Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.
Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.
Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.
Johnson speaking at a conference Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.
While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".
In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"
In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.
According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.
Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.
One of the most challenging books to read because although it has 79 chapters on Faith, Hope , and Love, each contained nuggets that left me pondering more of the Presence of God and all it includes. I’ve marked it up such I will reference the notes for more reflection. One everyone could benefit from.
Full of Us vs. Them/ Conflict inciting themes, suggesting that the study of the Bible is overrated in some church circles and that asking questions about miracles is a sign of little faith. Also, suggests multiple times that God’s power will not be found in people who are suffering from depression. Finally, he suggests that there is a level of faith at which God’s power (somehow separate from God) bends to your will. Overall, not a great read.
Wow! What an amazing read! I absolutely loved this book. There were things I didn't know that my spiritual eyes were opened to as well as tidbits of wisdom that my mind is now able to grasp more fully. Definitely one to own and read over and over again. Loved it!
wish I could say I was thrilled by Bill Johnson’s book but I wasn’t. He is the senior leader of the Bethel Church in Redding Ca. His book contains 79 devotions which are followed by a prayer and confession. He uses three themes from the very much loved I Corinthians 13:13 of faith, love and hope. The content was excellent as well as his Bible references, but I couldn't say, it was a devotional book I felt compiled to read each day and was eager to read on. It is hard to review a book of this kind that tries to use only three themes. He hoped to reveal simple ideas about the three aspects of Jesus’ grace and I think he did that. It has a please cover with mountains and each chapter uses a silhouette of mountain with the word for that chapter with a title to catch your interest. I am sure it will be used in our church library.
“Jesus did not go through all His sufferings so we could go to church; He did what He did to atone for sin. And by doing so He made it possible to raise up a new breed of world changers, those who could maintain the standard He set in love, purity and power. This reality is one of the great prophecies that Jesus spoke: “Greater works than these shall you do because I go to the Father” (see John 14:12). Not only does Jesus’ life compel us to follow the miracle worker, so do His promises.”
This is one of the best books I’ve read in recent years. As I read through the chapters, it was like it as written specifically for me. I’d recommend this book for anyone and everyone. You are bound to learn and grow in some way.
This is a Book of deep revelation, insight, and practical statements that can profoundly change the Reader if adhered to. It cannot be read quickly but must slowly be taken in and reflected upon A great read
Bill Johnson’s book is advertised as an antidote to the difficulties we face in life, giving hope in situations that seem hopeless and detour us away from our dreams. The blurb goes on to say “Weighed down by the impossible, we forget that we have the power of heaven within our grasp--power that can change any situation and overcome every problem.”
Bill Johnson is a fifth generation pastor at Bethel Ministries, in California, which is a thriving congregation, doing a lot to change the world we live in for the better. They are well known for their published worship music and school of ministry - people visit from all over the world to learn the principles they apply.
The book takes us through the gifts of 1 Corinthians 13: faith, hope and love.
Inspiring book! The author has a lot of helpful words of wisdom about faith, hope, and love. All the way through the different daily sections, I was amazed at the things that were said about the Lord and our walk and relationship with Him. It was in depth pondering that had an impact. I was challenged many times to believe for the impossible and view my actions and thoughts in the perspective of my faith, and love. And the hope in all of it... This quote from the book sums it up beautifully, "Faith grows in the atmosphere of hope and is to be expressed in the vehicle of love. I highly recommend this book. Thanks to the author and publisher for the complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
My wife and I have been using this as a Daily Devotional together and it has been inspirational. It's based on the three spiritual gifts from I Corinthians 13: Faith, Hope, and Love and each chapter takes on a different topic in rotation. This was especially good for what we were going through at the time with my wife's depression, her father in the hospital. Each lesson contains a lesson, then a prayer then a confession to be repeated to help you get in tune with God.
This is a good book for devotion & meditation which based on 3 Themes Faith, Hope & Love - covers over 79 topics. Well written & explain on profound truths & principles. It strengthen n deepen my faith and draws on/unleash the power of Heaven over my life - and experience the impossible. So take up the challenge & go read the book and be blessed.
Bill Johnson reveals exactly how one can experience "on earth as it is in Heaven" and the road chosen and traveled by few, but open to all believers. He also provides guidelines for walking in our calling. Excellent book for any Christ follower wanting to have greater impact in the world around them by walking daily in relationship.
Such a wonderful devotional! I loved this book and I was sad when I arrived at the last chapter. This book is full of wisdom and revelation and a great pairing to my morning Bible reading.
