Having our flaws picked on in our childhood years is something that you hope to leave in the past and make peace with. When we find as adults that we are still - and maybe even more so - expected to hide these imperfections and pretend they don’t exist, we feel lost. This book is about finally coming to terms with the ultimate truth that we are not and will never be perfect. It walks you through self-discovery and acceptance, while exploring what it means to love yourself.
Self-care is often misunderstood. This book explores the concept through real-life examples and unpacks the sensitive topic of boundaries. You will gain an understanding of how you can nurture yourself along your journey. At the end of the book, techniques are offered to redirect negative thoughts and feelings of low self-worth. This is a giant step towards embracing your flaws and living an authentic life!
An excellent, quick, and engaging read for embracing your true self
The central message in this book is to be true to yourself and safe with yourself. This is a very thought-provoking read. I found myself highlighting much of the book – there is THAT much good content!
The author covers the many factors that all inevitably impact our self-identity – from other’s opinions of us to our actions and personal values to our internal dialogue. I found myself steeped in self-reflection as I read this book, as so much of what is written here rings true. After all, we are all a pile of mistakes, and that’s perfectly okay.
After reading it, this gives me extra encouragement to be the best version of myself. Toward the end of the book, Ms. Zeppieri wraps up her message by stating “Bravery isn’t about going places you know well, it’s about making roads where there are none, with your intuition as your compass.”
This is a great read for everyone, as we all have a tendency toward negative self-talk and need to work on self-compassion, self-acceptance, and should strive to be true to ourselves. Well done!
