Equality at work expert Ann Francke reveals how to understand and tackle the damaging consequences of gender imbalance in the workplace
Gender balance is first and foremost a business issue. McKinsey estimates we could add 28 trillion to global GDP if we achieved gender equality everywhere - that is more than the GDPs of the US and China combined. But it is so much more than that. Gender balance is one of the best levers we can pull to build better managers and leaders at every level, improve team performance and create better cultures where everyone can thrive.
In the Penguin Create a Gender-Balanced Workplace, Ann Francke, the CEO of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), introduces her solution to combating the problems at the heart of the continued imbalance and offers clear, actionable strategies for making a positive change in your organisation.
Liked this but felt it was repetitive and under-researched in some areas. Also didn't necessarily agree with all of the points but that isn't reflected in my rating.
This book explains the benefits of a gender-balanced workplace. The book explains how to attract women and how to make sure they thrive. The book is filled with examples of success and practical tips on how to achieve a gender-balanced workplace.
The first chapter talks about why closing the gender gap is important, quoting studies that are from reputable sources. The author talks about the benefits to global GDP. She also talks of the current slow rate of change and the predicted date we will reach parity at our current pace. What worries me is that convincing business people with monetary gains conflicts with my personal opinion that it's simply the right thing to do to ensure everyone has the possibility to participate in the world around them.
I enjoyed the book. It has filled me with confidence and ideas. The book is intense. Depending on the current efforts in your workplace to achieve gender parity, the book could be overwhelming as there is so many examples, statistics and advice. The recommendations can be used to help other underrepresented groups.
It's hard to read this book and not be inspired. It's hard not to be reflective about how your own company works. The book made me aware of problems I had overseen in my own company. I am now more conscious of our hiring process.
I learned lots of new phrases, such as "one and done". "Promotion gap" and "Tiara syndrome"
The book does not make assumptions about the current state of your company. The book contains advice to make changes regardless of your company's existing culture. The book makes no assumptions about the reader's position in the company.
Franckle needs to learn what gender even is before writing a whole book about it. Bitch knows what exclusion feels like- clearly been living in a cardboard box for the last 3/4 years ignoring the media uprising regarding non-binary people. Whatever you do, don’t buy this shit. It is inaccurate and rude to say the least against hundreds of millions of people.
