A great selection of short tales. Each one takes a very different, dark fantasy but also makes it sapphic and spicy.
I enjoyed each story, but I think my favourites would be the one with a vampire/hunter and the one featuring a very different restaurant experience!
Huge thanks to the author for the arc ebook.

This was an interesting collection of very different, dark sapphic short stories. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A bunch of these short stories could be made into a larger story as they seemed to end at what I would consider just the beginning. Be sure to read the warnings and enjoy!

Spice Level: 4/5 Explicit Open-Door

CW: explicit sapphic content, potentially triggering themes, supernatural elements, and moments of violence interwoven with passion (per GoodReads).

Dark Sapphic Tales includes 5 short stories by the author M.G. Mercurial.

📖 Hunter, Hunted is a story about a vampire hunter who falls for her target.
📖 So Sweet is a story about a monster who stalks the nightlife in Club Sanguine for her next victim. But is her victim really a victim or someone trying to escape her past?
📖 A Matter of Taste is a story about a chef who literally pours her emotions into her work. She is offered the chance of a lifetime to work alongside a famous chef.
📖 Sinta is a story about an immortal being's quest to find her lost love through time.
📖 Neither Heaven Nor Hell is a story about a nun who summons a demon to help in her attempt to bring justice to those who wronged her. Nothing can ever go wrong summoning a demon, can it?
📖 Together in the Green is a story about a plant that forms the abilities of a human and personality of a recently deceased loved one. What would you do to spend forever with the one you love?

These short stories will give you a wide range of emotions when reading. The two that really stick out to me are “Sinta” and “Together in the Green.” These stories really touch on lost love and pull on your heartstrings. They have what I would call an unconventional HEA. Not exactly what you would expect but they left me with a sense of hope when the stories ended. The stories “Hunter, Hunted” and “Sinta” give the feelings and emotions that love knows no bounds.

In my opinion, these stories are beautifully written within dark themes. Even in beauty, there is darkness so please heed the content warnings. These are Dark Romance stories so if you are triggered by blood, knife play, consented unconsensual sex, death, etc., then this is not a good read for you. If none of the above bothers you, please check this out, it’s so good.

Dark Sapphic Tales
by M.G. Mercurial

This was a haunting, sensual, and imaginative collection of dark sapphic short stories that blend fantasy, horror, and romance in wonderfully twisted ways. Each tale stands on its own, offering something unique—whether it's vampires, demons, diwata, or creeping vines—and the sapphic relationships at the center are always intense, emotionally charged, and often morally gray (in the best way).

Standouts for me were "Hunter, Hunted" and "Neither Heaven Nor Hell"—both had such compelling tension and atmosphere. The concept of each story is really creative, and the prose is generally strong throughout, with just the right amount of eroticism to balance the dark and dangerous tone.

That said, I did find myself wishing some stories had a bit more depth or space to fully explore their themes. A few felt like they ended just as things were really getting good, and I would’ve loved to spend more time with the characters and worlds.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. Overall, Dark Sapphic Tales is a bold, well-written collection perfect for readers who enjoy queer stories with teeth, lust, and a touch of the uncanny.

Thank you to Book Sirens for the ARC of Dark Sapphic Tales.

This collection of dark sapphic tales is generally well-written although I would like to see the author delve a little more deeply into some of the stories. At times, the stories seemed to give more of a surface level examination of the characters or themes, and I was left wanting a bit more development of the storyline.

My favorite of the collection is Sinta, which I could totally see being developed (and would totally like to see developed) into a longer story perhaps a novella. There’s so much going on in that story in particular that it left me wanting to continue to read about these characters.

A great collection of short stories each offering a different take on the dark, mysterious and unnerving but with sapphic characters.

M.G. rightfully highlights all two often these elements don't always occur together so it's wonderful to see a collection like this. I enjoyed each story and lots of interesting concepts were included from a chef who can infuse their food with emotions to a sexy plant wife who may or may not have good intentions.

My favourites were So Sweet, Neither Heaven or Hell and Together In The Green but every story offered something enjoyable.

Honestly review in exchange for an ARC

I absolutely loved this. I'm someone that also flips back and forth between wanting pure fluff and darker romance like the author says that she does, and these six stories definitely scratch that itch for darker works. If I had to pick a favorite, it's the first one (my 90's goth kid demands I pick the hunter/vampire pairing), but I loved them all.

The premise of this really fascinated me and is honestly what first drew me to reading this. Overall i’m so happy it did cause i really enjoyed this and feel like its the perfect fist read of october.

each story really held its own and i’d thoroughly enjoy reading full length books of each, especially ‘sinta’ and ‘neither heaven nor hell’.

together in green may have taken the weirdness slightly too far tho.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

An excellent collection of short stories each with its own twist on dark fantasy. I really enjoyed each story, but I would love a full version of Neither Heaven Nor Hell. That story was absolutely phenomenal and I could totally read a full book based on that fantasy.

4 stars. Very interesting collection of dark sapphic stories. The writing was good and all of them had something different and unique but my favorite of the bunch was definitely the first story ‘Hunter, Hunted’ which was about a vampire and a vampire hunter having really hot and violent sex. Blood and knife play and it was *chefs kiss*. I could’ve read a full length novel about those two.

This is a fantastic collection of steamy sapphic tales with an otherworldly touch. We have vampires, elder goddesses, mystic chefs, love that transcends lifetimes, a Dutchess of Hell, and a very "interesting" plant.

The tales are short, sweet, extremely spicy, and left me wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection, and definitely recommend if you like your sapphic stories to have a darker side.

Entertaining and a quick read! All supernatural, all with some kind of spicy twisted complex storyline. It didn’t feel like I was reading the same story that was regurgitated over and over again, which is what I was worried about with this being a book of short stories.

The spice was also pretty damn spicy. Not a slow burn at all, just gets straight to the point 😂

I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. Each one was very different to the other, but they fitted well together in the collection.

There were some really unique stories. Some were uplifting, some haunting, and some downright creepy! Each one was dark and sexy to a different degree, so nothing felt overdone. The length of each of the stories made for a comfortable and complete read, with nothing feeling rushed or dragged out. They were well written and had a great flow.

The author has a wonderful imagination and I am looking forward to what else they will bring out in the future. All trigger warnings were presented at the start of the book, so make sure you take note.

I'd give this a 4/5 and that's only because of a couple of typos early on in the book that jolt you out of the story a little bit.

***Edit: feedback given to author re typo and now I’d say my review is a solid 4.5/5 ***
