Working moms are tired. Stay at home moms are tired. We get our routines and slog through the days most of the time. Melissa Llerena’s Fertile Imagination is an approachable book of stories no matter what kind of tired mom you are. Being given permission to exist in a place of creativity beyond our mothering boundaries, is like breathing fresh air or remembering to put our bare feet in the grass once in a while. Reminding ourselves that the interests we had before we were parents or even ideas of what could become interests is just as important as nurturing our child’s interests.
Fertile Imagination offers colorful chapters to remind us of ourselves. You can read through or even bounce around if one chapter is calling you over the rest. This book lets you dig deep so you can recover something or even discover something in yourself. The encouragement is beautiful and freeing and I’m looking forward to gifting this book to those friends I kept thinking about as I read. It was a great way to get out of my reading slump from heavy non fictions like Body Keeps The Score and My Grandmothers Hands.

Melissa is an amazing interviewer and listener, and now she’s proven herself to be an amazing author! An empowering read for all the mums out there, no matter what stage of mumhood they’re at.

This book was both inspirational and motivational and definitely worth picking up if you’re a mum who adores her kids, but still wants more. It IS possible to have it all without the guilt- sometimes you just have to think outside the square and do it your way.
