The story begins in the wonderful '80s, a time filled with great music, alcohol, cruising, and sex. She was 15 years younger than he was. Although he had a problem with the age difference, she never did.
Married three times, twice to the same woman and barely escaped a third round with her. This is a story about the multiple marriages.
She also married two other men between these marriages and had an affair with Jim during both.
Call it magnetism, a strange attraction, or plain old stupidity; you be the judge.
This story takes place over a 30-year time period. Their mutual magnetism even draws them together over great distances. She was selfish, immature, conniving, lying, and deceitful.
Very rarely does a story come along that transcends generations. One may think of Citizen Kane, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Bible, etc. But now we can add I Married a Ho Twice, So Did She to that esteemed list. Never has a story pulled at my emotions and resounded within me so deeply, so aggressively, so viscerally, that I have been brought to tears, yet Jim Akers was able to do so within a few pages. There are not nearly enough stories of a man being done wrong by a two-timing ho. It is even rarer to find an author strong-willed enough to put that two-timing ho in her place. Akers does not need to do this through violence, though, as that would be below a wordsmith such as he. No, he settles these conflicts with wondrous prose and syntax, leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind who the hero really is.
Jim, if you ever read this, know you have made a lifelong fan in me. If I ever pass you on the streets of Mount Airy, be prepared to see me immediately prostrating myself in front of you, begging to be worthy to walk the ground you stand on, to kiss the soles of your shoes—for you have woven the most intricate quilt of love and betrayal that has ever graced the page.
