's are real to being attracted to men Carson as always felt that there was something missing from his life and now he knows what. After returning home he realized that he should have stayed with his bears now he has to deal with Deidra who is trying to use him because the guy she left him for doesn't want her and she is homeless. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling this was my first time reading this author and this is the first book in a new series for me. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Well, the story itself is bad enough. This is not menage, this is two "Dom" bears sharing a mate. And their mate happens to be a totally vanilla straight guy who, within the course of a day or two, is giving his ass up to two men who can shift into bears, and getting off on being flogged like a perfect little sub.

No. Just no.

As if that wasn't bad enough...

"The fine hairs at the base of his head rose, alerting him to the eminent danger."

Warning: Eminent danger is imminent.

"...as he fanaticized between the two sexy men..."

"...the first time anything had ever broached that hole."

"He settled both on the desk beside Carson and leaned on the edge, awaiting Carson to eat."

And on and on.

Definitely Removed from Kindle

Bitty but shows a fair bit of promise

I know fated mates gives an excuse to have an instalove attraction but this one was a bit ridiculously fast even for that.

I'm a fan of shifter romance but hadn't read any bears so thought this would be a good place to start.

I'm keeping optimistic but I hope we get a bit more depth going forward.

Even if I were to ignore the use of clay as "a perfect lubricant", this book was awful. You have two very creepy bears that don't take no for an answer, a straight guy that in about 24 hours goes from anal virgin to taking two monster cocks at once, an evil ex, and surprise mpreg.

Wow. I don't even know where to start. I rolled my eyes a lot. I think if you think of this as erotica it works better than it did as a romance. I usually give a little latitude with the fated mates trope, but this just piled on so many things for this supposedly straight dude to accept as ok to get his HEA. Sex with dudes is awesome, and clay for lube? Sure! (Ewww). Then he learns that shifters exist and he's the mate to not one guy but two. If that wasn't enough, he also discovers his submissive side and jumps into the BDSM world feet first. Oh and there's mpreg too, because there wasn't enough stuff thrown in already. It boggles my mind that there are 19 other books in this series. One was plenty for me! 😳

DNF- I mistakenly thought that with two Top Bears and one human bottom there would be at least a bit of sizzling kink. I thought wrong. It was more like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, sugar sweet and covered in treacle....but hey, if that's what you're into....

Hot Story but Needed to be Longer.

Hot guys. Lots of sex and a touch of BDSM. Needed more story as there little holes that bothered me. The two bears each had their own place but why? We're they not a coup looking for their third? Clay for lube. Not a turn on. I wanted more of the pack dynamics.

The bears owed Carson a warning about one part of the mating process. I also wanted to see love between the two bears. I want my multiple partners to interact with lust and love with all partners.

This was a well written story with no errors to grab my attention away from the story. The idea of the bears and their land intrigued me. I will read the next one in the series hoping it has more story.

Content Warnings for book: Brief fatphobia, brief misogyny, violence, pregnancy

Kink: D/s, painplay, group sex

This needs better editing (names switched around), but not taken too seriously it's not bad at all. There's surprise MPREG (seriously, why isn't it in the blurb?), so be forewarned.

Mud being used as lube... numbing gel being used as lube... lots of questionable choices. GFY. Weird choices with the ex-girlfriend. Yet, an enjoyable romp if you wanna waste an hour reading MMM smut.

Bound To Two Bears

I really don’t go much for the whole shifter thing, however on occasion I see one that catches my eye, and this one did. OK, I’ll admit the smoking hot cover didn’t hurt. It also didn’t hurt the fact that I’m a bear. No, not a shifter, people! I’m what’s considered a Bear in the gay population and my so’s my hubs, so yeah. I expected the standard shifter story and, well, what I got was a smoking hot read. Heck, I’m surprised my Kindle didn’t melt, so be forewarned.

