A would-be magus with studying on her mind must deal with a possible suitor and her feisty hellkitten.
Imara made it through her first term without too many issues, but now that she is in the second term, a magic-draining fiend is stalking the students, and her familiar is bored with guiding her through the early stages of magic. He has taken to giving her misinformation to see if she can use her own judgments. It is a challenge she doesn’t really need.
XIA agents are taking courses at the college, and one of them ends up next to Imara during her ethics course. A few conversations lead to a lunch date, and now, she must determine if a social life is worth more than her scholastic one.
Mr. E just likes going on lunch dates. The servers swoon over his cute fuzziness. He is no help at all.
*relieved sigh* This was a lovely follow up to Soul Casting 101. And Viola was kind enough to head off a worrisome romantic pairing pretty quickly, so I'm real happy about that. I know this isn't to be a romance-heavy series, but I was a little concerned that Imara would develop romantic feelings for her familiar - worry not, my friends. There is a romantic interest, but it's gonna be a real slow burn. Which is fine and dandy with me. Again, this length of story really works for this author... I still wish it didn't have to end so soon, though! Really looking forward to the next installment. Here's hoping Imara will come across a conflict that really challenges her.
Such a fun follow-up to the first book! There is a bit of refresher, but it mostly is focused on Imara's second term. There are some ethically-challenged professors, class lessons, a campus mystery, and a new love interest. The love interest doesn't go much of anywhere, as Imara is focused on her studies and is still a bit young for the supernatural world. However, she is impressive so I was surprised that she seemed so willing to "commit" to one person on such little initial interaction. However, they do spend time together and she has met some other men and didn't have the same (or any) reaction. Maybe that is enough for her. I am very much looking forward to the next in the series.
Insta is starting her winter term. Her ethics professor engages in so less than ethical practices. The up side, she meets XIA agent Argus, a griffon shifter, who is taking the class to further her career. Her shape shifting professor, is a friend to one of her older brothers and has taken a personal interest in her. Mr E is not having it, an either is Argus, who has staked his claim. There is trouble on campus, someone is attacking women and stealing their magic. When Bara is targeted, Mr E, is going to find the being and make them pay. He will even Argus and his team help. A fast paced and fun story.
This series gets better with each addition. I love the main character and all of the other people in her life. I am also glad she has found a love interest and it is nice that they are progressing at their own pace with they relationship as one would expect for someone her age. Big plus, I just love her hell kitty!
I would recommended this book to everyone. My only complaint is its to short. Viola Grace is very talented writer and should seriously consider making the length of the books 125 to 150 pages. The length of the story discouraged me from purchasing the books in the beginning.
A fun short romp in the second semester of magic college. A handsome friend, a serial magic thief are added to the fun. As with all of Viola Grace's books this was a joy to read.
The story was more interesting than the previous one. The evolving character development and plot kept me engaged--a really fun story. Looking forward to the next edition.
This is a great sequel to the first book , and yet it's a great stand alone if you haven't read the first one . Though now I'm anxiously awaiting the next one and it will be several months yet lol
Even the 'difficulties' she, or anyone known (as opposed to a faceless 'them' or a name dropped), faces are solved in mere pages with a wave of the hand. Which is sad because the world is pretty awesome.
More magic and mystery in this one. Someone is stealing the magic from women!! Transforming into another species is one of her classes. Read to find out the magic stealer is found and what she transforms into!! On the the next one!!
I loved this story. Imara is a very focused character, she has her goals and she will achieve them. Her interactions with other characters was entertaining. The storyline was intriguing and enthralling. Can't wait to read more from this series.
Shape Shifting 201 is the second in a series of books about a young woman who begins at the Mages Collage with only the clothes on her back and a goal to get through her two year training as fast as she can so she can become a consultant for the dead. Well, not ghosts as such, just the impression of mages and their magic that are carefully cultivated until their families let them go. She is a Death Keeper, and the only Death Keeper in a hundred miles around that can turn the spectures into fully realised beings.
Ending up in a college hall with its own specture in residence is just the icing on the cake for the start of a fantastic and crazy college career.
This series is a great set of stories about Imara Mirrin as she encounters new friends, newly met family including her twin brother and her long awaited mother. A handsome XIA agent, a fantastic hall mate and lets not forget her familiar, a little black kitten named Mr E.
Ok, the “no contractions” anywhere thing still bothers me, but I could ignore it due to the great plot and the introduction of Argus. I love griffins-they are my favorite magical creature!! Imara’s luck holds out against a magical drainer in this one and it was really great! The lusty professor and the pervy one were weird though-yuck!
I had picked up the first Hellkitten book a while ago but didn't get round to reading it til this week. Now I'm a total can and had to grab this second book the moment I finished the first. More Imara and Mr E asap please!
Great! The kitten is back! All right it is short but the characters are well fleshed out, the storyline well written and you have a bit of mystery, romance, suspense thrown in. Mix with humour and you have a great little read.
Good enjoyable light read, Good worldscape. Only issue is shortness of story. These 5 books are more like chapters and should be priced accordingly. The whole 5 are really 1 book. That said I still wanted to read the next one.
