Werecougar Lily Mason has sworn off investigating crimes in Moonrise, Missouri. No more bodies, no more intrigue, and more importantly, no more murderers. But her plans for an easy-breezy drama and danger-free life is put on hold when a friend asks for her help in investigating a suspicious death.
When elderly Opal Dixon breaks a hip and must recuperate in a nursing home, she spends all her time complaining about her annoying roommate, her idiot doctor, and the laundry service that keeps losing her clothes to anyone who will listen. So, Lily is less than convinced when Opal insists a nursing home suicide is really foul play.
Still, to ease her friend's fears, Lily agrees to look into the situation. With her loyal dog Smooshie at her side while she delves into the case, Lily soon learns that it's not all bingo and low-sodium diets at Moonrise Manor.
And when Opal's suspicions make her the next target, Lily realizes she's running out of time to save her friend...and stop a sadistic killer.
About Renee: USA Today Bestselling author Renee George writes paranormal mysteries and romances because she loves all things whodunit, Otherworldly, and weird. Also, she wishes her pittie, the adorable Kona Princess Warrior, and her beagle, Josie the Incontinent Princess, could talk. Or at least be more like Scooby-Doo and help her unmask villains at the haunted house up the street.
When she’s not writing about mystery-solving werecougars or the adventures of a hapless psychic living among shapeshifters, she is preyed upon by stray kittens who end up living in her house because she can't say no to those sweet, furry faces. (Someone stop telling them where she lives!)
She resides in Mid-Missouri with her family and spends her non-writing time doing really cool stuff...like watching TV and cleaning up dog poop.

The gang is back for another adventure. This time Opal and Pearl are up and center stage. These ladies are hilarious. Lily walking in on Pearl and her special friend in the shower is a scene that cannot be unseen 😁😂😂😂 + Opal’s investigation at the hospital and her acerbic wit is amazing. It’s nice to see some growth in characters such as Layla! Going from a unprincipled, undisciplined, young mother who left her young child at home alone, to one who is taking control of her life and seeking a career in nursing ❤️❤️❤️ it’s also nice that Lily and others recognize the change and give her words of encouragement. Other changes are happening in the town and relationships as well, even as the gang investigate the murder of a nurse at Opals rehab center.
This was such a slow burn that by the time the culprit was revealed I felt that I’d only been reading for a short time. Loved the mystery. The characters were as fun as always, but there were a few unexpected surprises that only added to my enjoyment of the story.
Lily Mason and Smooshie were back on the case solving another town mystery while surrounded by new and old friends and I loved every page. I think it's so much fun to try to piece together the clues with Lily and Renee George does a superior job of laying out a good mystery. This cozy mystery series really delves into family and love, which I think gives the books so much more heart. It's rare for me to tear up on a quick fun book, but it happened with this one!
So much happens in this story! We learn some wonderful secrets. It was nice to learn more about Opal and Pearl. This story was a bit sadder than the others. The person murdered was just getting her life together so losing her and her potential story line is a bummer. Truly, truly loved the ending – even got a bit teary. Looking forward to see how all the story lines continue to play out.
"The Prune Pit Murder" is book 5 in the "Barkside of the Moon" series by Renee George. This book has so much going on with a murder and a kidnapping. Lily is staying busy with trying to figure everything out. This series gets better and better with each book. I always think the book I read is my favorite until I read the next book. My favorite part of this book is how close Lily, Nadine, and Reggie are. I look forward to the next book in this series and can't wait to see what will happen next.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! This was a great book ! She did not want to, but when Opal asked Lily, she could not say no. A nurse killed herself, or another option is that the killer made it look like a suicide. Once again Lily and the gang are back again solving another case. Did Abby killed herself or what did she know that got her killed ? Lily and Parker are so cute together. Let's not forget Smooshie! It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book! I can't wait for the next book in this series.
I Love Lily. She is a cougar shifter and she has a pet pit bull named Smooshie. Smooshie is adorable, friendly, and loyal, a real cuddle bunny. And Lily's boyfriend owns and operates a pit bull rescue. I would love him too. There is just something about these books that keep me coming back to the series. I can relate to the characters, it feels like I am in the story with them, following along like a tag along friend. The mysteries are interesting, and the pace of the book is good.
Loved this story. Lilly checking into another murder for her friend Opal. They say Abbie overdosed, but her friends don't believe that. There is a lot going on trying to find the culprit. Attempts on Lilly's life. I loved Smooshie, the pit bull. And Parker's surprises for Lilly. Excellent book. Received this book for free for an honest review.
I LOVE this series! I love Lily and Smooshie and all the gang. In this fabulous installment Lily tries to solve the murder of a friend of a friend and realizes just how many friends she has now. This story has all the feels. I can’t recommend enough.
I have read all the 5 books in this series and I really feel I am going to miss all the characters especially Lilly and Parker. A great read and would strongly recommend these books. They are fast moving, funny, great twists and turns and fabulous continuity throughout of the characters, humans, dogs and cougars.
I love Renee George's books! Everyone is fresh and has a new twist even with the same main or core characters. The Prune Pit Murder while I'm not sure why the title, it was still a full of all the thrills of any Renee George book! Fresh and I never know whodunit until she reveals!!! Love that!❤
Lily's ready for a quiet life. But when her friend Opal breaks her hip and is in a nursing home, murder happens. Mystery, murder and friends you can rely on. Great story and series. No cliffhanger and hea.
So I have like this series from the start but this book in the series just didn’t cut it. So many spelling and grammar mistakes and the ending just didn’t work for me. The ending seemed so rushed, the only good thing was the murder mystery.
So, a werecougar who does not want to have her town find out about her situation is once more involved in a mystery. Funny, well-plotted, and solvable with the clues at hand makes for a good read. I recommend the book.
Really enjoy this story, and I love the integration of some of the side characters, the sisters Opal and Peral. Also liked that we saw how Lacey is getting her life back together.
Loved how the three friends life in progressing and engagement, a pregnancy, and a couple moving in.
This read like a nice completion to this cozy mystery series. An interesting case, I really cared about all these people and small-town troubles, and let's not forget all the pitbulls!
I've been loving this series. I hate how close to finishing what's available I am. My only issue at the moment is why is it the prune pit murder?! I feel like there is some reference that I'm missing
Not my favorite in the series, but I still enjoyed it. I didn't think it was focused enough on the mystery. Even so, I love Lily and her found family, especially Smooshie.