THE CHARACTERS

Carson:

After grabbing his duffel, he headed for the front door, knowing the minute he walked outside, it would be like closing the door on this chapter of his life. As the knob clicked behind him, he paused, closing his eyes. It was done. He was alone again, with nothing but himself. The gnawing ache he’d felt for months grew in his chest, and he suddenly knew what it was. Loneliness.

The human’s handsome face. His blue eyes were the color of the blue sky on a summer’s day on the mountain. His hair was blond with glints the same shade as the golden bits shimmering in the mountain’s creek bed under that summer sun. The color was matched by the stubble growing on his face, not yet a beard. By the glow of his skin, he’d spent many a day outdoors, enjoying nature. His body was fit, too, muscled in all the right places.

Royce:

Royce had to be at least six and a half feet of pure muscle. Calling Royce a bear of a man was an understatement. He had thick, curling dark hair and a thick beard to match—and both only made him appear all the more menacing. Menacing might not be the right word for it. There was something bubbling under the surface that told Carson to be careful, although he felt no threat at the same time. Carson felt… drawn… to the man, …

Jared:

They were best friends. Had grown up together. They weren’t usually at odds with one another, even considering how different they were, but here lately, it was all he could do not to let his bear out to growl. “You don’t have to boss me around. We’re equal partners in this business, as I recall.”

THE STORY

The story was well crafted and carried out consistently throughout the book. I liked the whole plot of Carson booking a weekend at Bear Mountain to rekindle his relationship with Deidre, his girlfriend, only to have her bail out at the last minute. His ensuing decision to go to Bear Mountain to be with himself was the best decision he ever made.

Alone inside, he faced the mirrored doors and saw the sadness in his own blue eyes staring back. Carson was unusual, and he knew it. He didn’t make a good bachelor. He liked having someone to come home to. Someone in the bed beside him at night. He liked feeling a sense of belonging. That was likely the reason he’d remained with Deidre too long, even when that sense of belonging faded.

THE WRITING

The writing is one of the things that got to me with this book. It’s good quality writing. No hiccups, no jumping, good editing consistently throughout. The story flows smoothly and the sex scenes are scorchingly off the scale HOT! Yeah, let me repeat that, they’re off the scale intense. Somebody knows their stuff with this whole scene. The writing flows through Carson/Jared/Royce’s story in a smooth flowing arc that works very well.

Oh yeah, no spoilers, and you seriously do not expect this ending. Hehehehe!

I am seriously looking forward to Bear Mountain 2. Bring it on!

2.5 stars. There are so many books in this series and I want to like it for that reason but there was way too much happening, way too quickly, in this book. It’s silly to say it wasn’t realistic considering the subject matter but even in that realm, it just was too far.

It was ok

The book was ok, but I think everything just fell into place a little too easily. Also, I didn't like that Royce and Jared fought over Carson and tried to outdo eachother for his attention. They call themselves a triad but Royce and Jared don't love eachother like they do Carson. It's more like Carson has two mates and Royce and Jared have one, I don't think that classes them as a triad. Also, although Royce and Jared call the other their best friend they don't seem to actually like eachother, they literally fight over Carson and are mean to eachother. They don't seem like friends, more like two men who no they're going to have the same mate so they're just putting up with the other because of that.
It wasn't a terrible book, it just wasn't what I expected.

I listened to the audio.

the cover and story implies youthful or non-senior characters. so with that picture in mind and the narrator's voice, i couldn't get into the story . those two things warred with each other so much that it distracted from the story. sorry

Heard a lot of good things about this series, but this first book disappointed. The two bears do nothing but fight. Carson, the human, is a straight vanilla guy one day and once he meets the bears, is suddenly gay and into flogging and pain. Big fat nope. It lacked any emotional connection.

So bad. SO BAD. And unfortunately not of a "so bad it's good" variety.

EDIT: the series gets considerably better as the bear lore builds up, but you gotta survive this one first.

