Jacob has guilt. He lived in the world of foster care and is tormented by childhood experiences that lay just beneath the surface. A man who has lived for decades in silence, ashamed and afraid to speak. The time has come to open the vault so that others may be spared a similar fate.
This book touched my soul. The author writes beautifully and brings the reader to live in each moment with him. It is so eloquently detailed with rich imagery that allows one to feel with all their senses. I was captivated by this boy's ability to triumph over the evils he endured. Though he writes that he is a coward, and tormented with the guilt of inaction and compliance, he is my true hero. He persevered when most would have crumbled. I recommend this not just to those who have ever suffered, but to anyone who has compassion for the human spirit.
