This book touched my soul. The author writes beautifully and brings the reader to live in each moment with him. It is so eloquently detailed with rich imagery that allows one to feel with all their senses. I was captivated by this boy's ability to triumph over the evils he endured. Though he writes that he is a coward, and tormented with the guilt of inaction and compliance, he is my true hero. He persevered when most would have crumbled. I recommend this not just to those who have ever suffered, but to anyone who has compassion for the human spirit.