Urg...I'm not sure what happened here. I think maybe the story needed less sex and more padding to make the mating between these three even remotely plausible.

This is My 5,000th Review on LibraryThing

Newly dumped Carson Davies decides the vacation he’d planned to take his girlfriend on in hopes of fixing their troubled relationship is the perfect getaway he needs to clear his own head. A few days of solitude, hiking along picturesque Bear Mountain is just what he believes that he needs in order to move on. As soon as he arrives, he’s shocked by the sensual reaction he has to the two lodge owners. The twomale lodge owners. Carson has never been attracted to a man, and he fights it tooth and nail. Royce and Jared know he's their mate as soon as he walks in the door. They’re ready to claim what’s theirs but know they need to be very careful. The man believes he's straight, but that’s the least of their problems. They’ll need to show him exactly what the are...their "inner bears" and hope it doesn’t send the man running for the hills.

This was a really short quick read that I have to say was entertaining. Carson Davies planned to take his girlfriend Deidra on a weekend getaway to Bear Mountain when she dumps him...he knew that their relationship has been over for a while. Royce and Jared are bear-shifters who own the resort. When Carson walks into the resort and both are hit with instant lust, and they both know that Carson is their mate...and they are ready to claim him. There is just one teeny problem...their fated mate, Carson, is straight: straight as an arrow....and he's never been attracted to a guy before, but every time he is around Jared and Royce, he's hit with lust so strong he can't hardly think straight. While in bear form the bears fight and Jared hurts Royce and Carson sees this and goes to help and that's when he truly sees that these guys are really shifters and that HE is truly, their mate.

It was a good book. From Carson being confused about his feelings and then learning that shifters are real, to being, for the first time, attracted to men...it explained to Carson a lot of things that he had always wondered about. He always felt that there was something missing from his life and now he knows what it was. After returning home he realizes that he should have stayed with what he has started to think of as "his bears". But now he has to deal with Deidra who is trying to get back on his 'good side" when she found out that the guy she left Carson for doesn't want her after all, and now she's homeless. I thought, take her back and feed her to your new furry friends.

The book was well written. I'm not a big fan of shifter stories...especially in M/M Romances. Don't same sex couples have enough problems without worrying about fleas, more fish, and where the nearest berry patch is? In spite of that I will probably try another in this series just to see how the three guys are doing.

3.5 stars; Hear me out

I know, I know. Three stars is a little mean but four stars feels a little high for whatever this was. This is my lukewarm reasoning.

This book (and probably entire series) isn't trying to be something it's not. It's not trying to be prolific life-changing literature and I appreciate that. This was just fun, little bit of plot sprinkled in so the story can get going, smut. And you know what, it worked. I liked how this didn't turn into a gay for you. It's even explicitly said that gender doesn't matter when it comes to mates. I like that our alphas were growly and protective and possessive but never ventured into full alphahole territory. There's some light world building to get you interested in the other books and there was mpreg! I'm a simple girl with simple wants.

The problem is nothing is really developed. Like, at all. Because it's so short and smut is the focal point, everything else moves at a lightning pace that you almost wonder why it was there in the first place. Had Deidre's character been completely removed and Carson just ends up at the cabin as a personal retreat, I think this would have worked a little better. The length wouldn't need to change and there wouldn't be extra things making me go "Okay but what about that?". I also think that when Carson got injured that should be more of a thing. Seeing Jared and Royce "nurse him back to health" would have helped developed everyone, especially the two of them. Because as it is, we don't really know Jared and Royce. They're just typical alpha males which isn't necessarily a good thing. A little TLC would have been nice.

It's fine and I'm not mad. Kelex still has my love. In fact I should probably let this go since it was written so early in her career but I digress. If you're looking for fun easy smut with a little bit of a shifter twist, you might enjoy this. If nothing else, it's a fun way to spend an afternoon. So, 3.5 stars because I would have liked a little more.
