It's not that single mum Charlotte Newman is completely and utterly obsessed with crafting, necessarily.
Sure, she has balls of wool stashed everywhere like a squirrel stores nuts and more needles than a tattoo parlour. But that doesn't mean she has a problem, right?
Finding herself between jobs, Charlotte fills her time teaching crafting skills at the local nursing home. Encouraged by how positively the residents respond, the possibility of a career doing what she adores fills her mind.

When a local charity announces a major knitting-themed fundraiser, Charlotte sees the ideal stage to put her new club firmly on the crafting map and drum up new members in the process.

Still, she won't let a minor issue like that derail her plans…. To ensure victory, then, she'll need to rally her new members and ask her friends from the nursing home to get those needles clicking faster than a hummingbird's wings!

Now I'm not a crafter but was leant this by a 'crafty' work colleague. Not a book that I would have typically chosen, (although I will read just about anything) but saying that, I really enjoyed this lighthearted read. Enjoyed the humour and the fluidity of the text. Set on the Isle of Man.
Think any crafter would thoroughly enjoy this.

A light read but not as hilarious or heartwarming for me as I think the author may have intended. I was a bit irritated by the relentless antics of two of the old ladies and found some of the comedy episodes cringeworthy. Nevertheless I enjoyed the knitting competition background and the end was nice.

I loved this book . It is a light hearted, feel good read that is just perfect . As someone with a passion for crafting , love of craft shop and a stash large enough to last many lifetimes I could relate to do much and desperately want to join the Crafternooners

I loved this book, and would recommend it wholeheartedly. Crafting, family dramas, old folks homes, and an island wide competition.

Disappointed. I am a keen crafter and part Manx so expected to enjoy this. It feels wrong criticizing the style of someone who actually has written a book when I haven’t, but I found the humour self conscious and forced, I skipped whole sections (ok, I did want to know what happened!) and felt I wasn’t missing anything. One bit I did read had an individual totally changing their whole character to fit in with the plot, not just a “you’ve misjudged me, I have issues” sort of change but a sudden, total about face. I had downloaded another book by the same author. I won’t bother to read it.

A light read, detailing the rivalries between two women who have a history dating back to school when Charlotte "stole" Amelia's boyfriend, against a background of crafting joy!
Some laugh out loud moments, and loads of quotable comments about living with a crafter... my husband can relate!! Now I can never pretend that driving 5 miles out of the way and happening to find a craft shop was a lucky coincidence!

What a fantastic book, it's a must read for anyone who loves a feel good story! Set in the Isle of Man and based around crafting, it's a story of mixing the generations and getting people together. It's a great read, I just couldn't put it down.
Charlotte, single mum to Charlie, is an avid crafter, but it doesn't pay the bills. She volunteers at a nursing home running a crafting session for the residents there. She sets up an afternoon crafting session which becomes quite successful. A local company decides to sponsor a community craft event of knitting squares for charity, when a local 'yummy mummy' decides to run roughshod over Charlotte, she finds she has to stand up for herself.
I truly loved this book and I can see it will be one I'll read over and over. I'm a crafter so can understand the sentiment behind getting people together to craft, to spend time together, away from any worries you may have is so beneficial to mind and body. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the 2nd book! Thank you for writing such an inspiring book. I'm hoping to download some more books by this talented author, I can see they are going to become one of my go to authors!

A fun, entertaining book full of interesting characters. It's got everything from frisky old women to passive/aggressive types that can only seem to insult. Makes me want to crochet a sweater, not granny squares though, I've made them and find them boring and not very pretty.

I enjoy books by J C Williams and being a ‘crafter’ myself was looking forward to this one. It was good and lighthearted throughout with a nice feel to it - nothing special jumped out but enjoyable nevertheless.

This was Sew Fun to read!
What a great story….I know first hand how crafters are and they are some of the best people you could ever meet. This story brings to life the fun of what a great group of people can get into. The story made me laugh and made me think about all of my crafting friends and how we are all together just like Charlotte and her group.

I wanted to love this book. I really did. I love crafting and thought for sure this would be an amazing read.
I couldn’t get over some of the writing:
“I’m surprised,” she said to herself, looking surprised.
“I’m sad,” he said, looking sad.
There were more instances of this. At first I thought it was meant to be silly but it kept coming up.
If you are looking for a book without a ton of substance and an easy read, this is it.

DNF 14% p47 DNF because although the genre is one I like, the characterisation seemed a little stereotyped also there was a tendency to explain the dialogue with descriptors that labours the point and could be taken out. I was reluctant to stop as I’m sure it would have been a nice story but couldn’t persevere.

I like to craft, but sorry, I now realise it’s not a subject for a book . I don’t think it was as funny as the author had intended or I somehow missed it. I admit I really rushed through it , skim reading just to get to the end. I never not finish a book, I like to give everyone a chance, but can’t find much positive to say about this one.

It’s been a long time since I haven’t wanted to put a book down. Being a crafter absolutely helps, but I loved the characters, the heart, and yes - the crafting! - in this book. Moving on to the second one soon!

3.5 stars rounded up as it was a light hearted book about community that craft lovers will appreciate. Yeah, I'd read book 2 as these are feel good books that are great brain palette cleansers between book hangovers
