"If ever I need my spirit lifted, I know to read what Detective Whiskers is investigating."
The world-famous (but anonymous) graffiti artist Barksy creates a new piece of art at the Parrot Eyes Inn but the excitement is dampened by the discovery of two dead bodies—one in the parking lot and one alone inside a locked hotel room. As if that’s not enough, Detective Whiskers is being stalked by a strange orange tabby cat who seems to know something about the deaths. Throw in a sexy Scotsman with an eye for Sheila and things in Paradise Cove have never been wilder.
Nobody knows why the charming small town of Paradise Cove was chosen by such a famous street artist. As puzzling as that is, the real suspense is about the murder victims and whether or not one of them might be the elusive celebrity. The amateur detective ladies of the Paradise Cove Murder Society and our crime solving cat have their hands full in this fast-paced page-turner.
If you’re looking for a light-hearted and humorous whodunit with quirky characters, animals, and an intriguing plot, National Cat Investigative Society is the book you need!
This book is a three to four hour read and contains no cursing, sexual content, or graphic violence.
A few days at a Florida beach resort town, two murders, a cat who can befriend and talk to other animals and assemble them into a crime solving team. Clever story, well written.
The characters under the leadership of Detective Whiskers and all his friends including the humans have made this incredible book happen !!! All the endearing characters are here with all their inimitable characteristics ! The best part going with the title.of NCIS are the names Leroy, Gibbs and Jethro!! They kept me smiling through until the end of the book!
Thanks.for the promise of yet another new book, Chris!!! I have a happy smile on my face!!!
The excitement of a new piece of Barksy graffiti art is tempered by the discovery of two dead bodies at the Parrot Eyes Inn in Paradise Cove. A mysterious ginger cat and an affluent Scotsman add to the mystery as Detective Whiskers attempts to uncover a murderer.
The books in this series are light reading and immensely fun, perfect for a sunny afternoon beach read or a winter treat by the fire.
I have to say, I thought the fact that the "sleuth" was a feline would really detract from the storyline when I first started this book. But it didn't. All of the elements of a mystery were revealed all in good time. It truly was a very good story. I'm not one to anthropomorphize, so it was a bit of a stretch to me, but as a pet owner, it made perfect sense. I would recommend this book as a fun read.
Okay, so having a story recounted by a cat is a wee bit strange - but what a fun book to read! As a fan of the (real!) NCIS, I loved the use of names such as Jethro and Ducky- and even the nod to a certain well-known, real life, mural painter.
There were some grammatical, linguistic issues (if Goodreads would reintroduce the practice of permitting me to see my comments, and highlights, I would be grateful!) but not enough to detract from a neat story with lots to enjoy.
This was a rather short read but it was just what I needed - sometime silly and fun and cute and a mystery! It was book#8 and I never read any others in this series but I didn't feel lost and could easily catch on to what was going on. It also had an ending so I don't feel like I need to find the other books in the series after it. I got it free on BookBub and enjoyed it! I would recommend it if you're looking for something clean and lighthearted but interesting, too!
I enjoyed this books as much as the first. Thank you so much for making it available for free. I live on a very limited income and if weren’t for book bub and all of you generous authors who put your books out there for free, i would be reading the same books over and over
Chris Abernathy does it again! NCIS: National Cat Investigative Society is a fun, delightful short read. It may be short, but Chris Abernathy packs a lot of fun and warmth in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Onto more of Chris Abernathy's Detective Whiskers and his supporting other animal friends who help him solve cases!
This is the only story that I remember that is told by a celebrity Detective Cat. He lives with Sheila.... You notice I didn't say owned by. Detective Whiskers is a very independent cat and tells the story in his own way. Murder, Mayhem, and Breaking and Entering. KeepS the story on the run. Read and enjoy!
I've read one other book with this amazing Detective Whiskers and his human. They are so much fun to read (I have to remind myself the main character speaking is a cat!), and the mysteries and involved and interesting. I look forward to reading more, and looking for a cat who speak to me like Jethro!
This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! Funny and sweet and light! So umm yea you can read the cats thoughts! Which is what I was looking for in one of these cozy mystery books! It was just fun. I didn’t give it 5 stars bc there was some chapters that I felt did not transition well. I was left going back to see if I missed something. Hmm. But overall delightful!
You know that feeling you have when a dear long distance friend has visited but has to go back home? That’s how I have felt since finishing this book. I enjoyed the new characters introduced in this series, even if the Scottish accent was difficult to follow at first. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Sheila, Detective Whiskers, and Blue feel like old friends I want to spend more time with.
There are not 1 but 2 dead bodies at the hotel and the famous artist Barksy painted a beautiful mural on the side of the hotel. There is a very special cat guest, and they all work together to solve this mystery and they successfully identify the killer. Great Read.
We know the dead guy was a male. They and them are plural. He was not. Dead people probably care about personal pronoun. But many readers do. Especially us old ones.
A very comfort Cozy read about a very smart Cat. Chief of security, for the Paradise Inn in Florida. A read entertaining for anyone loving a Cozy Mystery. Enjoy and fall in love with the various animals and very unique individuals. Enjoy!
I figured out who Barksy was but I kind of wished it was someone else. Jethro got on my nerves a bit but Whiskers is the kind of cat I would love to have...with or without the detective skills.
4/25. Detective Whiskers helps his best friend Sheila solve the cases of two murders, one inside the hotel and one nearby. The names of some of the characters in the tale are amusing and add a fun touch to an otherwise somewhat mundane read.
I could not love this series more. Detective Whiskers is on the case but gets distracted by another cat. Well he be able to get back in the game with two murders at the hotel and Shelia having many suiters looking to date her. Whiskers has his paws full.
I absolutely loved it! Another excellent Detective Whiskers! I love this new character! I hope he will be coming back. This is must read series! I can’t wait for the next book!
It was a cute read. Great idea. There were parts that flowed smoothly and some that didn't. It was fun. I was surprised there was a series with Whiskers.
