The survivors must rely on themselves, their courage, and wit, while enduring horrific hardships.
Joe Buck is on a collision course with a life-altering event. He’ll need to rely on his skills to survive the catastrophic EMP about to unfold as he’s working behind the scenes at his blue collar job at the Super Bowl. Breakout country singer and small-town girl Lexi Carter is on the same trajectory. She has just finished singing a well-received rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. It’s 5:23 p.m. and Ethan Crossfield, the lead pilot of the Blue Angels, has NRG Stadium in his sights, packed with thousands of people as he streaks across the sky at mind-numbing speeds, moments before his flyover.
The crowd is raucous.
The performances were meticulously rehearsed, finely tuned down to the second, and should have gone off without a hitch. Except for one surprise an EMP.
During the chaos and the ensuing struggle to survive, society collapses faster than expected, and an unlikely hero emerges, unknowingly stalked by powerful and ruthless people willing to kill at all costs to maintain the secrecy of their diabolical plot.
Find out who is left standing in this fast-paced and thrilling first installment in the World on Edge series.
Chris Pike grew up in the woodlands of central Texas and along the Texas Gulf Coast, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and dodging hurricanes and tropical storms. Chris has learned that the power of Mother Nature is daunting, from floods to category five hurricanes, to slippery ice or desert conditions. It pays to be prepared.
Currently living in Houston, Texas, Chris is married, has two grown daughters, one dog and unfortunately three overweight, demanding cats.
Chris is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment and has held a Texas concealed carry permit since 1998, with the Glock being the current gun of choice.

Hi Readers, this is Chris. I'd like to tell you thanks for stopping by and if you have downloaded a copy of Unexpected World or Uncertain World, man I am really grateful! It is because of readers like yourself that makes Indie publishing possible. Seriously. Thanks a million.
And if you have a moment, could you post a review. One or two sentences is all that is needed. I will be forever grateful. Thank you! Y'all are the best!
The story has promise but it was told almost without emotion detailing and describing. It started out with two characters that I would’ve loved to have followed, but The author kept us at arms length from them as well as the other characters. I have to admit I did not finish the book so maybe he got better after the sixth chapter. But six chapters should be enough to grab your audience by the throat.
An easy read, not a lot of thinking involved. The zoo provides the twist and the ending supplied the surprise. I just can't believe they would stay in one place so long.
Spoiler Alert….I’ve read Chris Pike before, and this doesn’t seem like her usual work. It was a really good storyline, but the editor really let her down. There were a lot of extra words that should have been deleted (i.e. “Joe walked Joe walked”), misspellings, and incomplete sentences. Some inconsistencies that just don’t align with Chris’s talent for including all the pertinent details were surprising. For example, there were two times the group didn’t take weapons off dead/dying people. Another thing - one character was wearing heels, even injured her ankle. But as they prepared to hike out of there for a long journey on foot, there is no discussion about finding her some other shoes. I don’t believe she was going to hike 40 miles with a sprained ankle in high heels. This may be trivial, but why would a woman who worked with the zoo and was nearly finished with a degree in veterinary medicine think that an anaconda cannot get in a tree? And why did all of her group leave and go to dinner without her? Maybe that will be addressed in the next book.
This was a somewhat uneven story. The elements of an EMP and the ensuing calamity are fairly standard. The dialogue was often unrealistic-would anyone really say ""The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. And if our ancestors could endure hardships of travel by foot in all sorts of weather, so can we" and not have the others laugh? There was a lot of explaining too as though the reader wouldn't grasp some concepts and some things kept getting explained several times in case we wouldn't remember. The animal activist was just too whacky to be believable. It was surprising these guys would stay in place for so long rather than try to find some help. Hospitals may be overwhelmed but what about clinics etc? Not sure I will continue since we will have the irritating and all too common element of escaped convicts with a vendetta. On the other hand, I may want to see what happens to Oscar the dog.
Interesting story-slow and desperately in need of editing
The story could be good but there are many places where the story repeats itself in a long winded monologue. The old woman yammers incessantly and needs her monologue edited. Tell us she yammers but don’t make me skim through it. At the end of the book two chapters bring brand new characters into the book. Argh. The male characters were terribly chauvinistic and lacked real personality, the women bland and lacking skill. I read the whole book and I just don’t care about any of them enough to read more. I also don’t want to wade through the repetitiveness and the monologues that need editing.
The story line and characters were very good in this first book but a third of the pages were used up reliving all the events that have already occurred. I’m here, I’m reading the book ... it’s as if the writer is either using up space or doesn’t believe I can remember what I just read. I would imagine the next book will be more of the same and could easily condense two books into one without missing a thing. We’ll see?
Chris Pike is a fine writer and this book doesn't disappoint. Even though it's another EMP catastrophe, with the usual bad actors, the characters make the story fresh. After an EmP attack devastates the Super Bowl in Houston, A group of survivors come together to make their way home. I'm looking forward to the second book.
What a great start to a new series. This book was a fast-paced action-filled thrill ride from start to finish. I love the new characters and can not wait to read book 2. Get the book and leaves your review.
I enjoyed this book alot! I really liked the characters and the devopment of their relationships with each other. The only thing I would change is that I felt the book went back over the stories too much. I do love Oscar! Ready to start the next one!
Great book about a group brought together by an EMP causing all electronic devices to stop working, what the have to do to survive the disaster, looking forward to reading book 2.
Good story line with realistic situations! EMP thriller with characters you care about. Families with good characters and bad eggs. Need the rest of the story!
Not sure what the point was with talking down on military life. Kind of unusual for this genre. Otherwise it was just hohum. Lots of repeating facts & dialogue.
Reading this book was easy liked the fact there was no f-bombs.. Also liked hoe it had several main characters trying to help others. I will look for more books by Chris Pike
I loved this book by Chris Pike. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of this Chris’ books. I listened to this book on audiobook.
I quite enjoyed this book. The story was fast paced and the characters pretty interesting. I found it a bit unbelievable they would spend so long in the stadium personally. I would have left pretty quickly. Otherwise a good premise for a series.
This is a story about courage and bravery of ordinary and extra ordinary people. About hard times when they bring out the best or the worst in society. Definitely, worth reading.
Hope this is the beginning of a series. Just wonderful characters and story line. Need to know more about granny Debra Sue, and her evil grandson. Recommend.
Although I enjoyed the story and some of the characters, the writing and the flow was off. The timeline didn’t always make sense and there were factual errors,
Great story with likable characters. Moves along at a quick easy pace that keeps you reading one more page then just one more till you find yourself at the end lol.
A slightly different way of writing about an EMP. I thought the book was great. There were a couple of instances where comments were made and I cringed. Most of the characters were likeable and realistic. I'm ready to start World Of Suspicion.
