Delicious family drama. Humorous dialogue. Unexpected twists. Tear-jerker surprises.
Another winner for this author!! Such drama, intrigue, authenticity!! This book had me wanting more. I love how each chapter depict the characters individually. Wow! I read this pretty fast because I didn't want to put it down! I can see this as a movie! Very entertaining and sometimes sad.
Pharaoh’s Shadow transports us to ancient Egypt where we are caught up in the excitement of adventure, mystery, greed, power, betrayal, a murder plot, and lots of intrigue. The author, Ms. Tasha Madison, clearly did extensive research because the book shines with authenticity of time and place. Her descriptive passages engage all your senses, which pulls you in and keeps you hooked. Through much of the story, you are held in suspense, anxiously anticipating the outcomes of engrossing subplots with interesting characters, and you relish the payoffs. I particularly enjoyed how different chapters were told from the point of view of different characters, giving greater insight into that character and seeing their perspective versus the usual one point of view throughout the book. If you love good historical fiction or a captivating read, you will thoroughly enjoy Pharaoh’s Shadow. I highly recommend this book to all.
We've all had one encounter or another with Ancient Egypt. My first was when I was a boy, reading the books that popular horror writer R. L. Stine penned on the subject. These, for me, were televised convincingly as well. Then along came the "Mummy" films starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Dwayne Johnson, all of whom turned in sterling performances. And so the seeds of the pharaohs, mummies and hieroglyphics were sown in my heart and mind.
Now, many years later, it is refreshing to read Tasha Madison's take on the genre. And trust me, "take" doesn't begin to cover it. What we have here is an outstanding novel that is, indeed, based on ancient historical fact, yet fills in the inevitable blanks without cheapening the subject. Tasha's prose drew me in with credible characters and vivid scenery that do justice to both history and drama.
It is clear that the author knows the field well, a factor inspired by her own distant relation to Rameses III, the second Pharaoh of the 20th Dynasty. Tasha can be proud of having fulfilled a destiny of hers in this manner, and she certainly gives herself more-than-ample opportunity to unleash her knowledge on the reader. This is partly since the chapters adopt the viewpoints of the different characters, rather than reporting everything in the third person. Done effectively, this approach can flesh out the emotions of the story, leading to an outstanding and convincing work. Done poorly, it can sabotage the entire thing and, at worst, make the author look like they're showing off. Tasha, I'm happy to say, falls firmly into the "effective" category.
Without giving too much away – so as to honour the suspense that awaits! – I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a rich, immersive tale of adventure, passion and conspiracy. One that takes place in a time long forgotten, but never short of intrigue. More than three millennia later, you're only ever a second away from Ancient Egypt.
Madison paints an elaborate picture of ancient Egypt. Her knowledge of the ancient past, and her vibrant depth of words will lure you out of the shadows. A definite must read. Nancy Huber, author of Days of Fire
Another amazing story from this author. This captivating book might be one of my top books of the year. There is so much detailed drama and cleverly crafted plot material. I’m blown away by the ending too, so many great twists, also the research that had to have gone into creating this work due to all of the historical elements wrapped in the story. This book impressed me and although I read the digital version, I am definitely gonna get my own hardcover. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. If you love historical fiction, you should read it.
